This reminded me of re-reading (or attempting to re-read) Plato’s “The Republic” recently. The naked distaste for democracy is still a little hard to take, for some reason.

Of course, the fact that I’m familiar with Plato (and just about everything on his peculiar little list of Stuff Smart White Guys Need to Know) and do NOT agree with his off-putting world view would no doubt distress and confuse him.

I’ve long suspected that Prager is a put-on concocted to make people like Ben Stein look better. If so, it’s not working very well.

I have a harder time seeing Prager as an iconoclastic Roundhead than as a Royalist shill, churning out crappy pamphlets on behalf of the king and the established church.

Prager is more than a little like Jeremy Collier, author of “A Short View of the Immorality and Profaneness of the English Stage” (1698). Oh noes, popular entertainment is smutty and irreligious and teaches bad lessons to impressionable youth!

Why can’t they just do their own version of Renaissance Fairs? You know, try and attract people to “Upright Conservative World” where everything is as they would like for it to have been? El Cid, this made me laugh. You know I’ve been accused of being pinko scum, but some of prager’s rant makes sense. It’s basically Allan Bloom warmed over. The problem is most conservatives try and make an inflexible conservatively correct curriculum to replace the neo maxists curriculum. They miss the point that the inflexibility was part of the problem, not just the content. And why harsh on Zinn, his history text is a classic. I would read other histories of America and compare and contrast, but there is no need to proscribe old Zinny like some kind of bacteria.
