We’re screwed. Thoughts?

Now that both Hillary and Obama have been beaten to pulps in the press, and now that St. BBQ has gotten nothing but glowing coverage, do you think we’re completely screwed? I do. Check this out:

The lengthy Democratic primary contest bodes well for Republican chances of holding the White House, a new poll suggests.

As Democratic Senators Barack Obama of Illinois and Hillary Clinton of New York slug it out for the nomination, many of their supporters — at least in Pennsylvania, site of the next major primary — aren’t committed to the party’s ticket in November, according to a Franklin & Marshall College Poll.

Among Obama supporters, 20 percent said they would vote for Sen. John McCain of Arizona, the Republican nominee, if Clinton beats their candidate for the nomination. Among Clinton supporters, 19 percent said they would support McCain in November if Obama is the Democratic nominee.

And:

Frieda Andersen and Ted Skup are both white, both live in northwestern Indiana, and both plan to vote in their state’s Democratic presidential primary in May.

But ask them to reflect on the incendiary views of Senator Barack Obama’s former pastor, and the ensuing controversy that has engulfed the presidential race over the past week, and you get vastly different impressions.

Andersen, an 82-year-old retired business manager, said Obama’s two-decade-long association with the Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr., who is under fire for his harsh sermons condemning America and white racism, has pushed her firmly into Senator Hillary Clinton’s camp.

“Twenty years he put up with that?” she said of Obama. “He was softening me up. He was kind of even with Hillary. This cinched it.”

What makes this so goddamn depressing to me is that this primary isn’t revolving around policy disputes: it’s all about identity politics, and it’s becoming a nightmare that is likely to launch St. BBQ into the White House.

I’m really depressed now.

Sure it’s depressing. But it’s no reason to give up.

First, even if the Democrats can’t win the presidency, a good campaign can weaken McCain.

Secondly, we can do what we can to get Democrats into other positions so we can prevent or mitigate the damage.

Third, if McCain makes it then we watch him like a hawk and make sure every mistake he’ll inevitably make is broadcast as far as we can – and further discredit the Republicans.

Finally, we got a long way to go. The election isn’t tomorrow.

Bahh – you overreact. Saying you’ll vote for the St. BBQ in March and actually pulling the lever in September are two wildly different things.

The Democrats could nominate a cardboard box and walk to the White House. Sure, I’m exaggerating, but it’s true. The Republicans are rightly despised and reviled all across this great nation.

I’m not too worried. The PA primary is still a ways off, and eventually, the media will run out of steam on snowballing the same damn “controversy” back and forth, and eventually cover the next young white chick who goes missing, and everyone’s palate will be cleansed with the fine sorbet of a three day attention span.

Failing that, the primaries WILL end, believe it or not and much to the sadness of the talking heads who know deep down that they serve no purpose and have no useful skills, and at that point, those numbers will go down. How many wingnuts have said they’ll rather vote for Hillery over McCain? How much do you want to bet that won’t actually happen? (Although, considering how many of the wingnuts owe their very livelihood to the Clintons, I could be wrong. You’re WELCOME, by the way. Geez.)

I’d invite you all to witness my imminent suicide, but I worry there won’t be enough cake to go around.

Thoughts? It’s MARCH you crazy kid.

Not October or September or August. March. The more the press runs photos and footage of McCainiac, the more people will look at him and think of their gramps and how much they love him but they hate changing his diapers and how uncomfortable they feel when he starts talking about crazy shit in the middle of dinner.

But most importantly, it’s Friday. Have a beer, put your feet up. I’ll send for the Swedish Massage Team.

Brad, did you really expect the election would be about the issues?

DragonScholar said,

Oh, you mean like if he publicly, repeatedly confuses Iran with Al Qaeda?

Yes, that would have to sink him instantly. The media would be all over him. Even conservatives would turn their back on him, because that would be a fuckup beyond the pale.

I’m ordering more cake. You’re all invited.

After Labor day we are going to paste Bush all over McCain .

Yeah, I ain’t too worried either. The average memory of an American voter is roughly the same as a five year old ADHD kid on Ritalin. Two weeks ago is considered “ancient history”. As soon as either Obama or Hillary gets the nod from the DNC, everyone will forget about their threats to vote for McCain if their candidate drops out.

Also, a lot still depends on who they’re going to pick for VP. What if McCain really fucks up his VP choice… like say Giuiliani? What if there’s a Hillary/Obama ticket? Yeah, that’ll make everyone’s head asplode.

Don’t misunderestimate McCain’s chances of letting the American people practice their love of women.

Wait…

Brad, did you really expect the election would be about the issues?

I’d hoped the Dem primary would be about the issues at least.

Hillary and Obama supporters (and I’m an Obama supporter) have been pissing me off lately. They bloody need to understand that four years of St. BBQ are not going to be good at all.

If John McCain killed and ate a newborn baby on live TV this afternoon the media would respond by comparing Jeremiah Wright to Charles Manson, and the Clinton campaign would consider it further proof that Obama isn’t prepared to be president

Florida No Vote

You wrote: “it’s all about identity politics, and its becoming a nightmare”. Hillary Clinton has been dealing with this all along. Obama is just starting to get a taste.

Yeah, and Limbastard said he was going to vote for Hillary if McCain was nominated. Ya think that’s going to happen?

Or Coulter campaigning for Hillary?

It’s easy to say that stuff as ultimatums, but there’s still a few months. the general won’t happen in the heat of the primary, and either candidate will have some time to make peace with the other’s supporters.

Besides, I’m less than a day’s drive from Canada.

There is still a lot of time left.

The concern I’m having right now is the way the press has been covering McCain’s senior/willful liar moments. What started as an ‘honest mistake’ has turned into a factual talking point for his supporters and handlers. ‘Of course Iran is training terrorists!’ If he can keep slipping these halucinated talking points into the general wash of political noise while the media keeps manufacturing some kind of mud wrestling event between Obama and Hillary, there will be a whole lot of bogus bullshit to overcome once the general election arrives.

That said, I’m really looking forward to actual Obama/McCain debates.

Not so much looking forward to Hillary/McCain debates. Her crack (addled) campaign team will step on absolutely every land mine that the GOP sets out in front of her. They won’t even have to bury them.

Look at the calendar– it is March. An awful lot of things are going to happen between now and November. I’m not too worried. Getting worried now about the general election is like being worried that my Mets are going to lose the World Series because Moises Alou and Carlos Delgado are currently injured. There’s a reason they play the games.

Let’s see how John McGrumpypants holds up during a long, blistering general election campaign. So far his most formidable challenge has come from the shoestring campaign of Mike Huckabee. Beating the Dems– either of them– is going to be a far greater challenge.

The low-information swing voters who will be so crucial haven’t really realized that the “maverick” McCain is really a phony, no different from the current empty suit in the White House. Obama and Clinton are not softball politicians– whoever is the nominee will attack McCain and HARD. I think it will be extremely easy to frame McCain as a bitter, out-of-touch old crank who supports disastrous policies. He’s already saber-rattling with Iran, fer chrissakes.

John McCain will not be President of the United States.

We’re 7 months and change from the election. In political terms, that’s about 872 lifetimes. Pay more attention to how well the candidates are doing relative to realistic expectations. McCain is treading water despite having a free ride at the moment, and while the Rove margin, the St. BBQ effect, and the stupidity of the average American make anything possible, Obama has given me reason for confidence. This ain’t McGovern. Obama’s people ain’t just organized, they’re prepared.
I’m not sayin have faith, but be confident.

Think of it as basketball. There’s a whole game to play and then the important two minutes happen.

The polling will change once the Democratic candidate starts tying McCain to Bush with pretty hug pictures.

Nobody hates Democrats more than other Democrats – it has always been thus.

What the Clinton camp is thinking about is puzzling, however – do they actually think they can pull this one out? Are they willing to gamble that pushing this ever closer to a convention fight, leaving raw feelings all around, will buy them enough time for Obama to implode in some fashion and open the way? Do they know something that will break, or are they still in shock that it looks like some nobody from Illinois has eaten their lunch and think it’s some sort of fluke that will right itself?

I’ve learned to not underestimate the ability of Dems to blow an election, but honestly this one would be truly shocking if they let another Bush presidency happen.

The wingers and the media are obssessed with Jeremiah Wright right now. The winger’s obssession will continue until election day as they hope to win with distractions. The media will move on.

The collapsing economy, $105 oil and skyrocketing food prices are going to be a much bigger problem for Republicans than they currently think.

As proof of the power of a bad economy, I point you to the second terms of President Jimmy Carter and President George H.W. Bush.

Those aren’t good statistics for dems in November, and I probably fit in the 20% who wouldn’t vote for Clinton today. But that’s only if Clinton is selected by bullying superdelegates while losing the pledged delegates to Obama. If she wins fair and square, I would vote for her. Since there is no way she can win the pledged dels, a Clinton candidacy can’t occur if dems have any chance of winning. With Richardson endorsing Obama today, it maybe looks like the superdels get it.

As far as Obama/MCcain race, I’m not that worried, and I think it’s a good thing that the Wright thing and other Obama vulnerabilities are getting aired now. McCain seems every day even more aged and even a tad senile and his ignorance on economic issues will be front and center later on. Also, his hypocrisy in certain areas will be trotted out and will negate to a degree the Wright business. Obama will steadily convince the voters he’s a guy, though not perfect, who has his shit together–for the reason he does have his shit together.

SomeNYGuy sez:

“I’d invite you all to witness my imminent suicide, but I worry there won’t be enough cake to go around.”

So the choice *really is* cake or death?

Who knew?

Rather than seeing Obama and Clinton go at each other, they should be trying to out do each other in hitting McCain, so that we can see which would put up a better fight.
I blame Hil for starting this shit.

Brad, the Wright thing was going to come out and be an issue.

There was never, ever a doubt — in a way, it’s a VERY good thing it came out now.

]He’s still got the edge in the nomination and while the rightards will harp on it for 6 months, most people won’t. They’ll remember the speech.

More to the point, they’ll remember his speech in Denver, if and when he gets the nomination, while at least 10 to 15% of the whiny Clinton supporters will be able to convince themselves about the Audacity of Hope (counterexample: If Clinton’s the nominee, watch how fast Kos starts getting misty on her resiliency and grit) and will look to get onboard the Screw Whitey express.

By October, McCain will be tagged as a mush-eating, dottering codger — remember the public was WAY ahead of the press when it came to Bush distain. That and you and I, friend, we’ll be celebrating the Summer of Manny and another World Series championship for the Olde Town 9.

I think wingers will paint McBBQ as the Second Coming of St. Ronnie, “Looks, he’s OLD too!”

Meanwhile there is a war going on and the economy is about to tank, historically. Democrats are going to support someone who voted for the war for the second election in a row and they are going to lose. Americans generally care only about whatever they are fed on their television screens. They want to be told what is important and the less important it actually is, the better.
I don’t know what the point of this post was, but I really wish Duke would have lost last night.

Give me liberty or give me cupcakes.

(and please add an ‘L’ to my 17:39 post. If you remember how to spell ‘hallucinate’, you weren’t really there).

What about the only question that matters–What Would Cheney Do?

He wants a foothoId in the Middle East. I doubt either Obama or Clinton would abandon those expensive compounds to the Iraqis, so does it matter to Cheney who is elected? If it does, McCain will win. Not because of Cheney’s Evil Genius Conspiracy, but because he’s spent the last seven years putting people in place to make it happen.

If attacking Iran is necessary to get McCain elected or get ME oil, he’ll do it. If not, he won’t.

Take it easy. Seriously. Most of America heard the Rev. Wright sound clips and thought it was just the same voice that’s been playing in their own heads since 9/11. There is much less indignation that secret, guilty agreement.

The bobos and flyover types are all amped-up, the Dem camps are sniping at each other, schadenfreude is knee-deep all around.

But it IS only March. Conservatives are genuinely repelled by McCain. And, anyway, he just referred to Purim as the Jewish version of Halloween. In Israel. With Joe Lieberman correcting him in front of the camera. He is a barely-tapped mine of groaner fuck-ups that’s barely been tapped yet.

It’s going to be a wild ride. But, like Bill Paxton, I think we’re all inclined to scream “Game over, dude!” way too early in the cycle.

Obama has the tightest and best political organization I’ve ever seen. They enabled him to take Iowa despite the fact that John Edwards is pretty well-loved here. With Richardson’s endorsement and most Edwards supporters going to Obama, I’m not too worried. I forsee some of the other former Dem candidates coming out for Obama soon, especially the ones who see the opportunity for high profile positions in an Obama administration. I think more and more of the Congresscritters who endorsed Hillary early on are edging away from her.

I’m not too terribly worried; however, to paraphrase Mencken, no one ever lost an election by underestimating the intelligence of the American public. Many things could still go wrong, and unforseeable events are just that. If the worst thing they can come up with on Obama is his connection with a fiery preacher, though, they are screwed. This will be off the radar soon. He’s handled it. I’m actually somewhat more hopeful than I was.

I was a little, well, appalled is too harsh a word, let’s say put-off, by the maniacal zeal of some of Obama’s supporters early on. I’ve kind of changed my view on that. I think it would be a very good thing if Democrats could, just this once, give unabashed enthusiasm a spin. I think we need that right now. That sort of thing is contagious, and like it or not – and I don’t – this is an American Idol culture. We need to rock this election.

Mike Huckabee doesn’t have a problem with Wright (not sure if that helps though).

You know what? Bullshit. Both sides have not been playing “identity politics”. I was a John Edwards supporter, but he withdrew from the election prior to my opportunity to vote for him. I decided to vote for Obama because he better represented my positions. Since then, I have watched Hillary surrogates repeatedly inject race into the election. Bill Clinton raised it prior to South Carolina. Geraldine Ferraro prior to Ohio. Someone in her campaign forwarded the photo of Obama in traditional Somali garb to Matt Drudge. Someone in her campaign pointed the media to Jeremiah Wright. Clinton isn’t a racist, she’s just so ambitious that she is willing to do anything to try to wrest the nomination away from the candidate her party obviously prefers. If she were anyone else, she would have been pushed to leave the race already. Her ambitions have blinded her to the damage she has already done and contniues to do to our party’s standard bearer. It’s not that these issues wouldn’t be raised by McCain, it’s that McCain can now say “Even prominent Democrats question Obama”.

I won’t vote for McCain, but if Hillary does somehow manage to drive Obama from the race, I will be leaving the presidential line blank while I vote a straight Democratic ticket in November. And if Obama wins the nomination, but loses the general election, I will remember her contribution to that tragedy in 2012 when Hillary Clinton pursues the nomination again.

“a barely-tapped mine of groaner fuck-ups that’s barely been tapped yet”

OK, so I have a redundancy problem. I also have issues with repetition.

Meh, McCain has been permitted to skate because the Dem race is more newsworthy at the moment. At some point the media will have to actually look at McCain by virtue of him being the GOP nominee. At which point McCain will be forced to actually say stuff, thereby revealing him to be (a) nothing more than Bush 3.0, and (b) a stuttering moron.

Secondly, it’s STILL the economy, stupid.

Thirdly, Iraq is creeping back into the news because teh Glorious, Super Masculine and Totally Heterosexual Surge! is beginning to reveal itself to be a turd.

Fourth – assuming Obama is the Dem nominee, McCain can not compete in a live debate format when he doesn’t have Holy Joe Lieberman whispering lines in his ear.

The Dems do have to get their house in order quickly however. The longer McCain is permitted to actually learn how to form coherent thoughts, the better for him. I’m pretty sure Obama can stay above the smears. I mean, it’s March and while the winger lies and barks have hurt him, he is skilled enough to overcome them.

I am gay. I just hate them for ratings. But this whole thing is great for the republicans. Admit it. It will be even better if we get attacked again.

“Thirdly, Iraq is creeping back into the news because teh Glorious, Super Masculine and Totally Heterosexual Surge! is beginning to reveal itself to be a turd.”

This is not true. The surge worked, and you liberals hate that. You hate that we brought freedom to Iraq, and that real Americans made sacrifices to make it possible. You hate that. Oh, and I am also gay.

As far as Obama/MCcain race, I’m not that worried, and I think it’s a good thing that the Wright thing and other Obama vulnerabilities are getting aired now.

This was the best possible time for this Wright stuff to come out. Before all this stuff came out last week, Obama was in a strong enough position to weather a pretty damaging blow. Had this come before Super Tuesday we wouldn’t be talking about Barack Obama anymore. Obama will survive this. And let’s get real: the people who are really going to hold a grudge over the Wright flap are the closet racists, and they were probably never going to vote for Obama anyway. In their little addled brains, they’re saying, “See, he’s black after all!”

Decent people, on the other hand, were no doubt moved by Obama’s speech. That’s what the election will boil down to: the Decent People vs. The Assholes. As always. Maybe Brad’s right and we are fucked.

New troll? Or old troll, new mask?

Well, on the one hand it is incredibly depressing that after seemingly endless years of insane, criminal government, a majority of Americans are still utterly clueless, but on the other hand the bottom is going to fall out fairly soon and if McInsane is the President trying to put all the blame on Democrats will be marginally less succesful.

Decent people, on the other hand, were no doubt moved by Obama’s speech. That’s what the election will boil down to: the Decent People vs. The Assholes. As always. Maybe Brad’s right and we are fucked.

I guess I’m not the hardened cynic I thought I was. I realized just now that I think most people really are basically decent. I think if we can just get through the apathy, and above all, the fear that has been systematically instilled in them over the past eight years, they’ll mostly come out for Obama. And who better to get through the apathy, fear, and cynicism than Obama? The man’s a better speaker than Bill Clinton, and every bit as politically astute. I just can’t wait to see him debate McCain. It will be a bloodbath, but Obama won’t even break a nail.

The fact is, here in the heartland, WE are the decent people, and YOU, the coastal eleites, are the assholes. You support frauds, we support real men like John McCain, even if I did not initially because he is too liberal in some respects, but he will continue the good work begun by Reagan and continued by the Bushes, who were just awesome. We don’t need any hard left woman’s libbers or black nationalists who are Islamic to ruin our nation. We need steady leadership and straight talk.

What'sthelatinwordforradish?

May I suggest that we all take a page out of Mr. Obama’s book and remain calm, unruffled, with our heads down and moving forward, stepping over (and on) the ankle biters of the right wing as we go?

The simply absolutely fabulous surge:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/video/2008/mar/20/surgecollapse

Accorind to an ultra lieft, foreign media source. How biased. All lies.

The cake is a lie.

And it’s a little early to be succumbing to Democratic Defeatism, no?

The fact is, what is Osama Hussein worried about people discovering in his passport file? That he travelled to communist countries and trained in terrorist camps? If so, these men are heroes for trying to expose a traiter trying to gain access to the seat of power that he has no right to.

Gary’s right; Republican are committed to Reagan traditions of feeble, mentally unstable/senile, inept leaders. Too bad there was no serious disease outbreaks in Bush’s time, but oh well. Katrina is a decent enough substitute, I suppose…

“The fact is, what is Osama Hussein worried about people discovering in his passport file? That he travelled to communist countries and trained in terrorist camps?”

Hehehehe. Ohhh, fake Gary, you’re funny.

It’s the economy, stupid.

No one will vote for McCain. No fucking one.

I really don’t want to be rooting for a shitty economy. Hurts everyone. But the Republicans are leaving us with what’s shaping up to be the worst economic downturn since, well, the last time they left us with a sever economic downturn … no wait, the one before that one … yeah, that one.

It’s going to be bad and it’s happening now and the blood and body parts will be chumming the water so much that a Republican will not be trusted with the reins of power for the next 2 decades.

If you think I’m exaggerating … ask yourself what the hell just happened to Bear Stearns. BS is one of the sharks. They fucking bled out over a single fucking weekend. They had a 30 buck share price and a market cap in the fucking billions … and Morgan took them for 2 bucks a share, only on the condition that the feds guarantee 30 billion of their toxic waste.

That’s a pity fuck, people.

McCain is toast.

G. Ruppert

idjits rule!

Folks, I’m just waiting to see the debates. Can you imagine Obama vs. McCain? Please!

Even Hillary, if she gets the nod, will mop the floor with him.

The fact is, the ultra-left-liberal hate-USA media is attacking McCain 24-7 while fawning over a terrorism/muslim syntheiszer and a knopwn murderer who will make this country socialist and godless in a heartbeat and let blue helmets in to take over our food production and establish a caliphate.

Oh, yeah, the SUUUUUUURGE!!

It worked, so shut up. Iraq is now a conservative, Christian country with Wallmarts going up everywhere. Cakewalk, remember? All is well, nothing to see here. Great time was had by all. So now we can bring the troops home because the SUUUUURGE worked. Done deal.

Gary, they got into Hillary’s and McCain’s files too. Bipartisan corruption – always good.

Love how Condi says, “The system worked, the breach was exposed.” Uh, not so much, ’cause they breached Hillary’s files in 2007 and wouldn’t have found out if they hadn’t been caught with Obama’s.

“The fact is, what is Osama Hussein worried about people discovering in his passport file? That he travelled to communist countries and trained in terrorist camps? If so, these men are heroes for trying to expose a traiter trying to gain access to the seat of power that he has no right to.”

It took longer than I thought for the Junkie Limbaugh to fax its talking point out to the knuckle-draggers.

Seriously though, can’t you imaging the good little goose-steppers all wetting themselves in anticipation over what Rush, Ingram, Hannity et al would have to say about this?

who will make this country socialist and godless in a heartbeat

With what, super god-destroying x-rays? Wow, that’s some superpower. You better hide under the bed, Gary.

Obama’s “race scandal” is not the point. The only way that McCain can win it is if either the Obama or the Clinton haters among the Democrats refuse to vote for whoever is the final nominee, regardless of how that nominee is chosen. If every single registered Democrat votes for the final nominee, we win handly. The only time the Dems lose is when they defeat themselves.

I have pointed out, both on line and to friends, that while one may disagree with Clinton’s tactics, it’s her kind of in-your-face, punch to the gut campaigning that can defeat McSame. It’s fookin’ American politics, people, and as is oft said, it ain’t beanbag. I want a candidate who will take off the kid gloves and beat the living crap out of the Republican party, not someone who tries to make bi-partisan nicey-nice with them.

And, as was said in The World According to Garp, Hillary Clinton is “pre-disastered.” There is absolutely nothing about the Clintons that hasn’t been already thrown at them. Her Repug detractors are down to ranting about her tax returns and her WH schedule. *yawn*

I thought some months ago that Obama was un-vetted and there’s no telling what’s lurking in the skeleton closet. So now we know, and it’s news. And it’s going to make it a lot harder for Obama in the general.

So suck it up, Dems, and resolve to vote for the final nominee. And win. Or get all indignant about Hillary-the-cheater or Obama-the-black-racist and sit on your hands. And lose.

The choice is yours.

God, reading Gary is like reading the cycber sex AIM logs of someone who gets off to politics. Now Obama is not only a communist tourist, who’s been trained in the deadly arts of al-Qaeda-Fu by the communist branch of al Qaeda, but NOW he’s a acomplished murder, who wants to install atheist Sharia communist law under the direct rule of the UN Death Squads.

God, i’m so close. Work in Vince Foster, watergate, and chippachadwick (?) and make me climax.

We can cuddle afterwards and talk about how Kennedy faked the Apollo missions, and how FDR was really a nazi loving communist.

MrWonderful said,

So the choice *really is* cake or death?

It usually is but since I’m throwing this party, just this once it’s cake and death!

Typical Democrat

John McCain is a very bad man for wanting to kill those terror…oops… freedom fighters who are only sticking up for gay rights and women’s liberation.

Those enlightened muslims are very upset with us for portraying them as ignorant savages who want to kill everyone who is not muslim.

And Barrack Obama’s Pastor is absolutely right. The white man is the spawn of Satan who should be ASHAMED UTTERLY ASHAMED for inventing something so eveel as democracy, freedom and human rights. Who do they think them are.

All “decent” white men should follow my example and spray paint themselves brown.

Conservatives. hmf.

You forgot about our desire to ban heterosexual marriages and pregnancies that don’t end in abortion.

We also want to sell whites, Christian men into slavery in Africa. And ban gunsm cigarettes, alcohol, and penis’s over 4 inches in length.

Get it right.

Hell, I oughta just copy/paste this every couple of days.

The November elections will be a referendum on bush/cheney. That is the frame, and the framework. The Republicans could not have made a worse choice to win this election than John McCain. And he’s helping by moving TOWARD bush/cheney, not away.

People hate the war. They hate the economics. They hate the arrogance, the secrecy, the power lust. They look at Barack Obama and they see something so fresh and clean and honest and GOOD, and they look at McCain and they see more of the same, on steroids with alzheimers.

There is NO WAY for the Dems to lose this election. And pick up significant seats in both houses. I don’t know how long the Repubs will be out of power, as some like to say generations, but I am confident that President Obama will be setting the agenda for the four years.

And if that is the only good thing to come out of the foul bush/cheney regime, well, so be it. By blowing up the system, they made real change possible…

mikey

…who will make this country socialist and godless in a heartbeat

And the problem with that is…..?

If you think I’m exaggerating … ask yourself what the hell just happened to Bear Stearns. BS is one of the sharks. They fucking bled out over a single fucking weekend. They had a 30 buck share price and a market cap in the fucking billions … and Morgan took them for 2 bucks a share, only on the condition that the feds guarantee 30 billion of their toxic waste.

Oh, that one is easy. They went down cause of government overregulation. Democrats forced them to give credit to people who couldn’t afford it because they are socialist and want everybody to be covered.

Typical Democrat

The muslim freedom fighters are only trying to prove to everyone that they are peaceloving and totally non-violent.

The get very offended when the Western media portrays them as violent savages. So to prove to everyone they are not violent savages they riot and kill westerners. Can you think of a better way to get your point across? I can’t.

We Westerners need to be more sensitive to the totally non-violent freedom fighters who are totally trying to prove they are not violent. They sure showed the Pope good.

Conservatives. hmf.

What is it about wingerism that does not permit them to grasp what actual parody is?

Oh wait.

Is Typical Democrat actually a sentient person parodying a conservative parodying a Democrat? If so, I guess that’s pretty good.

I’m watching Bill Richardson endorse Obama right now ion Portland. On TV, I got a ticket but I’m sick…

Richardson just told how Obama gave him an answer at that debate – stressing how he aint a backstabbing conniving _____.

Once Obama gets out there on the general stump, he’s blow McCloud er, McCain away. Long time to November, just watch.

Oh horseshit you fucking whiner.

While there is much truth in the idea that the two dems have spent much more time beating the shit our of each other than their real opponent and while the media no doubt reflect their desire to see yet another stupid, whack-a-loon rethug in office, don’t forget this.

The economy sucks ass. We’re still mired in a 100 year war (according to dipshit mccain) and said shitforbrains is fine with that. That will cause voters to pause before voting for another republican. Most of the votes have fucked hard enough thank you. Whatever they’re telling pollsters, whatever the pundits those two facts will be the ones that drive people to polls and get them vote dem.

If we could just end this insipid primary race I think that would be clearer.

mccain is toast, it’s just not his time yet.

“We’re Screwed. Thoughts?”

Say it again with a straight face in September, & you won’t even have to offer a penny for mine. In March, that’s hyperbole – not to mention the exact shit-stain “please beat me again honey” attitude that keeps Dems losing elections so amazingly consistently. That knobby column you feel when you reach behind you is called a SPINE – please to be using it more. We in the rest of the world will be very grateful just as soon as you do so. You at LEAST owe us that.

To Herr Gauleiter Ruppert & his “hero” McCain – “he will continue the good work begun by Reagan and continued by the Bushes, who were just awesome” … at pissing away huge surpluses ( & leaving sweet bugger-all to show for it ) & starting illegal & pointless wars? Or perhaps you mean they’re “awesome” at sheltering – & promoting – known pedophiles within their party for years on end. Or “awesome” at treating the US Constitution & Bill Of Rights as toilet-paper? Or perhaps just “awesomely” racking up one record after another for corruption-related resignations & convictions? Yeah, that GOP is some kinda fucking AWESOME alright. Try telling all the grieving relatives of pointlessly slaughtered Iraqis & Americans & Afghans just how AWESOME your “hero” will be with his 100 glorious years of war. Back to the caves with your bloody neo-barbarian AWESOME schtick, you self-righteous “heartland” lizard, & take your “hero” with you – smells like mayhap folks want REALITY now.

Thumbs down on first fake Gary, bu the second Gary is much better, possibly even real. “muslim synthesizer” is great–I think Keith Emerson used to play one of those, or maybe Wakeman.

Also, we want to disband the military. And make red meat illegal. Everyone will be forced to eat tofu and bean sprouts. And forget toilets. Mandatory dirt holes and wiping leaves.

Obama is talking up Bill Richardson big time – like he’s gonna name him for the Veep slot or something. I mean, he’s several minutes into it and he’s still talking up Richardson. Hmmmmm.

Alright, Some Guy. NOW you’ve gone too far.

If it’ll keep me from having to shit outdoors, I’LL vote for McCain…

mikey

Let’s hope Bill Richardson can talk some sense into him about maryjane decriminalization…

Oh, come now, mikey! We’ll allow you a burlap “privacy drap” that you can run around your dirt, so long as it’s adorned with anti-american, anti-freedom, anti-democracy, and anti-male slogans and propaganda! Remember, Allah loves you, so long as you have a vagina and love other women! Death to the Capitalist male pig dogs!

Please keep banning the troll with a thousand faces until it sticks.

It’s had a very long time to post a single thing that was at all amusing, and it failed. Time for it to go.

I was hoping for Edwards for Veep, but Richardson is starting to look like the perfect choice. Foreign policy experience, Western voters, Latino voters, Clinton loyalists . . . He can really help in areas Obama needs a boost. And he seems to be a really good guy.

Okay, okay . . . Richardson for Veep, Edwards for Attorney General.

Apparently Chris Wallace, of all people, just called bullshit on Fox news for running a story about Obama throwing his grandma under the bus. There’s a video posted on our favorite sensitive guy’s site (Americablog), but everytime I try to watch it, IE crashes on my work computer.

Oh, and yes, we are screwed. I’m pretty sure the Democrats will take the White House and pad their control of the House and Senate, but we’re still screwed.

I prefer the term “fucked,” however. Or perhaps “roger dodgered.”

Thumbs down on first fake Gary, bu the second Gary is much better, possibly even real. “muslim synthesizer” is great–I think Keith Emerson used to play one of those, or maybe Wakeman.

Yeah, the ultra-rare “Moog Muslim” synth. I heard Beck used one on “Odelay.”

I’ll agree that we’re screwed in terms of the seemingly insoluble problems this country faces. I’m not sure anyone or any political group can fix the current mess we’re in. We’ll be very lucky to avoid a major Depression and getting out of Iraq is going to be ugly no matter how it’s done. Right now I’m just interested in doing the best we can and not making things exponentially worse, which is what a Rethuglican victory will ensure.

You have to wonder about the psychology of anyone who wants to be president. I know I sure as hell wouldn’t want the job. Supreme ruler? Yeah, I’d take that job, and then some shit would get fixed! (rubs hands together and chortles like Mutley.)

Brad:

I’ll assume your as prescient about McCain winning, as you were about the Patriots winning.

Oh that’s nice – camera just picked out hubbyho for a moment. He’ll be so pleased, he’s such a media whore.

Typical Democrat is the conservative answer to Typical Republican the same way Mallard Fillmore (also known as Straw Man Theater) is the conservative answer to Doonesbury.

Brad, first, as many of the commenters have pointed out already, it’s only March. A whole boatload of shit will go down yet before November. I would not lose heart over this now. Especially when you know that the wingnuts and their fellow travellers in our media (i.e. most of the media) will get much, much nastier than this before the end.

I’m not convinced that this is lost. Lots of people really are pissed at the Republicans.

LA Confidential Pantload

Sadly, yes, I share Brad’s view that we will be enjoying four years of vigorous overseas adventures and financial ruin at home under the leadership of President Straighttalk. I’ve believed for some time that the Democrats could put up Howdy Doody for prez and beat the stuffing out of any Republican; unfortunately, Mr. Doody declined to run.

It’s still early, though – we’ll know that things are back on track when the Totally Impartial Media drops Rev. Wright in favor of Britney/Lindsay/whoever’s latest schizo meltdown.

I still say the Democrats are fucking morons for never having sent out a mailing to every voter, in the form of a mock invoice, showing them their portion of the bill for Georgie’s excellent Iraqi adventure.

At the current time, it’s $1600 per citizen…that’s everyone from a baby born yesterday to the 94 year old who will die tomorrow. Multiply $1600 by the number in your household, and figure out what you might have used that money for, instead of paying Halliburton $3 billion per Iraqi school painted.

Though I suppose with McCain’s “100 years, 1,000 years, 10,000 years” comment, voters could also be asked to multiply the amount they currently owe by a factor of 20, 200, or 2000 to show their share of McCain’s planned expenditures in Iraq.

Typical Republican

Since I get all my information about what Democrats think from Rush Limbaugh, Bill O’Reilly, Ann Coulter and Republican politicians, I know that what Typical Democrat is saying must be what Democrats really think.

I find it much easier to believe people on radio and television who I have never met than to talk to the Democrats in my family and among my friends. It is sad that I must think that my friends and family are evil traitors who want the terrorists to win, but Sean Hannity says that it must be that way.

When I used to try to listen to them, they would ask me for examples of liberal bias in the media. As if I ever listen to anything but conservative talk radio and Fox News! Rush Limbaugh’s opinion on the media is good enough for me! But the liberals are all brain washed by the liberal media.

Liberals. Hmf.

gbear–I keep getting locked-up when I try to get at that Chris Wallace story over at Wonkette. Conspiracy? It would be irresponsible not to speculate otherwise.

Candy–you’ve got my vote.

Jennifer, it’s the small amounts that bug me. $4 for a gallon of milk. $2 for a dozen eggs. $2.50 for a loaf of bread. Last year we were paying almost half that. The food section at the dollar store has expanded.

Susan, it’s worse than you think. Up in MN, the dollar stores are closing because they can’t find merchandise any more.

gbear–I keep getting locked-up when I try to get at that Chris Wallace story over at Wonkette. Conspiracy? It would be irresponsible not to speculate otherwise.

It locked up my Firefox but Safari works okay.

I had trouble viewing it JOHN’s place with Opera.

Try it here.

It’s still early, though – we’ll know that things are back on track when the Totally Impartial Media drops Rev. Wright in favor of Britney/Lindsay/whoever’s latest schizo meltdown.

Maybe someone in the decadent librul hollywood establishment could help us out here – do some drunk driving or panty flashing for a good cause?

It’s typically not terribly difficult to get me to get drunk and take off my pants.

Umm. If you think it’ll help…

mikey

Even better, is one of the S,N! readers a young blond female? And could you mysteriously disappear for a few months?

We’ll alert the media.

MileHI, I’ll make you Chief Lord High Commander of the insurance companies. Do what you will.

“…some drunk driving or panty flashing for a good cause?”

I volunteer Cindy McCain. No it isn’t appropriate, but I went there.

And Cindy McCain has laser eyes! I’m sure of it.

But then, eeewwww

Well – Scarlett Johanson is an Obama supporter….

Double eeewww…

brad, I think, is remembering previous Dem excellent adventures in snatching defeat from the jaws of certain victory. This cycle’s self-inflicted accomplishment is especially grotesque.

Start with proportional primary voting designed to push a consensus candidate to the top. Or one willing to make side deals in secret. But not a strong candidate. Then a schedule that leaves front-runners slowly twisting while the GOP guy runs like he’s already on Air Force 1. All the while, DNC won’t defend Obama against the most racist attacks for fear of playing favorites. (And somehow can’t stop Repubs from voting in Dem primaries just to screw them up).

Finally, I see Hill out there prolonging this for no good reason other than her own ambition. It’s not like she’s Gene McCarthy of RFK; her policies are nearly the same as Obama’s. She and Bill have had their turn on the stage. It’s time to turn the page.

“MileHI, I’ll make you Chief Lord High Commander of the insurance companies. Do what you will.”

Eggcellent! Can I also be head of the DEA so I can disband it?

Speaking of vapid blonde bimbo’s and dollar stores, the local media is all abuzz that Brit-Brit was spotted in Castle Rock shopping at the Outlet Mall.

A very smart guy I know, with a lot of financial markets expertise and experience, is of the opinion that the $2 offer was designed to be rejected by the Bear shareholders. Bear is still trading at around $6 a share. The company isn’t disappearing, it’s not being dismantled, the market has not collapsed. Bear has a bunch of losses in the mortgage industry, so things are not good for the company, but it’s not the end of the world and it doesn’t portend economic disaster for the country.

So the choice *really is* cake or death?
The choice is: (drumroll) Choice, or No Choice. Choose.
God I’m clever.

Tim (the Other One)

“wiping leaves.”

I am so cornering this market !

Brad, I understand being a little worried right now but I think Mikey’s take up above is how things will ultimately turn out so cheer up. You’re heart will be broken this fall by a guy named John. Maine though, not McCain.

And, Joe Max, you’re right about Clinton having a punch you in the gut style but I don’t see much hope of her developing a left hook to replace or at least combine with her right cross.

Dan, you go right ahead and buy in, then.

OMG even Brit has to shop on the cheap! The economy is toast!

Yes, you can be head of the DEA, and my newly created Department of Marijuana Distribution, because, you know, that’s just how I roll.

Hillary’s really pissing me off, I have to admit. I went from having a lot of respect for her to having almost none. There’s a certain group of Hillary supporters who I suspect will stay home if Obama gets the nod, or maybe even vote for McCain out of spite. I got a glimpse of that potential future at the Iowa caucuses. At one side of the auditorium, a huge mass of enthusiastic, young, very diverse Obama supporters . . . on the other side a good sized group of serious people, a mix of old and young but mostly people in their 30s, 40s, and 50s, supporting Edwards. In the back, smaller groups of unhappy Dodd, Kucinich, Biden, and Richardson supporters. And in the middle – grim, even angry women in their 50s and 60s, with the occasional rather unhappy looking husband thrown in for good measure. At our caucus at least, I don’t believe I spotted one young person in the Hillary camp. These people were red-faced angry. You could see that they just couldn’t understand it, how the normally party-insider controlled caucuses had been overtaken by this unruly mob. I think a lot of those people will never vote for Obama. I know I’m generalizing terribly but the whole thing made a pretty powerful impression.

I’ll still vote for Hillary if she gets the nomination, but I won’t just be drunk and holding my nose, I’ll be bawling as well.

So will Brit finally have to resign now, or will she ride this out like the other scandals?

Well, this typical white person thinks Obama should drop out for the good of the party, as this poll suggests.

Did you see South Park last night?

I am optimistic. I think the GOP is getting set up for a big fall. Let them think they are likely to win, and then when Obama wins, they will be devastated, wandering the wilderness for at least a generation. We have experienced this kind of disappointment alot recently and it’s their turn now. Let Rush think his “chaos” strategery will work. Already, large swaths of the GOP have soured on their religious wacko base. And much of the GOP hates McCain. We already know thay are going to have to hold their noses anyway. If the Dem Party can actually grab victory from the jaws of defeat it will be huge, and probably irreversible. This is more than an election if we win – it is a counter-revolution.

Steady people. Long way to go.

Did you see South Park last night?

No but I Tivo’d it. Did they address the Wright thing and is their take going to piss me off or just make me laugh?

So who here is offended by the phrase “typical white person” coming out of Obama’s mouth? They’re all over it at Powerline, the Corner, etc. I suggest we white folks join hands and sing “We Shall Overcome”. We”ll get through this if we just stick together.

actor —

I don’t see Hill’s nomination serving the “good of the party.”

She’s got the highest negatives of any serious candidate. The one motivator to get those GOPers down to the polls is the chance to vote against Hillary. Also, there are tons of secret papers from her WH years yet to see light of day. So far, her schedules don’t indicate any real president-type experience.

And what’s with her longstanding membership in the secretive, right-wing religious group The Fellowship?

One more thing. The identity politics problem is 100% driven by the MSM. Every single time they talk about the “horserace” they break it down demographically. “Is Obama in trouble with older white women? Will Obama get the Hispanic vote? What about working-class whites?” etc etc ad nauseum. At some point that narrative will become over-saturated. We need to hammer the MSM relentlessly about the issues. We can do it. Persistence is the key.

The Brittany episode I saw last night. Ohhh, did I laugh when she.. well… you’ll know when.

O/T Via the wonderful World-O-Crap

If only.

This is the March Madness thread right? No?

Damn you anyway, Western Kentucky.

Um, apolcalypse it would spelled be right.

That said, I’m really looking forward to actual Obama/McCain debates.

Me too. I’m hoping for some Angry Old Man moments.
I picture Captain Queeq from the Caine Mutiny.

Yes, Legalize–there are no doubt many, many in Des Moines who share those same thoughts. And at least one in Colorado…

I finally got to watch that Chris Wallace tape. Is there anyway we can make that Gretchin on Fox and Friends disappear? Please. God, she’s like fingernails on a chalk board. Worse than Dana Perino…

god i still didn’t spell that a word right. I give up. Oh, well, time to shower and get ready to go out to eat a big ‘ol bunch of Indian food. Chicken Curry, here I come.

South Park was about Britney.

Milehi, what the hell is Brit even doing on the front range?
I’m a mile+500fthawkeye on the western slope and of course the front range sucks. /s
Candy’ i’ve been reading you’re comments for a long time now and I like you! Can I have a role in your ruling elite?

Innocent Bystander

Mikey sez- “I don’t know how long the Repubs will be out of power, as some like to say generations, but I am confident that President Obama will be setting the agenda for the four years.”

Oh, I think Mikey it’s going to be a looooooong time. Why? Cuz’ when we retool the WH and DOJ, working in concert with the House and Senate majorities, there’s going to be real investigations done…..we’ll be lining them up and mowing them down. The mistake in ’92 Clinton made was to let the bastards off…not this time. By the time 2010 rolls around, the American people are going to know the true extent of the treasonous crimes and war profiteering that the Organized Crime Party (nee GOP) was up to over the past 30 years or so.

There’s a reason why the Bush clan picked a South American country with no extradition treaties. They’ll need that 90,000 acres to house the rest of the Republicans and media whores who have been party to the rape and trashing of this country.

I’m not worried about 2008…..I don’t put much stock in primary polling, everyone is jockeying to make their candidate the only possible winner. Once we settle on the candidate, the choice will be an obvious no-brainer.

Duros Hussein 62

I thought some months ago that Obama was un-vetted and there’s no telling what’s lurking in the skeleton closet. So now we know, and it’s news. And it’s going to make it a lot harder for Obama in the general.

I call bullshit. That’s all you got? Nothing like guild by association, huh?

FelixMoronia–

She’s visiting with some lawyers if the Republican Mountain News is to believed.

You in the Junction, Carbondale, Rifle?

I’m on it.

*guilt* by association.

If we lie as well as Republicans, it’d be great. We could say that McCain plans to bring back the draft.

[…] The fine folks at Sadly, No! concur with me unconditionally, clearly. […]

Only a typical white person would be offended by the phrase “typical white person.”

Doubt you’ll find many of those around here.

“Only a typical white person would be offended by the phrase ‘typical white person.'”

I’m translucent, damn it.

Damn… that formatted so nicely in comment preview!

I’ve been so down with politics lately , Billary has destroyed my belief in a united Democratic Party , a restored America and much of my hope for the fall . I cannot vote for Clinton if she’s the pick (like it matters in Idaho) with her working for the RePIGs during this Primary season by building up John McCrazy while tearing down Obama . Playing the race card is just the latest indictment in her list of dirty tricks . Damn you fetid and foolish Clintons , JUST GO AWAY !

here’s to a good year 4 tomatoes and peppers anyway , , ,

It’s weird to me how both parties have started ripping themselves apart.

The Republicans scrambled to destroy Huckabee, and now the Democrats are tearing each other to pieces, with Obama supporters and Hillary supporters in all out war over… what?

They aren’t that different. They especially aren’t so different that McCain would make a better second choice for President then the Democratic candidate you don’t support.

I’m going the charitable route and saying that “Gary Ruppert” is really a liberal just pretending to be a complete right wing moron. The alternative interpretation need not be stated.

Gary, I fixed your comment:

We don’t need any hard left woman’s libbers or black nationalists who are Islamic to ruin our nation. We need steady leadership and Ol’ Straight Talk to ruin our nation.

One thing being left out of the discussion here and that is money. FEC report for feb on amounts taken in, Mccain 11 million, Obama over 55 million.
Money talks and especially in national elections.

Brad, you’re such a downer.

Can we all just stfu and stablish the calfate now?
