My Obamacare Brings All the Psychotics to the Yard

And they’re like it’s better than we were counting on… Damn right, it’s better than- *BANG* And that’s enough of that.

Joel B. Pollak, Wearing a Dead Man’s Blog:
Ellmers to Sebelius: Why Must Men Buy Maternity Coverage Under Obamacare?

Siiiiiiiiiiiggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh…

Obamacare*.

Shorter (or the last port before Jungle):

  • Ha ha ha, seriously Obamacare? You really think women exist? Oh ho, everyone knows that the only people in existence are white cismen and you supposed others are just the nightmare manifestations of our drug-fueled binges.

So apparently, it turns out that wingnuts haven’t had much success with begging the youth to join their abusers and boycott being healthy. Nor have they had much success in trying to pretend that the Obamacare website being so popular it received way more traffic than it could handle was a sign that Obamacare was somehow unpopular and hated. And it has even turned out that trying to argue that people have the right to be ripped off by their insurance companies and buy outright scams hasn’t been the winner they’ve so desperately needed.

So rather than just give up their obvious and delusional crusade to try and destroy anything that improves people’s lives in any way in fear that giving Democrats a “win” will make the much vaunted “low-information voters” realize that the Republicans are the human-masked Reptilian overlords they have always been, they’ve decided to double the amount of “special juice” they drink and go full wingnut.

Which brings us to the latest tactic. Pretending ciswomen and transmen don’t exist.

Or rather, whining about the mandate that coverage include maternity care.

Because apparently that tiny veneer of deniability in the “pro-life” professional misogynist industry has finally crumbled after trying to stretch the “but BABIEZZZ” argument over the latex sheath of condoms and hormonal birth control.

And now they are quite literally arguing that any health care that isn’t going to a white straight cisman of upper-middle-class to upper class economic station is theft of the most egregious nature**.

The prize for best line of questioning to Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius at the House Committee on Energy and Commerce Wednesday morning must go to Rep. Renee Ellmers (R-NC), for pinning Sebelius down on the question of why Obamacare requires men to buy maternity coverage. Sebelius tried to squirm away–as she had done with many other questioners, but Ellmers was on her “A” game.

How dare those filthy monsters force, FORCE I SAY, the only section of people who matter to buy things that aren’t majoritally*** used by them.

I mean, if white men aren’t using it, then why does it even exist? I mean, why should we even lift one finger to fund maternity care and medical aid for births as if we cared about what happens with-

What? Our long standing bullshit about caring so immensely about “teh babiez” that providers of legal health care needed to be murdered and women needed to live in absolute dread of every missed period? Oh please, we already dropped that mask when we went after any means of preventing pregnancy in the first place. And it feels so good to be able to say that pregnancy should be a long, painful, and often fatal punishment to women who dare fuck in non-approved manner (or while not being rich white women who can afford to jet over to Canada for everything).

Though on a separate note, why do we keep doing so terribly with women voters these days? It makes no damn sense.

Ellmers’s performance was particularly commendable because she is lower in the congressional pecking order

Oh you mean, she’s one of the fun pack of extra crazy brought in by the “tea party revolution” of 2010 that you are still trying to milk as if it was the World Cow, giver of the liquid of eternity?

Well clearly, everything she says must be liquid gold… for satirists.

and therefore had to wait until the end,

I will never stop being amused by petty authoritarians getting incredibly pissy about the very notion that societal norms apply to them too as if they were one of the peons.

with less time to spare.

it’s the little bristling indignation that just make it, mwa, delicioso!

She even found time, using a pointed yes-or-no question, to puncture Democrats’ favorite dodge–namely, that helped Republicans improve Medicare Part D, even though they had opposed it. (Unlike Obamacare, Medicare Part D is voluntary, as Sebelius had to admit.)

Medicare Part D was something our tribe did and it was a massive scam that hurt real people for the sake of the profit margins of faceless corporations so it’s good.

Whereas Obamacare was something the hated other tribe did and it might help other people (while also increasing the profit margins of faceless corporations), therefore it is wrong and evil.

Why? Because, er… uh… FREEDOM! That’s why!

Hey, remember the days when freedom meant more than the freedom to be swindled out of your money?

No?

Neither do I.

Next, Ellmers turned to the fact that Obamacare makes consumers pay more for insurance they do not need

People don’t need health care.

What’s with that cough, you weakling? I want to see you pulling those lungs up by the bootstraps!

(much like being forced to buy a fancy car with all of the options, when a basic new car or used car would have been fine).

Oh, sorry, apparently we aren’t completely done with the “wah, wah, we’re not allowed to be outright scammed anymore” whining.

And no, it’s not any less insulting to our intelligence when it’s coming from someone receiving the best health care our country has to offer as part of her benefits serving as a United States congresswoman.

No, sorry, me and my lucky rabbit foot will just sit here and wait while you try and last minute fight for the right of insurance companies to outright rob us rather than merely rip us off. I’ll just try and not get anything too debilitating in the meantime.

Also… um, people aren’t a fucking car. There isn’t some fancy luxury gas-guzzling penismobile version of health care. You either have health care when you need it or you don’t. And the more potential options that health care covers, the less likely you are to not have it when you need it.

Cause see, when you buy a shitty car and it gets trashed, you can buy a new car. You can’t buy a new fucking life… well, us poor pricks can’t buy people’s lives like they are trading cards at least.

The ensuing exchange should be studied by Republicans for future reference. This is how it’s done:

Oh please, like you douchebags need practice being aggressively ignorant shitbirds with an inability to tell when they are having their ass handed to them.

Rep. Ellmers: You also brought up the issue, when you were in Kansas [as governor and health insurance commissioner], that you fought against discriminatory issues. Now I–you know, as far as the essential health benefits [of Obamacare], correct me if I’m wrong, do men not have to buy maternity coverage?

Really? Discrimination?

Oh noes, paying for maternity care is misandry! Well, maybe to the MRA douchebags of the world and their flowing mythologies about how the women of the world are sperm-jacking the holy father in order to force him to pay for child support while the government pays all their bills with the money made from stealing guns, but here in the real world, if the worst discrimination your little group can think of is “WAH WAH, I MIGHT HAVE TO BE IN THE SAME POOL AS THOSE PEOPLE”, you might, just might not know what the fuck that word means.

Sec. Sebelius: Policies will cover maternity coverage for young and healthy–

Rep. Ellmers: Including men?

Sec. Sebelius: Under 30-year-olds will have a choice also of a catastrophic plan which has no maternity coverage.

Rep. Ellmers: The men are required to purchase–

Sec. Sebelius: Well, an insurance policy has a series of benefits, whether you use them or not. And one of the benefits will be–

The concept of “insurance” is one that completely escapes them, isn’t it?

Well, I guess that’s consistent with their inability to grasp anything more complex than tying one’s shoes and frankly even there I have my doubts.

Hey, dipshits of the world, insurance means insurance. It means everyone is part of the same pool and you don’t just get to opt out of what you don’t personally plan on receiving.

See, here in the Cerberus poly family household, just like the poor abused single man in Rep. Ellmers example, we have no current long-term plans to have children and outside some serious medical intervention of the IVF variety, it is kinda sorta impossible for us to have them.

Additionally, unlike the douchebag of the example, we also won’t need his legally covered hard-on pills.

Similarly at the moment, I am not currently suffering from cancer, cardiac arrhythmia, or anything requiring emergency surgery, so by wingnut logic, why should anyone ever need to have those covered by their insurance companies. I mean, if it won’t affect me personally in this exact moment, then why the fuck should I have to pay for it. But Bob forbid something not be available the second I do need it!

Rep. Ellmers: And that is why the health care premiums are increasing this high, because we’re forcing them to buy things they will never need. Thank you, madam chairman.

No, insurance “premiums” are “increasing” this “high”, because some group of egocentric sociopaths thought it would be the best idea ever to pitch a never-ending shitfit at the very concept of health care, thus ensuring that superior, cheaper models like single payer were quickly abandoned for models that ensured the continued survival of our broken and predatory insurance industry.

Once more, if you don’t like the way the world looks when you win, maybe you should STOP WINNING!

Sec. Sebelius: The individual policies cover families. Men often do need maternity coverage for their spouses and for their families, yes.

Oh what’s that? Some of those much vaunted heterosexual white cismen might have those annoying family units that might have need for these services in the creation of new spawn to show off one’s virility?

PAH! Real conservatives know that caring about your broodmare and wanting to ensure her survival is how the fagrays penetrate your Mancave Fortress of Anxious Masculinity and turn you into a spacehomo!

Rep. Ellmers: Single male, age 32, does not need maternity coverage.

(Conservative impression) Oh, well, isn’t that a rather specific self-identification. So what you are saying is that you want the rest of us, the vast majority to give your tiny little group special treatment. Well, let me just get right on that, you special snowflake, you. (/conservative impression)

[Crosstalk]

Rep. Ellmers: To the best of your knowledge has a man ever delivered a baby?

Sec. Sebelius: I don’t think so.

Cough cough****.

Chair: The gentlelady’s time has expired.

[Laughter]

Childbirth is theft.

‘Shorter’ concept created by Daniel Davies and perfected by Elton Beard. That whistling sound is the credibility the “anti-choice” movement had left with moderates burying itself so deep it’s saying high to the Aether monument from the new Thor movie. We are aware of all Internet traditions.™

*What’s that? It’s actually called the ACA? No no no, you created a massive propaganda campaign to link his name with this bill in the hopes that by destroying it you could destroy him and now it turns out to be real despite your best efforts and a small improvement on what came before (not revolutionary, but better than the shit sandwich we are used to in some important small ways). So now you get to eat that name and watch as it becomes a lifetime badge of the man you hate. All thanks to your propaganda campaign.

I see Pennis can’t be arsed even pretending that he isn’t “justiceisserved” any more.

Does Ellmers or anyone really believe that the maternity coverage requirement will really be so objectionable that it will cause repeal where everything else has failed?

Millionaires are the only citizens left, aren’t they.

Ummmm, what the fuck? Are their separate standards for the menfolk’s policies and the womenses? Are their different policies for men and women?

I wonder whether Rep. Ellmers is equally incensed that she has to buy prostate and testicular cancer coverage.

We were somewhere around Damascus on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold. I remember saying something like “I feel a bit lightheaded; maybe you should drive….” And suddenly there was a terrible roar all around us and the sky was full of light……………..

“Never mind,” I said. “It’s your turn to drive.” I hit the brakes and aimed the Great Red Shark toward the shoulder of the highway. No point mentioning the light, I thought. The poor bastard will see it soon enough.

If as she points out they never have babies, how much of the premium does Rep. Ellmers think is funding the maternity care for 32yo single males she is so concerned about. Does she think the fund adds a coupla bucks to the bill on the off chance that one day one will? [even with the cough cough example]

I’ll tell you now, and believe me later…

Can any of these idiots trotting out this argument point out a single existing insurance plan that allows you to pick and choose what’s covered depending on what you’re planning to need, the way they seem to want?

*raises hand* Waiter, I’d like to remove coverage for these boner pills from my insurance plan. Why should I, a lesbian, pay for for some dude to get it up?

Oh wait, forgot about that patriarchy thing. My bad.

Luthe, didn’t I see you at a hootenanny in Milliways?

Also too, “so deep it’s saying high [sic] to the Aether monument”. Cerb, will that internets be carry-out or delivery?

I’m getting a physical soon and I’m fairly sure I’m going to need prostrate medication. I’d like to thank every female with health insurance for paying for a condition they can never contract so that I can get a break on my prostate pills. I think some congressman, preferably male, should subpoena Sibelius and make a big stupid fuss about that.

Of course, having women’s insurance cover prostate exams and erectile dysfunctions is perfectly justified…

Just revoke my canonization up there, please.

….. so it has been written, so let it be done …..

Well, now it’s done.

The ensuing exchange should be studied by Republicans for future reference. This is how it’s done:

they’re seriously proud of that exchange? that she had to wait for how long in the pecking order and this is what she comes up with? they do get that maternity coverage has been part of multiple health care plans since forever, right? she does get that if 32 year old single male gets a lady friend preggers, he could add her to his policy, right?

by all means, republicans, study and learn…and keep fucking that chicken…

Of course, the single 32 year old man is far more likely to wind up in the emergency room than your typical fertile female, so maybe we should be charging him more

Yeah, I am a heterosexual female who has no plans to have children and it never once occurred to me to call my insurance provider and insist on a rate cut because I didn’t intend to use any of the services from column OB.

I suspect if I did attempt such a thing and a wingnut were to hear of it, they would attack on the grounds I was a baby-hating anti-family liberal slutbag who has nothing better to do than harass a poor defenseless health insurance company.

Having said that, I lift my hands to the FSM and implore that it move the GOP to take this up as their new banner. It would be awesome. The only thing better would be if they started bitching because Sickle Cell Anemia isn’t specifically excluded from white people’s policies or cystic fibrosis from the policies of non-Ashkenazis.

I’m also going to schedule an eye exam so I can tell the difference between prostrate and prostate.

Speaking of the GOP and mothers, another blast from the past.

… Sickle Cell Anemia isn’t specifically excluded from white people’s policies  …

Long, long ago, I worked at the Texas Department of Health, in one of the labs. One of my cow-orkers had been working there long enough to acquire many … interesting stories. One was, while she was working in the blood lab, she had to call one of the site electricians for a repair. While there, they were chit-chatting, and he was asking about what that lab did. She told him they checked the blood samples they drew from newborns for things like sickle-cell and phenylketonuria (PKU), so they’d know right away and be able to do something, like make sure the kids with PKU stayed away from dairy products. The electrician said “Why check for sickle cell? Only niggers get it.” After considering any number of responses, she told him that sickle cell shows up in populations in areas where malaria is common, like parts of Italy. His response was “You mean people get it?”

The heartbreaking part was that this exchange probably took place in the 1970s. The really heartbreaking part is that such an exchange could still be happening.

Speaking of the GOP and mothers, another blast from the past.

Wow. I hadn’t realized they knew enough about the history of Mother’s Day to realize it started off as a feminist, anti-war day before it got so heavily commercialized. You’d think they were just being dicks or something.

If it weren’t for the massive profits the financial sector, i.e. the ur-capitalists, make out the insurance industry, the GOP dumbass squad might have realized that the entire welfare state concept was derived from insurance. They seem to be catching on now, at least they are attacking basic insurance concepts (pooled risk, shared benefits, etc.) as socialism or penis stealing or whatever.

But “gay rights” is different. With every expansion of “gay rights” comes a loss of freedom for others, particularly those who, whether for religious or purely rational reasons, refuse to acknowledge the functional and moral equivalency of homosexuality. It is a zero-sum-game, meaning when one side wins, the other loses. A baker or florist or photographer or reception hall owner who believes that homosexuality is wrong and does not want to offer his services to a homosexual wedding is now increasingly likely to be compelled to do so or face the loss of freedom to earn a living. Today people are facing the choice between whether to stay true to their beliefs or lend material support to a practice they regard as immoral.

That’s right, because treating other people with dignity is NOT A FUCKING OPTION.

VCarlson,

I remember a Tom Toles cartoon from back in the mid-eighties about the AIDS epidemic. Representative pin-heads were saying things like, “It only affects gays, drug users, hemophiliacs and Haitians. Thank god it doesn’t affect real people,” [Historical note: Haitians were initially seen as a high-risk group.] and “I know it’s fatal, but I don’t know if it’s serious.”

Same song, different verse.

whether for religious or purely rational reasons

Note the conspicuous absence of any rational reason. Just superstition, like the belief in ghosts and vampires.

A baker or florist or photographer or reception hall owner who believes that homosexuality is wrong and does not want to offer his services to a homosexual wedding is now increasingly likely to be compelled to do so or face the loss of freedom to earn a living.

this bit made me giggle…not just because of the ridiculousness of the falseness of the equivalency, but because when muslims use their religious freedom to decline dogs, alcohol or pork into their taxi cabs or refuse to handle certain supermarket products, not only is that backwards and if they really wanted to earn money, they would just suck it up, religion be damned…also, too the xiansists probably still think their religious freedoms are being suppressed by the people whose religious freedoms they are only too eager to suppress…

The tragically funny part is he’s making the exact same argument used by the bigotwads against the Civil Rights Act. Irony is dead, cremated, dumped in a blender and whirled with diarrhea.

Of course the welfare state is about insurance. It was insurance against communist revolution. The post WWII governments of Europe had to deal with a vigorous socialist and communist plurality whose answer to every social problem was to seize the means of production and pay for housing, food, and medical care from the revenues of state owned industries. In order to co opt the anger of the poor and (some of the) middle class, the welfare state was created to make sure that no matter how bad things got, the poor didn’t have to worry about food, shelter and medical care and education.

Irony is dead, cremated, dumped in a blender and whirled with diarrhea.

i’ve got to say, this isn’t one of your best food pr0ns…

Wow, Pup, read your Xtian buddy.
I had No Idea that the Gay Agenda (TM) had made such strides – now you homos can oppress and enslave people. “imperialistically” even. Impressive.

Btw, do you see a gay person when you look in the mirror?

Also, too, no religion ever supported racism. Excuse me, bud, does the Dutch Reformed Church (SA) not count as Xtian in your book?

right?! no muss, no fuss!

I still have to laugh at muslims and jews and their dietary restrictions. Pretty fucking silly. But that wouldn’t stop me from taking their money if I owned a reception hall.

I’m also going to schedule an eye exam so I can tell the difference between prostrate and prostate.

Proctometrist. He’ll stick his finger in your eye and have you drop trou to read the chart.

never mind that ethnicity is easily discernible by a quick look in the mirror whereas “sexual orientation” is often the agonizing question of many years, for some, and apparently ignores the normal conclusion of a look in the mirror

HA! It’s funny because every single one (to my knowledge) of them has and frequently still does.

the welfare state was created to make sure that no matter how bad things got, the poor didn’t have to worry about food, shelter and medical care and education.

You don’t have to be a historian to know what happens when you have a giant, starving underclass.

Hey VC, at least he considered Italians people!

never mind that ethnicity is easily discernible by a quick look in the mirror

An easy view to hold when your definition of ethnicity is either
Like Me, or
Auslander.

Helmut,

True, the post-war European welfare system was a way of keeping the commies at bay, though not the socialists who were in power as often as not. But even before 1945 unemployment insurance and social security were based on insurance, capitalist-style, minus the need for profits to justify itself. Shared risk helps everyone. Unless you’re a Republican asshole.

no religion ever supported racism

except for those that did, which of course he admits in the next sentence.

I know, right? It’s as if his thinking and lizard brains were both writing, each unaware of what the other was saying. He started off sounding rational, then got deeper and deeper into the underbrush of his bigotry.

I’ll just leave this here, with the caveats that a) it is SO FUCKING NSFW that it violates physical laws and b) you may wish to avoid eating within a 72 hour window before/after watching. Which said, it’s fucking heeeeee-larious.

More on moms vs. teh right.

I love it how the gun nutz repaired to a nearby Hooters after a couple of hours, where they posed for a photo op.

One word: Mormons.

Of course, someone who’d argue that probably wouldn’t consider LDS a religion in the first place.

Unless he is LDS, which just makes it all the more ironylicious.

This here too also, which is NSFW either but good too.

Btw, do you see a gay person when you look in the mirror?

You talkin ta me? No, I do not. I see a FABULOUS gay person.

This also also also, which is really pretty much safe but no money will be returned in case of brain damage.

In the midst of introducing a very nice takedown of Joe Scarborough, Mr. Pierce creates a very nice capsule description of St. Ronnie of Raygun*

Ronald Reagan, who gutted civil rights laws, started his campaign talking about “states rights” not far from the improvised graves of murdered civil-rights workers, made up stories about black bucks buying steaks and welfare queens with their Cadillacs, sold missiles to the people who bankrolled the killing of hundreds of our Marines, and then used the cash to bankroll his own terrorists in this hemisphere. Ah, the good old days.

*Among the many things I do not forgive that genial bad actor for is his highjacking of “Star Wars” for his SDI boondoggle.

I saw this little gem:

So he “assumed it was science” (correctly) until he got results he didn’t like. Then it was just propaganda.

Science also basically says that we’re related in some way, albeit distantly. The very idea of race purity is total fallacy.

Race purity: Propaganda
DNA: Science

Funny how the best rebuttal of white supremacy is a white supremacist.

I wonder if Mr. Cobb would refer to persons such as himself as “mustefino,”  “quintroon,” or “hexadecaroon.” Those, or some other similarly charming term.

I also love how Mr. Cobb gives the lie to Dr. John Carpenter (from Pup’s “gay is theft” link) and his charming assertion that “ethnicity is easily discernible by a quick look in the mirror.”

Followed a discussion somewhere else where the wingnut was trying to argue about all the “unwanted” benefits people would be forced to buy, like women who would be “forced” to buy coverage for prostate cancer.

Um…it’s not like a list you can check off the specific procedures you want or don’t want. Like you can pick coverage for lung cancer but not stomach cancer. It’s coverage for cancer treatment. Period.

Their logic is sort of like a one-legged man arguing he should only pay half the premium for covering treatment for broken legs.

I know, it means the rich people win the game! Right?

You might ask that of Louis XVI

A baker or florist or photographer or reception hall owner who believes that homosexuality is wrong and does not want to offer his services to a homosexual wedding is now increasingly likely to be compelled to do so or face the loss of freedom to earn a living

They want to be able to turn away business, and don’t want to lose their freedom to earn a living from it????

Peter Cook: Now, Mr. Spiggott, you, a one-legged man, are applying for the role of Tarzan.

Dudley Moore: Yes, right.

Peter Cook: A role traditionally associated with a two-legged artiste.

Dudley Moore: Yes, correct, yes, yes.

Peter Cook: And yet you, a unidexter… are applying for the role.

Dudley Moore: Yes, right, yes.

Peter Cook: A role for which two legs would seem to be the minimum requirement. Well, Mr. Spiggott, need I point out to you with overmuch emphasis where your deficiency lies as regards landing the role?

Dudley Moore: Yes, I think you ought to.

Peter Cook: Perhaps I ought, yes. Need I say with, uh, too much stress that it is in the, uh, leg division that you are deficient.

Dudley Moore: The leg division?

Peter Cook: The leg division, Mr. Spiggott. You are deficient in the leg division to the tune of one. Your right leg I like. It’s a lovely leg for the role. As soon as I saw it come in, I said, “Hello! What a lovely leg for the role!”

Dudley Moore: Ah!

Peter Cook: I’ve got nothing against your right leg.

Dudley Moore: Ah!

Peter Cook: The trouble is — neither have you. [delayed applause] You, uh, you fall down on the left.

The Koch-supported geniuses at Generation Opportunity have just scored another awesome PR coup:

Marketing genius

Create a creepy Uncle Sam surrogate figure to scare young women away from “Obamacare,” then encourage the same target market to get drunk and party with him!

The group threw a tailgate party during the University of Miami-Virginia Tech football that featured flashy cars, drinking games, models, a DJ, and plenty of “educational” material about why young people shouldn’t take advantage of Obamacare.

what? no guns?

also, the flashy cars were hummers…the douchiest of vehicles

There were hot girls and a creep in Uncle Sam cosplay.

I’m sold. NO INSURANCE FOR ME

There were hot girls and a creep in Uncle Sam cosplay.

wait…i thought we were NOT supposed to encourage young ladies to drink…especially in the company of creepers…

Here’s a cool comment:

Steven Tanner, yes it did. Great book by Jonah Goldberg called “Liberal Fascism”. Now considered a modern classic.

Modern classic. Like a Stephen King novel, yes?

wait…i thought we were NOT supposed to encourage young ladies to drink…especially in the company of creepers…

Um, NO, it’s Uncle Sam. Not a LEGITIMATE rape, see? Do I have to explain EVERYTHING to you?

Binge drink and eat unhealthy food to show you don’t need health insurance!

What next, they could sponsor an extreme sports activity. “Break your legs to show you don’t need health insurance!” The possibilities are endless!

“Break your legs to show you don’t need health insurance!”

OH GOD PLEASE LET THIS HAPPEN

Do I have to explain EVERYTHING to you?

Um…it’s not like a list you can check off the specific procedures you want or don’t want. Like you can pick coverage for lung cancer but not stomach cancer. It’s coverage for cancer treatment. Period.

Come now, g. Shirley you know in advance which diseases & injuries you will later incur, allowing you to save for medical treatment for just those diseases & injuries. Doesn’t everyone? Isn’t that how insurance works in your universe?

Isn’t that how insurance works in your universe?

I was looking forward to being denied coverage because that sniffle I had at age 5 counted as a pre-existing condition.

Hummers symbolize what the Kock Brothers expect from the world. IF you know what I mean AND I think you do.

My universe blows.

Mine too. Large chunks.

Of course, it’s more than possible would you look that up for me? is a “modern classic” in the speaker’s hermetically sealed universe. Instead of coming to this website, why don’t you just eat shit and die?

James O’Keefe, the gorilla vidographer who drove Andrew Brietbart to death is back! Who will die of a drug overdose mysterious cause in the middle of the street because of an O’Keefe-induced lawsuit this time? Sarah Palin? I hope it’s Sarah Palin.

Hey, can we use this opportunity to give the MARKETS! neoliberal ass-sweat for brains shitbags another kick?

Yes, of course premiums are going down for the majority of Exchange users. And yes, when you add in the subsidies, the slice of folks that are paying more is both minuscule and also with enough resources to absorb the cost. Very sensible system.

Here’s where it fucks up. The folks paying more? Young people with healthy incomes. A category which includes a lot of folks in media. People with disproportionate ability to communicate with others. Excellent. And also, basing people’s savings on a subsidy? Great. Them fuckwads talking about “sticker shock” aren’t actually lying. The price tag has increased. Sure most folks will still pay less, but as if that fine distinction is going to make news coverage.

Could you neoliberals have designed a more demonizable system if you tried?

Obamacare navigator “Jamesvon Okeephe”, a self-described “vote frauding America-hater who loves government handouts, dawg,” was caught on film saying that, “I’m going to set up an Obamacare child prostitution ring, yo.”

Wasn’t this whole thing designed by insurance companies? Bound to be demonizable.

Also, too, even with all the purging this blog needs to cut down on the carbs. All this pasta will have it looking like Pavarotti.

As Oregon goes, so goes the nation.

n Oregon, officials defend their decision to not open for online enrollment, saying the website is producing inaccurate determinations on tax credits and other government assistance. The technical problems have prompted a massive push to enroll Oregonians by Dec. 15 using old-fashioned application forms.

Sigh. The President said people who liked their insurance policies could keep them.

He just didn’t say that people who had a bizarre and unhealthy fixation on their non-insurance policies would continue to be able to be fleeced.

It’s not a comparison between a Chevy and a Porche, it’s the comparison between a Chevy and an AMC Gremlin that was fished out of a post-Katrina swamp, had the odometer rolled back, and the airbags pried out and sold.

Since I’m presently considering either losing a precious day off or losing the post I’ve had for ten years to move to one that pays slightly less shite wages just to keep my head above water, it goes without saying that a sincere river of purple wee-wee straight from my achey-breaky heart goes out to each & every well-off American that is now oppressed by the totalitarian fist of actually having to pull a bit more of their fucking civic dead-weight than ususal. Let them rest assured that in my heart I will N3VAR F0RG3T this unspeakable Premium Increase Shoah as perpetrated by the new History’s Greatest Monster himself, Baryshnikov Soetero Schickelgruber.

So much GRAR & FUD over premiums as either Stalin 2.0 or a social victory in a nation that’s an epic global resource nexus sure pins the ol’ DaliMeter™. The one ACA-related statistic I’m VERY interested in is preventable Yankee deaths – it was 57,000 or so per annum in the Old Normal regime as I recall reading. Those weren’t the days, if you were on the wrong end of the stick: maximum profit prerogative + anti-trust exemption = “Set those Death Panels to Cull, boys! It’s dividend reapin’ time! FUCK YEAH!!!”

Obama’s did.

The Obama administration is not going to carve out an exemption for the insurance companies selling the kind of high deductible, never-covers-anything insurance policies that people are losing. Obama got re-elected largely on the strength of the ACA. His election was a referendum on that success. His opponents didn’t want any kind of national health care plan at all. They are like a person complaining that the FDA won’t let them buy patent medicine made from snake oil and mercury anymore.

They are like a person complaining that the FDA won’t let them buy patent medicine made from snake oil and mercury anymore.

it’s true…their freedom to be dumbasses and get fleeced of their own free will is more important than our freedom to not get fleeced…

The Obama administration is not going to carve out an exemption for the insurance companies selling the kind of high deductible, never-covers-anything insurance policies that people are losing

Nobody should have ever had insurance like that in the first place.

If an insurance company can’t meet the new regulations, then it will go where it belongs. In the dead company dumpster.

Democrats could never hope to love Jesus Obama as much as Republicans love St. Ronald Reagan.

NEVER REMEMBER

Just a reminder, insurance companies did indeed have an exemption under “if you like your plan”. These were grandfathered in. It’s the insurance companies that are canceling those plans.

It’s the insurance companies that are canceling those plans.

This fact tends to escape all of the news media coverage.

Most of the people paying $400/month for pretty shitty coverage can get the same coverage for less. If they have a higher income, they might be paying more for it. My heart weeps for their tribulation.

Buh buh but Obama wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiied to meeeeeeeeeeeeee

Oh, yeah? So what are you going to do about it, you goddamned baby? Spend the rest of your life whining on the internet?

Oh, wait, that’s exactly what you’re going to do. My condolences to your parents for raising such a sad sack of shit.

It’s just not fair. When their president lied they got two wars out of it. It was like Christmas and their birthday rolled together without getting stiffed on the presents. When Obama described the health care plan he was crafting, two years in advance of the plan getting passed, the people who hate Obama, and everything he stands for feel betrayed because now they have to buy health insurance that isn’t bullshit or pay a nominal fee. And truly, to the people that oppose Obama, that is worse than slavery.

Just a reminder, insurance companies did indeed have an exemption under “if you like your plan”. These were grandfathered in. It’s the insurance companies that are canceling those plans.

The only thing in the ACA that caused those people to lose their plans is the ACA requires the insurance companies to sell insurance plans.

The completely heterosexual Michael Brown:

The article’s headline was absolutely shocking: “Maryland Middle School Requires Children To Cross Dress For ‘LGBTQ Appreciation Day’,” and not surprisingly, the article quickly went viral.

The good news is that it was a hoax.

The bad news is that it was so close to reality, most readers took it seriously, and it was only after I read a few paragraphs into the article that I realized it wasn’t true. This is a case of fiction being frighteningly close to the truth.

Unfortunately, there was enough in the article that sounded plausible for many people to believe every word of it, even though it got progressively outrageous.

oooooorrrr…your readers are so used to your ‘sky is falling’ non-stop freakout they they can no longer distinguish between reality and bullshit…

A concerned mother sent me the link, asking if I had seen it, and when I replied that I believed it to be a hoax, she said that she had initially believed it because of what she had already seen in her children’s schools. It hardly seemed over the top to her.

After all, back in May, it was reported that, “Parents of students at a Wisconsin elementary school are up in arms over the theme ‘Gender Bender Day’.” Yes, “Tippecanoe School for the Arts and Humanities in Milwaukee recently celebrated School Spirit Week with a series of events for students in kindergarten through eighth grades . . . . Members of the student council chose Friday as ‘Gender Bender Day,’ a voluntary event that called for boys to dress like girls and girls to dress like boys.”

This time, the story was not a hoax.

da…da…dah!!! omfg…rly? like this sort of harmless hijinx has not been going on since students have had a ‘school spirit week’…

can these kind of people actually get through a day without shitting themselves?

also, too, if your kid is going to an ‘arts and humanities’ school, would dressing up days really be that mind-blowing?

My guess is “they” wouldn’t let their kids within spitting distance of an “arts and humanities” school.

Hmm. My school – a regular ol’ HS in the sticks had gender bender days. WTF.

If you think that was funny you are a horrible person!

Let’s see, an insurance company screws up, and this is the fault of the ACA.

There is a simple solution:

Single-payer healthcare.

Oh, and short the widows and orphans. That’s the Republican way.

OMG, look at Obama’s poll numbers!
Now how will he EVER win a third term in 2016?!?!?!?!?

You know, even if a guy I thought was a hopelessly shitty president like GW Bush was trying to implement this system and all these insurance cancellations came out, I would still have brains enough to understand that the insurance companies that don’t want to or can’t comply with the law would be dropping people.

I’d look at it the same way I look at it now–that a market based system that relies on an individual mandate is a stupid way to do it. Open enrollment to Medicare and state run Medicaid supplements, better regulation of the entire provider industry, better education, better food regulation, better treatment for mental illness and addiction (especially cigarettes) all contribute toward a healthy and educated population, which keeps us on a competitive footing with the rest of the world. It’s about priorities, and our priorities at the federal level have been pretty fucked up for a long time.

The point is–Obama is a pretty crappy president too, but at least he is trying to do something about an inarguably unsustainable problem with health care. This isn’t going to fix the problem, but it does mitigate it to some extent. I don’t like defending it, but I don’t like the idea of going back to the fucked up system we had (which was a total lack of a system).

this morning at a policy meeting we were discussing flu vaccines and whether they should be mandatory for all personnel…one person asked why employees were just not getting them now and the answer was that it infringes on personal freedom and the mindset is ‘you can’t tell me what to with my own health’…nevermind that a large bulk of these employees work at the long-term care facility where their stubborness and selfishness literally put the people they are caring for at risk: they see it as something being done the THEM and don’t consider what THEY are doing to the larger community…for the greater good is getting to be more and more of a foreign concept…

It doesn’t help that the anti-vaccine bullshit artists are gaining traction with the help of idiot celebrities.

Auggh! Rank and file health professionals complaining about mandatory vaccinations? Where the hell did they get qualified to work in the health industry? I work in IT, and I have to admit we don’t hire Luddites or the Amish, because they can’t or won’t do the job. Anyone who had an IT job and suddenly rejected technology would be out the door. Firefighters can’t refuse to fight fires, coal miners gotta go into the mine, regardless if they are scared of the dark, antenna riggers still have to climb, even if they are scared of heights. How the hell do people think they can reject the conclusions of every non-crackpot public health professional since the germ theory of disease was validated and still keep their jobs?

Heck, if they went to Medicare for all, pointing out that they tried it the GOP way and it didn’t work because, like the scorpion, the Health Insurance Industry just couldn’t not sting everybody to death, I might even buy into the eleventy dimensional chess thing.

Not gonna happen, because this country has become a festering demonstration of how the Right Wing way doesn’t work, but they keep successfully insisting it be “tried.”

I don’t know when we became a society that allows three-year-olds free rein, but we have. What with allowing (and encouraging) instant gratification in our companies with the obsession with short-term gain over long-term planning and stamping our feet and refusing to take our flu shots/immunizations because the grownups told us we had to, we have, as a nation, become very toddler-like. A toddler with the potential to destroy the world in a fit of rage, unfortunately.

Auggh! Rank and file health professionals complaining about mandatory vaccinations? Where the hell did they get qualified to work in the health industry? I

Same place pharmacists who refuse to fill prescriptions because they think you’ve been doing something they disapprove of, and hospitals refusing to perform life-saving procedures for the same reason did, I guess.

one person asked why employees were just not getting them now and the answer was that it infringes on personal freedom and the mindset is ‘you can’t tell me what to with my own health’

Also, no. If you want to work in the industry, you cannot just endanger the lives of the elderly and immune deficient patients in your care. The flu is not a cold or bronchial infection. It’s still a highly contagious killer.

we have, as a nation, become very toddler-like.

That’s far from limited to our own nation in any way, but yes.

We are toddler like in that we want the world what we want it to be instead of facing the reality of what it is. Guns are a good example. People think there should be no gun regulations, but fail to recognize that the minimal restrictions that are currently in place exist as a response to a problem. All social programs, regulations and laws are a response to dangerous human behavior. Right wingers view that the same way a kid views being told he/she cannot sit and eat an entire bag of Oreos before dinner. There’s a GOOD reason for that, but the kid views it as a personal inconvenience or infringement on the right to eat a bag of cookies.

When you join the military you get a pretty hefty battery of shots. Trying to refuse one or any of those would cause your day to ruined with extreme prejudice.

When you join the military you get a pretty hefty battery of shots.

And every time you step into a mobility line to deploy somewhere they stick you with a bunch more.

One of them, I forget if it was the typhoid or yellow fever vaccine, felt like you’d been punched in the arm for days after you got the shot.

Also, no. If you want to work in the industry, you cannot just endanger the lives of the elderly and immune deficient patients in your care. The flu is not a cold or bronchial infection. It’s still a highly contagious killer.

there is a facility in our area who does terminate employees if they do not get flu shots…my offering was some sort of identifier for those that don’t get vaccinated…like a neon bright tee shirt that says, ‘don’t come near me…i didn’t get my flu shot!’ or something like that…one option admin says is on the table is making those who didn’t get one wear a mask while at work…

felt like you’d been punched in the arm for days after you got the shot.

I remember that one. Constant ache in the muscle.

I remember that one. Constant ache in the muscle.

I have a mild allergy to something in regular flu shots that does that to me, but I still get one every year. Getting the flu really fucking sucks. Intentionally refusing the vaccine and getting somebody else sick is damn near criminal.

Hey, sorry aboot teh late LEAFS SUCK Update but I’m lazy. I mean, I had some moms to do.

Anyways, first Council meeting since the “I smoke crack” admission and here’s what we had:
Rob Ford has a zero tolerance policy on crime and hard drugs.
Rob Ford has purchased illegal drugs within the past two years, i.e. as mayor.
Rob Ford will not resign, nor even take a leave of absence despite Council voting 37-5 in favour of a resolution requiring him to.
Yes, there are LEAFS SUCK councillors who are still voting for Rob Ford at this point. Other than brother Doug.
And that was all during the Council meeting which, despite the acrimonious exchanges, was not the main show. The main show was the components of the various search warrants released earlier that got unredacted.

Also too, a professor of labour and employment law weighs in with some interseting insights.

“If Ford were an employee, he’d have been fired for cause by now,” the professor told me later.

“This is really a point I want my students to grasp – we hold politicians to a much lower standard of accountability for their conduct than we do a Wal-Mart cashier or McDonald’s burger flipper.”

But he also cites an interesting, and little understood, fact: Alcoholics and drug addicts are deemed “disabled” under human rights law, and, thus, can’t be the target of discrimination, including, generally, termination.

Ford’s insistence that he is not an addict, but that sure he smoked crack and has bought illegal drugs in the recent past – that would be the thing which justifies firing him. Sadly, we know that when conservatives complain about government not being run like a business what they mean is “I would sell my own mother for a tax cut”.

That prof’s blog post on it is all hyperlinked up and an interesting read.

Sure, they can’t fire Rob Ford, but is “Head on a pike” an option under Canadian law?

They’re far too polite for that. Best one could hope for is a print of his steatosic mug pasted on a stick. GROW A PAIR CANADA

Tee hee. “If Sarah Palin’s this shocked by Pope Francis, she’ll be catatonic when she finally gets round to reading about Jesus in the New Testament.”

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/sarah-palin-fears-liberal-pope-francis-being-influenced-by-the-sneering-media-8937069.html

Here’s another odd insight. The Mayor of LEAFS SUCK is a shitty shitty job. One vote out of 45. Largest popular mandate of any elected position in the country but unable to accomplish jack without the support of Council.

Ford’s first year was very productive – he swept into power from a massive underdog position and was viewed as having a lot of political clout due to his control over “Ford Nation”. But Rob Ford is a totally useless idiot, unable to compromise or negotiate or even come close to finding a consensus position on anything. Essentially, a totally useless mayor – despite having this large block of people so enthralled in his personality cult that they would stick by him even if he were a crackhead.

In the glory days pre-“I have smoked crack cocaine”, it was all about pandering to the personality cult. Thus we have plenty of Rob and Tim and Stephen stories. There’s all sorts of photos and stories tying the conservative leaders of my city, province and country together. And now Rob continues to circle in his much reported death spiral, a continuing train wreck that will hold media attention so long as he hangs onto the chains of office Burning the conservative brand with each passing revelation of hookers and blow.

So, I kinda want Rob to stay on as mayor for as long as he can.

Just to clarify, Tim Hudak is the leader of the provincial conservatives (although no one including Hudak knows why), not the conservative leader of Ontario. We still have a Liberal provincial government.

Oh also, polling since the admission has finally been released. Rob Ford’s approval numbers have dropped back to pre-Scarborough Subway levels at 40%, which is still higher than Obama’s (but within the margin of error).

The Scarborough Subway had an incremental cost (over LRT) of something like $2.5 billion (and at least five years delay and significant impacts to the rest of the transit network). $2.5 billion is a pretty fucking steep price for a 5% polling bump that lasts for one week almost a full year before the election.

One other thing about that poll which shows how stupid us LEAFS SUCKians are. 40% approval rating despite (and this is all in the same poll) 74% who believe he shouldn’t be mayor.

From Pup’s “sneering media” link (http://www.independent.co.uk/news/sarah-palin-fears-liberal-pope-francis-being-influenced-by-the-sneering-media-8937069.html), I love me the following quote:

Sarah Palin made the comments about the ‘liberal’ Pope as part of a promotion for her new Christmas book.

This one kind of sums it up, though:

Radio 4 presenter Tom Sutcliffe summed it up on Twitter as: “Christianist baffled by an encounter with Christianity.”

Really, the lack of awareness this woman consistently shows is mind boggling.

Heh, I dithered which quote to use – they’re both so good.

I gave up. I’m having a private viewing of Red Dawn 2012. (We could have watched it together, ya know.)

It’s fascist, stupid, movie-like, and unwatchable but, yo!, bitches, Red Dawn 2012 is the goo pulled out of a grinder bun.

Best line for Red Dawn 2012: “I love you both, I hope you know that.”

Red Dawn 2012 needs Obamacare and, oh, a script but: Wolverines! I made it to the end–so you don’t have to.

New post.

I’m trying another new experiment, so we’ll see how it works out.
