Police found right-wing political books, brass knuckles, empty shotgun shell boxes and a handgun in the Powell home of a man who said he attacked a church in order to kill liberals “who are ruining the country,” court records show.

Knoxville police Sunday evening searched the Levy Drive home of Jim David Adkisson after he allegedly entered the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church and killed two people and wounded six others during the presentation of a children’s musical.

Knoxville Police Department Officer Steve Still requested the search warrant after interviewing Adkisson. who was subdued by several church members after firing three rounds from a 12-gauge shotgun into the congregation.

Adkisson targeted the church, Still wrote in the document obtained by WBIR-TV, Channel 10, “because of its liberal teachings and his belief that all liberals should be killed because they were ruining the country, and that he felt that the Democrats had tied his country’s hands in the war on terror and they had ruined every institution in America with the aid of media outlets.”

Adkisson told Still that “he could not get to the leaders of the liberal movement that he would then target those that had voted them in to office.”

Adkisson told officers he left the house unlocked for them because “he expected to be killed during the assault.”

Inside the house, officers found “Liberalism is a Mental Health Disorder” by radio talk show host Michael Savage, “Let Freedom Ring” by talk show host Sean Hannity, and “The O’Reilly Factor,” by television talk show host Bill O’Reilly…

Clearly this was all about his dissatisfaction with the church youth production of Annie, Jr., and that’s why Daddy Warbucks had to die.

As to no children being physically hurt, yes at least for that. But my daughter works at the university early-childhood learning center, and the 2-year-old sister of one of the children who was in the play is in her care group. She just got home from staying with the two girls in their home tonight so the parents could attend a candlelight vigil. The older girl, who of course was on stage and saw the whole thing, didn’t want to go. We have had thunderstorms all night, and at one point a thunderclap scared the girl so badly my daughter had to hold her close the rest of the night.

No physical harm, but traumatized and scarred for life nevertheless.

Ya know, because of nutcases like this, I have started packing heat when I go to church. I don’t tell anyone in my parish about it, but I am prepared for the event that if some evil bastard attempts to do the same, he will get a head full of lead in return.

When exactly did atheling start packing heat in church because of cases like this? It only happened a day ago. How comforting to know that he is worshippingn Jesus Christ while prepared to deliver a face full of lead to on the way back to his pew after communion.

This atheling character probably attends a church that will never be mistaken for liberal. In fact, he probably attends a church that fosters hatred for gays, liberals, Muslims, women, Jews…and probably more groups than that. But, you see, he’s a Christian, and those damned liberals (or gays or Muslims or black people or whatever) may one day sully his church with their presence, and because they’re “godless”, they’ll probably come with guns – prays that they come in with guns – so he can be the Super Awesome Uber White Male that he knows he is. What’s more holy than mowing down a few Muslims in Church? Surely that will get him on the short list to heaven and his 72 virgins.

The thing is, no one will enter his church and start shooting because he’s a conservative. He’s had this fantasy in his head, and it will never happen, because he attends a probably mostly white church promoting hate and “persecution”. And I’m sure he’s not the only one with such fantasies – he’s probably not the only one packing heat in church for that very reason. That’s really why all those other groups are a bunch of pussies, because they don’t come in and start shooting so he can be a hero. Too bad Mrs. Crawford’s child was caught in the crossfire – can’t you see atheling’s got a 12-foot dick? It’s not really “because of cases like this”, it’s because he fantasizes about it happening. Probably in church, even.

I have to say, when my local UU congregation held a “sex show,” it was really an educational session on LGBT issues for teens, where I talked about such sexy, scintillating topics as “how crossing your legs one way makes you look like a guy” and “that time someone laughed at my ID picture.”

Well, hearing multiple reprises of “Tomorrow, Tomorrow, I love ya, Tomorrow!” can understandably send someone round the bed.

I learned a valuable lesson when the Oklahoma City bombing happened. We had the radio on at work, and were listening to the reports coming in. I was incredibly upset; the whole thing was just such a terrible tragedy. There was this very nice older lady who worked next to me. I turned to her and said something like, “Oh, this is so sad!” And she looked at me rather uncomprehendingly and said something like, “Why? At least it’s just the government” or words to that effect.

I just sat there, stunned. It was then that I realized that some of my seemingly rational, kindly fellow citizens, were just wearing normal people masks, and underneath was this festering ugliness.

I also remember Mancow Muller laughing about 911, saying things like, “Whoa, that was so cool!” Right up until they found out it wasn’t an accident. Before that, it was like, well, it’s just lefty New York, y’all.

So the Malkin/Ace/Wankee reaction to this doesn’t surprise me. Monsters with people faces on.

Candy is unfortunately correct. These are monsters wearing human masks. They can’t even manage to hold together a pretense of feeling sorry that people were killed and injured and children were marked for life by this walking pile of suck and fail. None of this, of course, is surprising. It’s coming from the same people who called Rachael Corrie “St. Pancake” and who made jokes when Beth O’ Brien fell to her death from a tree-sit. It’s coming from the same people who wonder aloud why the police don’t use live ammo on protesters. The more I see them speak about things like this, the more certain I am that most of their feelings go beyond the realm of simple political disagreement and into “You should die for being who you are.”. I think the only thing on our side right now is the fact that most of them don’t actually have the guts to drop the hammer on another human being, or at least they don’t think they can do it and get away with it.
