“I don’t know where it’s supposed to have occurred, or when, nor do I have access to the tape or believe I ever will, but this will surely destroy Obama and his racist supporters! How dare they not go to a good, ‘vanilla’ church?!”

I only looked at his a site a few times over the years, but it was usually in the context of where he was saying something good about the Valerie Plame issue (I think, might’ve been Abu Ghraib). Sad to see that the guy is a raving idiot.

Larry Johnson is not a progressive, a liberal, or a Democrat. He never claimed to be. He’s a Republican ex-CIA operative who had some inside-baseball gripes with the currently dominant Republican faction. And he decided to “support” the Democrats for strategic reasons in order to further his own agenda.

That’s as far as his “commitment” to the Democrats has ever gone. For obvious reasons, he found the Clintons more congenial tools for furthering that agenda than Obama would be.

I imagine most of his commenters have never been authentic Democrats any more than he is.

None of them ever would have supported a candidate who might challenge the prerogatives of the military and the intelligence services.

So who cares what they think. Why waste any time on this opportunistic GOP weasel?

henry – LJ claimed that the Republicans had a tape that showed Michelle Obama making racist comments. He knew people who knew people who had seen the tape. When that stopped getting him hits on his site, he started added details. When the details started getting disproved, he started changing the details and hinting at release dates. When the dates passed and the changes got disproved too, he started yelling at people who were challenging his facts. Of course this tape exists and of course no one has seen it. It wouldn’t be an October Surprise if it came out now. TRUST ME!

Looks like he’s just as much a tool as the rest of the wingnuts.

They are now claiming that the Michele Obama thing happened at the Rainbow Coalition Women’s Luncheon, which is just patently unbelieveable. If you read the program carefully, you can see that the moderator of the panel is identified as someone from “ABC 7.”

Yeah. That would be local news affilliate WLS-TV 7. And, oh look, the keynote speaker was Jesse Jackson. And Michele Obama wasn’t on a panel, she was just a special guest.

So, if you are keeping score, the story now goes something like this:

“In June 2004, at a Rainbow Coalition women’s luncheon, Michele Obama, the wife of a state senator who was running for U.S. Senate, went off of a racist rant in front of the anchor of a major market news affilliate and Jesse Jackson. Everyone at the luncheon swore a death pact never to reveal what had happened, so it was covered up for four years. Despite the death pact, someone made a video of the rant. This person, who clearly must have something against Michele Obama and/or her husband, did not give the video to Barack Obama’s opponent in the U.S. Senate race. Nor did she give it to Hillary Clinton’s campaign during the 2008 presidential primaries. Instead, being profoundly prescient, she has been sitting on it, waiting for Barack Obama to become the Democratic nominee so that she can give it to the McCain campaign and hand the 2008 presidency to the Republican party.”

    Right…

The Clintons HAVE been warriors against the hardocre conservative movement. Is it a silly “war” image? Sure. Not even close to “deranged” though. “Deranged” is the wailing about Clinton being robbed; that Obama supporters hate women; that ALL of Michigan voted for Hillary; that Obama is a communist Muslim who hates white people; and blah blah blah blah.

Praising the Clintons for being hard-asses and tough politicians is merely stating the obvoius. Hillary would have been tough as nails against McSame. But she lost. Narrowly. There has to be a place for the Clintons in the Dem machine because they are tough fucking advocates for worthy causes.

What if it’s just a slightly poetic turn of phrase? It expresses her satisfaction that both Clintons have been able to consistently win against Republicans.

What good points did both sides have? Obama’s foreign policy is better than Clinton’s, in my eyes, since he expresses readiness to talk with countries like Iran or Cuba. On the other hand, Clinton had a much more well-defined, well-thought-out health care plan than anything Obama put forward. In my mind, stopping wars trumps fixing healthcare, so I preferred Obama.

You don’t like the DLC/James Carville faction of the Democratic party? Fine. Doesn’t mean they’re ‘deranged’.

Speaking for myself, I doubt these rumors are true for the simple reason that Trinity United’s videos went out on a live feed, which is why Rev. Wright’s more offensive statements were so widely available. However, it appears that you strongly believe in the actual existence of this tape and that it will bring down Barack Obama.

I come to you with a proposal to make this disagreement interesting. If you so strongly believe that the tape in question exists, I offer a wager between us both. The stakes are as follows: whoever loses the bet has to kiss the posterior region of the winner. If this tape, as you describe it, airs between now and November, you win. If it does not, I win.

    Additional guidelines:
    1) If Michelle Obama is on tape railing against “whitey”, that is sufficient. Louis Farrakhan does not have to be present for you to win.
    2) If Mrs. Obama simply appears in some live feed with Farrakhan, it is a wash.
    3) If Mrs. Obama is simply quoting somebody saying “whitey” without endorsing such a description, again, it is a wash.
    4) If Mrs. Obama appears in the tape saying, “Why’d he…” as opposed to “whitey”, I win. Poor hearing does not make you a winner.
    5) The timing and location of the wager’s payment will be negotiated after the winner is determined.
    6) Both parties may seek to negotiate some other means of payment at any time, but if the winner demands that their buttocks to be kissed, that ends all negotiations.
    7) Whether or not said buttocks are covered with pants or underpants is at the discretion of the winner.
    8) The winner must maintain proper hygiene at the time of the wager’s settlement, however, the loser cannot object to cosmetic unpleasantries such as excessive hair.

I look forward to your response and hope that you put your money where your mouth is, and I expect that if you do, I will be putting my posterior in the same place.

    Sincerely,
    Sean C.

I’m flabbergasted by this line of argument. Are we talking about the Hillary that praised McCain (in order to denigrate Obama) for having proven Commander-in-Chief bona fides? The Hillary that saw McCain pandering on the gas tax holiday thing, and said, I gotta get me some of that action, too?

Are we talking about the same Clintons whose national career emphasizes that the most enduring lesson they’ve learned, politically, is “Never lose by being weak on your right flank?” Have we already forgotten about the DLC? The Clintons are leaders of the Democratic faction that believes, to its core, that the Left (and association with it) is a bigger threat than the Right, and that it’s good strategy is to find leftist scalps to take whenever you feel you need to shore up your electoral position.

He failed — didn’t mean he didn’t want to succeed. The Republicans controlled Congress for most of his presidency. He had no coattails and thus no ability to delivery on promises.

If we assume that all three have really wanted to do what they promised, there’s still no reason to believe that Hillary would be able to do any better than Bill. I just don’t think she’d be capable of campaigning in the general without doing that triangulation/tack right/attack left/only-swing-states-count thing. She’s been beat down by the right too many times to comprehend that there’s any other way, and her way just cuts the heart out of any real progressive momentum.

There are about two inches of difference between Clinton and Obama in policy terms. In terms of political style, though, it’s a different story. My sense is that Obama hasn’t learned the same set of toxic lessons about pandering-right-by-attacking-left that the Clintons have, or learned them as deeply. (I’m prepared to be disappointed, though.) And I think that Obama will enter office more beholden to a left-ish activist base, by far, than Clinton would have (remember her disparaging comments about the caucuses and the activist presence there?)–he will thus be more pressurable from the left than Hillary’d have been.

I don’t hate Hillary, but I dislike the political tendency she represents and has represented throughout her national career, and want to see that tendency defeated. And I prefer Obama only to the extent that he’s not beholden to the DLC tendency, and may be more useful for a progressive agenda (even though it’s not his own agenda). Beyond that, yes, we’re basically talking about the narrow differences between two center-right establishmentarians.

Probably so. All a person can do in life is play the odds. There have been a few hopeful signs where Obama is concerned, and so I’m very cautiously optimistic. For example, if he does anything, anything at all aimed at getting big lobbying money out of politics, however small the progress it will be better than the whole lotta nuthin’ we’d see out of almost anyone else. And if I’m gonna get screwed, I’d at least like to have it be someone who will buy me a drink first.

McCain would just call me the c word and tell me I’m wearing too much makeup. Clinton would expect me to be grateful for her being nicer about it than McCain, and I would be grateful, which is really sad. And now that I’ve beaten this metaphor to death . . .

News items like this abound today in the Canadian press

    Clinton ‘graceless’ in losing nomination
    Mary Vallis, National Post

Even after Hillary Clinton’s fate seemed certain, even after her supporters admitted Barack Obama would be the Democratic presidential nominee, even after the final votes had been tallied and she had lost, Hillary Clinton kept on talking about herself.

In a speech that perplexed supporters and gave no hint of her political future on Tuesday night, Ms. Clinton made only a few perfunctory remarks about the man who will lead the Democrats’ war against John McCain in the next election. She called Mr. Obama a “friend” and congratulated him on running an “extraordinary race” — without ever overtly acknowledging he had beaten her in the fight for the nomination, or recognizing the historic significance of his achievement.

Ms. Clinton briefly praised Mr. Obama’s ability to inspire Americans about politics. Her speech then turned inward, to her own reflections from the campaign trail and personal hopes for the future of the United States. She even mused aloud, “What does Hillary want?” and then launched into a recap of why she had entered the race.

“She came across as graceless,” said Anne Sowden of Here’s Looking at You Image Consulting in Toronto. “She’s going to alienate a lot of people because she hasn’t got the grace or the courage to say, ‘I lost.’ ”

Many expected her to concede. She did not.

Some observers say Ms. Clinton is demonstrating lack of dignity in the face of defeat. Others characterize her words as an outright denial that she has finally lost. Whichever is the case, Ms. Clinton’s words are helping keep the spotlight squarely on herself, rather than the Democratic party’s new presidential nominee.

“The expectation was that she was going to concede and unite. By talking about herself, that wasn’t uniting,” said Kathi Elster, a New Yorkbased management consultant and co-author of Working With You Is Killing Me. “She didn’t do the two things we all expected, and we’re kind of perplexed.”

Ms. Clinton’s words feed an image of her and her husband as egotistical and self-obsessed — an ambitious couple who care only about their own political futures, rather than what is best for the Democratic party. Even before Tuesday night’s results rolled in, observers warned that their response to the results could affect their political standing.

“Will they be seen as party unifiers and team players, or party wreckers and sore losers?” asked Charlie Cook, editor and publisher of the Cook Political Report.

“In the long haul, if the Clintons handle this right, she can strengthen her position in the party and he can begin the rehabilitation of his own place in the party. Handled badly, neither will ever be able to fully recover.”

It’s a pretty big tell when you clowns go from OBAMA SUX GO HILLARY! to Eh, whatever, we should all vote for McCain! That’s the ticket! in a matter of hours.

Indeed. That is why I wonder, when you see “Nearly a quarter of Clinton supporters say they will back McCain instead of Obama in the general election”, what the percentage of Democratic Clinton supporters is who would do so.

Just a note to the astroturfing ratfuckers on Hillis44 (about 90% of their posters): It’s a pretty big tell when you clowns go from OBAMA SUX GO HILLARY! to Eh, whatever, we should all vote for McCain! That’s the ticket! in a matter of hours. You frauds could have at least pretended to think it over during the course of the week and then made your decision. But no, you blew your load too early.

It’s not like its hard to figure out how it’s done. Just watch O’Reilly, Scarbo, etc. decide who they’re voting for in the general. They waver this way and that all the way up to mid October before some minor incident “convinces” them that the Democratic candidate is a recipe for disaster.

Pam doesn’t have a speaking role in BtVotD, and is possibly not even seen in it at all (she’s an extra at Z-Man’s party). Trust me, I’ve scoured that flick lookin’ for her, and I can’t find lovely hide nor luxurious hair of her.

She is my Senator. I campaigned for her in 2000. By the time I voted for her re-election I was holding my nose and cursing under my breath.

I don’t even claim that such a video exists, but the very possibility that Pam Grier may have appeared in a role that didn’t involve prison means that I was right all along. For example, Escape from LA rocks like a Peppermint Alarm Clock made of pleather, and there’s also the implication that Hershe’s transformation isn’t, you know, complete…umm..what was I saying again?

By the way, I visited No Quarters But I Got A Few Nickels In The Ashtray to see what Agent Flowbee Johnson was up to, since I really had never done that before, I just never wasted my time.

When asked about ‘teh video’, Obama replies unequivocally:

We have seen this before. There is dirt and lies that are circulated in emails and they pump them out long enough until finally you, a mainstream reporter, asks me about it,” Obama said to the McClatchy reporter during a press conference aboard his campaign plane. “That gives legs to the story. If somebody has evidence that myself or Michelle or anybody has said something inappropriate, let them do it.”

Okay, an Earthly reader might conclude that a direct denunciation followed by a challenge to produce whatever it is, might be good enough.

Ha ha! Agent Johnson, however, sees through it:

Huh? Are you kidding me? If it ain’t true say so.

But when a politician tap dances on nuance–Baby it is true. My sources have not backed off. They maintain they have a tape and will drop it on the Dems in the fall. Now if Barack said, “No, and hell no” I would be wondering about my sources. But he punted. He went for the weasel word. The non-denial denial.

I’d like to say this was sad, but given the kind of paranoid bullsh*t I’ve watched CIA types pull throughout Central and South America for the last few decades (“We have discovered a secret plan where the Sandinistas will kidnap your children from school and impregnate them with Russian babies!”) and the sh*t which still issues forth daily from the cesspool of Miami’s rightwing Cuban exile nutbags, it’s not surprising at all. Not at all.

Oh, come now, not even an mba, you’ve been consistently riling up the commenters on your site, preparing them for yesterday’s release of the alleged footage of Pam Grier in BtVotD. Then when yesterday comes and goes, you start spilling some bullshit story about how Tamara Dobson is now in possession of the tape waiting for an “October Surprise,” and that it had been in the grubby little mitts of Antonio Fargas all this time. I mean, how many variations of this story have you told? First, it was Pam at Z-Man’s party, and it was the DVD. “You can see her plain as day in the movie, and she delivers a five-minute oration about hot tubs and mayonnaise” were, I believe, your words. Then it was in the *outtakes* on the DVD. Then it wasn’t the DVD itself, but some bootleg VCD from China that had been available for download from Pam’s campaign site, and she wasn’t at Z-Man’s party, but in the Carrie Nations’ recording studio montage talking it up with Kelly MacNamara. Then it was some Greek VHS release, and she was at the high school dance in the beginning of the movie selling Pet some weed. And this legion of asshats reading your site continue to buy your line of bullshit?

So, who exactly is she again? Just the most obnoxious, made-for-teevee Hillary ‘supporter’ at the meeting last weekend?

Larry’s blog has been overrun with wingnuts pretending to be Democrats. Democrats don’t sit around whining about being the victims of reverse racism – that’s almost exclusively a manifestation of wingnut paranoia.

I get why loyalists would want to cling to this meme. I get why we feel strongly enough about our country and our candidates that we will insult our freinds, brothers and countrymen. What I don’t get is if this tape was for sale on Liberty Church’e website, and we assume some people bought it, Where are all of the public copies? Someone at that church could make a quick buck off of it. Or, having hacked the purchase records, breaking and entering is not unheard of in presidential politics. For a DVD to be shot, edited, authored, produced, manufactured and marketed, more than a few peopl must be involved. We aren’t talking about the kind of people that assasinated JFK, just regular folk. If the church had it, they still do. If so, the Obama campaign knows exactly what is on it. So do many other people. Some one of those people, IMHO, would be pro- or anti- Obama enough to make it public, or have it re-edited and make the revision public. I just don’t get why the only evidence of the content is a blogger saying he knows 5 people that know someone that saw it.
