Our national dumbness
For someone who actually spent several years living in France, Mitt Romney is remarkably ignorant about the country if he really thinks Hillary Clinton is running on a platform that’s too left-wing to win an election there. He also called her a Marxist, demonstrating once again that Romney’s key strategy to winning the GOP nomination despite his moderate pre-campaign political profile is to say a lot of crazily dumb stuff.
The thing is, Romney’s neither crazy nor dumb. He’s definitely a sleazy opportunist, but he’s not a stupid lunatic like, say, George W. Bush. Just trust me: I watched him in action for four years here in Massachusetts.
So when Romney says a bunch of crazy dumb stuff, he knows exactly what he’s doing and whom he’s trying to appeal to. The question is, why the hell does it work? Do we have that many paranoid and ignorant white people in this country?
Gavin adds: I dunno, let’s make an estimate.

That leaves a lot out, but my math says we’re already up to about 50 million.
Sadly, yes.
I guess he doesn’t want the cajun vote.
Hillary Clinton is running on a platform that’s too left-wing to win an election there
Hey, Mitt? Know what?
Those people in Europe (and most of the rest of the world, fort that matter)? They actually have SOCIALIST political parties! And they treat them just like any other political party! They get representatives elected and everything!
Wild, I know, but it’s perfectly true!
The reason the pandering stupidity works is because too many people still trust teevee and radio(and to a lesser degree newspapers and mags like Time)to tell them the truth. I think there is still this almost subconcious notion that if you’re on”the news”you aren’t allowed to lie. Obviously there are some stupid people(my guess is it’s more stubborn than stupid, who likes to be proven wrong?),but I think alot of people simply don’t know WTF is going on and so they look for simple, quick answers which wingnut teevee and radio provides.
Alot of people are struggling that vote against their own best interests. It doesn’t make them dumb necessarily, just incredibly, crazily busy.
Of course stupid enters into it,and god knows there’s enough to go around a few times. I just think you can’t say all of America is stupid and lazy and that’s the whole problem.
Mitt reminds me of a kid who tries too hard to be popular and is trying to buy friends.
Brad, have you been to the mall lately?
Yes.
But it’s also important to note how proud of that paranoia and ignorance many of those people are.
Of course stupid enters into it,and god knows there’s enough to go around a few times. I just think you can’t say all of America is stupid and lazy and that’s the whole problem.
I agree, angryoldbroad. A freind of mine said it best I think- “Lord knows we Americans can be pretty dumb. But I don’t think we are exactly stupid.”
What stands out to me in conversations with people is not so much stupidity, as a strange kind of rigid view of the world. Certain emotional ideas, like a deep-seated hatred of Muslims, which are used as explanations for why we must make war on the Middle East. Also, just like you said, an inability or a refusal to question what is on TV.
Certain emotional ideas, like a deep-seated hatred of Muslims
Deep-seated is not how I would think of it.
“Do we have that many paranoid and ignorant white people in this country?”
Forget the Mall, ever been to a State or County Fair?
OK- hysterical, terrified hatred of Muslims?
And that hysterical, terrified hatred of Muslims came from where? Teevee and radio, imo, has alot to do with it.Yes,America has not even come close to dealing with it’s own foundations of genocide, racism and slavery, but tv and radio has not done a blessed thing to educate people so they can leave that shit behind and move forward.
Wait, the Mittster lived in France? Wasn’t he the one spreading the fake story about how marriage in France had been replaced by 7-year contracts?
Yes, we do. Haven’t you noticed?
I have a friend who sat next to a returning Morman missionary on a flight from France back to the US. My friend learned that the missionary never got to Paris in a whole year of living in France. He never saw any tourist stuff at all. He lived in a little town and did his missionary work six day a week and rested on the seventh. And his work didn’t involve any interaction with actual French people. He could have stayed in Salt Lake City for all the cultural experiences he had. So just because Mitt did his mission in France doesn’t mean he knows anything about the place at all.
These people might dispute Romney’s claim of Clinton being le monde of the French Marxist Left. Considering they are, you know, French Marxists.
The money shot from the article:
Lessee……according to this, in France they actually have, on occasion, open and registered Communists serving in governmental posts, and the citizenry ELECTS enough Communists to their version of Congress for them to form a fucking voting bloc. Which means that, in order to achieve a parliamentary equivalent of “bipartisanship”, Communist views must be taken into consideration in a (more-or-less) respectful fashion.
We need to coin a term to describe the phenomenon going on here, because Romney’s not the only guy who does this. This has been going on for a long time, this conflating of liberal views with left views, and it serves to shift the balance of power in our national political dialogue to the right. If we don’t start deliberately, consciously fighting it, it will never stop.
I’ve been using “political redshift” for a while now, and I’d like to see it, or something like it, come into more common usage. By coming up with a common term to describe what different people/groups are doing in different ways, we can help people to start to see the commonality of the behavior. Maybe then we can start to change it.
Yes. Remember how Carey Roberts describes her as a Marxist feminist? If you don’t actually understand Marxism, feminism, or Hilary Clinton, and just know that you don’t like those things, you’re ready to believe someone coming along saying bad things about them.
And that hysterical, terrified hatred of Muslims came from where?
Oh, it came from the same place that hysterical, terrified hatred of Vietnamese/Chinese/Russian/Japanese/German/Irish/Yankee/Southern/Black/Canadian/Sioux/Apache/Iriquois came from. It’s just wearing a Muslim costume this year.
“Do we have that many paranoid and ignorant white people in this country?”
Have you read LGF and/or Dan Riehl’s site lately?
I guess he doesn’t want the cajun vote.
You know merlallen, that’s kind of interesting. Do cajuns really feel connected to the French? Did they get mad when Rumsfeld called France an irrelevant part of Old Europe, or whatever he said exactly?
Do we have that many paranoid and ignorant white people in this country?
Sadly, Yes!
And they call it patriotism. And Christianity.
Good God, y’all!
When they call someone “Feminist”, “Marxist”, “Elitist” etc. it doesn’t even mean anything anymore. They’re like trigger words, like Pavlov’s dogs. No need to think about it, or understand or anything. Just get mad at the designated bad thoughts and know that you are morally superior.
When I lived in Paris back in the last century (just a bit after Mitt) the CGT (more or less equivalent to our AFofL-CIO) was an admittedly Marxist/Communist organization. Probably not as much today, probably not as strong now as then, but there is quite a tradition, at least, of socialist/communist respectability. Hell, one of the daily national newspapers (Le Canard Enchâine) was published by the Party. Sadly, those days may be gone.
That leaves a lot out, but my math says we’re already up to about 50 million.
Hell, just use the vote tally from American Idle.
Well, I stand somewhat corrected, Le Canard stopped being Commie-connected in the ’20s, per Wikipedia. Still quite left though. (Research first, post later. Research first, post later, damn it!!)
There’s also American exceptionalism, which often seems to be the only thing people take from all their history/social studies/civics classes. And there’s certainly never anything in the RW media & MSM to de-bunk it. I’m sure that if one broached the subject to the average mall-goer, they wouldn’t have the slightest idea what it meant, but once explained to them the response would be someting along the lines of: “Yeah, that’s right, we are special, what’s wrong with thinking that, what’s the matter with you, punk, why do you hate America?” etc., etc., ad nauseum.
There’s definitely a serious strain of ignorance, stupidity, & general dumbness, reinforced by a petulant pride in one’s ignorance, stupidity & dumbness. The use of the definite article in the phrase “The Good Book” (you know, the bible) implies that all other books are double-plus not-good.
The American people are like a dog that’s spent its whole life being kicked, beaten and starved. They are innundated daily with militarism, tribal hatred, fear, ignorance-as-a-value, racism, anger, agression and perhaps the most virulent form of xenophobia in the history of the planet.
It’s why Bill Maher was fired for stating a harmless and obvious truth after 9/11. It’s why 4 years on we are still struggling with that glimpse of Janet Jackson’s nipple. It’s why people so enjoy the increasingly mean-spirited and angry stylings of the likes of Howard Stern and Don Imus.
I could go on and on. But you get the point. It’s why I think things are already past the tipping point. The indoctrination is so complete, when the chickens really come home to roost and America is facing a real existential crisis, the politicians will try to get the people to recognize what’s happening and change their belief structures and the people won’t do it. They will continue to vote against their own self-interest and survival right up the collapse of the nation. And even then they won’t understand what happened…
mikey
Well, yeah, there’s a fair amount of stupid around these parts, and the usual suspects upthread are all complicit. Of more concern to me at the moment, though, is the absolute weenitude of the Dems in Congress in response to the predictable pattern of crazy-dumb-GOP-claims and gullible public acceptance of same: they cave. Case in point: the WH keeps blathering about its absolute right to negate congressional oversight via executive privilege and congressional dems respond by saying “Oh, OK, well, how about if they just testify in private and could you maybe give us some of the documents we requested?” Never mind that they all know (or should know) that the WH is blowing smoke.
On the other hand, there’s this (from today’s NYT):
Congress has another route to enforce its will, an inherent power of contempt. But that has not been used since early in the 20th century. It has long been deemed unwieldy in the modern era as it entails Congress stopping all work to hold its own trial and imprisoning any offenders in the basement of the Capitol. (my emphasis)
That would be interesting.
The thing that makes Romney’s position so completely insane is that France elects Communists to Parliament.
Here’s a tough trivia quiz: name all the members of the Communist party elected to the American Congress. No fair Googling.
Actually, it’s not really that tough a quiz. The answer is “nobody”. It’s never happened. We’ve elected precisely two Socialists. No Communists. Ever. And we never will.
And I really have to add……the idea of being “too liberal for [some leftist group, whether it is “France” or what have you]” absolutely makes my teeth ache from its complete stupidity. Being “too liberal for the Left” is like being “too Catholic to eat pork”. It’s totally incoherent. It makes no fucking sense whatsoever. The Left loathes liberals.
Okay, lefties don’t really “loathe” liberals – I was just going for the alliteration there. But you get the point. I’m telling you, if we don’t fix this disconnect in the American political dialogue, things will never get any better.
Do we have that many paranoid and ignorant white people in this country?
Dude. I live in fucking SW Missouri. We probably have that many paranoid and ignorant white people on my street.
M. Bouffant: Don’t cry any tears for the French left quite yet. Sarkozy won against the increasingly triangulating ‘new Socialist’ Royal, and the genuine left made a better showing in this election than the last. There’s no reason to believe that the French are drifting right, any more than 1994 or 1980 reflected genuine shifts to conservatism in the American electorate.
Sarkozy came into power due to massive “vote against”, disgusted voters abandoning the Blarite Socialists, and an aging core of racist motherfuckers for whom the current race issues in France bring up angry memories of Algeria.
Jillian: ’ve been using “political redshift” for a while now, and I’d like to see it, or something like it, come into more common usage.
Its a bit technowonky but I see more and more people mentioning Overton Window. Will that do?
It sorta does it, but I think we need to be more specific. Political redshift is a type of Overton Window, much like Fabianism or Fourierism would be types of Socialism.
It’s important to be specific here, I think. They’ve been doing this for so long that unless we take good steps to make it explicit, it’ll go on being invisible.
You know merlallen, that’s kind of interesting. Do cajuns really feel connected to the French? Did they get mad when Rumsfeld called France an irrelevant part of Old Europe, or whatever he said exactly?
Fair warning, my experience with Cajuns has been fairly limited and generally involved massive amounts of alcohol, but the impression I got was that Cajuns still haven’t forgiven the French for leaving Louisiana in the first place. Or that’s what Justin Wilson said, anyway.
Ok, the discussion is interesting, and no doubt has academic value. But help me out here. What is the pragmatic, realpolitik, real-world value of deciding on the proper name for a set of beliefs. It is, after all, the beliefs themselves, as constructed by the individual, that are either the problem or the solution. So while being able to discuss the various belief systems and the resulting prescriptive policies is valuable, I honestly don’t see how classifying those systems and structures advances any important causes.
And I think most of us are in agreement that we’re confronting some important causes. We need to talk to the people who’s beliefs are driving, or are driven by, the criminals in office today. We’ve got to find a way to make people understand that it’s THEIR freedoms, THEIR liberty, THEIR future and the future of their families that are at stake here. We must find a way to turn the dialog from a tribal “protecting us against them to a positive public policy. We have to make people understand that the economy is unsustainable, the military is not a solution to every foreign policy challenge, and imperial dominance will not protect us, but rather will destroy us.
And if we’re arguing over what to call this bunch or that bunch, while we may find it interesting and academically rewarding, I’m not sure I see the point…
mikey
Can’t we just have Donahue beat up Rush Limbaugh?
Well, my hope is that, as more “it-getters” learn about the Overton Window that the handy buzzwordy phrase will pop out as a natural consequence of the conversation. I like “political redshift” a lot, but even that presupposes a certain knowlege of astronomy for the metaphor to work (not really the stuff of popular memes, IOW).
For me, the Overton Window model offered a handy theoretical hook that helped explain everything from why the Rights’ underwriters pay for Coulter and d’Souza instead of policy wonks, to why the Left has lost ground by treating its more extreme elements like a an embarrassing drunk uncle.
It would be much more personally satisfying if we had ME beat up Rush.
Just sayin…
mikey
I mean, you can’t sell people shit sandwiches just by putting them in pretty packaging.
I guess you can. For seven years, millions of Americans have been scarfing Whitehouse grilled turd burgers.
mikey: And if we’re arguing over what to call this bunch or that bunch, while we may find it interesting and academically rewarding, I’m not sure I see the point…
As a practical matter, you can use the Overton Window as evidence to convince nervous Sensible Liberals why they should, for example, give Jillian her own cable news show. Understanding how the landscape of the debate has been purposefully shifted to the right (and a practical means for shifting it back) is the point.
Mikey, that would make me happy, too.
Meanwhile…
I think I can come up with a compromise.
Stephen Colbert gets to beat Rush up, and you get to shoot him, Rush, in the head afterwards, when he’s trying to sneak up on Colbert from behind.
Off topic-
So I made facebook profiles for Ann Althouse and Debbie Schlussel so they could join the group, and there’s a possible overlap.
Debbie went to a University of Wisconsin for law school. She’s not clear which, oddly, considering her bio goes so far as to mention she was a friggin national merit finalist. And Debbie is probably too old to have been around for Ann, but it’d really answer the question of what kind of students Ann is turning out, wouldn’t it.
Debbie is now a member of the CAIR group, and Ann is in with Feministe.
Heehee.
According to the State Bar of Wisconsin, there are two law schools in the state: UW-Madison and Marquette.
but he’s not a stupid lunatic like, say, George W. Bush.
he knows exactly what he’s doing and whom he’s trying to appeal to.
Show me the way to go home
I’m tired and I want to go to bed
I had a little drink about an hour ago
And it went right to my head
Where ever I may roam
On land or sea or foam
You will always hear me singing this song
Show me the way to go home
Too lazy to make more spam email addys to make more fake wingnut profiles, but c’mon people.
We need a Dan Riehl and a Jonah and a Swank and a Pam and a…….
There should be many sub-Althouses.
Ann Althouse’s left breast, Ann Althouse’s right breast, Ann Althouse’s navel (subject of much gazing) and so forth.
We need to coin a term to describe the phenomenon going on here, because Romney’s not the only guy who does this. This has been going on for a long time, this conflating of liberal views with left views,
Yeah, but liberals do it, and you can’t make them understand the difference between liberalism and the left.
As a matter of fact, if they are the tribal sort of liberal whose political ideology is centered around opposing what Republicans want and sitting donkeys in the seats of congress no matter what kind of idiot they are they are going to be pissed at you for even trying to make the distinction. Everyone who isn’t a conservative Republican is a liberal Democrat and that’s all you need to know and if you say anything else about the subject you must secretly be in column B.
I made a Pam profile.
The random security text was jews o’sullivan.
I laughed.
Yeah, but liberals do it, and you can’t make them understand the difference between liberalism and the left.
I sometimes conflate the two positions (liberal and leftist), but I have a bit more awareness than most that I am doing it. I think I have that tendency because, from a realpolitik standpoint, this country has only two parties, and only one of them has any elements of ‘leftist’ thought at all. So I go with that one.
Pam is now a member of Muslims for Communism, until they notice and kick her out.
It’s much worse than that Mr. Marshall.
If you’re to the left of the Bushies, you’re clearly and objectively a Stalinist. The reason this issue of semantics matters is that our political discourse has been consciously corroded in a way that makes Tail-gunner Joe green with more than just decay.
Recently, Cal Thomas actually editorialized that if Hillary is elected, the US will become like Stalinist Russia. I know, he’s a fucktard, but a recent comment by my uncle exemplified the problem with “Our national dumbness”. I explained at length the value of universal health care (good for business, make the nation strong, etc.), and his only responce was, “But wouldn’t that be SOCIALISM!”. I asked what he meant, and all he could say was, “But I thought socialism was bad”. He really doesn’t have a clue what socialism is–but he knows it’s bad.
We are truly fucked as a nation.
I just sent Pam a friendship offer. Then I got curious, and punched Tacky’s real name into the system. Turns out he has a real Facebook account. I decided not to go there – stalkers are bad for sammiches.
But then I looked at his “friends” list.
Among them was “Rob Bluey”
This “Rob Bluey:” http://tbogg.blogspot.com/2007/07/bitches-got-it-coming-wingnut-welfare.html
So I couldn’t help myself, and I sent him a little note:
“Rob – Yer a dick.
You should enlist in the Army.”
I want to make it very clear right here and right now: Lou Dobbs is the biggest, xenophobic, authoritarian, walking, talking human stain and journalistic hack I’ve ever seen.
I was in The Bell, trying to enjoy a delicious chicken supreme chalupa, and this turd-wad is doing a boohoo wah-wah story on those poor Boarder Patrol agents who shot the drug dealer a year back.
Never mind that these embarrassments to the country shot an unarmed suspect, then lied about it and covered it up for a month. Oh no. They were defenseless victims of over zealous prosecution, and besides, the drug dealer was a drug dealer and he got off SCOTT FREE!! Just for being shot!
And he had the DOJ prosecutor on his show, and was doing this infuriatingly ass-hatery body language thing, with stroking his chin and cocking his head to the side and basically pretending he was fucking Matlock.
Then he blamed the prosecutor for charging the Boarder guard with some firearms violation that has a 10-year mandatory minimum! Let’s ignore the fact that these guys actually did something illegal and stupid and lied about it; oh no, the injustice is that they got CHARGED for it. Like it’s somehow the prosecutor’s fault that there are mandatory minimums for this.
Judges dont’ like mandatory minimums. Prosecutors don’t like mandatory minimums. Hell, i bet most law enforcement don’t like them. The only people who DO like them are the terrified sheep who think that being in favor of them makes them tough on crime, or something. Let’s not actually SOLVE the problem, let’s just throw money and man power at punishing people.
Goddamn. So much hate for Lou Dobbs. Ass.
Or, to paraphrase what someone else here said so well, “I used to think that the pundits used to be talking over my head, that they knew more about it then I do. Now I realize they’re just morons.”
The only people who DO like them are the terrified sheep who think that being in favor of them makes them tough on crime, or something.
These same pee-ple think Scooter shouldn’t go to iail. Because he’s a white guy who hangs with Broder, apparently.
Why let that stop you, Sammich?
Both Pam and Ann have real facebook profiles.
I’m debating whether to request to be their friend, but that might lead to deletion.
Romney is preparing himself to be the wearer of the scooped out hide of Zombie Reagan, which means saying really stoopid, uninformed nonsense and basking in the glow of the adoration of the sycophantic press corps.
But Reagan he ain’t.
Which for anybody else but a delusional Repug is a good thing.
Well, to be honest, I’m kind of proud of how paranoid I am, but for some reason my paranoia tends to focus itself on either serious shit like widespread corporate pollution, the long term consequences of legalized bribery that is our current campaign finance system, and global warming, or on bullshit like the zombie hallucinations the Inderal is still causing me.
Terrorism, immigration, and the destruction of the traditional family, not so much.
Also, Zombie Reagan is, and I have this on good authority from my partner, “just totally fucking creepy, take the goddamned mask off already or *I’m* gonna be trying to kill you, okay?”
I guess it’s kind of sad, and please don’t tell your partner, Sidhe, but I’m now absolutely convinced I gotta go out tomorrow and I’m not coming home ’til I get my hands on a Reagan mask….
mikeyy
mikey,
Do it!
My brother has one of those Reagan handpuppets where he’s wearing boxing gloves and you push the levers and he punches. The cat liked to play with it, gnawing on Reagan’s plastic nose.
George Bush Junior. (What?) Oh, sorry. I thought you said “Our National Dumbass.”
I’m off to listen to some, If the thunder don’t get ya (then the lightin’ will!).
My partner’s cool with it as long as I’m not wearing it around the house on the back of my head to scare away the hallucinated zombies. Apparently the whole “And he’s coming after me *backwards*” thing was especially creepy. Mind you, my partner isn’t seeing the zombies, so it’s easy to suggest the Reagan mask is worse.
And my cats used to have a lovely little catnip stuffed Newt Gingrich they enjoyed grabbing by the butt and carrying around in their teeth. Good times, good times.
The American people are like a dog that’s spent its whole life being kicked, beaten and starved. They are innundated daily with militarism, tribal hatred, fear, ignorance-as-a-value, racism, anger, agression and perhaps the most virulent form of xenophobia in the history of the planet.
And Willard “Mitt” Romney is Michael Vick. Works for me…
The bad news, Mikey, is that I’m very much afraid your analogy is right on target. The good news is, I still hope that most Americans — like most dogs under similar conditions — can, with care and time, be rehabilitated. So our problem is to get the electorate away from its abusers. Maybe Howard Dean can throw a pound of tranquilizer-laced hamburg over the fence after Henry Waxman distracts Karl & Dick by starting a noisy argument at their front door?
People are less intelligent, the study says, than you might think they are
Courtesy Rand Corp.
I’ve only known a few cajuns and they were quite proud of France. I’ve been back in the Pacific Northwest for almost 20 years, so I don’t know how they felt about Rumsfailed.
It’s time to get mean, people. I don’t know if you’ve seen the pictures of Mitt gleefully holding up a hand-lettered sign that says “No to Osama/Obama”. I propose we all wear T-shirts reading, “No to Nazi General Romney/Rommel”.
I don’t know if you’ve seen the pictures of Mitt gleefully holding up a hand-lettered sign that says “No to Osama/Obama”
…”and Chelsea’s Moma.”
I just want to put this video out there – it says everything we say daily in a very powerful, direct way:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3slsCBqrQfk&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Edailykos%2Ecom%2Fstory%2F2007%2F7%2F22%2F73916%2F6616
Please watch it, and link it.
I don’t know if you’ve seen the pictures of Mitt gleefully holding up a hand-lettered sign that says “No to Osama/Obama”
Those pictures haven’t been proven to be real. Anyways, the sign said “No to Obama, Osama, and Chelsea’s Momma”, which is a perfectly valid point.
There is effectively an Obama-bin Laden ticket for the Democrats, because if you elect Obama (a man with radical ties), then it’s a win for Osama.
Plus, Obama supports mandatory sex education for kindergarteners. Despite the facts that expanded sex education had lead to a rise in underage sex and STDs.
Gary, didn’t you mean “Obama supports mandatory gay abortions for underage kindergarteners”?
Teh Sammich, I’d like to echo that guy protesting Wolfowitz’s speech:
Sieg Heil, you Nazi motherfucker!11!!!
Obama (a man with radical ties)
“Radical ties”?
Are those the one with the naked chick on them that light up in the dark?
Or the bow ones that spin around?
Culture of Truth, liveblogging Russert at Atrios:
Russert: bush wants to stay isn’t he right
Feingold: the people of America voted in November to pull out of Iraq so naturally one year later we are debating how big the troop increase should be
Russert: what are you going to do about it tough guy

Moderate Republican Vlad Dracul? L o fucking L!
Dracul, that weak-kneed pretty-boy VINO… Feh! Mutherfucker ain’t even pro-pestilence!
Funny as ever, but Brad, what’s your problem w/ John Stossel?
What’s wrong, indeed…
http://www.fair.org/index.php?page=2894
Those pictures haven’t been proven to be real. Anyways, the sign said “No to Obama, Osama, and Chelsea’s Momma”, which is a perfectly valid point.
Eric Kleefeld of TPM’s Election Central:
Funny, Madden doesn’t say anything about the sign’s not being real.
And the sign says Moma, not Momma.
The problem with Stossel is he exists.
Also that he still wears that pornstar ‘stache.
This has been bugging me for a while, and i just figured out why.
Someone should point out to 10 tee shirt girl that Republicans have made it easier then ever for terrorists to kill Americans. And that’s what they want.
I think it’s true that republicans believe if there was a terrorist attack on american soil that took american lives every nine months or so they would have a permanent lock on all three branches of government, and could institute everything from concentration camps to a Stasi – style internal security state to death squads. I do think they believe this.
They are wrong…
mikey
The problem with Stossel is he exists.
Why is his “existence” a problem? I admit I didn’t watch the YouTube link, but I don’t get why he should be hated along with, say, Glenn Reynods.

THIS! THIS is how you get tough on crime, motherfuckers!
Why is his “existence” a problem? I admit I didn’t watch the YouTube link, but I don’t get why he should be hated along with, say, Glenn Reynods.
Gee whiz, why would people at this site be down on propagandists for laissez-faire economics?
Oh, holy God. Are we gonna do the Stossel thing again?

I invite you to google “John Stossel” +”can of peas”. It will tell you everything you need to know about him.
Ace o’ Spades in the news.
Seems he’s found something to fret over besides bacon ‘n playdoh.
….. wow
Talking to himself as Rudy, saying post more nudity.
Ace should genuinely be institutionalized. Even Althouse couldn’t outcrazy him on this one.
It’s all about the literary devices.
Gary Ruppert said: Those pictures haven’t been proven to be real.
Well, Romney spokesman Kevin Madden responded to a request for comment, saying “The governor stopped briefly for a picture with a supporter who just happened to be holding their own sign with an alliterative play on words,” Madden said, via e-mail. “I don’t think it was equating or comparing anyone.” So I guess it was real.
http://electioncentral.tpmcafe.com/blog/electioncentral/2007/jul/21/spokesman_romney_not_equating_or_comparing_anyone_when_holding_obama_osama_sign
So if Senator Clinton brandishes a sign saying “No to Mitt Poligamy” or Edwards poses with a supporter with his sign of “No to Godfeather Giuliani” or Obama smiles at a sign saying “No to Inseine POW McCain,” the conservatives in the blogosphere will relax and admire the wordplay.
Gary Ruppert said: “the sign said No to Obama, Osama, and Chelsea’s Momma.”
You know that it didn’t. The sign said “No to Obama Osama and Chelsea’s Moma”.
We remain unclear on what Mitt “Polygamy” has against the Museum of Modern Art, which is actually NOT owned by Chelsea Clinton. But clearly, minus the comma between Obama and Osama, the two are being equated.
Somebody said (heavens, I believe it was The Hon. Dr. St. Rev. Bradley S. Rocket, Esq, PhD, MD) that “Romney’s neither crazy nor dumb. He’s definitely a sleazy opportunist, but he’s not a stupid lunatic.”
I believe I require some proof of this assertion. I can SO see him adminstering a neck rub in violation of all human decency to Pratibha Patil, India’s first female president. Isn’t that a global moment to look forward to?
Isn’t that a global moment to look forward to?
I’m gonna start drinking again, you know. What the fuck, it’s not like I’m otherwise employable at this point anyway.
Romney got it wrong. As this song by yours truly suggests, it’s not that she’s too left, and, it’s not that she’s too right. It’s just that you never know who she really is, or what she really believes in.
