Oh My God, They Killed Kenny

Above: Ken Mehlman is out, so to speak

RNC asks Steele to replace Mehlman
By Ralph Z. Hallow
November 10, 2006

Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman, whose party just lost both chambers of Congress, will leave his position in January, and the post as party chief has been offered to Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele.

“It is true,” Mr. Mehlman told The Washington Times when asked about reports last night that he would resign. “It’s something I decided over the summer. No one told me I needed to. In fact, folks wanted me to stay.”

Mr. Mehlman said he “told the White House over the summer it was my decision” to leave the RNC post, “win, lose or draw.”

Uh-huh, assuredly, yes. That’s totally it. Right. Yeah, truly, uh-huh. Wow.

Not to say that this has anything to do with it, but the biggest closet in Washington just got a little pinchy. If Mr. Mehlman is retiring to spend more time with Scott McClellan’s family, as it were, that’s one fewer potential scandal hanging over the cynically gay-baiting Republican Party, which…

But that’s importunate. Perhaps it’s simply time for a bold nude erection.

This, on the other hand, is interesting. Watch how Karl Rove’s fabled whackadoodle mojo seems to be waning:

Other Republican Party officials said some Republican National Committee (RNC) members, including state party chairmen, have mounted a move to have Mr. Steele succeed Mr. Mehlman.

But they said that President Bush’s political adviser Karl Rove, who is Mr. Mehlman’s mentor, would rather see Mr. Steele serve in the president’s Cabinet, perhaps as secretary of Housing and Urban Development. These officials said no one has actually offered Mr. Steele either the RNC post or a Cabinet post.

We’ll see who wins this one. (Steele reverse, bitchuzz!11)

Does this mean that Tim Meadows will have to stop being on The Colbert Report?

Steele ran such an upright, strong, and successful GOTV campaign that he is a natural to continue Karl Rove’s Weak, Opaque Myopia.

Ken Mehlmman’s out? It’s about time!

Oh, wait….he’s only out of the RNC chairmanship. That’s not nearly as impressive.

Kenny, Kenny, Kenny…..a closet is just a bedroom without self respect.

Ken Mehlmman’s out? It’s about time!

Oh God, I can’t believe I missed that. Must change caption…

The Washington Times. We make stuff up. You decide.

Michael Steele as HUD Secretary is an interesting concept, though. He could find homes for all those homeless people who passed out pamphlets that said “Vote for Democrats” and had Steele’s picture on them.

Ah, the classic Republican HUD move — give it to the black guy. He’ll bond with the folks.

Michael Steele will be the first Democratic head of the RNC…

He referred to being a Republican as “the scarlet letter”

I proudly welcome his chairmanship, and look forward the proud Democratic domination of both parties!

The American people have spoken. It’s time for a neuter action in Washington.

So in the past few years, residents of Massachusetts have seen a Sox series victory, gay marriage, and a Democratic retaking of Congress.

Can I just take a moment to note that saying someone “outed Ken” is pretty much like suggesting Kerry “outed Mary Cheney”? You’d pretty much have to be one of Ken’s former or current male lovers for this to be in any way significant.

Kenny, everybody knows. Come over to the Dem side. We promise not to think badly of you for it. We might even see if we can’t get you some civil rights!

Jeebus, Steve Gilliard is gonna have a cow. We may even see the infamous Steele Photoshop again.

That’s a lovely pic of Ken, btw. No one does ‘jazz hands’ like Kenny.

You bastards!

I really can’t believe the Republicans could be stupid enough to put this guy in charge. I mean, there was a time, not too long ago, when I thought that at a minimum these guys had good judgment when it came to how to win elections.

Bussing in homeless people to pass out fliers in the black community claiming you’re a Democrat… and now he’s in charge of the party? Good luck with that outreach program, friends.

Too bad then name The Insane Clown Posse has already been taken, otherwise the RNC could just switch to that.

The RNC will not have a black chairman, and besides, putting Mr. Steele in charge of HUD will give chuckles to their base. Senator Macacawitz is already giggling.

So the Ken Doll comes out of Barbie’s closet, and the RNC replaces him with Michael Steele? Uhhhhh huh…. How long do you figure it’ll take before they figure out that Steele is a negro?

I made a YTMND in his honor.

“Come over to the Dem side. We promise not to think badly of you for it. We might even see if we can’t get you some civil rights! ”

It reminds me of what David Rakoff said about his coming out. Everyone reacted with about as much surprise as if he had revealed that he was a dark-haired white guy. Come on, Ken! It won’t hurt a bit, really.

Yeah, but that can be tough, too. I know one of my friends came out to us when he was about 23 or so. I don’t know if all of his friends reacting with “Well DUH!” was neccessarily comforting.

“mounted a move to have Mr. Steele”.
This stuff writes itself, folks. Try the veal.

Damn it, Gentlewoman, *I* was gonna make a “jazz hands” joke!
Well, that’s what I get for going out and, um, “celebrating” at the leather bar on Wednesday night.
And drinking an entire bottle of champagne on Thursday night.
And running around like an idiot on Friday night, trying to do the stuff I should have done Wednesday and Thursday.

Marq you are incorrigible. I can only assume by this history of your conduct that you are feeling better, and I am very happy to hear it. 🙂

now can Kenny take direction and choreography from Dom DeLouise?

“throw up your hands
stick out your tush
hands on your hips
now give ’em a push
everyone knows
you’re doing the French Mystique”

[…] After all, it’s not like anyone would attempt to cover up such a thing. […]
