Old thread, but MzNicky’s right. Female circumcision excises the female pleasure centre (the clitoris) and sets up the condition for hideous infections (sewing up the vagina, obstructing the menses,etc.) It’s designed to desexualize women. The conditions under which it’s performed are usually barbaric. The tools are unsterilized and the “operation” is excruciatingly painful.

The practice of removing foreskin, though painful, does not compare. (Though if I had a son, a baby, I probably not subject him to this and leave it to him to decide in his later years.)

Not to belabor the point, but male circumcision involves removal of foreskin. Female “circumcision” is cutting off most if not all external genitalia and perhaps sewing up the vagina besides. If there exists a good reason for this, I’d sure like to hear it.

I agree that male and female genital cutting are very different, but the difference is in degree, not in kind. There are a million reasons to oppose female genital cutting, and most of them are good ones, but the ones that the anti-jihadists tend to focus on (the fact that it’s a non-consensual activity and that it’s undertaken purely for religious reasons) apply equally to male genital cutting, about which they have boo to say.

The course of action is clear: the only right and indeed noble thing to do now would be to call it “Blogs for Bitchery”.
