Conservatives believe that free-speech devalues the Sacred Marketplace of Ideas. In their narrow little world, anyone who *deserves* to be heard should be able to buy as much of an audience as they can afford! Because, hey, if poor people had any good ideas, they wouldn’t be poor, and if ideas are good enough to be marketable, then some wealthy scion of the Sacred Marketplace would pay for their distribution. Look how well this system has worked for Mark Steyn, after all!
