Wow, what was even the point of that? “Hey, somebody on TV made a little fun of Harry Reid, let me repeat the whole bit as if it were comedy gold!” Uh, yeah. Anyway, I’m surprised anyone could make out what Boehner said through the sobs.

well, i can’t help but wonder how brent feels about all this ‘f’ word being bandied about…on his own website!!!

Anyway, I’m surprised anyone could make out what Boehner said through the sobs.

yes, an orange man who cries repeatedly in public is more manly than harry reid…amazing…

Now that we are pointing out who looks like they did what or had what done to them in high school, may I point out that Bill O’Reilly looks like he pummeled his Jewish classmates because “you killed Jesus”. Sean Hannity too, also.

All the while, Nooners pined for that manly man, Bill O’ to notice her.

Boehner, Obama and Reid: Three enemies of the United States of America working in concert to bring about its destruction and doing a fine job. With these three, who needs foreign enemies? God save us from such evil men and dispatch them to the nether regions reserved for the devil and all evil ones. God save the U.S.A.

‘i’m good enough, i’m smart enough and, doggone it, people like me!’

Doesn’t surprise me that Wingnuts think Leno is hilarious.

Relatively little has been discovered about the cause of the condition since its initial identification. Recent studies from the empirical data are prone to consider anosognosia a multi-componential syndrome or multi-faceted phenomenon. That is it can be manifested by failure to be aware of a number of specific deficits, including motor (hemiplegia), sensory (hemianaesthesia, hemianopia), spatial (unilateral neglect), memory (dementia), and language (receptive aphasia) and, most notably, humor due to impairment of anatomo-functionally discrete monitoring systems wingnuttia.

Interestingly a non-rotten mango:

The way the press handled the last Congress, you would have thought the Republicans controlled both chambers rather than just the House.

I’m not quite sure this was entirely the case (and part of the problem was that for a while the President was acting like McConnell was the Senate Majority Leader and not Reid), but still, at this point even the rotten-mango-wallowers of the right have gotta realize that the media ain’t liberal. They gotta realize at least that, right?

Meanwhile, I betcha the media will soon go back to their usual “Ebil Nancy Pelosi is dictating everyone’s agenda” spin soon.

Still, I think part of why the right is so angry at Obama is that the media has given him somewhat of a pass. Certainly they don’t treat him with the same deference they treat GOoPer presidents, but they are treating him far better than they treated Clinton. And that must bug the heck out of the right: having spent so much time, effort and money to yank the media right-ward and the media still won’t go after B. Barry Mbama like they went after Clinton.

As much as I admire and respect Bill Clinton, he didn’t exactly make it hard for his enemies to come after him. Obama is treated better because he behaves better.

ahahahahahahahahahahahaha! you sooooo funneh!

As much as I admire and respect Bill Clinton, he didn’t exactly make it hard for his enemies to come after him

i still struggle with my feelings towards bill…he totally flipping had me with his nom speech and i adored hime right up until he started debating the finer points of ‘is’…i would have respected him a LOT more if he would have just owned that he bagged monica instead of looking directly in the camera and saying, ‘i did not have sexual relations with that woman’

christ, the thing i admired the most about him was that he totally got women and what working women and mothers go through…that he slept/sleeps around didn’t matter to me as long as he wasn’t being shitty about it and denying it…

wow…lynn ketelsen of ‘the linder farm network’ fame, just said on the air that ‘you know those russians, they drink all day…’ and then reported the the biggest cause of death in russian men was cirrhosis of the liver and average age of death was 40…wow, and here i thought the most controversial thing i’d here on teh farm report was that ‘there’s a little dryness down there…’

Reid served as chairman of the Nevada Gaming Commission from 1977 to 1981. When Jack Gordon, LaToya Jackson’s future agent and husband, offered Reid a $12,000 bribe to approve new games for casinos, Reid brought in the FBI to tape Gordon’s bribery attempt and arrest him. After FBI agents interrupted the transaction, as prearranged, Reid lost his temper and began choking Gordon, saying “You son of a bitch, you tried to bribe me!”

So, former boxer/footballer who is also crazy enough to try to strangle you while the FBI is watching? Boehner better watch his oompa loompin’ back is all I’m saying.

Blog-pimping: The Major has a recent (20 Dec) diary titled Touring Verdun, an important WWI battlefield. Informative, thoughtful, reflective, illustrated with 14 well-selected photos. (Bonus: The lengthy Comments include fine contributions from a number of intelligent and informed readers.) Highly Recommended !!!

Major: I like the way you are using the Diaries as a blog-like platform. I also share your unusual interest in WWI.

Have you read John Keegan’s The Face of Battle? He puts three battles under the analytic microscope: Agincourt, Waterloo, and The Somme. Leads off with a brilliant essay on military historiography (“the history of history”) and inherent gaps, inadequacies, and flaws in the time-honored ‘Battle Piece’ description of close tactical combat, illustrated by excerpts from two historians’ (Napier and Chandler) descriptions of famous episodes in two Napoleonic battles (Salamanca and Eylau). Anyway, I’m sure Keegan’s close analysis of The Somme would interest you…even though it is depressing stuff to read.

Also terrific historical fiction in Solzhenitsyn’s August 1914 about the destruction of Samsonov’s Second Army at Tannenburg. The central character is a supernumery Russian Staff Colonel.

Also this ‘short note’ is way getting out-of-control; I’d better turn off the spigot right now. Anyway, great diary, Major.

As much as I admire and respect Bill Clinton, he didn’t exactly make it hard for his enemies to come after him.

Actually, they went to extraordinarily lengths to get him, repeatedly abusing their authorities to do so. Starr’s Whitewater Report said almost nothing about banking in Arkansas, but was a masterpiece of Puritan porn. A Congressional majority filled with lying adulterers impeached him for not chasing boys, and ol’ Strom voted to remove him from office for banging a white girl. Meanwhile, our elite media knew all about Gingrich and Bisek, covering for that fat fucker the entire time. Blaming Clinton for that cesspool of filth and sleaze is victim-blaming at its very worst.

It’s my understanding that, when he said that, he was using the definition of “sexual relations” provided by Paula Jones’ own lawyers. Also, too, tensor* made points I would’ve made if I hadn’t started planning this comment before (a) seeing eir comment and (b) having breakfast.

High there, y’all.

I’ve been working on the Clean Slate ‘articles’ for Sadlyburg…and plural they must be: There is a boxcar of background material that must be clearly explained before I describe the Clean Slate CPX itself. Like, for example, what is a CPX? (Oooog. This is going to take longer than I thought.) The more I wrestle with the necessary set-up material, the more I appreciate the remarkable clarity and accessibility of the Major’s diaries.

My google-search keywords will prolly flag me in some daft NSA data-mining filter: I’ve been bopping around an alphabet soup of SpecOps commands (SOCOM, JSOC); special units (SEALs, Rangers, Special Forces), and special weapons (e.g. the Air Force’s AC-130 Spectre gunship.)

At the moment, I’ve got a google-earth map of Kharg Island on the screen–an important Iranian(*) oil-handling and storage facility. (Hope to include link as a visual aid for describing the Clean Slate plan.)

(*) The data-miners might semi-freak on Kharg alone, given current political, military, and financial tensions involving Iran. I hope the rotten timbers of the Surveillance State shafts utterly collapse, burying the data-miners completely.

There’s somethin’ happening here, but you don’t know what it is, do you Mr. Jones?

To my everlasting shame, I voted for Clinton in the Bush/Perot election. (Btw, the first and only time the candidate I voted for won the Presidency.) In the first two years of his presidency Clinton (and Rahmbo) engineered the DLC’s complete take-over the of the Democratic Party, and began to pull it rightward….and it has been going rightward ever since, ladies and gents.

Bill fooled me, but at least I saw through him fairly early…even before ‘triangulation’ entered the political category…and w-a-y before Lewinsky. I changed my and took to the hills with Guerrilla Voters Cadre 18. The DLC poisoned the Democratic Party and only its pale, transparent ghost remains.

And his policies as President were never what I would call liberal. He was yet another corporate stooge.

Nonetheless, by 2008 I was looking back upon his term as President with fondness…. dubya was such a corrupt fucktard he made Clinton look like a populist intellectual.

Major: I’ve wasted an hour looking at Diego Garcia at max expansion. Looks to me like (2012) image shows 7 x B-52 and 6 x KC-135 tankers parked on the giganitic apron (or hardstand or whatever you zoomies call it) just north of runway 31. Also found the basefield fields, tennis courts, and outdoor swimming pool at the NE corner of the island; so I’m guessing that’s were most of DG’s quarters were. 5 x huge (oil-tanker size) transports anchored in the atoll. Multiple tank farms, ginormous warehouses, radoms, dockyard: Lordy, it’s hard to believe they could stuff so many facilities onto an tiny atoll.

I never get tired of trying to puzzle out military installations! (One of the things I did a bit of during my service.) I think I’ve located out the AF munitions storage complex. Dunno.

+1 to that. At least when centrist Republicans get elected as Democrats (Clinton, Obama), they make an effort to give the 99% something.

And +1 to Chris. Even stipulating bbkf’s basic point that cheating on Hillary was a phenomenal dick move on Bill’s part, he still managed to be classier about it than Snoot, Henry “Youthful Indiscretion” Hyde, Bob Livingston, et cetera ad vomitam.

We almost had to evacuate Guam for a typhoon. We were just about to take off for Okinawa when the typhoon turned away. Too bad. I really wanted to go to Okinawa.

Clinton has many faults, but “greed” was never a motivation for him as a politician and I doubt that it’s a motivation for him today.

As for the whole Lewinsky thing, I just wish he had said, “that’s none of your business.” Because really, it wasn’t, and it wasn’t pertinent to anything else either, the Paula Jones case included.

I’ve heard Clinton described as “our best Republican president,” still seems to fit the bill. He did at least some good shit (the Family Medical Leave Act was nothing compared to FDR and LBJ’s accomplishments, but it made quite a bit of difference to quite a few people) and tried to do more (the attempts at UHC, even if they failed, and the attempts at allowing gays in the military – the half-assed compromise of DADT wasn’t nearly enough, but it was a step up from the previous “no gays ever” policy and as much as he could’ve gotten at the time).

The only other thing I’ll say in Clinton’s defense – circumstances make the man, probably more than the other way around. Once a realignment happens, both parties pretty much play by its rules until the next realignment at least in national elections. Clinton and Obama being nice and pliable to the corporations is just the flip side of Eisenhower and Nixon governing as Keynesians – it’s that or you don’t get anywhere near the White House.

(If FDR or LBJ were running either today or back in the first Gilded Age, I figure either we’d never have heard of them or we’d rate them as Republican-by-another-name toolbags).

After experiencing first hand the swift decay of Flint, abetted by his approval of NAFTA, I have a hard time viewing Clinton’s administration with any realistic perspective.

OK, if we’re still talking about Clinton: Although I never voted for him, it was the behavior of the GOP during his presidency that put me off of voting Republican for good. You can thank the GOP for turning me from an apathetic libertarian into an angry progressive.

Yes, I’ll never forget the first impression Bill made upon me (see above) but by the end of his eight years, I respected his accomplishments -especially his budget surpluses- and was royally POed at his opposition for being total douches. (OTOH, he did also endorse the dismantling of Glass-Steagall… something I dreaded at the time, and it had predictable results after less than 10 years.)

All in all, I was a belated supporter of Pres. Clinton by the end of his two terms.

I also wonder what would have happened if Gore had been elected to succeed him… I confess I seriously misevaluated Al Gore at the time of his candidacy, as did most of the nation I suspect.

The Mayor of Upper Astroboffin

I’m usually loathe to drop anything directly in one person’s lap, but this,
OTOH, he did also endorse the dismantling of Glass-Steagall…

NAFTA, and The Telecommunications Act of 1996, broke my political will and sent me deeply into confirmed cynic territory.
I’m still fighting to recover.

Aye, Mayor. I have not forgotten those either.

Nor Obama’s senate votes and presidential policy on warrantless wiretapping… nor his tacit approval of the treatment of Bradley Manning.

But imagine if we had had Bobblehead McCain for preznit the past four years! [shudder]

But imagine if we had had Bobblehead McCain for preznit the past four years! [shudder]

[nods]
Yeah, the realist in me understands a whole bunch of “what might have beens”, but the cynic is always lurking.
I remember, like it was yesterday, sitting in my car outside the unemployment office, staring at my last check. I had two kids at home, less than two hundred dollars in the bank, and no real prospects of any type of employment.
Y’see,…at that time if you were laid off from GM, no one, and I mean NO one, would take a chance on you.
Not Mickey D’s.
Not a gas station.
No one,…because you might get called back, and they knew you’d go running.
Well, whilst sitting there crying, wondering WTF I was going to do, Reagan was speaking on the car radio.
When I heard “Are you better off now than you were four years ago?” I fucking lost it.
At that instant, I could have been an assasin with no qualms.
When those who lay claim to being “on my side” do things that are just as destructive, I…
well I just lose any sense of optimism or hope.
As it sits right now I can’t have any faith that the vested pension check I receive will be there next month.
Every month.
My mind and heart simply *will not* allow me to believe.
The cynic wins.

Wow. I got nothin’

I’ve had it bad but not that bad. That’s terrifying actually.

The Mayor of Upper Astroboffin

Yeah, it was terrifying.
What most people didn’t understand at the time was that there were many thousands of people in that exact position, in *one* city.
It seems like it’s too easy to forget even today. Twenty five percent unemployment was no joke. For most, it’s a number. For us, it was people we knew well. Was it any wonder that “bootstrap” talk made (and still makes) most of us really, really stabby.
…or depressed and suicidal.
The stock market was fine.
Unemployment elsewhere was up, but we got bitchslapped *hard*, and it stuck with us.
Making up an entire employment history without any mention of where you came from was the norm when we struck out for greener pastures. It usually didn’t work. “Underground” employment was really the only choice for many.
It was what I did.

The Mayor of Upper Astroboffin

“…where you *actually* came from…”
I didn’t pretend like I just dropped in from outer space, although that’s what it felt like sometimes.

NAFTA, and The Telecommunications Act of 1996, broke my political will and sent me deeply into confirmed cynic territory.

The last election here did much of that for me as far as Canadian politics goes.

My dipshittery-infested Dominion’s Liberal & NDP not-so-honorable MPs, despite knowing full well just how evil & soulless Harper’s posse was (Come on, man – having those scum right on tape LAUGHING & JOKING about their policy’s role in food poisoning deaths? ), shrugged off the terrified pleas of legions of their voters to govern as a coalition & take them out of the driver’s seat before they could pimp their way to a majority.

“You bloody naive little peasants are plainly as barmy as bats to even so much as SUGGEST such a thing! Simply wouldn’t be cricket to be partners with a different team, old tit, now would it then? Heh heh … now, let’s all Tally Ho off down to the HOC Cafeteria for some more delicious subsidized surf-n-turf, lads!”

* ♫ CANADA, FUCK YEAH! ♬ *

Fuck yeah, so right. But I’ll bet you 100 bottlecaps the reason the coalition would never fly: how could they agree on who gets to be Prime Mister? The party leaders would fight to the death over that little perk.

being full of boredom and procrastination today, i went back to news blusterers to see if there were any new mangoes…there were lots, but just more of the same ‘ha, ha…harry reid looks like he got a wedgie’ which all degenerated into an epic ‘we <3 sarah! you big poopy head liberals!' argument…

anyhoo, one of the latest television outrages over there is about letterman telling oprah that he only apologized about his a-rod joke so he could keep making fun of sarah and that he did actually feel bad that it was the younger daughter that was with him…the mangoes are all, 'lettterman's a not funny creepy old pervert!'

here's my favorite:

Daniel Tan•3 hours ago?
I never laugh at his jokes. I always change to Jay Leno. He should be in some retirement convalescent homes doing a gig. Some Dementia/Alzheimers people might get his joke and have a smile. In that case, he will be useful

oh newsblusterer wingnuts, you never disappoint!

My father was in the same position at several points in his life, with one significant difference: He could count on an income that GM had to furnish under the union contract. Now that’s all evaporated.

I might have said this here before, but I can’t help saying it again: I would like to grab George Will by his bow tie, drag him over to a GM plant’s welding line, and tell him, “Here, fuckhead. You think my dad was so spoiled and pampered? Let’s see you try to do his job.”

Try crossing six beams. I know a couple people who worked on that system though of course they wouldn’t tell me anything about it.

When I started reading Sadly, No! lo, those many years ago, I thought they would have a hard time topping the jokes conservatives make out of themselves, but these days the Sadly, No! writers must be working three shifts, and taking work home. It must be hard to keep up.

From American Misnomer,

According to the Washington Post’s Philip Rucker, President Obama is committed to moving quickly on gun violence legislation. Reported as good news, in truth this carefully projected haste and urgency ought to be regarded — and would be reported, by a media that did not have a stake in leftist authoritarianism — as the gravest warning sign.

Düsseldorf-based Rheinmetall Defense recently tested a 50kW, high-energy laser at their proving ground facility in Switzerland. According to the company, the laser passed the test with “flying colours.”

leftist authoritarianism

fucking leftist authoritarianism…how does it work?

zomg. LEAFS SUCK Mayor Rob Ford in Appeals Court right now trying to get the decision booting him from office overturned. One of the Justices just said that he didn’t think it was fair to portray Rob Ford as unco-operative with the integrity commissioner. “He co-operated rather fully”

zomg zomg zomg *boggle*

Apparently this is what co-operating rahter fully looks like:

The case traces back to a run-in between Mr. Ford and Toronto integrity commissioner Janet Leiper. During a 2010 investigation, she concluded that he had used city staff and council letterhead to solicit donations from registered lobbyists, thereby running afoul of council’s code of conduct.

During the final session of Mr. Miller’s term, in August, 2010, council backed Ms. Leiper’s recommendation to fine Mr. Ford. But as mayor, Mr. Ford has refused to comply, despite attempts by Ms. Leiper to enforce the decision. She wrote to him seven times asking whether he had yet reimbursed the funds.

She submitted a follow-up report in council last February, again recommending that he return the money. During the debate, Mr. Ford denied ever handling the funds. He voted as part of a majority on a motion to reverse the August, 2010, decision to impose the fine.

Reported as good news, in truth this carefully projected haste and urgency ought to be regarded — and would be reported, by a media that did not have a stake in leftist authoritarianism — as the gravest warning sign.

LOL. “Because it reports the news but fails to react to it as we would, because it fails to add the ritual editorial freakouts about communist conspiracies that we like to indulge in, the media is liberally biased. Anything that does not begin and end as a conservative manifesto is liberally biased.”

Not kidding here. Rob Ford has used his talk radio show (of course our mayor has one of those) to attack the integrity of a specific city staffer. This is, of course, contrary to Council’s Code of Conduct and the Integrity Commissioner called him out on it as is her job. So he attacked her instead.

Seriously, with the rate at which Rob gets into trouble with the IC you would think they are cartoon arch-nemeses. Co-operating fully!?! Seriously?

Düsseldorf-based Rheinmetall Defense recently tested a 50kW, high-energy laser at their proving ground facility in Switzerland. According to the company, the laser passed the test with “flying colours.”

Using steel or iron as a laser target is kinda cheating. In my laser machining class in college, they stated that 90% of the energy that is used to cut ferrous metals with a torch or a laser comes from the metal oxidizing. While aluminum or copper also oxidize, they require much more powerful lasers to cut, since they are so effective at conducting heat away from the laser cutting site. I realize that the power levels being discussed in the article are fifty to a hundred times stronger than we worked with, but even so, a highly reflective and or conductive target would be far more resistant to laser damage than iron.

Apologies, it’s Medical Officer of Health. I dunno how welcome up with these ridiculous names but wev.

Fully co-operating apparently also includes lobbying to have the Integrity Commissioner’s office scrapped. It’s fucking mind boggling. Appears to have fully co-operated. Sweet IPU, one week in and I think I’ve found LEAFS SUCK’s Wanker of the Year.

Damn you Autocorrect. How would you like to welcome my boot up your asp!

SUB. We had it, but if you didn’t have 10+ years your eligibility fell off rather quickly. Each check would take more than one SUB credit scaled to seniority. My last SUB check ate up 17 credits. I didn’t get the axe until 82, so the SUB fund had taken a big hit by that time. Between 81 and 82 they were chopping right up to my ass, and a bit past seniority wise because I worked in a “closed group”. You couldn’t “bump” into it. I was a W.A.H.S.S. …
I would like to grab George Will by his bow tie, drag him over to a GM plant’s welding line, and tell him, “Here, fuckhead. You think my dad was so spoiled and pampered? Let’s see you try to do his job

Heh, heh,…that stands for Welder – Arc Hand – Structural Specialist.
Small world.
All the SS meant was that you had to walk and weld at the same time, but anyone with half a lick of sense and some seniority ran from it. It sucked that bad.
There were many times I wanted desperately to sneak some know-it-all in to try my job. The hilarity would not have been worth the firing though.
Took me twenty years to get off that job and into the machine shop.

Mayor, did you ever read “Rivethead”? That gave me a good take on just what my father went through. (Better than I’d ever get from him, anyway. The man never complained, about his job or anything else, in his life.)

While I was amusing myself this morning tilting at windmills, I played out the Dunning-Kruger card. (The context was abuse of statistics, which statistics thing I’m pretty sure I learned a lot about while getting my math degree). The response is so precious I have to share: Dunning-Kruger would only apply if I was making claims of my superiority or familiarity with a field,

That wasn’t his first self-pwn, but it is highly amusing.

The Mayor of Upper Astroboffin

Mayor, did you ever read “Rivethead”?
Oh, goodness yes!
Soon as it came out.
(Full disclosure, Ben’s a friend. Not close, but we’d nod at the bar)
He pretty much nailed it. Although “doubling up’ was never an option for us, the culture was the same.
The absolute mind-fuck was constant. We earned that money.
