Rudy, Clinton, McCain, Obama, it does not matter. Unfortunately it took segregationist Governor Wallace to reveal the truth that "there's not a dime's worth of difference between" Republicans and Democrats. The Democrats willingly went along with the War in Iraq, suspension of Habeas Corpus, detaining protesters, opening mail, banning books like "America Deceived' from Amazon, stealing private lands (Kelo decision), warrant-less wiretapping and refusing to investigate 9/11 properly. They are both guilty of treason.

"Envy" was the word of the day just after Bush was assigned the Presidency in 2000; it explained why people opposed tax cuts for the rich. Rudy is trying to bring it back. Good luck. Front runner Republican is kind of like best song by BTO - it ain't sayin much.

Do we force that day of reckoning to happen sooner? Or do we let it play out slowly?

How about whatever happens not making a problematic and at best morally dubious project in the Levant our number one foreign policy commitment (with the exception of recreating all the same villiany on our own in Iraq)

Here's a thought experiment for ya mikey (and others willing to participate): What if we are right, and that the bloodshed between Israel and it's "neighbors" won't stop until everyone is sick of the butcher's bill? Do we force that day of reckoning to happen sooner? Or do we let it play out slowly?
There's a related one with Marxism and capitalism, but I'll save that for another day.

What, exactly, has Rudy Giuliani done to fight terrorism?

He got on TV after the 9/11 attacks

And managed to do it without wetting his pants and crying. So he's better than Bush.

To thelogos:

I'm going to disagree on the point that the Arab states were aggressors post-1948. Israel invaded for no reason during the Suez Crisis, and while Nasser was a total idiot for blockading the Straits of Tiran, the Israelis and the rest of the Arab states knew he was just bluffing. The Six Days War was a pre-emptive strike against Egypt. Rhetoric was very different from reality for the macho dictators in Egypt, Syria, and Iraq at the time.

Also, I think there are many who would argue that Likud was an outgrowth of feelings of Israeli invincibility, not vunerability, as well as increasing religiosity.

both Israelis and Palestinians so sick of the BS from Likud and Hamas/PLO that neither group would hold any political power for generations.

Sad AND true. Kind of like the position we're in, where we really have very little choice but to tolerate this corrupt, criminal, incompetent leadership for another 20+ months. Most everybody wants them gone, but like a tumor, they just stay there.

In spite of the years and the history, the Israelis and the Palestinians could have peace anytime. Israel has all the power, military, economic, diplomatic. So it would be up to Israel to step away from the cycle of violent conflict and treat their neighbors fairly. Would there still be attacks? Sure there would, you can't UN radicalize an entire society overnight, but if Israel would help the Palestinians develop a livable infrastructure, with schools and medical care and clean water the number and ferocity of the attacks would go down fairly rapidly.

But the Likudniks realize that their only hold on power is to demonize an external enemy and create a perpetual state of war. As long as the war is raging, it is "not safe" to adopt a platform of peach. They are criminal thugs, very similar to our criminal thugs...

I agree with ya on Afghanistan, mikey. I suspect we went in like we did (rather than we should have) to score some PR and sexify it. It's hard to make shadow wars and battles look like video games.

And I agree to some degree with you on Israel as well, but since the Arab states were the primary aggressors post-1948, I tend to look at them more harshly. If you look at how we treated the Native Americans, I'm not surprised that we didn't whip out that old playbook and give it to the Likud. I think there were some great ideas on how to deal with Palestine (if you're curious look up Martin Buber), but things are messy right now and a good way to get that started is to have both Israelis and Palestinians so sick of the BS from Likud and Hamas/PLO that neither group would hold any political power for generations. I think that time is coming, but not yet.

Rudy seems so ripe for a ratfucking. He's an Eye-talian guy from Noo Yawk with a Noo Yawk accent, and he was BFF's with that gangster Bernie Kerik. I will guarantee you Rudy is in for some wicked rumor-mongering, push-polling and all sorts of other GOP ratfucking. He probably has a better chance of winning a general election than McCain or Romney, but I get the feeling that GOP machinery will crush Rudy into dust in the south.

it doesn't matter, anyway. since he agrees with abortion, he won't get enough of the conservative vote to win the primary. conservatives consider him to be liberal, so he hasn't a chance in hell.
