Shorter David Frum

- ‘Blowback’ is an anti-Semitic concept. Ron Paul is an anti-Semite. So is Andrew Sullivan.
‘Shorter’ concept created by Daniel Davies and perfected by Elton Beard.
Good thing nobody asked him about the US entry into World War II.
Did anyone ask Prescott Bush about that?
He looks kind of sad there. Is he already regretting this mendacious bit of slime directed at Ron Paul? Maybe he has a conscience after all.
More likely, his undies are too tight. Or he just realized that thinking hurts.
So, has Senator Gravel been tarred as an anti-Semite yet? Or do you have to be at a certain level in the polls before you get to be one?
What David Frum is actually saying in the photo above:
“You know, you really shouldn’t leave your TV on so loud like that, the creep down the hall phoned the manager. Yeah. You know what I did? I climbed out on the ledge to see if I could disconnect the cable but I couldn’t reach, so you know what I did? I turned the sound real loud up on my TV too, ya know, so people would think that all our TV’s had somethin’ wrong with em… ”
“Ok, well I’ll see you later, huh? I’ll give you a call! I’m gonna go have a shower…”
I really did think of that for the lookalikes post, but I couldn’t find a pic of Louis Tully without his glasses on.
I dunno, this pic is pretty much a dead ringer:

Maybe Frum is the Superman to Tully’s Clark Kent.
Canadian comedian comparisons abound! What about Scott Thompson?
No, you’re right. Anybody up for some Parcheesi?
“Good thing nobody asked him about the US entry into World War II.”
Yes, because the implications of entering WWII and NAFTA are so fucking spot-on similar.
This clown is known as one of their “thinkers.”
It is telling that in the course of the Bush 43 administration, critical thinking skills have become un American activities.
Can I go to Costa Rica now?

It is truly a topsy-turvy world in which we live when a batshit loonie like Pat Buchanan can make this much sense.
Frightening…

Yes. He frequently sounds like the only fairly sane individual of all the people at “Townhall” when they do the ‘shorter’ versions here. I have heard that he is very racist. I have also heard that he is a member of the Religious Right. Apparently you can be both those things and also intelligent?

Stopped watch. Twice a day.
Buchanan was an isolationist before the war, and he stuck by his guns on it. As a result, he ends up on our side by parallel motivation. We don’t like war for our reasons, he doesn’t like war for his reasons, and while neither of our reasons line up exactly, we produce the same conclusion.
I’m still occasionally baffled to see Buchanan writing under a banner that says “Anti-War”
Yeah. I wonder if there was violence within the US of some kind, like the Minutemen against Latin immigrants, would he come to a totally different conclusion about it?
Massive violence I mean. There already is a bunch of violence.
Yeah, but I wasn’t speaking to Buchanan’s general political views, which are horrific, authoritarian and racist. He is a genuine madman. But rather I was surprised by his specific interpretation of a single event, that Ron Paul was not only entitled to believe that the US had actually DONE things to piss off the muslim world, but it was categorically stupid to avoid examining root causes. The “they hate us for what we are vs. they hate us for what we do” argument.
I neither want nor need Pat Buchanan on my side, and if I found our political positions begining to coincide I would seriously re-examine my own beliefs. Rather this is a fascinating condition, a symptom if you will, indicating how far out of the mainstream this administration has gone…

Pat’s is a smart, rational authoritarian. He opposes the war because he knows we can’t win – and for no other reason. Would he put you and me in a camp if he could?
You betcha.
I am giving credit where credit is due, mikey. Pat’s editorial is well written and argued.
“One finishes as Gore Vidal” — a fate worse than death, that! Imagine, the ignonimity of ending one’s life as a well-respected man of letters not beholden to the self-serving horseshit of political mau-mauist, and being forced to live in a huge mansion in Italy with only millions of dollars to keep one company!
Andrew Sullivan wishes Frum was right…
I just finally figured out what he looks like. He looks like a very, very concerned ventriloquist’s dummy.
I’m going with the Rick Moranis character in Ghostbusters. Can’t you just hear him saying, “Gee, I think all I got is acetylsalicylic acid, generic.”
“I’m going with the Rick Moranis character in Ghostbusters. Can’t you just hear him saying, “Gee, I think all I got is acetylsalicylic acid, generic.â€?
And then getting chased by a crazy looking dog into Central Park, only to be dragged to the ground by the same dog against the glass at Tavern on the Green, while apathetic New Yokers finish their coffee over polite conversation.
I totally see it.
Joe Isuzu with a migraine.
Mr. Vidal has sold his villa in Italy and has returned to the United States. (Presumedly this was prompted by the death of his partner and his failing health.) He now lives in Toluca Lake, California.
David “Religious Minorities Should not do Anything to Offend the Majority Religion” Frum is complaining about anti-Semitism? That’s rich … seems ter me that not so long ago, being Jewish (and hence not believing that Jesus was the son of God) was considered so offensive to the Majority (Christian) religion that they’d even go so far as to kill us if we didn’t convert.
Is David Frum one of them self-hating Jews the neo-cons are always upset about?
Anyway, if “blowback is an anti-Semitic concept”, what about the Dochschloss so many of the right embrace? It has a history, ya know. Neo-cons would do well to learn it, nu?
Frum is Canadian, no? Sorry David, we don’t trust Frenchies, especially Canadian Frenchies. Put on your beret and go home to your Canadian bacon, maple syrup and cross checking penalties.
Hey, Mikey, ya gotta date! Well done, that man. Being an indoors cat, I’m not allowed dates, but I hear it’s all about sharing a raw fishhead, then having screaming sex on the fence at 3 am.
Boy, do I envy you…
Conservatives will soon enjoy a choice between the charismatic and charming Fred Thompson and the creative and innovative Newt Gingrich.
I am so hoping this is satire.
While I’m here, I’d like to ask a serious question: why is it that wingnuts are so resistant to the idea that They Want To Kill Us Because Of Our Actions? Is it really that they don’t want to feel it’s at all their fault? Is it just that they can feel virtuous howling for the deaths of crazed villains, but might feel kinda stupid howling for the deaths of people because we killed ’em first so they’re tryin’ ta kill us so we gotta kill more of them so they won’t want to kill more of us?
Or do they really not believe that the US has committed all those atrocities? Is it that they don’t want to think of their Shining City Of Hope And Glory, no, hang on, that’s the UK…ah, Shining Stars And Stripes Of Freedom, yeah, that’s it. They don’t want to think of their Shining Stars And Stripes Of Freedom And Democracy And A Stale Bun as the kind of country that does bad things?
Easy answer. They’re fucking idiots.
Done. Moving on.
I’m down with the fishheads, that’s a winner. But sex on the fence? Yikes. I’m a biped, Qetesh. A big, clumsy biped. With miles, years and damage. I think, if I end up with a chance for sex, it will be on a more stable platform.
The good news? I’m old. I date old women. We never got over the seventies. Sex is the most likely outcome. Woo. Followed immediately by Hoo. And then a brief rest.
Ok, I’m ready to go again…

Qetesh:
As far as I have been able to tell, the bolded phrases are key. I haven’t talked with many people who are true, hard-core believers of the hard right. I have lived all my life in Chicago (a large city in the interior of the USA) and the suburbs of that city, so the people I interact with tend to be urban and suburban types, and usually middle class.
From talking with my suburban conservative/libertarian father, who has never been in the millitary, the ideas that he tends to find emotionally troubling are, that the US government could or would do something that was morally wrong, and that the US government might not be able to ensure our safety. He has said that he does not object to the Neoconservative’s idea of the ‘Long War’.
My Reaganite boss, who was in the Marines, is a bit harder to figure. I think he is very pro-millitary, and he has suggested that he does not necessarily think an airstrike on Iran would be a bad idea. He does not like Bush, and considers him to be an idiot. I am not sure what my boss would say about the idea of the ‘Long War’, if I were to talk to him about it.
Sorry, a long answer, and not a very helpful one. But as far as I can see, the bolded parts are key, to many people at least. I hope that these views can be changed in people’s minds, somehow.
The good news? I’m old. I date old women. We never got over the seventies. Sex is the most likely outcome. Woo. Followed immediately by Hoo. And then a brief rest.
Actually, that sounds like a lot of fun, Mikey.
And Qetesh, I have realized that I didn’t really answer your question, which was about the Wingnuts (= Hard Right). I know the “Soft Right” more, as I said.
But, have you checked out Dave Neiwert’s blog? Especially Sara Robinson’s series on Authoritarian followers. I highly recommend her series. If you go to Neiwert’s blog, her links are on the left, scroll down a bit. Here are the first 3 entries:

Highly, highly reccomended for anyone who wants to understand the 28% we always are talking about here.
While I’m here, I’d like to ask a serious question: why is it that wingnuts are so resistant to the idea that They Want To Kill Us Because Of Our Actions?
It’s American Exceptionalism at work. America is God’s Shining City on a Hill, and Americans (the real ones, of course, not those treasonous libruls) are the Chosen Elect Elite, They Whose Every Action Is Holy And Incontrovertibly Good, They Who Poop Democracy and Candy.
And if you point out that maybe, just maybe, once in a while, the government of the people does something that maybe the people ought not to be so overweeningly proud of… well, off to Gitmo for you, pal!
