Shorter Michael Medved

‘The Senator party’ vs. ‘The Governor party’
Above: Michael Medved is a film critic, best-selling author and nationally syndicated radio talk show host
- The primary difference between the two political parties is that Democrats like to make a big show of using government to help people, while Republicans prefer the government to screw people over behind the scenes.
‘Shorter’ concept created by Daniel Davies and perfected by Elton Beard.
That man earns his celery.
Class warrior with a moustache!
M. Medved–stalker.
I think you mean, “Classy warrior!” Because that man is styling.
Democrats like to make a big show of using government to help people, while Republicans prefer the government to screw people over behind the scenes while loudly blaming their victims for relying on the government in the first place.
Fixed!
Incoherent gibberish, chock full of shaky premises, idiotic omissions and nonsensical conclusions.
The GOP looks to “outsiders”!? The son of a President and the grandson of a US Senator is not, in any way, shape or form, an outsider. Reagan was nominally more so, but he was a national figure before he was a governor. And then considering that Nixon and Bush Sr were both Congressmen before they were President, he’s down to “Reagan” in modern history to back his thesis. Meanwhile, out of the last two Democratic presidents, both were, wait for it, Governors! And unlike the current occupant of the White House, they were complete outsiders to the DC scene.
To bring up the New Deal is particularly stupid, seeing how it was thought up by and administered by…a former Governor! One who had also served as a DC bureaucrat.
Then, of course, he’ll have to come up something else in 5 or 9 years when President Spitzer takes the reigns.
Why even write this column? Was it a dare?
I loves me some celery!
The spirit of Art Frahm lives on.
If you imagine that Medved’s underwear is around his ankles.
Medved likes to put big, thick, juicy celery sticks in his mouth. That picture proves it.
My favorite line: “Because of the traditional Republican emphasis on efficient administration, it was only with distinct hints of incompetence in handling Hurricane Katrina and the Iraq war that some of the loyal GOP supporters of President Bush began to turn away from him. ”
Wow, those “hints of incompetence” sure were subtle. Took a trained movie critic to notice them, I guess.
Who knew Medved was a Chelsea supporter.
Totally OT, but has anyone noticed the vigor with which Turkey seems to defend its religion/state separation? http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/6615627.stm
Some of what they do seems a step to far (purging religious military officers, for example). But the commitment to non-theocracy is refreshing. Can you imagine Americans protesting for secularism?
No. No I can not. And that’s the frightening part.
Democrats, by contrast, view government as a powerful change agent, not a threat to privacy or prosperity. They prefer current and former legislators as their nominees because Congress remains branch of government that changes laws and thereby alters reality.
Gravity pulling too hard? Write your congressman and demand action.
Because that man is styling.
No. No, he’s not. That particular shade of green on him is disastrous, IMO.
The shirt. I’m talking about the shirt!
Democrats, by contrast, view government as a powerful change agent, not a threat to privacy or prosperity.
Damn it! I want these logically-impaired lazy-ass pundits to stop exploding my head. Medved can take his false dilemma and shove it right up his hasty generalization.
Democrats never look to governers to be president. Remember Senator Jimmy Carter, Senator Bill Clinton, and Senator Howard Dean?
I wish Congress would change the reality of that moustache.
You try putting on a ridiculous moustache and walking around a mall, and see what kind of comments you get!
Because of the traditional Republican emphasis on efficient administration, it was only with distinct hints of incompetence in handling Hurricane Katrina and the Iraq war that some of the loyal GOP supporters of President Bush began to turn away from him.
Oh, that is priceless. There have only been a few hints of incompetence. My stars and garters, Medved’s a tool. He should go back to writing “Golden Turkey” books.
so why is Senator McCain teh frontrunner? Ok so, is Dennis Kusinich can be used to evaluate the “true” beliefs of the Democratic party merely because he unilaterally chose to run for President, then I call Gary Bauer the definer of the true Republican values of what government ought to do. And ain’t no way he’s about keeping the gubbamint from interfering with family life. The last two presidents who came to office almost wholly on their power inside the beltway were Bush, Sr. and Gerald Ford. Ahhhh to be fair, LBJ has to go on that list too.
What is suspiciously absent from this whole 10th grade social science class compare and contrast essay is that any Republican in Congress with presidential aspirations has been hopelessly tainted by association with Bush. The Republican party ran the whole show for almost six years; so where are their congressional standouts? Bill Frist? Fred Thompson? Dennis Hastert? Someone from the administration who stood out in spite of everything? Not even Colin Powell could manage that. Every two term presidency since WWII has produced at least a presidential nominee, Nixon, Bush, Gore (and all of those were elected president at some point).
Dorothy said,
Democrats like to make a big show of using government to help people, while Republicans prefer the government to screw people over behind the scenes while loudly blaming their victims for relying on trusting the party that doesn’t believe in effective government in the first place.
Fixed! Again!
(grumble) danged strike tags don’t work here, eh?
Is that Lech Walesa? Or maybe a young Bela Karoli? Maybe one of da Bears guys?
I’m thinking its a bank surveillance camera shot of a north dakota thug trying to hold up a bank for crack money with a bunch of celery, Pinko…
mikey
Democrats, by contrast, view government as a powerful change agent, not a threat to privacy
Thank Zeus for Republicans, or our right to privacy would have been threatened to within an inch of its life. And don’t even mention the dastardly Democratic threat to habeas corpus!
“Dude, spark this celery!”
Strike tags.Ahem.a young Bela Karoli?
LOL
