It Seems the Republicans Hate the Troops Now Too
I’m glad to know that it’s not just the Democrats anymore (emphasis mine):
The U.S. Senate opened debate today on measures that would put the chamber on record for the first time asking President George W. Bush to set limits for keeping American troops in Iraq.
The Bush administration “needs to explain to Congress and the American people its strategy for the successful completion of the mission,” say resolutions introduced separately by both Republicans and Democrats. […]
While the measures express a non-binding “sense of the Senate,” together they’re “early pressure on a major U.S. military operation, in contrast to the Vietnam War” where congressional resistance didn’t occur until the early 1970s or about eight years after the start of the major military build- up, said Louis Fisher, a senior specialist on congressional war powers for the nonpartisan Congressional Research Service.
The measures will prove attractive to Republicans up for re-election next year who want “to distance themselves from the White House,” Fisher said.
Bush’s approval rating is at a record low in recent polls. A survey released today by CNN, USA Today and the Gallup Organization showed 37 percent approve of the job he’s doing and 60 percent disapprove. A Newsweek magazine poll released yesterday found an approval rating of 36 percent and a disapproval rate of 58 percent.
How low can Bush’s ratings get? While it’s unlikely that they’ll keep plummeting at the current rate, I doubt he’ll get much higher than 45% for the remainder of his term. Bush is such a thoroughly detestable and unlikable person that only True Wingnuts like Marie and Pastor Swank will still approve of him by 2008.
I hope that Marie will come around. It would give me so much hope for the world. That being said, time to get back into the sh*t with Dr. B.L.T!
God please not blt!
Yup. It’s gettin’ time to save the party. These trogs smell their own fear…And they’re goin’ down!!!
You’re really encouraging him with all this attention. I mean, you saw that picture — he looks like Huggy Bear. “Pay attention to meeeeeee!”
You guys know what? I am a co-editor at a Muslim webzine and we have a weird Muslim troll who is a bit like your Dr. BLT. What is it with the Internet that it seems to draw all these people clamoring for attention from people who they repeatedly claim they despise or are diametrically opposed to? It seems as if they will not feel validated unless they get validation from those they consider enemies. This is weird. It is like its own mental thing. Internet Disorder?
Anna in Cairo, I appreciate your interest in the phenomenon you’ve so elegantly identified. Actually, if you take a look at Bolwby’s study on monkeys you’ll find the answer to your question. He discovered a phenomenon that he referred to as “anxious attachment.” He found that when monkeys are abused and rejected by their mothers, oddly enough, they end up clinging to the cold, rejecting mothers. The same thing happened to The Monkees in the 60s. Beatles fans laughed at them and verbally abused them, but they kept coming out with songs designed to please the cold, rejecting Beatles fans, only to discover more rejection and further abuse. In the end they rid themselves of their own codependent “anxious attachment” by taking The Last Train to Clarksville.
So were you abused by real conservatives, so you are clinging to your false mothers, the liberals?
Wow! I likes me some Anna in Cairo! Anna, unfortunately, you’ve responded to Dr. BLT, so he’s attached himself like a barnacle. Trying to scrape him off is something of a pointless exercise–how am I doing on the depersonalization, BLT?
Doc, that may have been the funniest thing you’ve ever posted here. Monkeys, Monkees. Maybe humor writing is your thing, not songwriting.
heh – barnacle. I love that word!
Dr. sliced pork sandwich. That’s funny!
Didn’t your mother love you Dr. sliced pork belly sandwich?
Sadly, No!
Marq, you’re on a roll. Why stop now? Dan, if the songwriting gig doesn’t make me rich and famous in 30 years (though I despise the very thought of fame and fortune), I’m going to take you up on your advice and try my hand at humor writing. If the general consensus is that I’m a bad songwriter, then I’m going to try to be as good at being bad as I can.
Mr. X: My mother loved me as good as she could, but being a right-winger mom with five children, there wasn’t quite enough love love to go around all the time, so my mom and dad bought me a guitar. The rest is history.
Mmmm… sliced pork bellies… yum!
He’s free as the breeze,
He’s always at ease.
He lives in the jungle
And hangs by his knees,
As he swings through trees
Without a trapeeze,
In his BVD’s.
A-hoo hoo!
He’s got a union card
And he’s practicin’ hard
To play the gitar.
Gon’ be a big star,
Yeah he’s gonna go far.
An’ carry moonbeams home in a jar!
He ordered Chet’s guitar course COD,
Makes A&E an’ he’s workin’ on B.
Digs C&W&R&B an’ an’ me an’ a chimpanzee
Agree that one day soon he’ll be,
A celebrity.
Get it!
Get it!
Get it!
Get it!
OWWWWWWWWW!
Gitarzan!
He’s a gitar man!
He’s all you can stand,
Give him a hand,
Gitarzan!
(Tarzan yell)
(Coughing)
He’s gotta girl named Jane,
With no last name.
Kinda homely and plain,
But he loves her just the same.
‘Cause she kindles a flame,
And it drives him insane,
When he hears her sing.
She really does her thing.
It’s here claim to fame,
Come on, sing one Jane:
Baby, baby, Whaooooo Baby!
(Scatting)
Whaooooo Baby!
How ’bout that,
Lets here it for Jane!
Thank ya’ folks.
Well, they gotta pet monkey,
He likes to get drunky,
And sing boogie woogie,
And it sounds real funky,
Come on, yo’ time, boy,
Sing one monkey,
Here we go,
(Monkey grunts)
Lets here it for the monkey!
Whooooo!
(He He He He)
On Saturday night they need some excitement,
Jane gets right and the monkey gets tight,
And their voices unite, in the pale moon light,
And it sounds alright, yeah, it’s dynamite,
It’s outta sight.
Let’s hear it, right nnnnnnnnow!
(Gitarzan, Jane, and monkery all together)
Jane:
Shut up baby, I’m tryin’ to sing!
Get it!
Get it!
Get it!
Get it!
Owwwwwww!
Gitarzan!
And his jungle band!
They’re all you can stand,
Give ’em a hand, Gitarzan!
Mr. X, you’ve got quite the imagination. Why stop at a song? Build a movie around the song, and make a soundtrack.
You can blame Ray Stevens for that one. “Conservatives” are good at the blame game. Question: Isn’t conservative a misnomer? They are not conservative on spending, energy use, or the environment. Maybe it’s the attire, yeah, that’s it. Sorry to razz you but you make yourself a target.
Mr. X, I don’t blame you for accusing conservatives of being good at playing the blame game. I see plenty of blame to go around on both sides when it comes to playing the blame game, but I suggest that we get away from blaming and shaming one another. Blaming and shaming are the hallmarks of families in which one or both parents are alcoholics.
Furthermore, Ray Stevens is the last person I would blame for anything. I consider him extremely entertaining and talented. “The Streak” is one of the more memorable songs of the 70s.
As for the irony of the conservative “misnomer,” I understand what you’re trying to say. Many folks who call themselves conservative certainly don’t behave in a manner that could be called conservative by any stretch of the imagination. As for me making a great target, I do set myself up for much of it, but you don’t seem to go too far in taking advantage of the situation. You seem to have a little more mercy and a little more respect than the average lion who roams around in this jungle.
Dr. BLT, Song Blogger,
How very astute! I am not the average law of the jungle type. There is so much I do not know. I only have what I have read of you recently to go on. I, too, am cynical of politics in general. Sorry to come on this blog with such a roar.
Mr. X, Welcome to the Jungle. You may or may not recall that song by Guns and Roses. Well, figurately speaking, I’ve had to dodge a few guns around here, but I must admit there are a few roses as well. Of course with every rose, one has to watch out for the thorns. As that last sentence may reveal, some of the cynicism at this site has rubbed off on me.
Dr. BLT, Song Blogger,
Yeah, I know that tune. “… it gets worse here every day…” Anyway, keep your powder dry and maybe I’ll see you on up the trail somewhere.
Oh for fucks sake, another comments thread derailed by that cunt BLT. Please make it stop, Seb, please….
Henry, your comment reminds me of that Rodney Dangerfield movie (I think it’s called Back to School) where Dangerfield notices a note on the door saying that his teacher is ill and he goes around jumping up and down yelling, “I’ve got no class! I’ve got no class!”
Well Henry, here’s one for you then. The GOP seem to be like rats leaving a stinking ship, eh? Captain Ahab at the helm, aye, cap’n, I’ll get rid of that Powell for ya and bring Miss Kitty Hawk up to the bridge. Yes cap’n, I have four knees, give me some cheese, rat baby, yah! Oops! That’s an elephant that has four knees, isn’t it? Oh well an elephant never forgets… Now, back to the hunt for that great white whale…
Speaking of Ray Stevens reminds me of a trip I took to Scotland many years ago, hitchhiking around and staying in hostels. I wound up on Orkney, pub crawling with some folks I had hooked up with, and, as the lone American in the bunch, was buttonholed by a drunk young man who wanted to discuss the monarchy and the Royal Family with me. Meanwhile, his young and presumably equally drunk wife was pumping coins into the jukebox on the wall and playing her favorite song, over and over again: Ray Stevens’ “The Streak.”
Ah, good times, good times….
Oh, I neglected the mention the best part of that little vignette: The whole event was made eminently tolerable by the fact that the young man bought me a whisky. In fact, my whole trip (about two weeks bopping around the Highlands and Orkney), I think I had to buy my own Scotch exactly once. Every other time, there was always someone willing to spring for me.
Nice folks the Scots, and in my experience entirely undeserving of their rep as tightwads.
Ah, if only some extraterrestrial Blancmange would go about converting more people into Scottsmen. It would be worth losing Wimbledon to those custardy bastards.
AIC, Dr. BLT lives about an hours’ drive south of me in Bakersfield, CA, which is full of churches, oilfields, Okies, and their descendants.
This explains a lot, IMHO………..

FAR AWAY EYES
(M. Jagger/K. Richards)
I was driving home early Sunday morning through Bakersfield
Listening to gospel music on the colored radio station
And the preacher said, “You know you always have the
Lord by your side”
And I was so pleased to be informed of this that I ran
Twenty red lights in his honor
Thank you Jesus, thank you lord
Of course with every rose, one has to watch out for the thorns. As that last sentence may reveal, some of the cynicism at this site has rubbed off on me.
Everrry rose has it’s thorn.
Just like everrrry night has it’s dawwwwwawwwwnn
And Every cowboy Sings a Sad, sad, Song…
I thoughts it was obvious when they cut their benefits.
Have you guys heard the new Rolling Stones tune “SWEET NEO CON”?? Says it all…
America, America God shed His grace on thee?
By Marie Jon’
America, you must be asleep. You received a letter from two men named Al; Al-Zawahiri and Al-Zarqawi, on Oct 11, 2005, laying out the full plan on just how these two world-wide known terrorists were going to win the debate in America. Unfortunately, it seems that the American public is buying into their plan. Bill Clinton is helping them do so. The AP reported: “Former President Bill Clinton told Arab students Wednesday the United States made a “big mistake” when it invaded Iraq, stoking the partisan debate back home over the war. ”
Al-Zawahiri and Al-Zarqawi want our government to cut and run and leave behind millions of innocent Iraqi people left to be slaughtered by the same Islamic fascists that are causing the trouble we are seeing all over the world. Just this week, we had a senior Congressman call for a total withdrawal from Iraq. What is he thinking? Doesn’t he know that he is politicizing the war at our country’s and troops’ expense? The Congressman, whose name is John Murtha, sparked quite a controversy when he said: “Our troops have become the primary target of the insurgency; They are united against U.S. forces and we have become a catalyst for violence. The war in Iraq is not going as advertised. It is a flawed policy wrapped in illusion.”
He then went even further as he called for our troops to be removed from Iraq. I do not care if this man served in Vietnam. A liar named Senator John F. Kerry also served in Vietnam and made false accusations about the troops.
Just as in Vietnam, our troops are being subverted. The very same neo-communists bastions of anti-American pacifists in this country are doing it all over again. America, wake up. This is not a quagmire. Vietnam is not only past history, but a despicable one at that. Millions of Vietnamese people were killed brutally after America withdrew her presence from there. Learn from past history when it comes to being swayed by the wrong voices that do not speak the truth.
The Democrats are no longer a party that is telling the truth about Iraq. Their main enabler, the mainstream media, is doing the very same ugly spin and giving daily to our enemies more lies to help undo all the good that we have done.
In Iraq and where ever else they hang their turbans and call home, terrorists are listening to a very unseemly and troubling disingenuous debate. The enabler of the Democrats, the mainstream media, are 90% far left in their political beliefs, and are eager to give America the shaft for the political gain of their preferred Party.
These men and women of the old media have become a menace. They are a powerful group who has no conscience to the health and well-being of a nation. There is not much truth being told in the old media. America is fed disinformation and leftist propaganda. The media in many ways seems to be running the country. They are poisoning the well of truthful information regarding winning the war on terror by trying to depose a sitting president.
At the same time, the media helps humiliate our brave and courageous troops by printing the lies about them. This all started with Abu Ghraib. Abu Ghraib is not an accurate reflection of our awesome troops who serve their country bravely and willingly. Those few who disgraced the uniform and the country were dealt with, and are serving time. But the media could not wait to tell you ad nausea what went on. The New York Times alone ran a streak of Abu Ghraib stories 37 days in a row.
We all know the many lies about the troops that have been generated by the American media. Those lies have also caused more hate towards our troops. We were also told lies about Koran’s being flushed down toilets and other falsehoods about Gitmo. Our troops are being told daily that our president lied to them about why they are in Iraq.
The Democrats and the media are the villains and the real problems as to why America is loosing her will to do what is noble and good. America has a strategy, and an exit plan. We will leave when the Iraqi people are able to take care of themselves–and when we are asked to do so by the Iraqi government. The Iraqi’s will hold another election on December 15th, 2005.
America has done a more-than stellar job in Iraq. A real democracy is blooming. Be proud that freedom is on the march. America, God shed his grace on thee with patience and fortitude to stay the course. Remember, we got a letter from two men named Al. Al-Zawahiri and Al-Zarqawi are nodding their heads with agreement as the shameful Democrats spew the same gutless dribble to undermine a president and weaken his ability to lead our nation to victory. The patriots of America will not let them prevail.
