Certain things deserve to be read again
Yes, they do-dilly-do. I’m just catching up on everything I’ve missed at the blog this week, and I think this amazing quote from the early National Review about the dangers of uppity commie Negroes does indeed bear revisiting:

Can you imagine if they’d had blogs back then? You’d have Charles Johnson* examining every still of the blown-up churches looking for evidence of enhanced smoke. You’d have Michelle Malkin publishing articles in the New York Post mocking the press for over-reporting the bombings and gloating that the church was “still standing.” And you’d have Frank Gaffney penning a bunch of baseless BS for FOX News about Saddam Hussein being the REAL culprit behind the bombings.
Sigh. Life is terrible.

If I were being unkind, I might suggest that people ask Jonah Goldberg why he felt it necessary to revive the theoretical burps of Josef Stalin; does he not realize that reviving Stalin might make the ghost of Ronald Reagan cry?

What would count as a more respectable source? The actual texts of Comintern Central Committee output from 1934 is not quite web accessible yet.
Perhaps I could quote from one Jonah Goldberg, writing for the National Review but posted by the Center for American Cultural Renewal, who is convinced that this only strengthens his point:

In this case, Wikipedia is right on target. The use of the term “social fascist” by Communists during the so-called Third Period really is common knowledge.
But if you want other sources, here is an old historical article about the term “social fascism.” And here is a recent attempt to revive the concept (courtesy of a Stalinist website…now there’s something you don’t see every day!). And here‘s Stalin’s own “Concerning the International Situation” (1924), in which the Man o’ Steel writes:

I wish I was raised as a privileged person. Thank you for thinking as much anyway. My parents did not do badly for themselves that is true, me and my brother were awful bastards for sure. I got on the wrong side of a deal (i.e., someone owed me money after I delivered services}, and just before I went to collect for said services, an incident occurred that allowed my client to claim that I failed to deliver said services. So I had to convince my client to pay me anyway, and it wasn’t fun.
It actually involved a rock star; a burst plumbing fixture, a flood of steaming hot water, and the cost of parking.
So – you can imagine my exhaustion.

One bedroom apartments start at about 1100 a month, and thats those shitty places where you have to have 2000 people living with you not working. I tried, believe me.

Well, I did the whole college thing for a few years, just could not afford it. Even with financial aid I was paying almost 6-700 dollars per quarter. State tuition is going through the roof so it was no better. If I had my way I would be doing something involving programming but I would really just be happy sitting working on computers (as in technician, A+ stuff) if I could actually make a living from it.

Well, I live in what’s called the Westside, in Los Angeles county. Even though I don’t actually live in the city of LA it’s pricey.
I work in a fucked up business. You could call it the Event Business, or Show Business, or Entertainment, and I’ve been in it for many years in many capacities, but right now I work in the capacity of managing a venue that people want to present their Event in.
Event venue management is somewhat related to Real Estate. It sure as hell is interesting.

If we were designing a society from scratch, where everybody was starting from a place of equal opportunity, then maybe it would be possible for that social construct to be completely blind to all of those category distinctions. That doesn’t mean people wouldn’t eventually separate themselves according to differences, real or perceived; but it might at least be possible to create a body of laws and customs and traditions that would ignore the differences at the beginning.
But we’re not doing that. We (at least some people) are trying to repair a tragically broken society whose history was filled with — at some points totally characterized by — invidious discrimination against vast segments of the population on the basis of their skin color, their sex, their point of origin, etc., etc. And you can’t do that by saying “Wow, I sure am glad that’s over. Please pass the sweet potatoes.”
Not to mention the fact that there is still a boatload of racial and other forms of discrimination and prejudice at large in our society. So the problems of the past are not in the past; they are still with us. I suppose that aspect of the problem could be eliminated if we all woke up tomorrow and said “Hey, remember that race stuff? Man, what were we thinking?” But that would still leave massive gouges in the social landscape, lingering inequities that require some redress. How does your “we’re all color-blind” utopia address that?

If you’re into real estate or property management, and you want a little more fun in your life, you might look into event venues.
I came into it from the event side of things – I worked for the shows, and now I process the rental contracts. But, equally, someone could come from the other direction. It can be fun, and creative, and you are dealing with commercial customers for a short-term gig, instead of dealing with people’s primary assets, like their homes.

I just think that the sooner we accept each other the sooner we can get somewhat past it. As long as we accept racism as a major issue (even when it is not in a lot of cases, not all mind you) or overblow racism we just inflate the problem even more so. If we make the fact that Obama is black an issue for example, it does nothing but point out racism rather than overcome it. It should not matter.

Sit at the front of the room and make eye contact with the teacher/professor/lecturer and listen to what he/she has to say. If you talk to the kids, talk about the content of the class. What the fuck do you think you’re paying for, anyway? What the teacher has to say, or buying beers for freshmen?
