Thank God for Saddam Hussein*

Inappropriate! Along the same lines:
For more than 17,000 years, the bestiary of the Lascaux cave in southwestern France survived the ravages of history, unseen and undiscovered. […]
“They tell us the cave’s condition is stable,” says a member of the Scientific Committee of Lascaux Cave, which the French Ministry of Culture set up in 2002 to deal with the problem. “But that’s what they say about Ariel Sharon.”
That’s not gonna be good for business.

Ahh, we can a;ways count on our francophone friends for a certain… je ne sais quoi. Zut alors!!un!
Ha Ha, the stories I could tell about the French if I understood a word they were saying!
It is quite an appropriate and humourous metaphor. It might be a bit sick, but it is not anti-semitic. That won’t stop the wingnuts indulging in a bit of fake indignation over the coming days.
As for the “Thank God for Saddam Hussein” comment, I am not sure of the context.
So you can’t make a joke about someone just because they are Jewish. Sadly, No!
By the way, one of the few other sites posting about this statement, has a more recent post about another Israeli war hero and, sometime, war criminal.
BTW, your text box for editing comments is still rendering in IE6 across the full page and underneath the archive list, this giving me a perfect excuse for any typos.
Uhhh… Conan O’Brien skit reference, I’m hoping. I’ll see that and raise you “Out-drink the Robot!”
I’m afraid this falls under the category of mildly dark humor that is quite ordinary in casual conversation but kinda stupid to say out loud to a reporter. The equivalent of a Michael Jackson joke.
What the hell kind of a world do we live in where I have nothing to do at work except read Sadly, No?
A damn good one, that’s what kind.
Write faster guys, I’m not getting paid to do absolutely nothing, you know.

Yeah, Sadly, No! makes pretending to work sooo much easier.
I wonder what the leftist blogs will mention first
a) That Jerome Armstrong is a crook who shilled worthless stocks
b) That John Murtha advocated cutting and running from Somalia, which emboldened Bin Laden, and he says that running from Somalia was a good thing. Just imagine what would happen as a result of America adopting the Murtha plan to run from Iraq.
>That John Murtha advocated cutting and running from Somalia, which emboldened Bin Laden
When Bush pledged (falsely) to refrain from “nation building” as President, what specific military debacle do we all know he had in mind? Find a single Republican who advocted staying in Somalia, Gary. About as many who applauded Clinton for going after bin laden in Sudan and Afghanistan (can you say “Wag the Dog”?). Idiot.
When the GOP talked about nation building, they were talking about Bosnia and Kosovo.
Well, I’m not too thrilled with the way things have gone in Iraq, but at least it’s not as big a clusterfuck as that Kosovo thing was.
b) That John Murtha advocated cutting and running from Somalia, which emboldened Bin Laden,
Thanks, Gary. I absolutely LOVE this line. It’s been crackin me up for what, over five years now. You see, in this version of the world, Osama bin Laden was a sweet, helpful philanthropic puppy dog, until us rotten commies on The Left ™ had to go and EMBOLDEN the fucker. Shoot, before John Murtha advocated cutting and running (BTW, I get the running part, but what exactly does he advocate CUTTING?), the only attack he was planning was to put a stink bomb in the bathroom at Kabul High on senior cut day. But then that lefty freak Murtha had to go and suggest that perhaps Mogadishu wasn’t a particularly good place to have troops on the ground and bin Laden goes all “damn, guess I’ll start planning to kill those Americans ’cause the weak bastards don’t have the sack to stay in Somalia”.
Let’s think this through before we decide that bin Laden and al Quaida only attacked us because somebody you don’t like did something to “embolden” him. He’s a terrorist. That’s what he does. Our narrowly self serving foreign policy made him angry at us. So he tries to kill Americans. It’s really not that hard to grasp, fellas…
mikey
It’s the rat-hat episode, isn’t it?
Oh wait – I missed the asterisk. Never mind, I am on crack.
