You know, like Bush would do – he’d call him Yekky Yezhov and push him in, and the press corps would laugh and laugh and laugh.

IOW – Tony Snow is more believable because he appreciates Bush’s character. McLellan, who does not appreciate Bush, will have to provide facts. Facts, therefore, are tertiary arguments. A much better argument would be for McLellan to say that Bush did everything right, because that is the most powerful argument of all.

It doesn’t even make fucking sense. “Tony’s assessment” relates to his own experience of meeting Bush, and therefore has nothing to do with what McLellan is talking about. I don’t imagine Scotty wrote anything about Tony Snow’s experience of meeting Bush.

Scott McClellan resigned as White House press secretary this morning. I think McClellan has done a capable job, and it’s probably wishful thinking to imagine that the President would appoint someone who would take a more combative attitude toward the White House press corps. To be fair, McClellan has sometimes pushed back. But I think there is a lot of room to take a more aggressive approach.

This little exchange says so much about what the media itself gets out of the Cheney/Bush administration’s vision of post-totalitarian information control. It makes life so much easier. Nobody needs to know anything but what the Dear Leader says.

You don’t know the difference between the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Bay of Pigs? Well we have no idea where a major diplomatic meeting is taking place (though we could guess that it’s in one of those smallish Euro cities that does international-related things). Oh, to heck with it. What do you want us to print?

1. Purge. This seems like a no-brainer, you need to clean-up the government structures of all these frauds, hacks, and morons – put there for their loyal Bushiness – so that the country can function.
Yet, it is laborious! It’s not like people wear giant “I am an incompetent Bushie” signs around their necks. There were appointments that were legit, unquestionably, it will take effort to sort it out.

2. Process and Justice. If step One was laborious, Step Two is a nightmare. How do you dig up all the evidence? How deep you go in the apparatus? How do you deal with all the screams of “persecution!” and “McCarty-ism” and the related psychodrama that will inevitably ensue? This country likes to thrive on forward-looking optimism not on digging through the dirty underwear from yesteryear. Yet, I agree with you, this IS a necessary step, but NOT for the reasons you describe.
This is such an unprecedently bitter and angry time in America that if the next Administration does not sort this out, I am afraid that Step Three will become a reality.

3. Angry mob justice, where Republicans, CEOs, financial managers and the likes are publicly beheaded and dragged through the streets, and the next President is someone like the guy with the mustache in the picture above and the whole cycle begins anew…

Bush Jr. was never truly committed to Bush Jr’s agenda and was a mole in the Bush Jr. administration who served to undermine the true Bush Jr. agenda, mainly by making the Bush Jr. policies look stupid and crazy by implementing them.

If we don’t keep pushing such a Truth *then* Reconciliation Committee, 30 years from now our grandkids will be crippling themselves cleaning up after President Jenna and VP Mary Cheney… if we’re lucky.
