More Wingnutty Katrina Commentary

Before I get to today’s wingnutty op-ed on Hurricane Katrina, I’d like to remind you to donate to the American Friends Service Committee (or any charity of your choice) to help the victims of the hurricane.

And now, on to business:

Today’s wingnut is WorldNetDaily’s very own Craige McMillan, who says that there wouldn’t have been looting in New Orleans if Louisiana’s public schools had taught their students about the Ten Commandments:

mcmillan.craige.65x86.gif

Mardi Gras minus the inhibitions

I’ve been reading about looting and watching the pictures from New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. So here’s my question: Do you think New Orleans would be better off right now if its public school system had taught all students the Ten Commandments as part of their secular education?

Probably not, since the city would still be, you know, fucking destroyed.

Or would such forthright exposure to religious indoctrination have so traumatized the little darlings that they might ? oh, say ? loot the city at the very first opportunity? The political left in America has never been able to overcome its touchy-queasy aversion to all things God.

Just like WorldNetDaily columnists have never been able to overcome their aversion to all things rational.

Make that the Judeo-Christian God. The occult is fine. Islam is fine. Buddha is fine. In fact, anything but the Bible God is fine. Well, as the pictures coming out of New Orleans demonstrate, there is a real-life price to be paid for America’s failure to teach the rules of the social contract.

Right, because we all know that elementary school teachers across the country are actively encouraging their children to steal. In fact, they even train their students in thievery with the help of an insrtuction video that features a lovable cartoon owl named Hooter the Looter:

cartoon_owl.gif
Above: Hooter sez: “Hoo, hoo! Hey kids! When there’s trouble in your village, it’s the perfect time to pillage!”

Unfortunately, the bill often comes due at the most inconvenient time. And it’s not always payable in money alone. The left’s touchy-queasy aversion even extends to common-sense Bible topics that would help students understand and prosper in America, topics such as the Ten Commandments. For how can one understand the difference between a legal system where the king’s word is law, and a legal system that holds the king to account for breaking the law? Lex Rex. Good luck in explaining it without God and the widely held belief that even the king is subject to God’s law.

I honestly have no idea what the hell Craige is talking about. I think he’s saying that before the Ten Commandments, there were no laws that prohibited stealing. (Sadly, No!) Not to mention the fact that our Constitution was based directly on the Ten Commandments, which is why people in this country are routinely jailed for coveting their neighbors’ oxen.

Without Lex Rex you’ll soon be licking another tyrant’s boots. For that has been the condition of the bulk of mankind throughout the bulk of human history. Public school teachers take note.

So if we don’t live under a Christian theocracy, we’ll eventually succumb to tyranny.

Aside from being something that Christians and Jews are obliged to honor “because God said so,” the seventh commandment ? “Thou shalt not steal” ? just makes plain good sense for everyone.

Well duh. Craige, I’m sure this will shock you, but every freaking country in the world has laws against stealing. And what’s more, they don’t need to justify them with the Bible.

A society depends upon each member doing his or her part to produce something of value. These items are then traded among producers (which we all are, often using money as an intermediary) to the benefit of everyone. We are free to become specialists of a sort, our craft and our products improve, and everyone benefits. Well, everyone except the thieves, who are constrained from practicing their “craft” by the strong moral condemnation of parents, teachers and, ultimately, police and jails.

In other words, thieves steal things despite the fact that they won’t benefit from it. Makes perfect sense to me.

A prosperous society can be built upon thrift ? it can’t be built upon theft. (Having said that, I suppose an enterprising economist somewhere will get a government grant to write a paper “proving” that those who steal from society ultimately contribute more to it than actual producers because of all the police, judges, lawyers and welfare workers who are hired by the state to “manage” the perpetrator’s “illness.” Note that such economists are not producers, they are con-men, which is to say slick-talking thieves.)

Y’hear that, Dr. Delong? You’re no better than the looters!

A society based on theft ? regardless of the pathetic moralizations that leftists, socialists and communists devise to support it ? can never be prosperous.

Well no shit, which is why there are no theft-promoting societies.

There’s two reasons why: First, theft deprives the industrious of the fruits of their labor, by taking what they produce without giving anything of value in return. It discourages them, and they reduce or cease production. Second, that same theft deprives society of the industriousness the thief should have contributed by producing something.?

But of course, what is all that when compared to the trauma a child experiences upon exposure in the public school system to concrete rules indicating what’s right and wrong?

Nothing compared to the self-inflicted trauma I experience from reading WorldNetDaily every day.

I wonder if Craige has a hate mail bage. He deserves one. Isn’t it (grimly) hilarious the way the Xtian theocrats think no one has morals except Bible toters?

Remember, before Moses came along, everyone thought stealing was a-OK.

“Hooter the Looter” is the single-greatest thing I have ever read on this site. It even beats out the trying to erase God post!

Hooter the Looter makes me want to go steal things. Is that so wrong? I think I’ll start with my partner’s chocolate stash.

Out of curiosity, what is it with the wingnuts and their insistence that all of us chicks and queers loves us the repressive Islam? Are they even serious? Does saying “You shouldn’t torture people because of their religion” or “That religion which hates the chicks and the queers is not fundamentally different from this religion that hates the chicks and the queers, so could you please stop referring to them as demons, as it is not helpful?” actually mean we luuuuurves Islam *or* Christianity?

Hooter the Looter makes me want to go steal things. Is that so wrong?

No, that’s his purpose! Now I just have to make up cute cartoon characters for the other nine sins… it’s gonna be tough coming up with a name that rhymes with “idolater” too, dammit…

… gator?

Yeah, because New Orleans, and the South in general, is the most secular area of America so we have to make sure kids get exposed to religion in school.

twig- that’s possible. “Iggy the Idologator” perhaps?

“So here’s my question: Do you think New Orleans would be better off right now if its public school system had taught all students the Ten Commandments as part of their secular education?”

Here’s my answer.

No.

Fuckwit.

God bless you for reading the Wingnut Daily so I don’t have to.

I confess I glossed right over the truly funny Hooter the Looter. Would Hooter the Looter agree with the statement: “Give a hoot! Stay in school!” Or is he of a different species of spokes-owl?

A prosperous society can be built upon thrift ? it can’t be built upon theft.

Interesting he should mention thrift. In economics, there’s something called the Paradox of Thrift that goes like this: if a few people practice thrift, the economy becomes stronger (as they have more money to spend on new goods), but it everyone practices thrift, the economy grows weaker (as demand is going down). So, you really can’t build an economy besed entirely on thrift – it’s actually a delicate balance of thrift, greed, and restraint.

Oh, one more thing – what does this asshole produce? The site doesn’t mention what he does, but my guess is that he isn’t building anything.

He is aware, isn’t he, that thousands of people still have no drinking water and no food? Is he really expecting them to stand patiently at the counter in knee-deep water, waiting until a cashier shows up or they starve to death, whichever comes first?

You missed the code, but Hooter is great.

thrift = tax cuts for the rich.
theft = taxing the rich.

This is to inform those who have been downloading free copies of New Orleans (In the Wake of Katrina) at http://www.drblt.com/NewOrleansK.mp3
that these copies are no longer free. Those who wish to download the song, must first donate to the hurricane relief efforts. I recommend Catholic Charities: http://www.catholic.or/ycvf/donate.php
however, a donation to any legitimate organization for their relief efforts in the hurricane-striken region will be acceptable. Donations will be based on the honor system. Yes, believe it or not, this right-winger trusts all of you, who (if you are on this site and are not a troll) probably lean to the left. Maybe you are suspicious of my motives as a songwriter, or as a right-winger. That’s OK with me, ignore the song, but, please give to a charitable organization of your choice for the victims of this devastating hurricane.

Laws are simply a legislative system making rules as to how people must deal with each other, no stealing, no murdering, no passing on a double yellow line, etc. Morals, on the other hand, generate from within the individual as to how he should deal with his fellow man. Morals are not and cannot be legislated. Parents and teachers using scripture as the source traditionally taught them. The Ten Commandments were given exclusively to the Hebrew people and were never meant for humanity in general but are still a good source for basic training in morality.

Yes, Marie, it’s obviously the mayors’ fault that the federal government didn’t fully fund levee improvements. Moron.

Holy crap! We have both Marie AND Dr. BLT on the same thread! Maybe I should leave a ping on Sondra K’s site so she’ll… on second thought, no. Not worth it.

I always think it’s amusing that the bafflewits who want the Ten Commandments in schools/courtrooms always focus on the prohibitions against stealing and murder, something that society already seems to emphasize enough. It’s the _other_ commandments, like the one where you’re only allowed to worship the xtian god, or the one where you’re not allowed to draw things that we think are nutso, guys.

“God knows our pain and suffers along with mankind. He has a divine plan to rescue people.”

Has he got any divine helicopters and field hospitals? Any divine MREs? How about some holy blankets? Sadly, no.

“Interview With Jesus Special Edition Movie”

That I have to see. And what got left out in the normal edition? The hilarious bit where Jesus fucks up the water into wine trick and turns it into vinegar?

Hey, Ms Apostrophe herself! Here’s a little tip Marie: When you write something, it should make more sense if you read it forwards than it does if you read it backwards. If it fails that test, then chances are it’s not what you call “a cogent argument.”

What the hell is an abdominal name? Pancreas? Did America’s Worst Mother have the new kid already?

If you mean “abominable”, Marie Jon’, tell it to Rush Limbaugh and Jonah Goldberg who are yukking it up over “Hurricane Katrina vanden Heuvel” and going on about how much fun headlines like “the poor and disabled are particularly likely to suffer from the effects of Katrina vanden Heuvel” would be.
Ha ha!

Mock Marie. Pee all over me, Dr. BLT. Gong my song. Just make sure you keep those charitable funds for victims of the hurricane-afflicted region coming in.

Katrina Was Not Always An Abdominal Name

Oh no she didn’t.

As for this dude, he can eat a dick.

Keep the insults coming, Anne. Anything bad medicine you can dish out to the doc, the doc can take. Just make sure you keep giving (and giving and giving) to folks in the hurricane-afflicted region.

Note to self: “Anything bad medicine…” above, should have read “any” bad medicine. Watch for the typo/spelling/grammar/geography Gestapo!

You’re all right, Doc ๐Ÿ™‚ And like I’ve said before, the tribute to Sadly, No! was touching.

Thanks, Brad. I am touched about the fact that you were touched.

I’m outa here. If I spend too much time at once on this site, I begin to be poisoned by the cyanide of cynicism. I’m in danger, however, of becoming addicted, so I’ve even considered starting a petition to have myself banned. Folks can’t seem to stand me as a one-man band, so maybe they would prefer if I became one man “banned.” That bad pun should be bad enough in and of itself to get me banned.

I wasn’t talking to you, Dr., nor do I care what you think.
I have, in fact, donated.

Looting Black Days in New Orleans
By Bob Parks

Why is this happening yet again? Of course the answer is clear: racism. At least if you talk to liberals.
Being one of the millions of law-abiding blacks in this country, I am tired of being embarrassed by the actions of a minority of thugs, thieves, and opportunists that are using the devastation of New Orleans as an chance to get back at The Man. Then again, they got back at the man in Los Angeles, and after certain teams won championships. Black people aren’t the only people who get caught up in mob hysteria, but in the latest episode in The Big Easy, we have a starring role.

What’s even worse are the media liberals who are falling over themselves to portray the looters as victims.

“People are breaking windows to get into stores. They are breaking open doors. They are taking whatever they want,” CBS News correspondent John Roberts said. “Police really don’t have the manpower to be able to deal with this. They are trying to tell looters to put things down in place, chase them away. We haven’t seen any arrests of looters.” In some cases it was hard to tell whether the looting was an act of desperation or common criminals, CBS News correspondent Lee Cowan reports.”

An act of desperation…?

Sure it may be desperation because the looters know what they are doing is a crime but they just don’t care. When Klansmen refer to blacks as animals, and can show numerous pictures of people of color going from store to store and stealing anything that can be physically removed, how does one counter that?

Where’s Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton? Where’s the condemnation from the NAACP and other so-called black leaders? Why do we only hear justification and understanding from liberals when black people act the fool?

I know… I know. I shouldn’t be airing our dirty laundry in front of white people. But I can’t stop CNN from showing that laundry on worldwide television.

“The looting prompted authorities to send more than 70 additional officers and an armed personnel carrier into the city. One police officer was shot in the head by a looter but was expected to recover, authorities said. In the city’s Carrollton section, which is on relatively high ground, looters commandeered a forklift and used it to push up the storm shutters and break the glass of a Rite-Aid pharmacy. The crowd stormed the store, carrying out so much ice, water and food that it dropped from their arms as they ran. The street was littered with packages of ramen noodles and other items.”

It’s hard to know what to say when I watch the video of black people, who claim to be victims of racism, running down the flooded streets with merchandise that doesn’t belong to them. It’s funny that America is constantly called a racist nation. If that were the case, these black looters would be shot dead. Instead, they run away with their ill-gotten booty just to probably later return for more, that is if anything’s left.

Poverty didn’t cause people to steal en masse. As designed, those looters have been told they’ve been kept down. They were told they will never have any opportunities in life. They were told they’ll never have the things that would make their lives complete. And guess who told them that? The very people who aren’t there now condemning this public display of lawlessness.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Liberals and Democrats have created the aura in the black community that they understand the problems and feel the pain. However, they never seem to have any medicine. They consistently deny blacks the opportunity to abandon the lousy public schools black politicians would never send their own kids to. They push blacks into experimental programs that result in teen pregnancy rates that would never be tolerated in the suburbs.

Yet they seem to almost expect blacks to behave like rabid animals in the face of disaster and find ways to make us feel that it should be expected.

“New Orleans’ homeland security chief, Terry Ebbert, said looters were breaking into stores all over town and stealing guns. He said there are gangs of armed men moving around the city. The Times-Picayune newspaper reported that the gun section at a new Wal-Mart in the Lower Garden District had been cleaned out by looters. Gunshots were heard throughout the night in Carrollton. Police spokesman Marlon Defilo said an officer and a looter were wounded in a shootout. Defilo had no word on their condition. Three or four others were also arrested, he said. One looter shot and wounded a fellow looter, who was taken to a hospital and survived. Staff members at Children’s Hospital huddled with sick youngsters and waited in vain for help to arrive as looters tried to break through the locked door, Blanco spokeswoman Denise Bottcher told the newspaper. Neither the police nor the National Guard arrived.”

Oh, and we have the almost uniform, scripted dig being mentioned on almost all the mainstream news outlets that the National Guard is missing in action. Of course, that’s because that bonehead George W. Bush has them all in Iraq. Democracy Now! hostess Amy Goodman is out amongst her peers lobbing gripes….

“President Bush announced he would cut short his vacation by two days and return to Washington today. He spoke on Tuesday in San Diego. “Right now our priority is on saving lives and we are still in the midst of search and rescue operations,” Bush said. During his appearance in San Diego he also took the time to briefly play guitar while with country singer Country Singer Mark Wills. Bush is expected to fly to Louisiana on Friday to tour parishes ravaged by the hurricane.

“Questions are also being raised if the federal government could have done more to protect the region from the deadly flooding. In 1995 Congress authorized the Southeast Louisiana Urban Flood Control Project. Over the past decade the Army Corps of Engineers has spent $430 million on shoring up levees and building pumping stations. But another $250 million in work remained. According to press accounts, the federal funding largely froze up in 2003. Over the past two years the Times-Picayune paper has run at least nine articles that cite the cost of the Iraq invasion as a reason for the lack of hurricane and flood control funding. Earlier this year President Bush proposed significantly reducing the amount of federal money for the project. He proposed spending $10 million. Local officials said six times as much money was needed.”

I think it laughable that liberal elitists like Amy Goodman, who constantly uses black music on her show bumpers to prove she’s one of us, would give a damn about the National Guard or anyone in uniform. I’ll bet she didn’t care for them much until Bushes occupied the White House. Now, all of a sudden, she gives a damn about the troops and that they should be in New Orleans and not in Iraq.

But back to the looting.

Black people in New Orleans should be made to understand that the whole world is watching. Any racism people may have is being justified every time they turn on their televisions. If you thought turning around the situation in the black community was tough then, wait until the Democrats you know and love so well, have to explain to their white constituents why they’ll need to provide additional tax money to help. And when the plea is balked at, don’t blame racism. Don’t blame Republicans. Don’t blame black conservatives who have moved on. Blame yourselves.

“On New Orleans’ Canal Street, dozens of looters ripped open the steel gates on clothing and jewelry stores and grabbed merchandise. In Biloxi, Miss., people picked through casino slot machines for coins and ransacked other businesses. In some cases, the looting was in full view of police and National Guardsmen. The historic French Quarter appeared to have been spared the worst flooding, but its stores were getting the worst of human nature. “The looting is out of control. The French Quarter has been attacked,” Councilwoman Jackie Clarkson said. “We’re using exhausted, scarce police to control looting when they should be used for search and rescue while we still have people on rooftops.” Sen. Mary Landrieu’s helicopter was taking off Tuesday for a flyover of the devastation and she watched as a group of people smashed a window at a gas-station convenience store and jumped in. At a drug store in the French Quarter, people were running out with grocery baskets and coolers full of soft drinks, chips and diapers.”

They should be ashamed, but Jesse will try and turn the shame on the rest of us who obey the law. This looting will be our fault. And aside from kissing Democrat ass, he will offer no new solution to poverty. Just excuses. Excuses that have run out.
$69.00 to get out of dodge by bus!
If you are a three PK cigarette a day person you could of gotten out. Where is the personal responsibility? The mentality of poverty comes from the socialistic Democratic mind! Shame on you and your ilk to allow people to feel the man keeps them DOWN!

Marie. What the hell. We don’t actually call YOU on the phone, do we? In fact, most of the time, you’re the one coming over here (not that we mind- you’re our favorite troll. Dr. BLT is second).

Why don’t these “Ten Commandments” fucktards agitate to punish adultery with prison sentences?

Letting gays have committed relationships under the law would destroy marriage and society — yet adultery isn’t even illegal.

When these jerks finally succeed and the Cult of The Zombie Jesus start fighting amongst themselves over how God wants the government run, now, that’ll be fun to watch. From another country.

I think Cadwalader the Idolater works OK.

This is the thing I think people tend to miss about the wingnut mindset.

The only thing that really matters to them is whether or not people are Christians. That’s it.

So, by their logic, everyone in New Orleans actually would be demonstrably, materially better if the 10 Commandments had been taught in elementary schools. If this had been done, it would (theoretically) increase the number of people in New Orleans who meet the wingnut definition of “Christian”, and that’s all that really matters.

The clearest example of this is in the wingnut attitude toward sex education in high schools. It’s been demonstrated a number of times that teens who get comprehensive sex ed are more consistent about using birth control – which leads to a lower level of unplanned pregnancies and thus fewer opportunities for abortion.

Now, wingnuts hate abortion, so you’d think they’d be all over anything that reduces the number of abortions. But they hate sex ed in schools. How does one make sense of this?

Well, you can’t if you assume that what they really hate is abortion. But you sure can make sense of it when you assume that the only fricking thing in the whole world they actually care about is whether or not everybody in the whole world is a Christian like them. Thus, there are only two types of people in the world for them when it comes to sex – chaste people (which includes married, monogamous people) and fallen people. And fallen people deserve punishment.

So, if you get an STD, or an unplanned pregnancy – or die a horrendous death from dehydration, unsanitary conditions and lack of medical in the richest fucking nation on the planet – it’s just what God does to sinners like you. Sympathy is reserved for the redeemed and the elect.

It’s like that time when Jesus confronted the woman taken in adultery and gave her a lecture on how she should have taken more personal responsibility for her lifestyle.

Or something.

I wish to Jebus these poltroons would go found their own country where they won’t have to be offended by the presence of the unwashed heathen masses anymore.

You know what? An awful lot of people in New Orleans are going to die over the next few days while our government sorts its shit out. And as an aside, I really miss James Lee Witt. But honestly, if they steal some beer and some Ho-Hos in the meantime, I don’t give a fuck. I seriously, sincerely do not.

I just wish we could fucking save their lives. I profoundly wish all those alleged TVs being looted could be sold to get these people busses out of there. I hope to God the car batteries people are accusing “them” of stealing help people get to safety. If people have to steal actual cars to get themselves and their families and their neighbors to high ground, fine.

I mean it. I’m fine with that. If people have to break into pharmacies for drugs because wading through shit- and corpse- filled water is making them sick, or even for tranquilizers for the teenage kid who just watched mom die and is freaking out because they had to leave her body somewhere and they don’t know if they’ll ever get it back for burial, I’m okay with that, too.

I find it unlikely that a lot of people are staggering through five and six feet of water carrying wet electronics equipment they can’t plug in anywhere and can’t sell, to be honest. I’m sure some are, but I doubt that’s the majority of what’s going on. And even if it is, so what?

The water isn’t going to recede fast enough to save the goods in the stores. And to all of you who are going on about shooting looters, fuck you. I mean it. There’s no goddamned death penalty for stealing a stereo system, do you understand?

I’d rather see the inadequate numbers of Guardsmen and police left in the city protecting *people* from actual violent crime, not bothering with property crimes.

If that makes me a moral relativist, or a liberal bleeding heart, or a criminal coddler, or an amoral godless bastard, I’m fine with that, too.
As someone else noted, it is utterly insignificant compared to the looting being done by US companies in Iraq.

Gee, this McMillan guy forgot to jump on the Repent America bandwagon, ‘cos the widespread looting is but a mote in the eye compared to the danger of potential gay festivals. Perhaps he should have amended that bit to be Lex Rex Sex. Ahh… much better.

However, if he had any idea what he was talking about, he would know that not stealing is also part of the Noahide Laws, specially designed by post-Maimonidean rabbis for those gentiles who wish they were Jews but are too lazy to learn all 619 mitzvot.

Amen, D. Sidhe, A-fucking-men.

How about the Graven Raven?

First of all, Hooter the Looter and his slogans are officially on the list of Top Ten Funniest Things I Have Ever Encountered, so as your friend, I congratulate you. ๐Ÿ™‚

Also, speaking of Mardi Gras I was thinking the other day that it would be pretty kick-ass if there were a fundraising charity wherein people could flash, but instead of getting beads, they would get money, which would be donated. This is what happens before I have my coffee in the morning.

Actually it seems Mr. McMillan is the victim of his own religious indoctrination with regards to the commandments laid out by the ‘Judeo-Christian God’. Note that phrase is not in alphebetical order, the Jews were the ones who first recognized the one god. And Moses brought down the commandments from god FOR THE JEWS. No one else. The Jews.

Everyone else, should they decide to worship the God of Abraham need only follow to 7 Noachide laws, or the Laws of Noah. Adhereing to these laws do not ensure salvation, or a trip to heaven or anything else. They are simply rules of the road as handed down by the big guy for our own benefit.

“Seven commandments were the sons of Noah commanded: (1) concerning adjudication, (2) and concerning idolatry, (3) and concerning blasphemy, (4) and concerning sexual immorality, (5) and concerning bloodshed, (6) and concerning robbery, (7) and concerning a limb torn from a living animal” — (Talmud Sanh.56a).

Should our schools teach children that it’s not cool to steal or kill or rape? Something tells me there are things in place that discourage that mentality already. Should that be taught within the context of a Christian Bible 10 commandments? Not on your life.
