It Was The Best Of Times, It Was The Worst Of Times

Posted at 19:43 by Gavin M.

Sometimes you stumble across an item that perfectly illustrates the wingnuts’ war on reality — one that future academics would be delighted to find on the archived copy of the Internet that (hello!) they’re looking through right at this moment, here in the future.

Item: ‘Sometimes’ has become about nineteen times a day since earlier this year, when the right-bloggers turned from their fancied roles as media watchdogs and fact checkers toward a more authentic, more matured role as the preeminent rumor-mongers and conspiracy thinkers on the Internet since since UFO research fell out of fashion.

Yesterday we caught up with Pam Atlas and her umpty-word proof that Barack Obama is the secret love child of Malcolm X. Passed over during the excitement was the elaborately wrought theory, as aired on venues including Rush Limbaugh’s show, that Obama is controlling his followers through hypnosis.

Today, amid cycling accusations that Obama is a Marxist, and/or ‘a liberal Fascist,’ we find that the wingnuts are also attacking the problem of Marxofascism from the opposite side: America is already more socialist than the entire rest of the world, and cannot afford more of the same socialist policies that have brought us to the current socialist brink of socialist ruin.

No, really.

Hôtel de ville 2 minutes

Posted at 2:18 by Sadly, No!

Si c’est jeudi, c’est Meet the Press l’hôtel de ville 2 minutes:

Diana West: Obama’s economic policies are inherently Marxist.

John McCaslin: Wanna read a story about a carrot, an egg, and a cup of coffee? Well, maybe next time.

Frank Pastore: I made some movies. Did you know that Obama’s economic policies are Marxist?

Ann Coulter: You know what the Ashley Todd case proves? That Keith Olbermann is a sac de douche.

Ross Mackenzie: Obama’s all about “vapid inky nebulosities” like “change” and “hope” and “yes we can” — so I’m gonna vote for McCain because he is, as he himself so eloquently put it, the “change we need.”

Debra J. Saunders: As a conservative, I believe that 100% of the population should pay income taxes.

Emmett Tyrrell: Obama claims that he offers a tax cut for “95 percent” of the citizenry which means sending government checks to some 40 percent of the citizenry who pay no taxes and raising taxes on the rest of us.

George Will: I have 2 points: One: True conservatives never lose elections. Two: Any amount of money inferior to what Americans spend on potato chips is inherently small.

Ken Blackwell: A vote for Obama is a vote for the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament.

Marjorie Dannenfelser: Hmm, delicious straw:

When she [Palin] is ridiculed for her decision to bring her son Trig, diagnosed with Down syndrome, into the world[.]

Thomas Sowell: Vote Obama and get ready to see nuclear bombs go off in New York and LA. I sure am glad I traded my kidneys for these DVDs of 24’s sixth season!

Larry Elder: As things stand, there is no redistribution of wealth in America.

Matt Towery: Buy my book.

Steve Chapman: The fundamentals of our economy are strong.

Terence Jeffrey: That bailout plan is nothing but a money-making scheme for the government.

Cal Thomas: Vote Obama and you’ll die. And be sure to buy my book: “Common Ground: How to Stop the Partisan War That is Destroying America”.

Dr. Helen: Man’s Best Friend

Look out, Ol’ Perfesser, Dr. Mrs. Ol’ Perfesser is on the prowl … for himbos!

What’s wrong with being a ‘himbo?’

… So, let’s get this straight. If women play the field, they are liberated. If men do the same, they are pigs with no self-respect.

I never quite thought of it that way. But only because that would fly in the face of long-standing sexual double standards as actually practiced in real life. So … my bad.

Give me a break. The guy who wrote the article is either jealous of these guys or has been so indoctrinated to telling females what they want to hear that he has to diss his own sex to make himself feel important.

How awful! Imagine devoting one’s life and career to bashing one’s own gender in a pathetic appeal to the opposite sex!

Either way, I say, if you’re male, single, and upfront with the women you date, let your inner himbo shine if you’re so inclined.

Endorsement Guarantees McCain Landslide

Posted at 14:32 by Clif
ABOVE: Joe Perry, Lifelong Repub

Aerosmith’s guitarist Joe Perry unhooked his respirator long enough to croak out an endorsement of John McCain during an interview with a Boston Herald reporter.

A lifelong Republican, [Perry] said he was inspired to come forward because of ringing McCain endorsements from Rudy Giuliani and California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

“I’ve been a hardcore Republican my whole life,” he told the Herald. “My mother and father drilled into me from the very start that if you work hard and be positive, you’ll get what you’re working for. I guess I’m living proof of that.”

And what does being a “hardcore Republican my whole life” mean exactly? This:

The last time Joe Perry made a solo record, he was drunk, broke, and hooked on smack. Both his first marriage and his band, Aerosmith, had just broken up–mostly because, well, see above–and Perry’s life had become a string of drug-induced seizures.

Well, at least he wasn’t trolling public toilets for gay sex or having diaper sex with a prostitute, I suppose.

Obama’s ‘Civilian National Security Force’
Politics | Wed, Oct 29, 2008 at 5:48:57 pm PDT

Among the many promises and pledges in Barack Obama’s multi-million dollar infomercial, one statement really stood out: he announced that he will “rebuild the military.”

But somehow, at the same time, he’s planning a “civilian national security force” that is as powerful and well-funded as the US military: Obama outlines plan for national service.

“We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set,” he said Wednesday. “We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well funded.”

The Department of Defense’s current base budget is close to $500 billion. So if he meant that promise, he plans on a total defense budget of about a trillion dollars.

What exactly is Obama planning to do with a “civilian force” with such an astronomical level of funding?

No no, wait for it:

Obama’s campaign manager offers 3 million dollars to API in connection with Michelle Obama tape to be aired by Fox News Network

Six hours after the release of information by API on the planned broadcast by Fox News Network of the Michelle Obama tape, in accordance with an agreement that has been reached between API and Fox News Network, API was contacted by Obama’s Campaign Manager.

Those who are close to the democratic presidential candidate must be desperate to win the elections no matter what, otherwise they would not have taken such bold step to contact API with an offer of a bribe in order to stop the airing of the tape.

Obama’s campaign manager contacted API by telephone and email offering 3 million US dollars followed with a request to API to cancel the deal with Fox News Network.

No no, wait for it:

Ten days ago API received the first request to accept 2 million US dollars by Mr Ed Hale, President of Plains Radio, Texas - USA, in an effort to suppress the information from reaching the public before the coming US Presidential elections.

API has now taken a decision to contact the American Embassy in Oslo, Norway as soon as possible in order to report the matter and hand over the evidence for investigative purposes.

API’s Canadian lawyer is expected to fly to Oslo shortly in order to assist in the legal matters that arise from the bribery attempt.

API’s Chief editor is expected to travel to New York, together with the Canadian lawyer, where he will appear live in one of the shows that will air the Michelle Obama tape.

I know, I know. The punchline? There are still, even now, right-wing bloggers falling for this tragical piece of shark-jumpery:

Michelle Obama Tape to Be Released - Finally?****UPDATE: TODAY? Report of Obama Campaign Bribe?

**UPDATE: Hearing that this might show today. Via the API site, the Obama Campaign is trying to buy off the release:

[long quote elided]

I’ve contacted Fox News and asked them if they in fact had been contacted, they will not comment.

****End of Update*****

This won’t seem to die, but here we go. Remember that African news site that stated Michelle Obama called them to cry “racism” in reference to the detractors of Obama? Well they say now the agreement with Fox News has been reached and the tapes will play any day now.

[gigantically long quote elided]

Ok, so on with the show already! Let me suggest that they preempt the messiah’s hourly variety show, what a hoot that would be eh?

We’ve contacted Fox News and asked them if that in fact is a hoot, they will not comment.

University of Kentucky police are investigating who hung an effigy of Democrat Sen. Barack Obama from a tree on the Lexington campus Wednesday morning.

Back to you, Michelle:

It would be another sign of “insane rage” and “violent escalation of rhetoric.” And: RAAAAAAACISM.

Oh, we’re sure she’ll find some way to excuse it. Most likely, it will be the trick where she dumps out a trash bag of real and invented transgressions by ‘unhinged far-left liberals,’ and condemns all such acts equally. That one never gets old.

Hindy Hears A Who

Here’s John “Butt Scud” Hinderaker of the lately redesigned (i.e. aesthetically disimproved) Powerline:

ABOVE: “If we keep banging on these pots and pans, it will
scare away the moon-swallowing serpent.”

The Race Is Getting Closer
October 29, 2008
Posted by John at 8:37 AM

Barack Obama’s national lead over John McCain is down to two points in Gallup’s “traditional” turnout poll, and this morning Rasmussen Reports has Obama’s lead dwindling to three points. The Rasmussen result is especially significant, I think. Rasmussen uses a more or less constant set of assumptions that could turn out to be wrong, but that provide a solid basis for following trends. In other words, Obama’s lead may or may not be three points, but I think we can rely on Rasmussen for the proposition that McCain is closing the gap.

The history of this campaign has been one…

Let us interrupt here. Actually, Barack Obama’s national lead over John McCain has swelled to a mammoth 15 points in the national poll that is currently the most predictive and relevant, according to the shifting criteria of relevancy that orbit our massive sense of entitlement. Also consulted was our total conviction that reality can be argued away by yelling at it with arguments.

Indeed, new, verifiably real realities can be fiat-luxed into existence by acting for all the world as though they had always been true, as all reasonable people agree, such that what is left to us is simply to sort out the details.

Since this is John “Colo-Rectal Sidewinder” Hinderaker, there is also poison-penmanship here of a characteristically dense-packed, self-pleasuring variety, thinly camouflaged (as by custom) as sober, no-nonsense analysis from a conservative-leaning Midwestern lawyer. It is what one might call ‘push punditry.’

Seriously now. Try to imagine achieving a word-to-calumny ratio as efficient as Hinderaker’s. Watch as he gets Obama on the downstroke, and again on the upstroke, and then down again, and so forth. There’s a sort of mastery on display here:

Perhaps [Barack Obama] will try to address concerns that have arisen about his redistributionist philosophy and radical associations. In my view, he’d be better served not to do so. Denying that he is a socialist will have a Nixonian, “I am not a crook” air. Obama’s one real gift, apart from his fundraising prowess, is his ability to project an air of reasonableness and moderation no matter what he is saying. He will be better served if he relies on that skill rather taking on directly the accusations of radicalism that have started to get traction.

There is, of course, irony in Obama’s unprecedented infomercial. No Presidential candidate has ever had so vast a war chest as to be able to afford such an expenditure. We now know that Obama’s fundraising rests, at least in part, on the candidate’s decision to enable criminal fraud in the campaign’s fundraising. How much of his appearance tonight will be paid for by illegal donations that have been facilitated and encouraged by his campaign, we probably will never know.

Truly, Hindy had better watch it or he won’t be invited on any more blogger junkets to the White House.

Joe The Kahanist

Improbably manages to alienate skinhead vote

It all gets terribly clogged for Joe the Plumber, who hit the campaign trail for John McCain today and proceeded to excite two key GOP constituencies, Neo-Nazis and End Timers … about an Obama presidency:

‘Joe the Plumber’ Backs Claim That Obama Would Bring ‘Death to Israel’

Joe Wurzelbacher, a.k.a. ‘Joe the Plumber,’ on Tuesday twice agreed with a claim from an audience member at a John McCain rally that ‘a vote for Barack Obama is a vote for the death to Israel.’

Wurzelbacher was hitting the campaign trail on behalf of McCain for the first time, joining former Rep. Rob Portman on a GOP bus tour through Ohio.

At a stop in Columbus, he fielded the question on Israel from a self-identified Jewish senior citizen.

The questioner said he was ‘concerned’ with Barack Obama’s associations and ‘It’s my belief that a vote for Obama is a vote for the death to Israel.’

Wurzelbacher responded: ‘I do know that.’

The questioner then complained about Obama’s tax policies and reiterated his Israel comment.

‘Well, you know what, I’ll actually go ahead and agree with you on that one,’ Wurzelbacher said. ‘You know … no, I agree with ya.’

Even the Foxbots can’t defend Joe’s shiny-pated stupidity.

At Last, A Pinko President!

Posted at 9:19 by D. Aristophanes

Eat your heart out, Eugene Debs, and break out the vodka rations,* comrades! Because Barack Obama’s Communist agenda has been caught on tape! So says the wingnutosphere, and they are never wrong!

How wonderful will life be under Comrade Obama? Here are the apparatchiks at On Freedom’s Wings describing the first Five Year Plan:

What an Obama presidency will change those words to is: The economy becomes redistribution of wealth, wars become Marshall Law here in America with boots on our streets and terrorists able to destroy us and abortion becomes Eugenics where only the best get to live.

[Gavin adds: 1) You can see how they'd be threatened by that. 2) {awesome guitar chord} Alriiight! {smokin' guitar riff} It's Marshall La-a-a-a-aw!]

A Workers’ Paradise! But it gets better, says Lindy Borer:

Obama wishes to scrap the limits placed on government powers because they get in the way of his redistributive schemes. What powers are we talking about? Private property rights for one. Since property is distributed ‘unequally’ in Obama’s world, policies must be shaped and laws passed to deal with that situation. While he’s at it, Obama would like to trash the Bill of Rights by tossing the 9th and 10th Amendments which specifically limit the government’s powers vis a vis the people and the several states.

Ed Morrissey gets to the nub of it:

Barack Obama complains that the Constitution is a “charter of negative liberties”. That’s because the Constitution was intended as a limiting document, to curtail the power of the federal government vis-a-vis the states and the individual. The founders intended at the time to limit the reach of the federal government, and built the Constitution accordingly.

Barack Obama wants to reverse that entirely. And that’s radical change you’d better believe in, or else.

Ahh, but now we must beg your indulgence, fellow revolutionaries. We know that you wish to hear these words from the lips of soon-to-be Dear Leader himself, but you must be patient! Alas, we do not yet have the full audio of Obama’s glorious plan to ’sever all ties to the Constitution’.

What we do have is the first half of the dialogue, a rather mundane explanation of Constitutional limits on judicial authority to establish positive rights in the context of historic social struggle:

If you look at the victories and failures of the civil rights movement and its litigation strategy in the court. I think where it succeeded was to invest formal rights in previously dispossessed people, so that now I would have the right to vote. I would now be able to sit at the lunch counter and order as long as I could pay for it I’d be o.k. But, the Supreme Court never ventured into the issues of redistribution of wealth, and of more basic issues such as political and economic justice in society. To that extent, as radical as I think people try to characterize the Warren Court, it wasn’t that radical. It didn’t break free from the essential constraints that were placed by the founding fathers in the Constitution, at least as its been interpreted and Warren Court interpreted in the same way, that generally the Constitution is a charter of negative liberties. Says what the states can’t do to you. Says what the Federal government can’t do to you, but doesn’t say what the Federal government or State government must do on your behalf. And that hasn’t shifted. And one of the, I think, tragedies of the civil rights movement was because the civil rights movement became so court-focused I think there was a tendency to lose track of the political and community organizing and activities on the ground that are able to put together the actual coalition of powers through which you bring about redistributive change. In some ways we still suffer from that.

Such elegant didactics! We can’t wait until Ed & Co. release the second part of the audio, wherein Comrade Obama turns the above on its head and reveals his plot to overthrow our Capitalist overlords!

*Redeemable vodka ration chits now to be making available at People’s Distillery Nos. 1-8 and 10 in your Soviet. Distillery No. 9 chit will to proceed glorious manufacure pending announcement of Central Revolutionary Worker’s Committee.

Update: OMFG, it gets waaaay better, courtesy of Crystal Clear Conservative. Earlier in the audio, from a radio interview in Chicago, Obama discusses ‘an enormous blind spot,’ a ‘fundamental flaw’ in the Constitution. It’s perfectly clear that he’s talking about the legitimization of chattel slavery in the three-fifths clause:

I think [the Constitution is] a remarkable document…

The original Constitution as well as the Civil War Amendments … but I think it is an imperfect document, and I think it is a document that reflects some deep flaws in American culture, the Colonial culture nascent at that time.

African-Americans were not — first of all they weren’t African-Americans — the Africans at the time were not considered as part of the polity that was of concern to the Framers. I think that as Richard said it was a ‘nagging problem’ in the same way that these days we might think of environmental issues, or some other problem where you have to balance cost-benefits, as opposed to seeing it as a moral problem involving persons of moral worth.

And in that sense, I think we can say that the Constitution reflected an enormous blind spot in this culture that carries on until this day, and that the Framers had that same blind spot. I don’t think the two views are contradictory, to say that it was a remarkable political document that paved the way for where we are now, and to say that it also reflected the fundamental flaw of this country that continues to this day.

The sentence, ‘Africans at the time were not considered as part of the polity that was of concern to the Framers’, may be about the most polite and banal description of legalized fucking slavery(!) ever uttered by one of its opponents. But not to the tender ears of Crystal Clear Conservative, for whom ‘Obama demagogues race’:

To illustrate what he perceives as the Country and its Constitution’s flaw, Obama demagogues race. It is ironic that someone who claims to be a great unifier is so obsessed with our divisions. Here it is race, which can be taken alongside gender and class demagoguery. For a person basing his campaign on change we need to unite the United States, how does he propose to do this while dividing us on race, class and gender? What exactly is this so-called fundamental flaw of the United States that is reflected by the Constitution?

What indeed? Just a wild guess, but perhaps it’s Article 1, Section 2, Paragraph 3:

Representatives and direct Taxes shall be apportioned among the several States which may be included within this Union, according to their respective Numbers, which shall be determined by adding to the whole Number of free Persons, including those bound to Service for a Term of Years, and excluding Indians not taxed, three fifths of all other Persons.

Crystal Clear Conservative does not agree, positing — stunningly — that Obama’s disdain for the original, since amended, Constitutional right to own human beings as personal property precludes him from assuming the presidency … because that would mean he’s unwilling to uphold the Constitution!

While the founders crafted a Consitution which enshrined personal property rights, Obama perceives a flaw that may be corrected by removing this protection in order to bring about redistributive change. This is contrary to the founding the United States and given this, Barack Obama does not intend to uphold the Consitution of the United States, and is therefore unfit to take the Oath of Office of the Presidency of the United States.

Again, I am simply stunned. And to put it into broader perspective, I heard radio slug Laura Ingraham railing on this ‘fundamental flaw’ quote earlier this evening, totally out of context. At the time, I guessed that Obama was probably referring to the three-fifths clause, but Ingraham didn’t provide the full quote.

This is just beyond stupid, beyond mockery, beyond sanity even. That, in the 21st century, saying in the most tepid and academic terms that you are against human slavery could be considered in any way ‘controversial’ by anyone, let alone a significant section of our population, is just … gah.

Pam Discovers Secret Obama Plot To Nuke Planet

Posted at 3:33 by Clif
“You say somebody has already tried this??”

The prospect of a Negro in the White House has Pammiecakes Geller in full meltdown mode over at Atlas Shrieks. She’s giving a performance quite unequaled since that given by Margaret Hamilton when Dorothy dumped a bucket of water on her.

In a flurry of melting flesh, acrid steam, and screeching wails, Pammiecakes tells us that Obama plans to dump all our nuclear arms in the trash basket and surrender the United States to the unholy troika of an Islamic Caliphate, Vladimir Putin, and Hugo Chavez. Obama’s chief accomplice will be, according to Pam, Major General Jonathan Scott Gration:

Gration is now considered one of Obama’s three top military advisers …. Gration wants to disarm the US of all nuclear weapons completely. Quoting from the Newsweek article:

The general also has some strong views of his own: ‘I believe if you could get rid of all the nuclear weapons this would be a wonderful world,’ he says.

Sadly, no:

Gration also has some strong views of his own on national security, which may not always be perfectly in accord with Obama’s. Above all, he thinks there are far too many nuclear weapons in America’s arsenal and in the world, and he wants to accelerate the 2002 Moscow Treaty that called on Washington and Moscow to reduce their operationally deployed strategic warheads to about 2,000 by 2012. … “When you have 15,000 to 16,000 weapons floating around, I think you can reduce that number significantly. And make sure nobody else feels a requirement to get new nukes. I believe if you could get rid of all the nuclear weapons this would be a wonderful world.” Even so, Gration says, he’s a “pragmatist. … But we have to do it in a way that makes sense. I’m not one who just says get rid of everything unilaterally.

Bonus stupid from Pam in the same post (my emphasis):

Neither did I believe the extreme example Ayn Rand put forth in her masterwork, Atlas Shrugged, to demonstrate her philosophy and prove her epistemology would be rendered pale, almost timid, by the Orwellian plot to overthrow capitalism by the Marxist messiah.

Obviously Pam has gotten hold of a “big word generator” that randomly generates multisyllabic words that Pam just randomly puts into her posts, in this case her hilarious insertion of “epistemology.” She could have just as easily inserted “molinology” or “cytomorphology” or “honorificabilitudinitatibusosity” or even “tuna on rye” and the sentence would have made just as much sense.
