Back Off, Or We’ll Look Into That Clinton Guy

Shorter Wes Vernon:
You want a truth commission, Senator Leahy? I’ll show you a truth commission
- A proposed investigation of alleged Bush administration misdeeds is an outrage, is unfounded, is ludicrous, is reminiscent of Soviet Moscow, is driven by ill motives, and is concocted by persons of bad character who should themselves be investigated for crimes. Take FDR at the 1945 Yalta Conference…*
‘Shorter’ concept created by Daniel Davies and perfected by Elton Beard. We are aware of all Internet traditions.™

Then don’t turn the United Snakes into an authoritarian banana republic, you stupid jerks.
They shouldn’t keep so quiet about Marc Rich. Why just today I heard a Republican finish an entire sentence without mentioning Marc Rich, and that’s why Obama won, folks.
Oh c’mon, “Scooter” Libby said Marc Rich did nothing wrong.
And “Scooter” wouldn’t like, would he?
Lie, dangit.
I don’t know where this moron gets his “100 million lives” stat (though I have an idea) but the combined total of AmeriKKKan deaths in Korea & Vietnam was under 100,000. Inconsiderable in the face of 100 million lives.
Bring it the fuck on. Maybe a “Truth Commission” on why American foreign policy has been a colossal cluster-fuck since the dawn of time would actually help the problem. No, that would require thought, reason, learning & maybe some humility from the foreign policy morons. Forget it.
Judgement at Blartemberg?
I don’t know where this moron gets his “100 million lives” stat (though I have an idea)
He must be counting the Holodomor and the Great Leap Forward, for which Democrats are partially culpable since they want free health care.
Lie, dangit.
Don’t worry. They will.
No way I believe that hair is real.
Added a footnote, tinkered a bit in bad-habit fashion…
‘Night, all!
It is as real as the day is long, the hair. Totally a comb-up & over, w/ spray down, but it is not a toupee.
The big question is, can he open both eyes equally wide at once?
Do you think he’s winking at us, MB.
He’s saying “Look at this shit, but I still get paid”
Compare the hair of this guy, a local SoCal wing-nut personality.
“It’s not a wig,” he’d say. Over & over.
I thought there might be a touch of the Palin a-winkin’ at us there.
Funny how the Holodomor is undisputably Stalin’s fault but put the blood of the countless millions the free market starved in India, China, and Ireland on the hands of the English political elite and you’re crazy.
And by ‘funny’ I mean ‘fuck you, clown’.
Also, in the grand scheme of things the deaths from both Mao and the Kuomintang are a direct result of the Boxer Rebellion, which had a long, terrible destabilizing effect on, among other things, the tenuous balance of power between Army industrialists and Navy economists in Japan, making the Marco Polo Bridge Incident inevitable. It’s part of what Matthew White calls the Eastern Hemoclysm (although he identifies it with the fall of the Manchu dynasty, which I think is a little too direct, like identifying the German declaration of war as the primary cause of WWI). The idea is that World War I and II and all the intervening civil wars and bloodshed are part of two massive, continuous, and largely separate conflicts that only occasionally interacted, mainly through the European colonial offices, the US, and Russia.
The Western ended with Stalin’s death (sputtering on in Spain and Portugal for a while longer) and the Eastern with Mao’s. We live in its shadow.
But see, history is my thing. I’m a cadet academic. I’m not trying to win an election in the backdrop of a historical defeat. If I were, I would not be talking about shit that happened before the audience’s grandparents were born. That would be stupid.
REMEMBER THE MAINE!!! ESTOS COLORES NO HAY SANGRAN
P. S.: I would bet big, big, big dollars that no one at Renew America gets a freaking penny for their crap.
Favorite bit of Yalta horseshit: the Wikipedia on ‘western betrayal’ was at one point legitimately indignant that the Czechs continue to use it to describe Munich instead of Yalta. Kind of speaks for itself, doesn’t it?
Those colors sure as fuck fade & fray when you leave them attached to your Hummer for five or six months.
Wow, he also continues the Vince Foster thing, too. Desperate much?
“Nope! No WMDs under there.” hehehe
Fuck you, Wes Vernon.
He looks like Phil Donohue’s evil closeted pedophile twin brother.
Why no threat to launch an investigation into the authenticity of Barack Obama’s birth certificate?
Silly libs. Don’t they know we only investigate obscure Arkansas real estate deals?
I’ll show you a truth commission
I think he meant, “You can’t handle a truth commission …”
To me, that visage says:
Im in yer tv, taking all yer Jeebus munnies
but that’s not to mean I’m looking at too many LOLcats.
I can quit whenever I want!
Wes Vernon is a Washington-based writer and veteran broadcast journalist.
dat funny
The fact is, li berals should be careful, because there bias is full of hate and if they want to “get” Bush and CHeney we in the Heartland will not stand.
WereBear, this one from yesterday is a keeper.
I’ve already found cause to use it.
I’ve always wondered if the renewamerikanzers got paid for their columns. One would like to think that anyone could be rewarded for being such awful thinkers and writers.
On the other hand, though, I need the money, and I betcha I could fake up one hell of a wingnut column for a little extra cash…
I think almost all of them are spoof writers. Renew America is about to become the new Onion.
“Getting even” with election losers is a time-worn tactic best known in the world’s most authoritarian regimes or banana republics.
It won’t even be close to “getting even”. Washington Dems aren’t built for that. Jordan’s faux-outrage is a standard wingnut distraction tactic. Or just a column idea.
What’s the worst that could happen to Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice, et al? They’ll have to answer a set of question, submitted in writing?
Are they worried about their reputations? That they’ll be called criminals, fuck-ups, monsters? Honest liberals have been saying that for years and it never caused a shiver, let alone a pause. They still have their base. This, and the knowledge that they kicked the crap out of the constitution, the UN and the world economy, will sustain them in their gated communities.
That man is his own caricature portrait. I swear.
Yes, Wes, you got us. We’ll back off, lest you exhume FDR’s corpse to cross-examine it for being insufficiently anti-communist.
…question[s]…
Also, what Greenwald said: If you’re going to be “tough on crime” and send non-violent petty offenders down for life, don’t be surprised when we want to send you down for violating a treaty that was ratified by the senate and is law.
Did somebody say Cadaver Synod?
Idiot pseudo-economist glibertarian Megan McArdle gets completely disassembled by real economist Dean Baker when she tries to argue that ‘government jobs aren’t jobs’, especially that the WPA jobs were not real, the government was ‘just paying people to do stuff.’
NYT Bloggingheads Video here.
Dean Baker gets blunt: ‘You don’t like these jobs, but you don’t get to say that these aren’t jobs just ’cause you don’t like them.’
Actually I think he meant, “Hey, watch it! I’m truth commissioning here!”
…or maybe it was “You want a piece of my truth commission? Huh? Do ya?”
Hey, you know, I wonder: If Bill Clinton had gotten blown by Michael instead of Monica, would the Republicans have even bothered to investigate?
On the other hand, though, I need the money, and I betcha I could fake up one hell of a wingnut column for a little extra cash…
I’m not convinced that Renew America isn’t made up entirely by people with this premise.
OK, maybe Carey Roberts. He might be legitimate.
How do you know he didn’t?
Well, I for one would like to know the results of the GOP investigation into Larry Craig and David Vitter.
Check this out, libs:
Founder of Islamic TV station accused of beheading wife
NEW YORK (CNN) — The founder of an Islamic television station in upstate New York aimed at countering Muslim stereotypes has confessed to beheading his wife, authorities said.
Muzzammil Hassan has been charged with murder in the death of his wife, Aasiya Hassan.
Muzzammil Hassan has been charged with murder in the death of his wife, Aasiya Hassan.
Muzzammil Hassan was charged with second-degree murder after police found the decapitated body of his wife, Aasiya Hassan, at the Bridges TV station in the Buffalo suburb of Orchard Park, said Andrew Benz, Orchard Park’s police chief.
Hassan was arrested Thursday.
His wife filed for divorce January 6, and police had responded to several domestic violence calls at the couple’s home, Benz said.
Hassan went directly to the police station after his wife’s death and confessed to killing her, Benz told CNN. Benz declined to give further details.
Attempts to reach an attorney for Hassan were unsuccessful, and his family didn’t return calls from CNN.
He launched Bridges TV, billed as the first English-language cable channel targeting Muslims inside the United States, in 2004. At the time, Hassan said he hoped the network would balance negative portrayals of Muslims following the attacks of September 11, 2001. [LOL!]
The station’s staff is “deeply shocked and saddened by the murder of Aasiya Hassan and the subsequent arrest of Muzzammil Hassan,” a statement from Bridges TV said.
“Our deepest condolences and prayers go out to the families of the victim,” the statement said.
He had two children, 4 and 6, with his wife. He had two other children, 17 and 18, from his previous marriage.
I think the best part of the column is :“Senator, are you there?…Hello? Anybody home?”
Because, Wes? No one’s paying attention to you.
Did George Bush get a blowjob from anyone? Did he conspire with ACORN to steal the election? Does he have any connections with drug smugglers from Arkansas or communists from Hawaii? No? Then I don’t see what the problem is here.
Let’s not waste valuable American tax payer dollars on frivolous and highly unconstitutional investigations when we could be spending them on government oversight of the failed Obama Administration. Ken Starr doesn’t pay for himself, after all.
… we in the Heartland will not stand.
Well, that’s fine, faux Gary. Shut up and sit down.
Did George Bush get a blowjob from anyone?
You mean, other than the collective MSM? If so EEEWWWWWWEWWWWWWWW don’t wanna know.
Hey, check this out, cons:
Wow, I guess this PROVES that all evangelical Christians really are subhuman, just like Dawkins says!
Oh yeah.
I went to read the False Wingnut Phil Donahue piece but got distracted by another headline on American Differently Abled Thinker:
Will al-Qaeda trade box cutters they used in 2001 for nuclear missiles in 2009?
If I could jump through the internets and answer that question to its face I’d say no, they were destroyed in the explosion. But assuming she doesn’t mean those specific box cutters, my follow-up question would be “wouldn’t that take more box cutters than there probably are”?
Anthony Hopkins, 37
Wow. He’s lived a tough life if he’s only 37 but looks as old as he did in Silence…
Interesting story. I find it odd that people who are supposedly of a religion of peace are so violent and all child-molesty.
Didn’t Seb and another guy do exactly this as a joke? I’m pretty sure they got their piece published at RenewAmerica, too.
Also, for more bonus psy ops, check out the Sadly, No! blog at TownHall. No, really. It’s there.
I’m back for now. And I’ll take 2 copies of Golden Wingnuts Vol. 1 while I eagerly await Vol. 2.
Whodathunk it? Another interview with a Palin hits the news!
Guess what! “Abstinence” doesn’t work!
Previously.
The Palins are more suitable for Gretawire, I think.
I watched an excerpt of the Bristol Palin interview this morning on the Today Show.
I pitied her. She kept looking off camera to her mom for coaching.
As Tbogg has noted, WTF is with Greta Van Sustern, is she stalking this family?
“Did George Bush get a blowjob from anyone?”
I have him pegged (heh, indeedy) as more of a bottom.
I find it interesting that Bristol and Levi haven’t married yet.
The family says they’re still together but they’re so involved in work and school they “have no immediate plans” to get married.
Conventional wisdom would say that it’s the responsibility of raising a baby that would distract a person from work and school – it’s the baby itself that tends to derail a person’s career development.
This is true whether one is married or unmarried – young people are frequently advised not to marry young even if they’re not pregnant, for fear they’d have children right away.
So if you already have the baby, and you’re continuing to tell the world you have a “great relationship” with the father who’s a “hands-on dad” – AND you’re religious and believe in the sanctity of marriage, why not get married? Why wait? Marriage isn’t the hard part, having the baby is.
If you believe all this, as the Palins do, why not get married before the birth so your kid is born under the blessing of marriage?
Now, I know perfectly well why a young girl with an illegitimate baby wouldn’t want to marry the father – and would be thanking her lucky stars that her family has enough money to support her continuing in school so she can better herself, and hopefully get away from the mouth-breathing red-neck who knocked her up.
But that girl wouldn’t be appearing on TeeVee shilling for her mom’s political career, gabble-mouthing a bunch of vapid values that aren’t consistent with what she’s actually doing.
Will al-Qaeda trade box cutters they used in 2001 for nuclear missiles in 2009?
If so, it will show that Cheney’s outing of Valerie Plame really was a bad idea.
But I’m guessing that they’re nowhere near getting nukes, and Cheney’s assholishness was still a bad idea.
Will al-Qaeda trade box cutters they used in 2001 for nuclear missiles in 2009?
I’m thinking that Al Qaeda is more the eBay type and will sell them there.
If so, it will show that Cheney’s outing of Valerie Plame really was a bad idea.
Plus, tactics. (Or, if you will, strategy.) Assuming you can even sneak the nuclear missile through security in your sock, how would you cut someone’s throat with it?
Interview coaching tips from Sarah Palin? That’s like getting football advice from the Detroit Lions. Why has that girl not been taken up by Child Protective Services?
I’m thinking that Al Qaeda is more the eBay type and will sell them there.
They should make them like the musical bottle openers. Every time you extend the blade it ululates loudly.
Erm. Maybe a really garbled soundclip should play with “Islam is the light!”
This requires a focus group.
Interview coaching tips from Sarah Palin? That’s like getting football advice from the Detroit Lions.
I was being polite. My instinct was that Sarah was holding a shotgun aimed squarely at Bristol’s head with the warning to answer as rehearsed.
Sounds like a wedding rehearsal.
Is that hair or is the top of his head throwing up?
And I find the sad sack passive-aggressive “you’d better not investigate WAR CRIMES because Leahy did some piddling stuff in the past that doesn’t EVEN BEGIN to compare and we might just have to point those out, too” argument less than compelling. Tell you what, when you discover Leahy has been responsible for torturing people to death we’ll try his ass, too, you amoral motherfucker.
Actually, her quote from the interview had some insight: people want to have sex. She assumes that her generation is randier than the one before, but that’s just the myopia of youth. Long time ago, people that age would have married pretty soon, so the relative date of marriage and the start of a sexual relationship could vary by a few months. This caused problems (ie people stuck with partners they chose too young), but hid the whole sex part. Once people started to have to spend more time getting educated, it fell apart. Enter stage right the pill.
It’s like Bristol is one small step from recognizing how contraception could have improved her life. Something everyone else learned nearly fifty years ago.
My own take is that Bristol, desperate to get away from her home life, got pregnant in the expectation that Hockey Fellow would marry her and take her away from all this. Which means Hockey Fellow is successfully resisting, despite the bribes lobbed his way. And I’m only outlining this from seeing it so often growing up.
When someone named Bouffant says anything about hair, I listen.
Which means Hockey Fellow is successfully resisting, despite the bribes lobbed his way.
Bribes? I figured they had him handcuffed to the boiler down in the Palins’ basement.
So let me get this straight: Bristol and Levi are still together livin’ in sin, fornicatin’ and whatnot, in front of their young babie, Trigg, but it’s all OK with the lookin’ fo’ a new label, Christian Right, because marriage, ya know, right now, would only interfere with their edgumactions and werkin’ hards to betta themselfs.
Never knew that some of the fundies 10 Commandiments had asterixes after them.
Sorry, that should be Tripp, not Trigg. Wonder how Trogg is doin’ with the Troops?
The Cold War
This is a war that cost over 100 million lives — with not an inconsiderable amount of bloodshed on the part of Americans who fought mainly in Korea and Vietnam.
I think mikey would be the first to tell this asshole that there was nothing Cold about Vietnam.
There’s some real comedy gold in ol’ Wes once you pull that string hanging out of his back … yes, there are still a few cretins who’ll proudly reference a mass-murdering ghoul like the Shah of Iran as America’s BFF … or imply that Jimmy Carter (?!?) is some kind of treasonous subversive.
Funny thing, though – he left out little trivial footnotes like Operation Phoenix (or the intentional bombing of dykes to induce famine) in Vietnam, support for Indonesia’s “Final Solution 2: Electric Boogaloo” in 1965 & its sequel genocide in East Timor, all those women & kids fragged in Nicaragua c/o Reagan’s Not-So-Secret-Team (an op that constituted VERY blatant treason &/or sedition … a criminal conspiracy for which Oliver North suffered the inhuman punishment of going on a million-dollar speaking-tour & becoming a FOX NEWS pundit), the mining of Managua harbor (an open & shut war-crimes case in the World Court at the time, which Reagan mocked & then ignored), the useless butchery of thousands on the Highway Of Death that marked the end of the Gulf “War” – & many many more … but I’m skeptical that any such hearings are on tap, even for Iraq alone. If they ever happen, I imagine it’ll be done in camera – or be conducted along the lines of South Africa’s Truth & Reconciliation Commission so as to lack any real legal teeth.
There’s just way too much guilt to go around on both sides of the House & Senate in regards to Operation: Enduring Payola & its grisly aftermath for the Dems to have much of a yen for a down-home Traditional All-American Witch-Hunt.
(sigh)
Because that is how many Americans died between 1947 and 1991?
They are hoping the film becomes as popular as the Paris Hilton tapes.
Which means Hockey Fellow is successfully resisting, despite the bribes lobbed his way.
I dunno. maybe I identify too much with her. I’m thinking he’s got more to gain by marrying her, what with her folks’ political power and earning potential. I’m thinking SHE’S the one looking at him, looking at Mom and Dad, seeing the same existence and going “Uh-uh. Don’t want to be tied down to that. Lemmee get that degree and get out of Alaska.”
Holy crap, he really does go to Yalta. Let’s uncover how FDR and Truman didn’t start a war with the Soviet Union! No one knows about that! I also enjoy how he cites Casper Weinberger as some sort of moral authority. It’s surely unrelated that he claims revealing anything about Iran-Contra was a heinous crime, but Iran-Contra itself was apparently peachy-keen.
g, me too. I feel sorry for the girl, with a mother like that. Jebus.
I hope she’s doing the math like you say, figuring out that maybe Hockey Boy isn’t all that and a bag of chips.
This is probably a dead thread, but this part of Vernon’s column ranked me:
Operation Keelhaul was carried out in northern Italy post World War II by American and British forces (from August of 1946 to May of 1947) to repatriate all Russian citizens who found themselves in the Allied zone to the Soviet Union. This maneuver immediately affected Soviet prisoners of war liberated by the Allies, but also extended to all Eastern European refugees. It included millions of anti-communists and civilians — mainly from the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia. Some of them committed suicide rather than face the Stalinist monstrous nightmare awaiting them.
After the allies assured these people that they would never be turned over to the Soviets, that was precisely their fate. In some cases, the immediate firing squad blasts were within earshot of the allied commanders who — acting on orders from on high — had betrayed the poor souls who trusted them (Yalta, signed by FDR, carried out by Truman).
Julius Epstein, in his book Operation Keelhaul writes, “That our Armed forces should have adopted this as its code name for deporting by brutal force to concentration camp, firing squad, or hangman’s noose millions who were already in the lands of freedom, shows how little the high brass thought of their longing to be free.”
My parents were Polish, and met while they were in a forced labor camp in Austria. After they were liberated by the allies, they went to Italy where my father joined a battalion of freed Poles who were affiliated with the army of newly-liberated Italy. After the war he and my mother emigrated to England, where they lived for 10 years, and finally to the US.
I remember my mother telling me that the Allies offered to repatriate her and my father back to Poland, but they declined, since they were young and wanted the adventure of traveling to new places.
If there really was a “forced repatriation” of Eastern European refugees, then my parents would not have had any choice but to return to Poland from Italy. I call bullshit.
Nothing fights truth more than political correctness.
“This is a war that cost over 100 million lives.”
The Left is so ignorant of life in their beloved Soviet Union that they don’t know Stalin killed more people than Hitler. That a million ordinary Russians were executed, that tens of millions died of diseases and malnutrition, that millions others died while being deported.
When someone named Bouffant says anything about hair, I listen.
Why thank you. I was once known as the Hairdresser to the Stars, snappy dresser & [redacted as it’s not that funny anymore]. That was a looooong time ago!
commie, there are quite a few sources that support this repatriation. Maybe your parents were lucky and met people who didn’t blindly follow official policy.
Vernon’s column is confused because he starts out by confining himself to the actual specific Operation Keelhaul — “carried out in northern Italy post World War II by American and British forces (from August of 1946 to May of 1947)” — which according to Wikipedia, involved about 1000 Nazi collaborators who had caught serving in Axis forces. This creates an impression of exactitude, academic probity and a command of the facts… destroyed in the next freckin’ sentence where Vern is using Keelhal in Epstein’s broader sense to cover all repatriations of “all Russian citizens who found themselves in the Allied zone”, i.e. “millions of anti-communists and civilians”.
That is, he cut-and-pasted from two sources — one talking about the Northern-Italy Keelhaul and the other about pan-European events — because he’s a doofus.
I can’t be arsed clicking on his column. How does he cope with Churchill’s contribution to Yalta? Can he bring himself to criticise that inerrant conservative icon, or is Churchill simply airbrushed out of the scene?
Thanks, Smut, I didn’t think it sounded quite right but didn’t spot where he jumped the rails.
Shorter Smut — it would be more convenient for Vernon’s argument if repatriations had involved “all Russian citizens who found themselves in the Allied zone” and “all Eastern European refugees”, so that must take precedence over the real-world experience of commie atheist’s parents.
Wow, that’s some picture…when did Judge Smails start posting on the Renew America site?
OK, I’ll bite – who the fuck is Wes Vernon?
But apparently you know so little that you don’t realize that most of those deaths caused by Stalin occurred before the Cold War. Try doing research on the Ukraine during the 30’s. So do you know how many deaths are attributed to the British rule in India?
My guess as to the 100 million is that it must include some high estimates from the Great Leap Forward. That could get him about 30 million although in real life the number was probably closer to 20 million. Although I have no idea what the Great Leap Forward had to do with the Cold War.
Here’s a tip if you really want to talk with the adults: Learn what people think by actually talking to the people you are “quoting.”
Repeating Mallard Fillmoresque talking points, using Free Republic as your main source, parroting political geniuses like Rush Limbaugh, Bill O’Reilly or Ronald Reagan: These are not techniques for reliable or honest or sane information.
If you don’t want to be mocked, you do have a little responsibility to not be so easily mockable.
Gavin,
It is very disturbing to see the background of Quaker Parrots behind dillweed.
Shit-for-brains superimposed over a flock of my (adopted) son’s relatives sucks.
C
Are looking for someone to surrender to?
(Hmm, according to liberals, the threat of Islamic terrorism isn’t real, a simple invention of Republican pollsters).
The truth is that if you stop using Methamphetamine, you will eventually retrun to almost normal.
You know who doesn’t like Clinton? You don’t. You know damn well this quote by his Secretary of State:
Lesley Stahl on U.S. sanctions against Iraq: We have heard that a half million children have died. I mean, that’s more children than died in Hiroshima. And, you know, is the price worth it?
Secretary of State Madeleine Albright: I think this is a very hard choice, but the price–we think the price is worth it.
500,000 dead Iraqi children is “worth it?” Well, then when are 500,000 dead American children “worth it?”
YOU know this. YOU choose to ignore what you know. YOU spin and spin and spin and spin for the Democratic wing of the Capitalist Party, because I guess that’s what all your friends expect or something.
So weak.
Dont’ be silly. 500,000 Iraqi children may die, because their government was corrupt. That is why it is worth it for them to die. Because the Free World is safe for Democracy now. Bill Clinton was a nice president, and so is Obama.
Well, then when are 500,000 dead American children “worth it?”
When stopping them from becoming dead involves anything to do with government paid health care. Better to let every American die than spend one dime on universal health!
I don’t know a single liberal who has ever said this.
But I do know of a number of GOP politicians who said this in the 1990s and right up until Sept. 10, 2001. People like John McCain and, Dick Cheney.
testing. please ignore me. i’m trying to figure something out in firefox.
this will work eventually.
really it will.
seriously. one of these times, formhistory will start behaving.
oh, could it be???
what the hell. i can bash my head on this all night.
my apologies to any feed readers. that hadn’t crossed my mind.
one more time
