Is there supposed to be a glottal stop, almost as if one were about to vomit? Nobody has ever figured this out. Similarly, nobody has ever figured out how to form the possessive of Jon'. Is it Jon''s, with two single quotation marks right after the other? Jon"s, with a double quotation mark? Jon`'s? Jon'`s? William Safire, call your office!
