A Thursday Gomer Pyle Moment

Bush Dismisses Iraq Panel’s Pullback Plan
By Sheryl Gay Stolberg
November 30, 2006AMMAN, Jordan, Nov. 30 — President Bush today proclaimed Prime Minister Nuri Kamal al-Maliki “the right guy for Iraq,” and said the two had agreed to speed the turnover of security responsibility from American to Iraqi forces.
But Mr. Bush dismissed a reported decision by an independent bipartisan panel to call for a gradual withdrawal of troops.
“Surpraaahs, surpraaahs, surpraaahs!”
“I know there’s a lot of speculation that these reports in Washington mean there’s going to be some kind of graceful exit out of Iraq,” the president said during a joint news conference with Mr. Maliki, referring to the panel’s reports that are expected next week. “We’re going to stay in Iraq to get the job done so long as the government wants us there.”

“I know there’s a lot of speculation that these reports in Washington mean there’s going to be some kind of graceful exit out of Iraq, the president said
I believe Halliburton charges about $300 per banana-peel, so a graceless exit is gonna cost too.
So we’re going to get a disgraceful exit from Iraq. Whoda seen that coming?
Interesting body language on Maliki. He’s leaning away from Bush, his arm positioned for liftoff and a hasty retreat from the photo-op. Plus, he looks like something smells funny, which of course it does.
Oh, and Gavin, not to be too anal about it, but I’m pretty sure Gomer Pyle always gave it a triple “surpraaahs.”
Um. I should clarify: Maliki’s right arm is positioned for liftoff. Um. Yeah.
Carry on.
Wouldn’t this technically be a Gomer Pyle moment?
Ladies and gentelemem, please disregard any rumors of a graceful exit from Iraq you might hear eminating from washington. As you know, it is the policy of this administration to accomplish even the most miniscule of tasks with an awkward gracelessness, adolescent hostility and a criminal disregard for the misery and suffering of others. We will continue to opperate under these policy guidelines, and anything you might hear about a sudden sense that we need to concentrate, grow up and govern are misrepresentations by the press. Thank yew, and gawd bless ‘murka…

Smiling Mortician’s right.

I bet that photo was taken by a Reuters stringer. In the original, Maliki had his arm around Bush. I am just surprised plumes of smoke are missing. /Malkin
“Gooooollllly!!!!
Iraq’s a quagmire, Sarg. What do we do?”
“Buusshhhh!”
“Bush!”
“Yes, sir?”
“You’re an idiot!!
“I know, sir.”
If only.
I have thought for some time that the appropriate parallel for us in Iraq was Stalingrad and not Viet Nam. What was Hitler’s order to Field Marshal Von Paulus (promoted from General just after he was completely trapped)? There wiil be no withdrawal until victory.
But I thought withdrawing before “victory” is what you’re supposed to do if you’re Catholic. Oh, wait. Retired. Never mind.
is it just me or the does the expression on the President of Iraq’s face say “someday soon my charred limbless body is going to be hanging from a bridge”
Wouldn’t this technically be a Gomer Pyle moment?

[fix’d]
So, wait. Gavin posts a perfectly lovely text-image combo on the interwebs and a couple of us point out minor errors, so he actually makes corrections in a timely and competent manner? He’ll never be elected to public office if he keeps this up.
Gallllllveston…. oh, Galllllllllveston.
I also found the body language interesting. He’s totally all, “Fuck, I hate being with this guy, are you people done with me yet? Can I GO, please?”
Graceful exit.
I also found the body language interesting
“Whatever you do — don’t make eye contact! It only encourages them!”
“We’re going to stay in Iraq to get the job done so long as the government wants us there.
Ok, maybe it’s just me. Anyone else see this as advance preparation for withdrawal, political cover for doing what obviously needs doing?
Y’know, I’m on a bunch of meds. But two of ’em actually have a warning that they “may contribute to intense or unusual dreams”. Now that’s legalese. It’s fucked up, folks. And that picture of Jim Neighbors scares me. I may be up most of the night out of fear for the dreams that damn thang might create…

The only thing worse would be if Gavin animated it, so Gomer kind of….springs up from the bottom of the screen.
Yeesh…. just the idea of it is gonna give me bad dreams, and I’ve just had some crappy wine….
I know there’s a lot of speculation that these reports in Washington mean there’s going to be some kind of graceful exit out of Iraq. We’re going to stay in Iraq to get the job done…..snip….And that’s why this business about graceful exit just simply has no realism to it at all.”
This really struck me as funny and pathetic. He’s talking like making a graceful exit out of Iraq is a Bad Thing, something undesirable.
I mean, even in his own wildest pipe dream of not getting out till we’ve achieve Victory, our leaving ought to be graceful, rather than the contrary, shouldn’t it?
I guess he’s bound and determined that we’re going to end up getting ours asses chased out stumbling and falling all over ourselves, knocking down the china and crashing through the windows before tangling ourselves up in the barbed wire fences and trailing broken bottles behind us.
I like the mustache you put in the second picture. You made a funny!!
But you couldn’t help yourself could you? You had to make it look like he popped up in front of the lens didn’t you? You couldn’t plaster him sideways with little white pixels and blurry as hell could you, photoshop freak!?
