“Rudy, Rudy, Rudy, Rudy!”
Ah, America’s mayor:
Rudy Giuliani said if a Democrat is elected president in 2008, America will be at risk for another terrorist attack on the scale of Sept. 11, 2001.
But if a Republican is elected, he said, especially if it is him, terrorist attacks can be anticipated and stopped.
Hey, it worked like a charm the last time we elected a Republican president.
The former New York City mayor, currently leading in all national polls for the Republican nomination for president, said Tuesday night that America would ultimately defeat terrorism no matter which party gains the White House.
“But the question is how long will it take and how many casualties will we have? Giuliani said. “If we are on defense [with a Democratic president], we will have more losses and it will go on longer.
“I listen a little to the Democrats and if one of them gets elected, we are going on defense, Giuliani continued. “We will wave the white flag on Iraq. We will cut back on the Patriot Act, electronic surveillance, interrogation and we will be back to our pre-Sept. 11 attitude of defense.
In other words, we won’t torture people, we won’t conduct warrantless spying on our own citizens, and we won’t have a government run by creepy authoritarians.
After his speech to the Rockingham County Lincoln Day Dinner, I asked him about his statements and Giuliani said flatly: “America will safer with a Republican president.
Giuliani, whose past positions on abortion, gun control and gay rights have made him anathema to some in his party, believes his tough stance on national defense and his post-Sept. 11 reputation as a fighter of terrorism will be his trump card with doubting Republicans.
“This war ends when they stop coming here to kill us! Giuliani said in his speech. “Never, ever again will this country ever be on defense waiting for [terrorists] to attack us if I have anything to say about it. And make no mistake, the Democrats want to put us back on defense!
Giuliani said terrorists “hate us and not because of anything bad we have done; it has nothing to do with Israel and Palestine. They hate us for the freedoms we have and the freedoms we want to share with the world.
“And as president, I will work to take away those freedoms, thus depriving the terrorists of their key recruiting tool!”
Get outta here, ya maniac!
The terrorists, they are just jealous. So there.
Yeah, that’s the same crappy mayor I remember.
Put him in charge and it’ll be Giuliani time for any civil liberties the shrub’ites don’t finish off.
Fuck you, Rudy.
“This war ends when they stop coming here to kill us!
And when was the last time that actually happened?
It’s been a few years now, hasn’t it? At what point do we decide that they’ve “stopped” coming over here to kill us?
Asshole.
Because really, what America needs is a competent fascist. =/
“This war ends when they stop coming here to kill us! Giuliani said in his speech.
To which Pamela responded, “But what about the global jihad?”
his post-Sept. 11 reputation as a fighter of terrorism
What, exactly, has Rudy Giuliani done to fight terrorism?
Maybe he plans to make his anti-jaywalking program national?
What, exactly, has Rudy Giuliani done to fight terrorism?
He got on TV after the 9/11 attacks, and looked relatively composed and concerned. It’s not much, but in the leadership vacuum of those days it seemed significant.
I’m against Divorcey McCombover, even though I’m all about the anti-jaywalking. Fucking pedestrians denting my car with their heads and shit, just because I ignored their little crosswalks. Uh…
What, exactly, has Rudy Giuliani done to fight terrorism?
He moved the Office of Emergency Management to the heart of terrorist-related program activities in Manhattan.
Giuliani said terrorists “hate us and not because of anything bad we have done; it has nothing to do with Israel and Palestine. They hate us for the freedoms we have and the freedoms we want to share with the world.
Oh! So close, but suggesting that America has done anything bad at all! Amateur move, binky. There is nothing bad going on with Israel and Palestine, although, even suggesting Palestine exists as an abstract object is going to ruin you with the Long Island hawks. You’ll never make it to the White House with that implied attitude.
You have to blow sunshine up my ass 24/7 if you want to get near the Shiny Red Candy-Like Button, Rudy.
I suppose we should be grateful that every GOP Pres candidate seems to think the strategery for winning the White House involves pandering to the 30% of the population who truly believe that the “terrorists” hate us for our freedom. (Really? This is the only reason every single terrorist hates us? That’s some mighty powerful Kool-aid the terrorists use.)
Still, at some point you have to be embarrassed that these serious people make Yogi Berra’s statements seem profound.
“They hate us for the freedoms we have and the freedoms we want to share with the world.â€?
Attention, Sadly, Nosians: I would like to share my awesome freedomsTM with all of you. Of course, this gift requires me to shoot all of you in the head with a revolver. Consider it the price of freedomTM. Sharing is a virtue. You should thank me for giving you this opportunity.
Or…do you hate freedomTM? Is that what you’re saying? My god, are you all a bunch of Islamoatheists? Well then, I’ll have to shoot all of you for that too. If you won’t accept my gift of freedomsTM, you must want to take mine.
This is all quite logical, people.

Thank you, kingubu. Would you like me to give you freedom™? My offer still stands.
What, exactly, has Rudy Giuliani done to fight terrorism?
Why, he set up a security consulting firm with his buddy Bernie Kerik.
Finally, I get it! We elect another power-hoarding Reptilican as President, he continues to erode our freedoms to the point at which we no longer have any, and then Dictator Rudy can declare the Warp on Terra over. I mean, they can’t hate us for our freedoms if we don’t have them anymore, can they now?!
OT, but, look what happens when wingnut denial is taken to whole new levels:

Tax evaders holed up in N.H. mansion
CONCORD, N.H. – A couple convicted of tax evasion for concealing $1.9 million in income was sentenced to prison Tuesday, but they refused to attend the hearing and have vowed not to leave their fortress-like mansion.
Ed and Elaine Brown insist tax laws do not exist and have holed up in their hilltop home in Plainfield, which has a watchtower, concrete walls and the ability to run on wind and solar power. Ed Brown, 64, said he has stockpiled food and supplies.
“The world belongs to the creator. It doesn’t belong to man,â€? he said Tuesday. “It doesn’t belong to the United States government.â€?…
In telephone interviews, Ed Brown said the couple will stay in their home despite convictions and warrants.
“I could care less what he does, Brown said of McAuliffe. “I can’t talk to a fiction. You’re a fiction, too.
So, then, who was Brown talking to?
Wow, Rudy is really sounding like he thinks it’s still Sept. 12, 2001 – maybe as late as November, 2002.
Does he think that that kind of voice-of-God Republican Inevitability posturing will be seen as retro and inspire some nostalgia by 2008?
Atheist got it right. I would just add: Rudy had the decency to look traumatized like the rest of us. When someone asked a question to which he didn’t know the answer, he said, “I don’t know.” Which is to say, unlike, e.g., Bush, he didn’t condescend to the public.
No, Churchillian leadership it wasn’t. But at the time it seemed like enough.
However, before that, he was an asshole supreme. And he has remained one…to this very day!

Hey! I’ve got an idea!
Let’s just f***ing nuke ’em!
See, Rudy couldn’t do anything else. This city walked around shocked, composed, and RAW for two days. There was no posturing, no egos.
It couldn’t and didn’t last.
It wasn’t character. Just coping with stunning tragedy. So when the earthquakes and hurricanes come, or nuclear war in the middle east or (what are the other bad things we’re looking at down the pike right now?) happen at least the Guilianiman will be able to FEEL it with the rest of us.
Yes, afm, but weren’t, um, “Presidential feelings” a top problem rightists had with our last Prez?
Offense wins games. Defense wins championships.
Gawd, Americans. Embarrassing to even be considered one at this point.
Some terrorists, deeply radicalized by America’s unfair and unjust expoitation and support for an increasingly fascist Israel, came here and on that clear sunny morning in 2001 they killed 3000 people, most of whom were Americans.
Since then we have killed very nearly a million people, mostly muslims. We have destroyed and occupied two nations. We have put the economic and polictical wellbeing of at least half a dozen more nations at risk. We have sacrificed our core beliefs, supported the worst kind of foul regimes and utterly failed to govern our own nation.
America is by far the worst terrorist nation in the world today, responsible for far more bombings, shootings and kidnapping than any other. Or is it somhow different if your military BUYS it’s terror weapons as opposed to improvising them?
They kill army or police and they’re terrorists. We blow up entire neighborhoods (see Haifa street) and we’re the Coalition. It’s time to recognize that our every response to 9/11 has made our situation, not to mention the worlds situation, worse. You cannot fight an asymetrical war with armored brigades and jet fighters. Invading and occupying countries makes you more hated, and further radicalizes the population. This solution to a single terror attack, mindless, endless bloodshed and terror, will only perpetuate the terror threat.
Notice how well it has worked for Israel. By assasinating, bombing, invading, oppressing and building walls they have only increased the number of enemies willing to fight them. It can never be a solution, and no matter how bloodthirsty Rudy is (see Amadou Diallo) he is wearing the same set of blinders as dick cheney and ariel sharon…

and true. so true. rudy made not just the “move the emergency center to the target” good call, but also pushed the cell phones deal on the fire dept over their objections–the very deal which made it impossible for those phones to work with the emergency phones.
so, as usual in our post-reality state: a guy who actually was TERRIBLE in his policies but was EXCELLENT in his presentation is considered 9/11 hero.

You are welcome to contact me if you like. The media is getting closer to the truth but still has a way to go.
below is what really is going on and there is a lot more. The White House was acutely aware. No White house could be that ignorant and still administer even the most fundamental duties. Could Rudy have been that ignorant about Kerik? By default the answer is definatively NO simply due to the fact of how many bright, competitive people were on the Mayors staff hunting for ways to impress Rudy.
How far would it have to go to drive a bright young girl to make this kind of statement starting on April 12, and still going on.
STATEMENT OF PROTEST : My name is Talia Ray.
I have a sister named Ava Ray. We have a father, Larry Ray, who loves us very much and whom we both love very much as well.
Rudolph Guliani and Bernard Kerik are both criminals. My dad was Bernard Kerik’s best man in 1998. I know they are criminals because my father knows a lot about their illegal activities, he has told me the very things I read today in the news abou V.P. Dick Cheney several years ago and my father has exposed them once already. That’s why Bernard Kerik already has gotten indicted and arrested, and it will happen again.
President Bush, Vice president Cheney and Rudolph Guliani are lying to the American public. In an effort to keep my dad quiet, these criminals have framed him in 2000, have orchestrated over twenty arrests against him, and have separated my sister and me from him and each other. It is a malicious coincidence in our family that my mother is a mentally sick and emotionally disturbed person. I know this because she physically, sexually and emotionally abused me since I was a little girl, before my sister was even born. Our mother has done the same abuse to Ava, my sister. I know this because Ava told me and I have seen it going on myself. Below are some of the facts.
These acts are horrible and unthinkable, sadly they are the truth. Only corruption from the highest office can organize and get away with this.
My mother threatened me for a whole year in 2004 before this started that Bernard Kerik is going to help her destroy my father and me, too, if I didn’t side with her. She did not want me to talk about the sexual abuse I suffered from her and other members of her family.
Rudy Guliani and Bernard Kerik used their influence to direct the courts and promote corrupt results. As much as they try to discredit my father, an honorable man, I see that the truth does prevail. Bernard Kerik was arrested and indicted in June 2006, and in recent weeks the Federal government offered him two years in prison in exchange for his guilty plea for tax fraud, evasion and other crimes. Also recently, it was out in the news that Cheney lied about the link between Saddaam Houssein and Al Queida. The U.S. Attorney Antonio Gonzales and the Bush White House Administration have also been exposed this week for lying to America about having prior knowledge about Bernard Kerik. It is clear that these men lied to America and to everybody, and they want it covered up. These are only some of the things my father has told me for several years which they want covered up.
My father, sister and I have paid a very big price for our father’s commitment to get the truth out to the American people. Our home has been broken into by uniformed police officers without a search warrant. My sister has been sent to spend unsupervised time with my mother numerous times despite of her countless complaints of abuse. Our father has been falsely imprisoned for six months as a result of a premeditated set up carried out by Judge Julie Marino, Judge Dilts and others. My sister has been placed in the custody of my mother for over 16 months now by DYFS in spite of their prior substantiations of my mother as a child abuser. I have been placed in three different shelters where I have suffered both sexual and physical harassment and molestation over the past sixteen months. My academic education has been destroyed. At the request of DYFS, I was baselessly removed from all of my Advanced Placement classes in my junior year last year, and I have been continuously told that cleaning the shelters I have been living in, is more important than school work. The courts and authorities are being used as tools of destruction to inflict pain and suffering on my sister Ava Ray , now 7 yrs old and me, Talia Ray now 17 yrs old.
Lt. General Charles Pittman U.S.M.C. told me to write to Vice President Cheney at the White House and ask him for help in 2005. General Pittman told me to identify him in my letter and tell the Vice President he told me to do so. I did. I would tell my little sister don’t worry Ava, help is on the way. Ava would cry, hug me, and say “I love you Talia, I’m so scared. One day after I emailed my letter to Vice President Dick Cheney a DYFS worker came to our house telling my dad, my sister and me she is here because Vice President Cheney wants to know what is going on. We all felt relieved, Ava and I both ran to our father hugging him. One week later it became far more horrible. Help never arrived. I feel I gave my sister a false sense of hope that she would be safe, free from the horrors of the abuse my mom Teresa Ray made sure I became intimately familiar with for the rest of my life. I smile whenever I think of my little sister, then it hurts a lot.
December 2, 2005 my dad was again falsely arrested. Ava and I were seperated that night.
Ava, and I have never seen or spoke to each other again. I miss my father a lot.
Lt. General Pittman always tells me my dad is a great man and he cares about all of us. My dad travelled a lot when I was a little girl and I would ask him if he could stay home, why not? He would tell me there are some very bad people in the world and some very good people who care about others. Dad always would tell me about some very good people in Russia he was working with, to stop the bad people. As time passed my dad started to tell something terrible is supposed to happen in America and a lot of innocent people will die if they are not stopped. He wanted me to know the truth. My father always told me since I can remember, “Truth Wins and everyone is entitled to know the truth. I remember when my dad got indicted in March 2000. He asked me if I was alright. I asked him if he was alright. He hugged me and said yes. From then on, my dad seemed a little more worried, and did not want me in N.Y.C. I of course was getting older and friends would invite me to go to New York with their family for the day. My father explained to me, he loved me, and New York is not as safe as it seems. He told me many times there is a real threat of an attack and when it gets back to normal then I can.
Lt. General Pittman told me to write another letter to Vice President Cheney just before my father was released from jail in May 2006. I was sixteen living in a shelter. DYFS, Judge Julie Marino and Judge Thomas Dilts made it so hard for me to get access to a computer that I could not email my letter pleading for him to do something to save my dad, my sister and me from things so bad no one could believe them until they were seeing it over and over for two yrs in Somerset County, Vice President Cheney until September 2006. This time I felt I needed to tell Vice President Cheney about my dad’s work with N.A.T.O. at the last minute to stop the kosovo crisis and more on behalf of America. Like wake up, this makes no sense that no one would protect our Civil Rights from being violated which would have protected Ava, dad and me from the beginning. This is still the case today.
This time I did not wait for the help that never was and will never come, including today. Why Not ? How could Vice President Cheney and the White House acknowledge they know what “Human Atrocities are being done to a dedicated Patriot and his two little girls, yet ignore their cries for help, ignore Lt. General Pittman and others ? Only one reason, Vice President Cheney and President Bush are involved in it and it must be in their interest.
My father loves me so much that ever since I can remember he taught me to love myself and the most important relationship anyone will ever have is the one with themself. He always told me every relationship I will ever have can only be as good as the one I have with myself never better, a law of nature. He also taught me about honor and integrity.
Everyone asks me how can I endure this ? I tell everyone it is very hard and how much it hurts. But you would have to have grown up as my father’s daughter to understand and nothing does more for a litlle girl than a great relationship with a father who truly loves his daughters.
My father and I have complained to local, county, state and federal authorities. Everyone continues to fail to do their job as officers of the laws that have been established to protect the people. Instead, they rationalize and cower in the fear of corrupt officials above them or prove their loyalty by doing the unimaginable.
For the above stated reasons, I am starting a hunger strike today April 12, 2007 in protest of the crimes that are being committed against me, my sister and our father. I will continue until Ava and I are united with my father and the corrupt officials are brought to Justice.
Sincerely,
Talia
I didn’t think Rudy would jump the shark this soon.
I suppose a person could win a party’s nomination by appealing to the corest of the core, but then what?
First, McCain implodes before announcing; then Mitt fudges his gun fetish; now this.
It’s almost time for Fred Thompson’s two weeks of viability, kind of like an imperfect blastocyst. Nature abhors imperfection.
Hey mikey, I’ll have to disagree with you on few parts:
1) Afghanistan. It was shitty before we got to it, and there was very clear evidence that their “government” was supporting terrorists. If we had not branched out into the Iraqi debacle, things would be a lot better there.
2)Israel. You cannot label Israel as the sole bad guy in that FUBAR’d situation, after the Yom Kippur War, the tactics of many of their neighbors changed to guerrilla-style (aka “tur’rists”) and still wanted to eliminate Israel as a nation. That does not excuse everything which that government has done since, but the neighbors are just as much to blame.
2)Israel. You cannot label Israel as the sole bad guy in that FUBAR’d situation, after the Yom Kippur War, the tactics of many of their neighbors changed to guerrilla-style (aka “tur’rists) and still wanted to eliminate Israel as a nation. That does not excuse everything which that government has done since, but the neighbors are just as much to blame.
This all requires believing that the Israeli’s are something different than French Algerians or white South Africans. The difference usually noted is supernatural and to my way of thinking anyway quite insane.
Read it and weep.
You are right on both counts, thelogos. Afghanistan was a reasonable target, but when all you have is a hammer (or the only real 21st century military) everything looks like a nail. The problems originating in Afghanistan can NOT be solved by military invasion, history has taught us that a whole bunch of times. The situation called for intelligence ops, behind the scenes manipulative/coercive diplomacy and funding, special ops shooters and an international law enforcement component. My point was that virtually everything we have done in afghanistan has been counterproductive.
As to Israel, I do tend to rail against the Israeli government’s policies toward their neighbors without making an effort to point out that the response of those neighbors is also criminal. I guess I do this for two reasons. First, here in America we only get to read/hear about the shiny good guy Israelis and the EEEVVVIIILLL Palestinian muslim terrorists. I suppose it’s fair to say that my portrayal is as unbalanced as theirs, but I like to think perhaps it balances the picture, if only a little bit.
Second, to be honest, if my family had been kicked out of our homeland fifty years ago and been forced to live in refugee camps and been forced into poverty and there was no education and no health care and I had to spend hours, sometimes DAYS at checkpoints while Israelis go right through – if I was subjected to that kind of apartheid oppression, I would likely take up arms too. It may not be right, but it IS understandable…

god I hate that guy.
it doesn’t matter, anyway. since he agrees with abortion, he won’t get enough of the conservative vote to win the primary. conservatives consider him to be liberal, so he hasn’t a chance in hell.

Rudy seems so ripe for a ratfucking. He’s an Eye-talian guy from Noo Yawk with a Noo Yawk accent, and he was BFF’s with that gangster Bernie Kerik. I will guarantee you Rudy is in for some wicked rumor-mongering, push-polling and all sorts of other GOP ratfucking. He probably has a better chance of winning a general election than McCain or Romney, but I get the feeling that GOP machinery will crush Rudy into dust in the south.

Shoelimpy announces his presence with authority.
I agree with ya on Afghanistan, mikey. I suspect we went in like we did (rather than we should have) to score some PR and sexify it. It’s hard to make shadow wars and battles look like video games.
And I agree to some degree with you on Israel as well, but since the Arab states were the primary aggressors post-1948, I tend to look at them more harshly. If you look at how we treated the Native Americans, I’m not surprised that we didn’t whip out that old playbook and give it to the Likud. I think there were some great ideas on how to deal with Palestine (if you’re curious look up Martin Buber), but things are messy right now and a good way to get that started is to have both Israelis and Palestinians so sick of the BS from Likud and Hamas/PLO that neither group would hold any political power for generations. I think that time is coming, but not yet.
both Israelis and Palestinians so sick of the BS from Likud and Hamas/PLO that neither group would hold any political power for generations.
Sad AND true. Kind of like the position we’re in, where we really have very little choice but to tolerate this corrupt, criminal, incompetent leadership for another 20+ months. Most everybody wants them gone, but like a tumor, they just stay there.
In spite of the years and the history, the Israelis and the Palestinians could have peace anytime. Israel has all the power, military, economic, diplomatic. So it would be up to Israel to step away from the cycle of violent conflict and treat their neighbors fairly. Would there still be attacks? Sure there would, you can’t UN radicalize an entire society overnight, but if Israel would help the Palestinians develop a livable infrastructure, with schools and medical care and clean water the number and ferocity of the attacks would go down fairly rapidly.
But the Likudniks realize that their only hold on power is to demonize an external enemy and create a perpetual state of war. As long as the war is raging, it is “not safe” to adopt a platform of peach. They are criminal thugs, very similar to our criminal thugs…

To thelogos:
I’m going to disagree on the point that the Arab states were aggressors post-1948. Israel invaded for no reason during the Suez Crisis, and while Nasser was a total idiot for blockading the Straits of Tiran, the Israelis and the rest of the Arab states knew he was just bluffing. The Six Days War was a pre-emptive strike against Egypt. Rhetoric was very different from reality for the macho dictators in Egypt, Syria, and Iraq at the time.
Also, I think there are many who would argue that Likud was an outgrowth of feelings of Israeli invincibility, not vunerability, as well as increasing religiosity.
I think that’s the most eloquent thing Shoelimpy has ever said.
Ahhh, the simple joy of ASCII art. But the real question is can he attain the skill level to produce Dancing Snoopy.
What, exactly, has Rudy Giuliani done to fight terrorism?

See the Protocol of Sèvres.

What, exactly, has Rudy Giuliani done to fight terrorism?
He got on TV after the 9/11 attacks
And managed to do it without wetting his pants and crying. So he’s better than Bush.
Here’s a thought experiment for ya mikey (and others willing to participate): What if we are right, and that the bloodshed between Israel and it’s “neighbors” won’t stop until everyone is sick of the butcher’s bill? Do we force that day of reckoning to happen sooner? Or do we let it play out slowly?
There’s a related one with Marxism and capitalism, but I’ll save that for another day.
Do we force that day of reckoning to happen sooner? Or do we let it play out slowly?
How about whatever happens not making a problematic and at best morally dubious project in the Levant our number one foreign policy commitment (with the exception of recreating all the same villiany on our own in Iraq)
“Envy” was the word of the day just after Bush was assigned the Presidency in 2000; it explained why people opposed tax cuts for the rich. Rudy is trying to bring it back. Good luck. Front runner Republican is kind of like best song by BTO – it ain’t sayin much.
Rudy, Clinton, McCain, Obama, it does not matter. Unfortunately it took segregationist Governor Wallace to reveal the truth that “there’s not a dime’s worth of difference between” Republicans and Democrats. The Democrats willingly went along with the War in Iraq, suspension of Habeas Corpus, detaining protesters, opening mail, banning books like “America Deceived’ from Amazon, stealing private lands (Kelo decision), warrant-less wiretapping and refusing to investigate 9/11 properly. They are both guilty of treason.
