Ailing Health Care
- Make no mistake: If President Barack Obama actually wanted to be the post-partisan agent of Washington change, his health care summit would have involved him capitulating completely to the partisans on my side of the aisle.
‘Shorter’ concept created by Daniel Davies and perfected by Elton Beard. We are aware of all Internet traditions.™
Instead the president continues to argue — aided by media folks from near everyone on MSNBC to even Bill O’Reilly on the supposedly all-right Fox News Channel — that the American people just don’t understand what his health-care plan is all about.
How long before FOX GODDAMN NEWS is too liberal for the hardcore wingnuts?
not getting off the boat, not even for a scantily clad j-lo on the beach in her bikini offering cut price mangoes
Not listening isn’t exactly the “hope and change” people signed up for.
No, it’s just what the majority signed up for, as opposed to “not thinking”.
Amazing how they get their panties all in a twist when finally confronted on their big lie strategy. It’s like they’ve been able to get away with just pulling stuff out of their asses for so long that it’s a shock when anyone points out matter-of-factly that they’re all just a bunch of goddamned liars.

NO Website?
Please God, no Newsletter?
why not, its free choice, and we could make good money off it from wingnuts…
They’re not giving us any interesting material to work with lately. The invective over on the batshit end of the political spectrum has truly gotten so bizarre it’s impossible to parody.
During the B*sh years, I was writing weekly rants for Counterpunch and having a high old time generally. At some point early in his second term, I realized it was all over: there wasn’t anything left to make fun of. The preznit could have run naked out on the White House lawn with a fake Hitler mustache and a light-up dildo in his ass, danced a bourree, and set a basket of puppies on fire, and the commentariat would have found some way to spin it as a loss for the discredited Left, which at that point was anybody more liberal than the Lockheed Corporation. How the hell do you find the humor in a situation like that?
We are in essentially the same situation now — Republicans offering a discreet golf clap to a lunatic that used an airplane as a weapon to crash into an office building. Uh, guys?
Anyway, just had to vent on this topic. KLo isn’t fun any more. Beck isn’t fun any more. Krauthammer Von Strangelove isn’t fun any more. Not even the trolls are fun any more. I come here for the richly veined non sequiturs, the instant memes, and the merciless yet affectionate brand of camaraderie that so reminds me of fellowship among badgers. That remains the same. But we’ve got nothing to work with.
It’s the Cuckoo’s Nest Newsletter Syndrome: once the inmates have been running the asylum for long enough, making fun of the columnists loses its appeal.
Because it would be morally, ethically, spiritually, and intellectually repugnant
Some crimes against nature are too awful for the brain to fully comprehend.
That way lies madness.
Cthulhu awaits.
How long before FOX GODDAMN NEWS is too liberal for the hardcore wingnuts?
Speaking of which, that’s another part of the Cycle Of Madness. These fuckwits aren’t “conservatives,” they’re reactionary whackjobs with no fixed ideology. So is Fox. Their entire platform is essentially Randian nihilism, but the reason nobody can quite pin it down is there’s no actual ideology there: it’s just a response to stimuli. Hence “Liberal Fascism.”
Orwell wrote extensively about this in his letters and essays for the commie papers, and of course it turned up in that book he wrote about one of the Reagan years. The trick is to wake up every day and have a two-minute hate, then spend the rest of your time counting the pennies you’ve got hidden away behind the drainpipe. There’s nothing more complex to their ideology than that.

They’ve expanded the two-minute hate to twenty-four hours- we are all Emmanuel Goldstein now.
Spengler – I hear you. This post was just a way to give everybody a new thread above the tsunami post. Not the greatest material ever. But now Mencken’s given us something better up above, so go check that out.
Gary Graham or Nostradamus?
Needs more subtitles.
“Every Republican, from House Minority Leader John Boehner to maverick John McCain (the latter facing primary challenger from the right, by the way) walked into the meeting imploring the White House to start over, to begin again, to hit the reset button. If the president wanted to work with them in any way, he would have done just that.”
Translation: Can’t we just agree to forget all about that whole “elections have consequences” thing? Pleeeeeeeeease?
“The president of the United States is a liberal ideologue who isn’t comfortable telling you the straight facts.”
Translation: I have no fucking clue what I’m talking about.
“And he ridicules those who try to highlight the truth. Without a penchant for honesty — or even a slight openness to it — it’s just about all he’s left with.”
Translation: Oh, & did I mention I’m also batshit insane?
My take was more like this:
“The president of the United States is a liberal ideologue who isn’t comfortable telling you the straight facts.”

“The president of the United States is a liberal ideologue who isn’t comfortable telling you the straight facts.”
Back in the real world, Obama is a moderate centrist without a fixed policy line – it’s the conservatives who prefer their ideology to the straight facts and are still repeating mantras like “the freer the market, the freer the people” and “if there’s something wrong with the economy, socialism did it.”
“And ridicules those who try to highlight the truth.”
Like global warming, evolution, the lack of WMDs in Iraq, the lack of ties between Iraq and al-Qaeda, the existence of welfare states without poverty or tyranny in Europe and Canada.
It’s not just that they don’t know what they’re talking about – movement conservatives have some pretty serious projection issues. If they’re accusing liberals of something bad, you can be reasonably certain that it’s something they’re doing or have done themselves. It’s funny, except that as Spengler points out, their rhetoric legitimately has gotten too insane to parody.
A shorter K-Lo would be so grotesque she have to wear a “wide load” sign when she walked down the sidewalk.
