Signed, Sealed and Delivered, he’s yours
We can’t wait to see what SullyWatch has to say, but we were struck (to put it kindly) by this latest from Andrew Sullivan’s seemingly never ending willingness to rationalize away the inexcusable:
It was a fascinating CNN interview, in which the vice-president pointedly didn’t renounce his previous beliefs about letting civil marriage be dealt with by the states. When asked if he supported the president’s decision to ban gays from equal rights in the constitution itself, Cheney didn’t say he supported the amendment. He said he supported the president. It struck me as a very careful use of words. [Emphasis added.]
So, Cheney didn’t say he supports the amendment — he said he supports the President. And what is the President doing? Well, last week Andy put it thusly:
The president launched a war today against the civil rights of gay citizens and their families. And just as importantly, he launched a war to defile the most sacred document in the land. […] He is proposing to remove civil rights from one group of American citizens – and do so in the Constitution itself. The message could not be plainer: these citizens do not fully belong in America. Their relationships must be stigmatized in the very Constitution itself.
You found Cheney’s support for the above fascinating Andy? Just when you thought Andy was going to stick up for what’s right, he rolls over and plays dead. [For our earlier comparison of Andy’s different treatment of such “clever instances of obfuscation,” click here.]

Has Sully said he won’t vote for Bush over this issue? I haven’t seen that yet. Come to think of it, the Log Cabin Republicans haven’t said they won’t vote for Bush either.
Once again proving that there’s a fine line between nuanced, obtuse, and too fucking stupid to live.
“Ma’am, are you going to press charges?”
“No, officer, I don’t want to cause any more trouble.”
“Ma’am, you realize that if you don’t press charges, we have to let him go, right?”
“I know. I just want him to come home. He’s not going to hit me anymore, I promise.”
“But ma’am, this is the third time you’ve called us in a month.”
“No. I know. I know. But I love him, and I know he loves me. It’s my fault anyway, for making him so mad. Next time I just won’t open my big mouth, and then he won’t hit me, because I know deep down he loves me…”
Doug beat me to it… just like a battered spouse, Andy keeps going back.
Sad.
norbizness! you hit the nail on the head.

What part of the frog and the scorpion don’t you get?
Sadly, No! caught this first, but Andrew Sullivan’s showing signs of frog-like credulity yet again.
You know, I can understand the sadistic elements present in those in power; it’s the masochistic elements in the ideological true-believers that I can’t understand.
and can sadly no please change to black type on light background???
Hmm, we’ll think about it.
AAAGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! My eyes!
AAAGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! My eyes!
We’ll put you down as “no opinion” on our sad attempts at changing the color scheme.
Oooh. Thank you. Much better;)
And just as importantly, he launched a war to defile the most sacred document in the land.
Gee… how do you feel about the 16th amendment?
