Shorter Jeralyn Merritt
Karl Rove on Obama’s Exaggerations and Best Move for FL/MI
- I hate Barack Obama so much that I will approvingly cite Karl Rove’s opinion to back up my views.
‘Shorter’ concept created by Daniel Davies and perfected by Elton Beard.
And I just wanna say: Jeralyn Merritt has been an awesome and wicked-smaht blogger for years now. But I think that TalkLeft has become symbolic lately of the Asymmetrical St00p1d of anti-Obama blogging. This is not to say that Team Obama hasn’t done horrible things as well — the neo-Harry-and-Louise ad that they used to demonize Clinton’s health care plan was particularly terrible, and was rightly condemned by Big Pauly K and others.
But jeebus, Jeralyn. You’re citing Karl Rove to make your case. I’m an Obama guy, but you don’t see me citing Andrew Sullivan to make my points, do you?
UPDATE: I just want to point out how much this primary sucks, because I’ve thought nothing but 4w3s0m3 things about TalkLeft for a long time. I hate fighting with people I otherwise agree with on pretty much everything.
Ugh. We need a Unity ’08 ticket. How has Atrios’ proposed Sharpton-Tancredo ticket been doing lately?
I’m an Obama guy, but you don’t see me citing Andrew Sullivan to make my points, do you?
Actually, I DO see that. But in a good way, for goodness’ sake!
By the way, those “Harry & Louise” ads were sponsored by the HIAA, which represented all the “small” and “medium” (in terms relative to the industry) insurance & HMO companies which were left out of Hillary’s plan to basically hand all of U.S. health care to the 5 largest insurers & HMO’s.
Overall I’m not sure that I preferred that health care be handed over formally to an oligopoly of 5.
Forget Jeralyn: why in hell is Karl Rove spouting Hillary’s talking points? It’s not like Limbaugh, Scaife, and Murdoch are working for her.
Wait…a…second.
As I told you leftards earlier today. Obama does not stand a chance in the general election. McCain will absolutely bury him.
Obama is perhaps the most unelectable candidate the democratic party has nominated in its pathetic history. Compared to Obama, George McGovern looks like leftist “salvation!”
Perhaps Obama’s greatest liability is his own “pastor”. That racist anti-American pig has stained Obama’s campaign even more than Obama’s own lack of Patriotism and even more than Obama’s own unexusable hatred for his Country.
Obama should just go back to Chicago and get a job as Louis Farrakhan’s motivational speaker because the poor boy doesn’t stand a chance in American politics.
She agreed to sit down with Scaife.
That’s it.
That did it.
Any lingering good feelings I had for her are gone.
I’ve never been to talk left before. After visiting it I don’t think I’ll ever be back again.
Talk Left? How about Talk Up Hillary?
Matt McMahon, the new troll.
You could at least TRY to be funny…
You know, like Ruppert and Saul used to be?
But no, you just write dull concern-trollish shit
that bore us to… well, not even to tears… you don’t even have the decency to ACTUALLY bore us THAT much.
You just bore us.
I guess we can expect the Hillary campaign to start quoting Matt McMahon now.
I see Matt McMahon is no longer pretending to be one of us ebil libruls. That lasted all of what, a day or two?
> She agreed to sit down with Scaife.

Wake up and smell the unity.
I see Matt McMahon is no longer pretending to be one of us ebil libruls. That lasted all of what, a day or two?
BUT HE HAD US ALL FOOLED!!!!1111ONEONEONEONE
I don’t understand why a Democrat would listen to Karl Rove about anything, let alone matters related to their party. Does she think Rove has the Democratic Party’s best interests sincerely at heart?
As much as I despise the Clinton’s, at least they don’t openly hate their own Country.
Yeah, Obama is supremely unelectable.
You can tell this by the massive popular support and financial support he has generated, unlike the awesome establishment reach of Walter Mondale, Michael Dukakis, and even John Kerry, all of whom proved that the Democratic Party establishment knows everything it needs to know and it doesn’t mean anything at all that 2 years into Bill Clinton’s first term the Democrats lost Congress for a dozen years, as well as state & local governments, and led directly to the Bush Jr absolute power triumvirate.
But yeah, other than that, Obama’s completely unelectable.
At least Barack Obama hates Matt McMahon, who really wishes he was Vince.
“…even more than Obama’s own unexusable hatred for his Country.”
Uhm, I think the word you were looking for is inexcusable. Unexcusable isn’t actually a word.
English is a pretty flexible language, but that doesn’t mean you can just make shit up.
TonyRz, yeah, indeed.
To hell with Hillary and the Vast Rightwing Conspiracy she rode in on.
Sorry if my English isn’t up to par with you pampered leftys. I am a working class man not a spoiled coastal elitist.

He sure likes pie.
“Sorry if my English isn’t up to par”
It’s mostly the making shit up part that’s annoying.
Apricot? Cherry? Bourbon/Pecan?
Oh, no, not another f***ing fake parody troll in the Gary / Heartland mode. What the f***ing f***. Jebus F***ing Christ on a G** D***** pogo stick.
It’s like that “Dr BLT” idiot who keeps trying to push his rotten, crapped-out-in-5-seconds, er, ‘songs’ on here as though anyone who is stupid enough to listen sees anything even worth objecting to.
God.
Honestly, I wanted a Feingold/Optimus Prime ticket, but then I found out that Feingold wouldn’t run and that Optimus Prime isn’t real.
Let’s face it, people will cling to whatever validation for their opinion they can dig up. Though the reverence for Karl Rove–from all sides–is highly misplaced. The guy just isn’t that good. He had a hot streak on other people’s coattails there for awhile. Now, I pay him no more mind than I do any other mouth.
I don’t understand why a Democrat would listen to Karl Rove about anything…
Hell, since ’06, I can’t figure out why a Republican would listen to Karl Rove about anything.
I just hope he gets to live the whole “the people you meet on the way up are the ones you meet on the way down” thing.

Hi Karl , er….”Matt” . Does the Matt persona have any of his own distinctive “thoughts”? Jes curious . (Love to see a genius work, even an evil genius 😉
How….Sharpton-Tancredo ticket been doing lately?
Should be doing well . Near universal depisal, with a few very devoted followers has worked well for Cheney-Bush 😉
I laughed.
By the way has something happened to Jillian? I never see her posting anymore.
Jeralyn, come back to to the aspens turning, and to life!
McMahon, don’t make me set down my latte and come over there and put a Birkenstock up your ass.
-GSD
Jeralyn was dead wrong on Schiavo.
And she got into bed with Fox News Channel.
Her judgment is more than a little suspect.
Anyone want to put money on Hillary seeking and trumpeting an endorsement from Ken Starr?
El Cid – many of us were stupid enough to listen to and watch the Creed videos all week and even that repost of BLT by Bubba. Just sayin’…
Look, Matt, if you’re gonna keep comin’ round here, can you give us something to work with. I mean, saul has the whole “Shalom gentleman,” and the “I’m a rabbi in Iowa who only talks to white Christian folks, the true chosen people.” Gary has the screaming frothing crazy, and “The fact is.”
Brian St. Pierre has …. wait, he has being the third-string QB for the Steelers. Chris St. James has his whole being Saul’s sockpuppet.
You? Well, so far, you’ve done “I’m a liberal, and you disgust me.” Now you’re trying to mine the heartland vein, and coming off like a Z-grade Peter Boyle in “Joe.” Come on, man up and get a solid schtick.
If you’re looking for ideas, I don’t think there’s a good log-cabin Republican troll yet, but I’m kinda new and I might have missed something.
Anyone who would vote for Hillary in the primary and McCain in the general because they think Obama is just too cocky and uppity, please take a second and play fantasy cabinet.
Obama or Hillary will probably have.
State–Biden
Def– Webb
Attorney General–John Edwards
Energy– Gore (put him in charge of the New Apollo program)
VP–Sebalis or Nepolitano
McCain
State- Rice again
Def– Hell he`ll do it himself
AG–Ted Olsen
Energy– Abolished.
VP– Lieberman
Not to mention the terror of McCain Supreme court pics. I`m guessing Santorum.
So to the Strong Democratic women who fought for equality, but are willing to give the vote to McCain, EVERYTHING you did will be gone. Title IX. Roe v. Wade, all of it.
Please be a bit more responsible with your vote than you are acting now.
I was hoping for a Hector Chavez / Fred Thompson ticket. Or maybe Adam Yoshida / Bill Ayers.
In other news, John McCain met with the Viet Cong for advice on his presidential campaign.
Couldn’t agree more on Brad’s take on what I view as the slow downfall of Jeralyn’s once awesome blog. The most pathetic part about the Karl Rove’s appearance is that all his comments, other than about Rezko, were cut and paste from a April 2007 RNC press release just before Obama made his first appearance on Letterman. Some of the so-called exaggerations were just crap. For example, Obama’s first grade teacher was the source for the assertion that he wasn’t fluent in Indonesian.
This primary is just awful. Colorado, where Jeralyn is, will be a razor-thin close race in November, how is her going so far out against Obama going to help? Will she pivot at the convention, sit it out, or decide, like Hillary suggests, that St. McCain is more fit to be CIC?
Or maybe Adam Yoshida / Bill Ayers.
Hell yeah! Macrowaves in ’08!
Matt McMahon = mammoth cant
I just want to point out how much this primary sucks, because I’ve thought nothing but 4w3s0m3 things about TalkLeft for a long time. I hate fighting with people I otherwise agree with on pretty much everything.
I’m sorry, but quoting Karl Rove sans comment is some Crossing the Rubicon shit. I hope she waves to John Cole as she crosses him going in the other direction.

Not sure what this means but it got me laffin’
All I can say beyond this is Adam Yoshida rawks!
White (or Canadian wannabe Amurican eliminationist nationalists) rawk!
I’m with ya, man! And Full Sail Amber enthralled! (know what I’m sayin’?)
What the fuck is this?
He claimed that he had a racial awakening at the age of 9 by reading a LIFE magazine article about an African-American man was scarred physically and mentally by trying to make himself look more white. LIFE magazine and Ebony magazine never published such an article.
Yeah, because nobody who could forget the title of a magazine they read 38 years ago could be fit for the Presidency.
Does this remind anybody of when Huckabee started to be a serious nominee? Suddenly the right-wing commentators were deathly afraid of far-right Christianity. The party started to pull itself apart because a candidate embraced the positions that, um, the candidates were always told to embrace.
The Hillary/Obama split isn’t really analogous, but it still sort of seems the same, in that suddenly people are willing to switch parties if their nominee isn’t elected, in spite of the fact that the rhetoric of the past 8 years has been about how awful all of Bush’s policies are. Suddenly, out of the blue, you have people just completely reversing their stated positions.
I dunno.
Talkleft Commentor Snore: “Disgraceful” would be, like, going after Obama’s kids. Saying a lecturer isn’t a professor might be a lame attack or it might not, but it’s hardly “disgraceful.” Arguing that such an attack might have some salience, particularly as part of a larger narrative, is an opinion. It’s not “disgraceful.”
It’s hard to maintain credibility when the outrage meter is always turned up to 11. Argue a lecturer isn’t a professor? HOW DARE YOU!!
To put this is context, what happened is that Obama said he was a professor when he was really just a college teacher. See, he suggested he was on or trying to get tenure, and more involved in research then teaching, whereas really he was more involved in teaching then in research.
I think we can all see how important it is to be completely specific in cases like these, lest the voters be mislead.
You know, this is why people hate politics. Karl Rove or some other douchebag shit-head brings up a “lie” that isn’t the slightest bit relevant to anything at all. Then somebody explains how it wasn’t a lie, it was a misquoting of a paraphrasing. The the original person argues that paraphrasing, in this case, constitutes a lie. Then we get into a long, head-ache inducing discussion of the intricacies of the college tenure system, and whether any teacher is permitted to call themselves a professor, and I want to throw a brick through my computer monitor and go play nintendo!
Fuck, I thought, when I read this, that it would at least be Talkleft quoting Rove’s ideas about strategy, or bringing up some big lie about policy that Obama had told, or something. Instead I see DEMOCRATS starting up another god-damn round of “I invented the internet!”
I SWEAR TO GOD PEOPLE. I changed my registration from “Independent” to “Democrat” so I could vote in the primary. I know it’s mostly a symbolic gesture, but I’m just about sure I’m gonna switch right back after this. And I was so excited about the Democratic race.
It’s times like this I wish I was more fluent in the art of swearing.
As much as I despise the Clinton’s, at least they don’t openly hate their own Country.
For a far left, Eurotrash, Islamofacist, tree hugging, terrorist loving type, Matt, can you tell me, what is wrong with hating your country? I hate my country (well the country that i have a passport for). Or is this an American thing (like apple pie, truck racing and beauty pageants for four year olds), does the pledge of allegiance have a “I love my country” line?
And just for everyone’s troll list here, what is you made up backstory? We will pull it apart in about 20 mins, but its Friday afternoon and I need a laugh.
How is it possible to prefer Karl Rove and McCain over Obama and still call oneself a Democrat? I’m not understanding this at all.
I’m sure Matt is from somewhere in the Heartland that is not Falls Church, Virginia.
He is a working man, I’m assuming at a job where he says “You want fires with that?” several dozen times a day.
And I bet he’s home-schooled so as to not be fooled by any of that liberal “evolution” or “global warming” or “slavery was bad” propaganda.
And hunting. Lots of hunting. Deer and water buffalo and things like that, freely roaming the Heartland.
Loves Cheetos and Mountain Dew.
Subscribes to Soldier of Fortune.
You know. The usual.
The occasional acid flashback?
Yeah, a lot of that is predictable, I was more wondering what his story was, you know the sad little one in his head. Like Saul’s made up rabbi stories, or Gary’s screams of ‘teh HEARTLAND’, where else could he pretend he is? He has a kind of different way of writing to the others, so he may have a different backstory, like persecuted Texan rancher, drunken Hawanai ex-surfer, or former fluffer in L.A. But whatever he is; “9-11 changed him”, and don’t you forget it!!!
Sept. 11 changed me too, I must admit.
I used to be fairly tolerant of conservatives, but then they started calling me traitor because I *gasp* didn’t agree with Fearless Leader
I also have fairly little patience with people who call me an extreme leftist just because I want to see FEWER dead Americans.
Obama is perhaps the most unelectable candidate the democratic party has nominated in its pathetic history. Compared to Obama, George McGovern looks like leftist “salvation!”
Only one in ten people know that he’s a Muslim and even less than that appear to know that he’s colored man. At least McGovern was a white man, when your candidates this time are a lady and a negro Islamoterraist…….not that I have anything against Muslims (Montana built the first mosque in the USA of America in 1929). At least Muslims have heartland values like how women shouldn’t be allowed to drive or vote or be out in public. On the other hand, at least the Clinton’s don’t hate their country (and they give freely of their essence).
For a far left, Eurotrash, Islamofacist, tree hugging, terrorist loving type, Matt, can you tell me, what is wrong with hating your country? I hate my country (well the country that i have a passport for).
You are missing the point, Lobbey Dosser. Mattroll is invoking one of the planks of American exceptionalism.
As I understand this narrative, the nation-states of Old Europe are each built on common ethnic / cultural roots, shared by all citizens of the state, so it is meaningless to ask whether a citizen loves the state. It would be like asking whether you love your family.
In contrast, you do not automatically love your school, so you learn a school song to encourage a sense of shared purpose. In the same way, the US is a cosmopolitan melting-pot of peoples from whom a national identity must be, umm, forged. They may come from all around the world but they are united by an abstraction, the concept of Freedom.* They must love their country, so that things do not fall aprt if the centre cannot hold (whereas if central authority failed in Scotland, Lobbey would merely relapse to the Scottish traditions of whisky-distilling and cattle-reaving and sheep buggery, because these things are in his blood).
Naturally we outside onlookers feel free to ridicule the Americans for this simple-minded national mythos. It is not as if politicians in England or Scotland have ever responded to what they perceive as an increase in cultural / ethnic diversity in those countries, by proposing that citizens should learn a US-style oath of allegiance.
If I’m wrong about all this, I’m sure the commentariat will correct me. Hell, they’ll probably correct me even if I’m right.
* Offer not open to Spanish speakers.
Smut, fair point, caller. But trying to grasp this American exceptionalism is difficult, particularly when it leads to the level of ignorance in that very country, which leads to, well you know. (on that subject, and completely O/T, I was watching ‘Are you smarter than a 5th grader last night’, and one of the contestants got the question ‘which has the longest border with the US?’ wrong!!!!).
As for the ‘whisky-distilling and cattle-reaving and sheep buggery’, well, bit of a stretch for me as a non teuchter. As I grew up in Glasgow, it would be more of regressing to knife fights, chronic heart disease and bitter religious hatred. Well, perhaps not regressing…..
and no, I’m not proud of watching; “Are you smarter than a 5th grader?”
Damn. When I was trying to portray the narrative that underlies troll’s philosophy, I forgot to make it clear that this may not be shared by everyone. Now I must make amends by describing my surgery scars.
a job where he says “You want fires with that?” several dozen times a day.
I wouldn’t mind a job like that.

As long as you get to where a nifty headset while doing it.
So “Talk Left” but “Quote Right”?
Sheesh, what’s next, Shorter Taylor Marsh?
I honestly do not get the Obamaphobia coming from certain quarters of the left.
But I find the Hillaryphilia even more inexplicable. I mean, I might understand it if Hillary was anything approaching a true progressive like, for example, Russ Feingold. But she isn’t.
See now, Toupeed in Montana is a quality parody troll.
This would look better if I knew how to make an accented ‘e’.
If you’re looking for ideas, I don’t think there’s a good log-cabin Republican troll yet, but I’m kinda new and I might have missed something.
I used to spend quite a bit of time over at Pam’s House Blend and we had a very Kevinesque troll – in fact, he probably was Kevin/Saul/Chris St James. First he was a very concerned conservative who wanted to save all the poor little fags from the clutches of the Devil and the Democrats. Sometimes he would get called out for something particularly stupid or forget his meds and launch into a homophobic rant.
Finally he got banned for hate speech, only to be reincarnated as a Catholic Libertarian with a dearly beloved gay brother who agreed with him on absolutely everything. In fact, his poor brother felt so persecuted by all of us nasty liberal gays that he couldn’t bear to come on to defend himself.
Then he got banned again and tried to come back as a gay Republican. That was about as convincing as Matt McMahon’s Christian socialism, but even more hilarious. I’m starting to think it may be time to roll out a Unified Troll Theory.
But I find the Hillaryphilia even more inexplicable. I mean, I might understand it if Hillary was anything approaching a true progressive like, for example, Russ Feingold. But she isn’t.
I never thought I’d say this, but her gender has a lot to do with it. I remember “Redstocking” commenting for a while over at Obsidian Wings and Ezra Klein, who devoutly maintained that Hillary would help poor senior women in need of longterm care more than Obama would on the basis that she is a woman. The concept of class entering into it as much as gender was one she simply refused to consider; Hillary being a woman meant she understood all of Redstocking’s most important issues more than Obama ever could.
The fact is, you leftists doing battle with each other assures me that WE here in the heartland will win our country once more.
Try not to make serious points with fake Gary please. Damages the circuitry.
He claimed that he had a racial awakening at the age of 9 by reading a LIFE magazine article about an African-American man was scarred physically and mentally by trying to make himself look more white. LIFE magazine and Ebony magazine never published such an article.
Hillary Clinton claimed she was named for Sir Edmund Hillary, but he was an unknown at the time of her birth; she later admitted she was wrong. DISQUALIFIED! Thank the Flying Udon Monster for Saint McCain!
The fact is, the Heartland needs to start eating a Heart-healthy diet and to occasionally get off its fat ass and break a sweat not caused by fear of the dark-skinned, or it is heading to Coronary Country.
Oh, fer fucks sakes. When political campaigns are reduced to “debunking” the minute details in candidates’ stories of their childhood memories, you know we’ve gone too far.
If you’re looking for ideas, I don’t think there’s a good log-cabin Republican troll yet, but I’m kinda new and I might have missed something.
I beg to differ. I think Rogered in Montana is a prime candidate for our Log Cabin Troll.
Matt McMahon is basically a generc troll – kind of like a troll wearing a white t-shirt that says TROLL in black letters. This is why he fails. He can’t measure up to the quality of troll products put out by the major brands. Saul is the Mogen David kosher troll; Kevin is the troll put out by the mainstream company appealing to the young; Gary is the troll put out by the trusted and reliable blue-chip firm; Chris St. James is sort of like the RC Cola troll. But Matt is BORING and BLAND. His trolliness is too full of preservatives and sodium nitrate and high-fructose corn syrup.
Yeah, I haven’t seen a woman gloat over her husband’s death like that since those 9/11 bitches.
whoops wrong thread
If you think Jeralyn Merritt has crossed a line, go take a look at a blog called noquarterusa.net — those people bring teh crazy like nobody’s business. I’m starting to wonder if it’s not actually a right-wing Karl Rove project masquerading as a pro-Hillary site.
Merritt also advocates the “individual rights” interpretation of the 2nd Amendment. She’s a criminal defense lawyer and the adversarial advocate style dominates her blog as well. She’s interested in pushing her causes, not debating their merits. Which is what leads her to do stupid things like cite Karl Rove and defend the heroine of Tuzla’s statements as exaggerations rather than the lies they obviously were.
Anyone heard from Jillian lately? Is she still on this site?
Ah, yet another one of Lindsay Graham’s rent boys. Ordinarily I’d feel sympathy for anyone with such a disgusting job, but Matt loves it so.
Montana built the first mosque in the USA of America in 1929
Man, 1929 was a big year for Montana. Wasn’t that the year you guys put an end to slavery too?
Jeralyn has recently taken a shine to Ann Althouse too. Witness this…
http://www.talkleft.com/story/2008/3/6/212931/1858
I can’t believe that 8 years of continual lying and prevarication can get a ‘pile o’ shit’ like Rove quoted on what I thought was a progressive website. The pimple of Bush’s ass has more credibility then Karl Rove. People shouldn’t be repeating his crap they should be ignoring it.
So Rove’s lack of connection to reality now can be used to beat up Obama? God people the enemy of your enemy is not your friend, he is the guy who is gonna destroy what ever is left.
Brad,
The worst thing about citing Karl Rove is that we have all seen this show before. Remember Al Gore? Love Story? Invented the internet? I voted before it before I voted against it? Remember John Kerry? Self inflicted wounds?
Same play, same audience, same cast, except for the lead role (Obama is now the incorrigible liar).
I’m starting to wonder if it’s not actually a right-wing Karl Rove project masquerading as a pro-Hillary site.
I’m starting to wonder if the entire Hillary Clinton campaign isn’t a right-wing Karl Rove project.
As a New Yorker, I was a strong supporter of her first Senate run. I haven’t experienced such buyer’s remorse since I blew $1000 on Betamax.
In another thread, mikey recently mentioned that he’d heard from her and that she’s OK.
And . . . now the U of C has released a statement saying that yes, Obama was indeed a “professor.”
What a cheap little talking point that was. Dead now, thankfully.
Cool, thanks for the update. Any reason she’s not around these parts any more?
I’ve thought BTD was a moron for quite some time now because he’s obnoxious, not thoughtful, possesses little analytical ability and…oh yeah, he’s a moron. But I’ve liked Jeralyn…at least until recently. I’m done with those clowns until after the election is over.
Any site that you have to register to comment on is inherently fascist.
So fuck ’em.
Fascists.
But how can she be asking Obama to take Rove’s advise? Obama Derangement Syndrome?
They didn’t say. I had the impression her absence was temporary.
Matt McMahon is basically a generc troll – kind of like a troll wearing a white t-shirt that says TROLL in black letters
Hm…maybe we need to update the grease monkey script so that it beeps and posts a barcode with the word TROLL, 9.99.
(Prices may vary by location.)
Ahem. Hel-lo!
Ah, yet another one of Lindsay Graham’s rent boys. Ordinarily I’d feel sympathy for anyone with such a disgusting job, but Matt loves it so.
I like Howie Klein’s name for Graham. Mini-me.
Count Larry Johnson over at No Quarter in same boat. I really don’t have a problem with Hillary – I do have a problem with her supporters and members of her team like Penn and Wolfson. All emotion – I just don’t get it.
And No! I’m not trying to make some misogynistic snide comment with the emotion thing.
Sorry if my English isn’t up to par with you pampered leftys. I am a working class man not a spoiled coastal elitist.
Matt:
If you claim to be a Democrat, why do you use right wing talking points? Do you consider Wisconsin to be full of coastal elites? How about Illinois? They tend to vote Democratic on the national level. Tell me something. How did a bunch of cow tippers and diary farmers elect one of the most Progressive members of the Senate? I never knew diary farmers were Birkenstock wearing latte sippers.
Only rubber boots in the dairy barn! You have to be able to hose off the cow poo.
Damn, I’ve missed that Surber guy’s head! Hey everyone!
I found another one, if you haven’t seen it yet. There’s an actual blog called Obama Watch. Packed full of posts, too. Obamaphobia is running amok! What a year….
My memory may be playing tricks again, but I seem to remember that Jeralyn Merritt endorsed Arnold Freaking Schwarzenegger in the California recall election, and that was pretty much the last time I paid attention to TalkLeft. I’m sure she’s smart and well intentioned and a good lawyer, but her political standards are really unpredictable and sometimes just plain out to lunch.
Anyone want to put money on Hillary seeking and trumpeting an endorsement from Ken Starr?
Would it surprise anyone here if she hired him to do opposition research or something?
Who knew the PUNKY QB was a closet right-winger? As a Chicagoan, I still love you for 1985 McMahon.
Anyhoot, was this original post a little nastier against Clinton supporters this morning? I seem to remember a different Update than the current one.
I still support Hillary and it does piss me off that anyone would use Karl Rove for anything other than a dartboard. It sucks. No excuses.
Man, 1929 was a big year for Montana. Wasn’t that the year you guys put an end to slavery too?
It was Wyoming that ended slavery in 1929. Montana held out until 1952.
I never knew diary farmers were Birkenstock wearing latte sippers.
I’m not sure of what birkenstockers are but I suspect they were wearing latte SLIPPERS rather than “sippers” (I don’t even want to think about how that might be possible). Hey, by the way, who are these Log Cabin Republicans? They sound like folks that would be comfortable in my neck of the woods. There are log cabins everywhere here!
At myDD Jerome Armstrong linked approvingly to Victor Davis Hanson. If you dive into comments at myDD or TalkLeft you’ll find repeated “yea what he said” pointing directly to the Corner.
There are log cabins everywhere here!
Yeah, I hear there’s a lot of ’em around Brokeback, MT. 😉
bjd: At myDD Jerome Armstrong linked approvingly to Victor Davis Hanson. If you dive into comments at myDD or TalkLeft you’ll find repeated “yea what he said” pointing directly to the Corner.
Part of the reason that that Talkleft post drives me to incoherent rage is that Brad was vague about what Karl Rove said, so this was my thought process:
“KARL ROVE?! HE’S EVIL! Wait… calm down, even a stopped clock is right twice a day. Once a year Ace of Spades says something I agree with, and just because you agree with an evil person on one thing doesn’t mean you agree with them about everything. I don’t want to be like Jonah Goldberg and get angry just because of some Democrat doesn’t disagree with Karl Rove at all times about everything. I should really go see what he said. Probably something about strategy that’s arguably wrong but not completely unreasonable. After all, a liberal blog wouldn’t just pass along one of his patented contentless smears, would they?”
Speaking of Rove, Obama appears to have taken his advice…followed every about every suggestion Rove gave him. Or Axelrod, Obama’s creator, and Rove think
alike.
Maddie, very well thought out assertions, backed up by evidence and not all incoherent. You’ve convinced me.
Christopher,
This is what Jerome agreed with. Not a stopped clock.
More than once, I donated on TL’s fundraising drives. Don’t regret it, at the time Ms. Merrit was pushing hard on issues involving law enforcement and corrections reform. And Armando-cum-BTD was aiming his incontinence at the DKos community.
But Jeebus, I sure as shit can’t see reading TL regularly, much less “tipping”, anymore. I hadn’t checked in with them in a while, what’s there now is… ah well.
Bastards also tore down the drive-in in my home town and put a fucking Borders there. Can’t stop progress. Not even on the innertoobz.
I understand how Brad feels. I want Hillary; I don’t like or trust Obama much (though will vote for him IF I MUST); and bloggers whose work I love and regularly read, like Brad, keep insulting my intelligence even though I’m pretty sure that I reached the conclusion that Hillary was the better candidate by carefully weighing the facts.
BOTH the candidates are triangulators. Obama’s staff are as conservative as they can be. I’m amazed he garnered so much progressive support. With Edwards gone, Hill’s health care plan ought to have weighed more in the balance. It’s not her fault she looks and sounds like everyone’s highly effective, but scary, fourth-grade teacher.
[…] Journal thinks it’s a shame that some pro-Hillary blogs are quoting Republicans. So does Brad at Sadly, No! “You know who you are,” says Nelson M. of the LJ. [I’m shaking! I bet they know […]
It’s truly saddening to see Jeralyn sinking into the primordial ooze. She’s smart and her heart is in the right place, and she did a wonderful job with Talk Left of shredding the corrupt neocon-theocon K street machine during the Reign of Error of the drunk-driving C student in the oval office.
But now Jeralyn has los it. Talk Left now sounds like Red State or Little Green Footballs. Today, Talk Left seems to be all about the hate…and that’s sad.
The viciously cynical contempt for idealism and enthusiasm over at Talk Left nowadays (http://www.talkleft.com/story/2008/2/7/112248/5633 ) frankly makes me physically ill. Their frantically futile failed efforts to confect phony “scandals” around the Obama candidacy (including the absurd “wafflegate,” http://www.balloon-juice.com/?p=10187) make you want to cover your face with embarrassment when reading Jeralyn Merritt’s blog.
I don’t understand the hatred being unleashed against Obama by Merritt and the Hillary supporters. This race is over. Hillary has lost. She’s a good senator and a solid progressive Democrat and I would’ve been happy to have voted for her as president. Truth to tell, though, her time and Bill Clinton’s time has passed. The country no longer languishes in the thrall of the demented Reaganesque neocon-theocon lunacy that induced a mindless stupor in the electorate, and after Hurricane Katrina, people woke up and realized the gigantic evil of the senile sociopath Reagan’s Big Lie “government is the problem, not the solution.” And people want change.
Hillary is a good person, but she just isn’t that change we need right now. I have nothing against her. I hope when this is all over she goes back to being a senator and does as good as job promoting progressive legislation as she has done up till now. It’s not obvious to me why supporting Obama requires anyone to hate HIllary, or vice versa. We’re all in the together as Democrats and the big task ahead of us is to take back our country from the sadistic cabal of lunatics and thieves who’ve run it into the ditch these last 7 years.
