You need a theme song. How about this one?

One Hand on my Bible/the Other on my Gun
Dr BLT: words and music by Dr BLT
http://www.drblt.net/music/OneHandRegDem2.mp3

I've Got on Hand on my Bible/the other on My Gun

Dr BLT

words and music by Dr BLT © 2008

I got one hand on my Bible
the other on my gun
you say that I've been bitter
so you'd best be on the run
no, don't you test my patience
'cause my patience is nearly done
I got one hand on my Bible
The other on my gun

I got one foot on your grave stone
the other on the ground
I'm rooted in the music of the Bakersfield Sound
and when you step upon this soil
well, at best, you'll soon be shunned
I got one hand on my Bible
the other on my gun

I'm bitter as the blues
bitter as the soles beneath
these beat up cowboy boots
you know where I came from
all we see's the settin' sun
I'm bitter as the blues
bitter as the soles beneath
my bitter cowboy boots
I got one hand on my Bible
the other on my gun

I got one hand on my Bible...
the other, on my gun

I gotta say, those Soviet photo editors were pretty damn good. No PhotoShop, and it still looked legit.

Not only that, they made Stalin look taller, younger, and slimmer while they were at it.

You really gotta appreciate propaganda that goes that extra mile.

Krassen notes:

Q If only to change the subject. Do you have anything on the vote on the cluster munitions?

MS. PERINO: The what?

I fucking love this. This is what the press should do from now on, only instead of asking her about real things she doesn't know about, MAKE IT UP. Thus:

Q: Has there been any update on the Hypnosis Squad?

MS. PERINO: The what?

Q: The Hypnosis Squad. Has it been funded?

MS. PERINO: I'm sorry--what--?

Q: The team of trained hypnotists Secretary Rice plans to send into the West Bank to restore peace.

(etc.)

One after another. Let's see her keep her Icy Blonde Cool (tm) then.

Oh, yeah, and: RICH NOYES? Is that from Scripture? "Make a rich noyes unto the Lord, all ye lands"?

There are several important differences between Scott McClellan and Nikolai Yezhov, however, and one of them was that Stalin was smart enough to have Yezhov shot before he could write a book. Oh yeah, and Scott is a little taller than Yezhov.

And here I thought it just meant Stalin pushed him into the river.
You know, like Bush would do - he'd call him Yekky Yezhov and push him in, and the press corps would laugh and laugh and laugh.

JOHN adds: McClellan was a lousy press secretary. A much better spokesman, Tony Snow, once told me that the best thing about his job was the opportunity to follow President Bush around and observe his conduct of the Presidency. Tony said that he came away with a deep appreciation of President Bush’s character, judgment and knowledge of the issues. Unless McClellan can come up with some facts to back up his claims–facts have been notably absent from the press accounts I’ve seen of his book–I think Tony’s assessment is considerably more reliable.

IOW - Tony Snow is more believable because he appreciates Bush’s character. McLellan, who does not appreciate Bush, will have to provide facts. Facts, therefore, are tertiary arguments. A much better argument would be for McLellan to say that Bush did everything right, because that is the most powerful argument of all.

It doesn't even make fucking sense. "Tony's assessment" relates to his own experience of meeting Bush, and therefore has nothing to do with what McLellan is talking about. I don't imagine Scotty wrote anything about Tony Snow's experience of meeting Bush.

A steaming log of non-sequiturial stupid, knowingly hurled in the hope that no one will notice or bother to complain. IOW, Wingnut Debating Techniques 101.

Scott McClellan resigned as White House press secretary this morning. I think McClellan has done a capable job, and it's probably wishful thinking to imagine that the President would appoint someone who would take a more combative attitude toward the White House press corps. To be fair, McClellan has sometimes pushed back. But I think there is a lot of room to take a more aggressive approach.

MS. PERINO: Where was the vote?

Q It was today, and it was in — I want to say Brussels, maybe The Hague.

Actually it was Dublin.

This little exchange says so much about what the media itself gets out of the Cheney/Bush administration's vision of post-totalitarian information control. It makes life so much easier. Nobody needs to know anything but what the Dear Leader says.

You don't know the difference between the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Bay of Pigs? Well we have no idea where a major diplomatic meeting is taking place (though we could guess that it's in one of those smallish Euro cities that does international-related things). Oh, to heck with it. What do you want us to print?

A-L, continuing with the seriousness, I've been thinking about the same. There are three stages that one can contemplate:

1. Purge. This seems like a no-brainer, you need to clean-up the government structures of all these frauds, hacks, and morons - put there for their loyal Bushiness - so that the country can function.
Yet, it is laborious! It's not like people wear giant "I am an incompetent Bushie" signs around their necks. There were appointments that were legit, unquestionably, it will take effort to sort it out.

2. Process and Justice. If step One was laborious, Step Two is a nightmare. How do you dig up all the evidence? How deep you go in the apparatus? How do you deal with all the screams of "persecution!" and "McCarty-ism" and the related psychodrama that will inevitably ensue? This country likes to thrive on forward-looking optimism not on digging through the dirty underwear from yesteryear. Yet, I agree with you, this IS a necessary step, but NOT for the reasons you describe.
This is such an unprecedently bitter and angry time in America that if the next Administration does not sort this out, I am afraid that Step Three will become a reality.

3. Angry mob justice, where Republicans, CEOs, financial managers and the likes are publicly beheaded and dragged through the streets, and the next President is someone like the guy with the mustache in the picture above and the whole cycle begins anew...

What I'm wondering is, with all the redacting they do of any book a former member of this administration wants to do, how did any truth make it into McClellan's book? Or should I say, how did any remain in it?

This administration & this war will be the long-term project of the right to rehabilitate as legend and blame all failures on teh libruls, just like it was their goal with Nixon and, more importantly, the U.S. war on Indochina. Reagan's little wars, direct and indirect, were there to help lead us up to Gulf War 1, which finally 'cured' us of the 'Vietnam syndrome,' and Gulf War 1 was there to lead us up to Gulf War 2, which, ironically enough, may help rid us of the Reaganism which brought us here in the first place.

Srsly, though, Snorhagen and the others are correct -- we need to take all the testimony these miserable sniveling fourth- & fifth-echelon crapweasels churn out in defence of their own indefensibility before a Truth & Reconciliation Committee. Then we can start tweezing out a coherent narrative history of the last eight or ten or thirty years, going back to when the fourth-echelon Watergate crapweasels like Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld decided that the lesson behind Nixon's Tragedy was not "Don't be evil traitors to the Constitution" but "Don't get caught when you decide to use the Bill of Rights as toilet paper."

If we don't keep pushing such a Truth *then* Reconciliation Committee, 30 years from now our grandkids will be crippling themselves cleaning up after President Jenna and VP Mary Cheney... if we're lucky.
