Good heavens! Are you still trying to win?
It has been a long, long time since we last linked to Germany’s Brent Bozell, aka David’s Medienkritik. As is often the case when we stop reading some nut or other however, they don’t just disappear but in fact keep on going. Fortunately, other people are around to pick up the slack:
Behind Medienkritik’s assault on Spiegel and other German news outlets I can feel not just justified anger at provincial left-wing attitudes in European newsrooms and readerships but a defensiveness about Bush and neoconservatism in general that I think explains the whole Medienkritik project. Ray D scolds us journalists by saying “introspection and self-criticism are painful, but a less introspective site than Medienkritik is hard to think of. Ray doesn’t seem to realize that his sloppy, half-accurate shotgun approach to “criticizing the German media is itself a problem for trans-Atlantic relations because it fans the flames of anti-Europeanism in the States.
As Speak the Hungarian Rapper might say, business.
Please stay away from those guys! It’s just not fair — paranoid delusions are no minor ailment and shouldn’t be mocked! The “Medienkritikers” have my heartfelt sympathy (and I sincerely hope they get better soon).
From the Radio Free Mike post:
Another right-wing authoritarian peddling paranoia over the monolithic, left-wing media. A cozy little racket, one worthy of sustained cross-cultural analysis.
No. No no no no no. No. A thousand times no.
I am referring, of course, to the new and “improved” comments link. Instead of a nice, easy-to-decipher link that told me how many comments were in a thread, and took me to a separate page with the comments all together, now we get this “Show posts comments” (grammatically abominable, by the way), which merely opens the thread in the same page, meaning I can no longer use the End key to get to the bottom of a comment thread — it takes me all the way to the bottom of the page, which might be a post from last week.
Not good.
Let me be the first to register my extreme displeasure at this newfangled technical contrivance and to implore the proprietors to return to the tried and true, tested ways of yore. There are devices in the universe with which man was not meant to tamper; this is one of them.
While you’re fixing the dang thing, could you tweak it so that whenever I refresh, the hamsters get me another beer? That’d be a big help, thanks.
You do not by any chance happen to have six fingers?
So basically, you want to be able to leave comments without reading anyone else’s? Hmm….
But yes, the grammar does suck.
since we are now a “Complain about Sadly, No! hamsters” thread
i would like this website to give me a blowjob every time i hit refresh.
thank you.

Hey, Bradrocket! Can I still jump on the Sox bandwagon, or is it too late?

Odd..I don’t have this problem. It works exactly like it used to, complete with no preview button.
SN, I think his point was that when Dan Someone returns to an existing thread, he wants to skip to the end of the comments and then scroll up to see just the new ones. That’s what I do, anyway, and I think I’m at least as worthy of projecting my personal proclivities onto the species at large as any of the Corner Kids.
Dorothy,
We turned it off at Dan’s request. We should have a new style ready in next few weeks anyway. And now that you’ve explained it, I see the point. I was a bit annoyed by that myself. 😉
No, but if I’ve read a thread and want to read only the latest new comments… then the End button is a lot more convenient than scrolling, particularly with the megathreads.
Grrrraaaaaarrrr!
We turned it off at Dan’s request.
Yes! At last, I have attained unimaginable POWER! However, I will heed the words of my late Uncle Ben, who said “With great power, comes great responsibility.” If only I had recognized the wisdom of his words before he was killed by a mugger — a crime I could have prevented had I not been so caught up in my own affairs. From this time forward, I vow to use my powers only for good.
Eeyiiihh, cam-ohn.
