What would count as a more respectable source? The actual texts of Comintern Central Committee output from 1934 is not quite web accessible yet.

Perhaps I could quote from one Jonah Goldberg, writing for the National Review but posted by the Center for American Cultural Renewal, who is convinced that this only strengthens his point:

In this case, Wikipedia is right on target. The use of the term “social fascist” by Communists during the so-called Third Period really is common knowledge.

But if you want other sources, here is an old historical article about the term “social fascism.” And here is a recent attempt to revive the concept (courtesy of a Stalinist website…now there’s something you don’t see every day!). And here‘s Stalin’s own “Concerning the International Situation” (1924), in which the Man o’ Steel writes:

“Social-Democracy objectively represents the moderate wing of Fascism.”

Cribbing off of Stalin might, at first, appear embarrassing to teh Pantload. But, in fact, it is central to his point.

Im in Northern Virginia. MS-13 country. Nice machete-hand incident pretty regularly. The problem is the damned cost of living here. If it were not so damned high I would be golden. One bedroom apartments start at about 1100 a month, and thats those shitty places where you have to have 2000 people living with you not working. I tried, believe me.

Well, I did the whole college thing for a few years, just could not afford it. Even with financial aid I was paying almost 6-700 dollars per quarter. State tuition is going through the roof so it was no better. If I had my way I would be doing something involving programming but I would really just be happy sitting working on computers (as in technician, A+ stuff) if I could actually make a living from it.

Well, I live in what’s called the Westside, in Los Angeles county. Even though I don’t actually live in the city of LA it’s pricey.

I work in a fucked up business. You could call it the Event Business, or Show Business, or Entertainment, and I’ve been in it for many years in many capacities, but right now I work in the capacity of managing a venue that people want to present their Event in.

Event venue management is somewhat related to Real Estate. It sure as hell is interesting.

Actually, to be accurate, the Westside of LA is the most expensive living areas, whether its incorporated into the city of LA or not.

I work in a small beach city that is really expensive to live in. I live in an unincorporated rural area of LA county.

I would love to live in a world where skin color, religion, cultural heritage, sex, national origin, sexual orientation and all the rest didn’t matter, and every person was judged solely on the basis of his or her actions and character. Never going to happen. Humans congregate and aggregate on the basis of those categories, and as long as there are differences within the categories, there will be people who think those differences are what’s important about people, and that only those who have stars on their bellies are worthy of the name “Sneetch.”

If we were designing a society from scratch, where everybody was starting from a place of equal opportunity, then maybe it would be possible for that social construct to be completely blind to all of those category distinctions. That doesn’t mean people wouldn’t eventually separate themselves according to differences, real or perceived; but it might at least be possible to create a body of laws and customs and traditions that would ignore the differences at the beginning.

But we’re not doing that. We (at least some people) are trying to repair a tragically broken society whose history was filled with — at some points totally characterized by — invidious discrimination against vast segments of the population on the basis of their skin color, their sex, their point of origin, etc., etc. And you can’t do that by saying “Wow, I sure am glad that’s over. Please pass the sweet potatoes.”

Not to mention the fact that there is still a boatload of racial and other forms of discrimination and prejudice at large in our society. So the problems of the past are not in the past; they are still with us. I suppose that aspect of the problem could be eliminated if we all woke up tomorrow and said “Hey, remember that race stuff? Man, what were we thinking?” But that would still leave massive gouges in the social landscape, lingering inequities that require some redress. How does your “we’re all color-blind” utopia address that?

I sure do not. If I did not love the east coast so much I would probably head for greener pastures. Not that there is anything stopping me, just no real reason to either. Cheap ass tuition rates would be nice like CA has but then again the Terminator seems to be making some big ass cuts from what I hear, I wonder how long it will be until Higher Education feels the whip. Unless by education cuts they mean college to.

Not to mention, what does it matter. I would be that weird older guy with a bunch of 18 year olds who want me to buy them beer. Here, the cheap place is WV, but they have realized it and have started raising prices accordingly, the bastards.

I came into it from the event side of things – I worked for the shows, and now I process the rental contracts. But, equally, someone could come from the other direction. It can be fun, and creative, and you are dealing with commercial customers for a short-term gig, instead of dealing with people’s primary assets, like their homes.

I just think that the sooner we accept each other the sooner we can get somewhat past it. As long as we accept racism as a major issue (even when it is not in a lot of cases, not all mind you) or overblow racism we just inflate the problem even more so. If we make the fact that Obama is black an issue for example, it does nothing but point out racism rather than overcome it. It should not matter.

I took classes in college at the age of 50 and 51 (and plan to take more). I loved it.

Sit at the front of the room and make eye contact with the teacher/professor/lecturer and listen to what he/she has to say. If you talk to the kids, talk about the content of the class. What the fuck do you think you’re paying for, anyway? What the teacher has to say, or buying beers for freshmen?

Well, to be fair I guess in comparison I am not that much older than them, only 10 years or so but I have this overwhelming urge to get it done, and working, surviving etc I cannot take a full course load, which just compounds the problem. I just have to figure out a way to finish, and cheaper than I have paid. The upperhand is the damn loans go back into deferment.

Holy hell, I would rather take a spork straight to the eyeball than deal with databases. I can just remember my relational database class… I aced it, but that is just my way, sheer determination. It was worse than watching paint dry.

Computerized parking control systems. Sounds fucked up, but, man, we bought their product and worked with their trainers, and I was impressed. The shit is very complicated and they need serious trainers to work with their new customers. And – hell – you become a parking systems expert, you got a job any fucking where in the US.

I bet there would be jobs with Sentry, but also with whoever buys Skidata systems, too.

I work for a City government that has some 12 or so parking structures that uses
Skidata stuff. You can’t beat public employers for benefits and retirement.

My young friend ZK is still in what is probably now called a “vegetative state” after his heart attack while running on the track at his high school. It’s been since early November. His parents are caring for him at home now – since he is only 16, of course they have the right to decide his care.
