Silver Apples Of Teh Yule
While we’re waiting for Brad to give out with his Christmas thing (and for me to give out with the Christmas in the City ’07 pix), how about some Techno (so-called) that was recorded in 1968?
Yes, really. This is one of my favorite things to spring on people. (If you’ve already heard it, please skip to #2):
Above: Silver Apples – ‘Oscillations’ (2:44)
Below: They started doing this in 1972 (this vid is from 1978):
Above: Suicide – ‘Ghost Rider’ (2:21)
Well, I hope it isn’t too late to say Merry Christmas! …istmas! …istmas!
I’m no good around here; I’m just the comedy relief, most times.
Okay, wait. I’m useless; it’s proven. Here’s a Christmas song:
Above: Alvin and the Chipmunks – ‘Chipmunk Song’ (at normal speed, without sped-up vocals) (2:24)
Brings back hazy memories of a long ago discovery of the same phenomenon… during an investigation of the theory that the corner squares of a blotter sheet soak up the most.
Well, I think you know what I’m saying, yes.
I really kinda like that “Suicide” song. Did Talking Heads steal their schtick from them, I wonder? Also vaguely reminiscent of Lou Reed, to me at least.
Well its nice to see something other than gbear and Felix discussing their experiances at Best Buy.
Bill Withers anyone-

hmm
“me i want a hooooooooola hoooooooooop”
there are advantages to the helium version, it’s over sooner.
dammit why won’t it allow my Bill Withers video link?

I love the Suicide. I like them best when the Farfisa is kind of working, like the first album.
Nice to see that video of the original Ghost Rider. For those able to put up with the video, someone made one to Henry Rollins’ remake here.
Do they?

Hoppy Holidays.
Okay, this is getting a bit annoying, do you really want to see this video?
How about this one-
Wait, the thing won’t let me post 12 links, did yo see this-
Whoa! Silver Apples! I loved those guys (especially when chemically enhanced, as they were – check out their pupils on the cover of their second album…)
One guy on drums and one guy on a pile of synth gear.
Simeon did some gigs in NYC not too many years ago. I heard one recording of a performance around 2001.
Oooohh, Silver Apples (of the moon, if I recollect, not Yule). Until quite recently, I had their debut album. Wondered if that was who was meant when I saw rhe header. And, saw them at the Eagles Auditorium in Seattle in ’68, on the same bill as (wait for it…) Muddy Waters! All time oddest double bill ever? Probably not, but close.
OT rant: Guitar Hero III’s Slash boss fight is a load of bullshit and chips. The trick is to save your fuckers (power-ups that screw up the other player) and wait until the end when he does his lame-ass cheating move, then fucking wail on his ass. Get a haircut, hippie.
That is pretty frickin cool. I could roll to that.
The planet that I live on is closer to the one of the Silver Apples than the one that SomeGuy’s game is on. That is all.

Some Guy, the strategy I use is to save up my power-ups until I see the boss about to complete a power-up phrase and then hit him so that he can’t complete the phrase. I haven’t lost a battle once since employing this strategy.
Anyways…the real question is why you aren’t playing Rock Band instead? It makes Guitar Hero III look silly by comparison. I haven’t picked up GH III since I got Rock Band last month.
My band’s name?
Vorpal Chörd
Extra points to those who get the reference…
The fact is, this is proof that liberal degenerate art has deep roots. There is something inherently fascist about all of it, but not fascism as we traditionally know it.
The fact is, Gary, fascists are inherently drawn, so to speak, to entartete Kunst; the Nazis were keen to display it openly so that all might be exposed to it.
Loving the Silver Apples, Gavin, thanks for the introduction.
Wow, you guys are up on the Silver Apples. Color me impressed. I sold my copy of that album in an auction to benefit Katrina victims; about a year and a half later, I stumbled upon a nice clean copy for cheap. Ah, kizmet….
Pee in my pants funny!
Jayzus Aitch, I wandered over here to read about the Pantload debacle, didn’t know you guys had the best musical taste going. I mean, I love Crooks and Liars but c’mon…
Hadn’t heard of the Silver Apples before. Sounds a fair bit like Add N to (X).
