We know where democracy is…

and it’s not going to be east, west, south and north of Baghdad somewhat:

BAGHDAD – Iraq remains on course to hold landmark elections in January, but violence could force authorities to exclude hotspots such as the western city of Fallouja from voting, a top U.S. general said here Sunday.

Lt. Gen. Thomas F. Metz, operations chief of more than 150,000 mostly U.S. troops, said in an interview that the “cancer” of anti-American militancy in places such as Fallouja would not derail national elections.

A “contingency” plan, Metz said, is to bypass Fallouja – and perhaps other violent enclaves – and concentrate on ensuring electoral security in Baghdad and other population centers where hostility is lower. [Emphasis added]

You really can’t make up shit like that. (Thanks to Blair for the link.)

Well that makes sense; the central government has no sovereignty outside of Baghdad so why should there be a vote? At any rate they wouldn?t choose the correct candidate so I suspect the Fallujah ballot boxes would end up in the Tigris anyway.

Gosh it looked so easy on paper.

Washington – The United States remains on course to hold landmark elections in November, but violence could force authorities to exclude hotspots such as the eastern city of New York from voting, a top U.S. general said here Sunday.

US to limit voting in Iraq due to “violence”

“A “contingency” plan… is to bypass Fallouja – and perhaps other violent enclaves – and concentrate on ensuring electoral security in Baghdad and other population centers where hostility is lower.”

Kenosha Kid; A closer reading would show that the government doesn’t really intend to exclude New Yorkers from voting, they’ve just moved their polling places to Anchorage. If they choose not to take advantage of the opportunity to vote, that just shows how unpatriotic they really are. In an unrelated story, all air travel to and from New York will be suspended starting 1 October due to vague threats based on old information.

I was expecting them to cancel US voting in all inner city neighborhoods for the same reasons. And what about all of Miami, as well.

Yay! We brought Democracy to 500 acres of Iraq! For our next trick, we’ll bring democracy to a football-field sized plot in Iran! And then: a small broom closet in North Korea! You can’t stop us, we’re Demo-crazy!
