“U.S. Headed for a Hollow Military?”

  • It looks like the traitors in Congress and Black Jimmy Carter are going to end my game of Risk, just when I was about to take China, Mali, Syria, Iran, and Kamchatka.

‘Shorter’ concept created by Daniel Davies and perfected by Elton Beard. We are aware of all Internet traditions.™

This putz isn’t qualified to find his ass with a flashlight. Ugh.

THAT FOOL! Everyone knows you have to take Kamchatka FIRST!

How anyone thinks we can chop defense spending at a time likes this EVAR is beyond me; but that is where Washington is heading. The result is likely to be, heaven help us, another “hollow” military like the one in the post-Vietnam years in the 1970s.

Fixxored that for ya, Max. It’s almost like silly liberals don’t know that military money is special money completely separate from all other economic conditions. It can only be increased never decreased, or babby Jeebus cries and John McCain’s viagra stops working and then the world ends.

And Irkutsk is the key!

another “hollow” military like the one in the post-Vietnam years in the 1970s

How many times was America invaded during that time of military weakness?

Meh. Not much to comment except that the article studiously avoids making any reference to any hard numbers at all, let alone where they’ll be cut and how it’ll affect our global posture. IOW, nothing to see here but the usual amount of ado about nothing.

And wow! “A hollow military just like in the post-Vietnam era,” huh? You mean the era when we were ensuring the defense of Western Europe and a dozen nations in the Pacific while still propping up half the governments in the third world with military aid and advisers? My God! Where’ll we go? What’ll we do? How will we ever manage to provide for the common defense with such a puny army? Jesus, do you realize that if this happens, the total combined military spending of Europe, Russia, China, Japan and India might actually begin to approach our own?

“A hollow military just like in the post-Vietnam era,”

I think that’s just a dog whistle for “Jimmy Carter is a wimpy faggy fagster that never did anything right and was the worst preznit ever (well until this Broncobama guy showed up) and thank gawd Saint Ronnie of Didnowrong saved us from teh commies without never raising taxes or letting any barracks be blowded it up and cutting and running or anything!”

How anyone thinks we can chop defense spending at a time likes this is beyond me…

A time likes what? Is there ever a good time for these guys?

Max appears to be missing his sammich.

There is nothing to stop Boot donating all his spare change to the US military if he thinks it’s underfunded.

The International Hoplology Society (there really is one) would give him the Max Boot possible.

I think “The Shoveller” looks a lot like McCrankypants.

There is nothing to stop Boot donating all his spare change to the US military if he thinks it’s underfunded.

Or volunteer to fight gratis.

They wheel out that “hollow force” line every time there’s a Democrat in the White House.

They said the same thing when Clinton was President.

I appreciate the snark as much as anybody but idiots like Max Boot (which sounds like a made-up name like Rip Torn or Dick Hedd) don’t realize that the security of this country fundamentally depends on robust economic well-being. Otherwise, we can’t support our bloated military. So resources need to be radically shifted to physical, IT and social infrastructure investment, which is never going to come from the private sector. Secondly, the world is never going to fight WW II anymore and so we need a leaner, craftier military not the traditional hugely bureaucratic, clumsy and expensive toys-dependent military. The US military is also starting to become a statistically significant cause of global warming – that’s how much gobsmacking fuel it uses.

You mean the era when we were ensuring the defense of Western Europe and a dozen nations in the Pacific while still propping up half the governments in the third world with military aid and advisers?

Yes. Like when Germany had the largest concentration of nuclear weapons in the world (land-wise) and they were all OURS. How can we keep the world safe if we can’t impose ourselves on nations for their own good, and threaten to burn it all down for everyone’s safety? It’s unthinkable. We need military power sufficient to control our pussy allies, doncha know?

How anyone thinks we can chop defense spending at a time likes this is beyond me…

A time like this with the Cold War over, the Soviet Empire gone, and the Terrorist Mastermind behind 9/11 dead?

Is there a Martian invasion coming that I didn’t hear about?

Every single game of Risk I’ve ever seen ends up in terrible bloody warfare in Western Australia and Thailand.

Stupid Max Boot. Everybody knows Madagascar is the key to the game in RISK.

I always liked having Australia in Risk because it had an easily defendable border and you could stack all of your troops in one country. And if you could take Siam, that gave you a buffer zone and prevented someone else from taking Asia.
