Confederate Yankee Does the Math
Brought to you by pow-pow-Powerline: An exercise in circle-jerkingly citing IDF press releases and right-wing Israeli media as authoritative news sources, while still screwing up the most basic details of a story — resulting in an approving link from the Minneapolis Minge Ninjas. Objective: Justify the Qana attack via speculation and creative blameswitching.
Shrader and Gannon did not question the rather unique makeup of the families hardest hit in the attack (my bold):
Israel suspended air attacks on south Lebanon for 48 hours starting early Monday in the face of widespread outrage over an airstrike on a house that killed 56 Lebanese, almost all of them women and children.
[jump to page 2]
Red Cross officials said 56 were killed and police said 34 children and 12 adult women were among the dead.
[snip]
In Qana, workers pulled dirt-covered bodies of young boys and girls dressed in the shorts and T-shirts they had been sleeping in out of the mangled wreckage of the building. Bodies were carried in blankets.
Two extended families, the Shalhoubs and the Hashems, had gathered in the house for shelter from another night of Israeli bombardment in the border area when the strike brought the building down.
“I was so afraid. There was dirt and rocks and I couldn’t see. Everything was black,” said 13-year-old Noor Hashem, who survived, although her five siblings did not. She was pulled out of the ruins by her uncle, whose wife and five children also died.
34 children. 12 adult women. Not a single adult male officially listed among them. How strangely asexual these “civilian” families seem to be.
Except for the ten adult males killed, seeing as 56 is ten more than 46 (for most definitions of ‘ten’).
Coming Soon: Presence of adult males in Qana death toll proves Hizbollah using victims as ‘human shields.’ Get on it, boys!
Update: ‘Were the Qana Bodies Staged?’: A bonus exercise in selective sourcing and convenient amnesia, in which Confederate Yankee grabs a story from a right-wing Israeli journal (whose only source is IDF press statements), swallows it whole, and adds some me-too commentary.
These guys have it so easy, man.
Among other interesting features (for instance, a new, improved timeline helpfully provided by the impartial IDF), we learn that unlike that time in the distant past when an American missile killed al-Zarqawi — that legendary figure remembered down a long, long march of ages from a time when the world was young — those killed by the concussion created by explosives don’t ever look reasonably intact on the surface and die of internal injuries, like al-Zarqawi did, and as was widely explained all over the place, lo! those distant several weeks ago.
Coming Soon: It’s All the Media’s Fault (Somehow).
There was some drool on the calculator so it didn’t work good.
I’m not surprised, seeing how entry-level elementary math confused him (her? Not likely, but still), but are they seriously suggesting that the RED CROSS is part of the Ayyrab/Facist/Nazi/Commie/NY Yankee/Liberal conspiracy?
Yeah, and you’re using _Arabic_ numerals, not the good old Roman type. This is MMVI, folks!
Gah! I read the comments to the CY post! Somebody get me some lye or red-hot spikes for my eyes!
It’s particularly galling that the only commenter who pointed out that CY was relying entirely on Israeli sources for his “facts” was someone who called them “Jew media.”
This guy calls himself “Confederate Yankee”? I grew up in hardcore rural Mississippi and spent my entire life in the South, and I wouldn’t call myself “Confederate” shit. While I have no idea exactly what this cat’s handle refers to, I must admit the first thing that comes to mind upon hearing a Northerner has affection for the Old South involves white sheets and a particularly skewered view of history. I do hope I’m wrong over this, but that’s just tacky.
As always, you moonbats totally miss the point!
Do the math: all 56 people who died were Arabs, so who gives a fuck if they got killed for no reason?
Gavin – leave the poor boy alone he is only following the company line:
Yesha Rabbinical Council: During time of war, enemy has no innocents
The Yesha Rabbinical Council announced in response to an IDF attack in Kfar Qanna that “according to Jewish law, during a time of battle and war, there is no such term as ‘innocents’ of the enemy.”
All of the discussions on Christian morality are weakening the spirit of the army and the nation and are costing us in the blood of our soldiers and civilians,” the statement said.
With religious nuts like this providing the talking points what chance does he have.
Lessee…12 women plus 10 men…let’s call that 10 couples and 2 grandmothers so we don’t have to think about any evil single mothers. 34 children…that’s 3.4 children per couple.
He’s right! That is a totally bizarre make up of “families”. They should have 2.4 children!
And this:
The Yesha Rabbinical Council announced in response to an IDF attack in Kfar Qanna that “according to Jewish law, during a time of battle and war, there is no such term as ‘innocents’ of the enemy.
I can wrap my brain around this kind of statement if it applies equally to both sides. If the council also ruled that no Israelis could be considered “innocent” in a time of war, it becomes a pretty cruel but understandable dictum. Especially if you are considering any kind of “blood price” or atonement for killing during war, it becomes hair-splitting to say Ezra is more guilty than David because his bullets hit the kid behind his target and David’s didn’t. Much easier on the karmic bookkeeping to just say “They killed people during the war.” Likewise when you start talking about reconciling with your former enemies. (Not saying I agree with it, just that I can understand the reasoning.)
If however, Israel (or its American supporters) continue to play the “Hezbollah is targeting innocent civilians!” card, but rule out Lebanon playing the same card because “in war there are no innocents!” that’s wrong on so many levels.
They just make it too easy for you, don’t they?
The idea of no innocents among the enemy population is as old as tribal warfare itself. And in Deuteronomy, it’s all about genocide. Just a few verses.
Deuteronomy 2:33-2:35
2:33 And the LORD our God delivered him before us; and we smote him, and his sons, and all his people.
2:34 And we took all his cities at that time, and utterly destroyed the men, and the women, and the little ones, of every city, we left none to remain:
2:35 Only the cattle we took for a prey unto ourselves, and the spoil of the cities which we took.
3:3 – 3:6
3:3 So the LORD our God delivered into our hands Og also, the king of Bashan, and all his people: and we smote him until none was left to him remaining.
3:4 And we took all his cities at that time, there was not a city which we took not from them, threescore cities, all the region of Argob, the kingdom of Og in Bashan.
3:5 All these cities were fenced with high walls, gates, and bars; beside unwalled towns a great many.
3:6 And we utterly destroyed them, as we did unto Sihon king of Heshbon, utterly destroying the men, women, and children, of every city.
dAVE,
I personally love the quotations about the soldiers ripping the unborn children from their mother’s womb and dashing their brains upon the stones…have to look up the cites for that. There’s at least one reference in the Psalms and another in Judges, I believe.
Culture of Life!
Dorothy – ooh yeah! I was looking for that one too. But I’m at work and don’t have much time to go through it.
Is that the one where the soldiers are instructed to dash the children against the rocks, take the virgin women as wives, and kill all the non-virgin women?
Yankee grabs a story from a right-wing Israeli journal
CY was relying entirely on Israeli sources for his “facts
You’re right. Needs to be balanced with some left-wing Hezbollah propaganda.
about the soldiers ripping the unborn children from their mother’s womb and dashing their brains upon the stones
There’s a biblical book of Nanking? Hoo New? The book of Tani Hisao?
mikey
Coming Soon: It’s All the Media’s Fault (Somehow).
That didn’t take long:
This isn’t “tin foil hat” territory, just the opposite. CY’s observations are built upon facts, eyewitness observation, history, and common sense.
This is the M.O. of ME terrorists, exploiting women and children for maximum sympathy from western useful idiots.
There’s a good reason the terrorists call the western press their #1 weapon.

No Ha-Ha, no. Only right-wing fools unwittingly try that shit.
Coming Soon: Are these people even dead?
QANA BUILDING FELL LONG AFTER ATTACK: MUSLIMS KILLED MUSLIMS?
…I just don’t get why civil citizens of the planet worry about the Muslim children being killed….
J. Grant Swank, Jr.
From the Swank link:
“I don’t know why all the anguish over caring for the Muslim boys and girls being killed in the present war. Muslims don’t care about the boys and girls.”
It seems to me that neither do the right wingers.
Oh, Christ. I read his entire column. He is so fucking sick. I want to throw up. I cannot believe that people like him walk among us.
‘Suffer the little children’ said Jesus. Only Pastor Swank uses the modern meaning of ‘suffer’.
Blessed be my PEACEMAKER, for it will blow the shit out of your brown little faces…
It really depends on what your definition of “ten” is.

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Actually, if you look at the front page of the July 31,2006 Washington Post there is a big photo of a Lebanese man in Qana standing next to a row of bodies.
The last body in line is getting to his feet.
With all due respect , this is a tradgedy. So why are there 40 or 50 doctored images and videos? Why was there such a need, on the part of the press, to make it worse? It leaves everyone questioning what really happened, when, by whom?
Also , I saw a video of Kevin Sites of Yahoo fame who showed up at Qana.
As he was helping to evacuate an elderly woman, he was laughing. I just got the feeling that the whole thing was staged for the cameras.(See the YuTube flick , Horrors of Lebanon , about half way through) Again, if there is a tradgedy , then document it , no need to invent it.
