Stuff that’s actually important

Jim Webb is my homeboy:

Matt Stoller has compiled a useful list of Senators that need called in order to get critical support for Webb’s troop rotation amendment. If you have some time this morning, be sure to give ’em a call and tell them you’ll totally beat their sorry butt if they don’t vote the right way:

Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska)
DC: 202-224-6665
Anchorage: 907-271-3735

George Voinovich (R-Ohio)
DC: (202) 224-3353
Cleveland: (216) 522-7095

Elizabeth Dole (R-North Carolina)
DC: 202-224-6342
Raleigh: 866-420-6083

John Warner (R-Virginia)
DC: (202) 224-2023
Roanoke: (540) 857-2676

Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky)
DC: 202-224-2541
Louisville: 502-82-6304

Arlen Specter (R-Pennsylvania)
DC: 202-224-4254
Harrisburg: (717) 782-3951

I think McConnell’s a hopeless loser, but Voinovich and Snarlin’ Arlen can probably be persuaded with a few well-placed calls. Go, my flying monkeys, go!

After the recent avalanche of fucking world class snark, you dudes could post about the history of algebra and I’d lap it up.

Be sure to call about the restoration of habeus corpus as well. Calling Chuck Grassley right now. You might want to add him to your list, Brad. He’s a Republican who is occasionally capable of being swayed.

Sen. Charles Grassley
Phone: (202) 224-3744

Damn right

From People for the American Way:

The Senate is likely to vote on restoration of Habeas Corpus TOMORROW! (9/19/20)

Call your senators NOW and tell them to vote YES on the Habeas Corpus Restoration Act — Amendment 2022 to the Department of Defense authorization bill (S. 1585).

A useful list of amendments to the Defense Authorization Bill, including Webb’s, appears here.

Hey Now!!!!!

========================

Presidential signing statements

========================

Sens. Specter (R-PA) & Kerry (D-MA) submitted amendment No. 2021 stating that Congress hereby exercises its power to forbid judicial reliance on presidential signing statements as a source of authority in the interpretation of acts of Congress.

That shit’s got some teeth!

Thanks Candy! Great link.

Fellow Virginian Warner is staging an end-run around Webb.

I could use a Brooks vs. Sumner moment right about now. Yes, I know violence is bad, m’kay, but honor must be upheld. If they can’t restore Habeas, they can at least restore the tradition of Senate floor beatdowns.
