Wow. The best I can do is an X show in 1984. Billy Zoom had two poses: Left foot forward cool pose with a big grin, and right foot forward cool pose with a big grin. He just kept shifting from one to the other. I think that might be meta but I am not sure…

My friend shoots his movie “Love and a .45″ and goes back to NYC to mix the music/record a soundtrack. he calls me, says “hey man back from Austin come by my place [on the bowery across the street from CB's funny enough] i’ve got a guy playing some guitar and jamming out a soundtrack you should check it out.”

so off i go, wandering from whatever extraordinarly tiny shithole i was sharing with an inordinate amount of other bong smokers off to carty’s loft.

and there, sitting with a guitar and amp, is Tom Verlaine. who, upon noticing that a few people have gathered and are sitting there slack-jawed, proceeds to play whatever we ask for–soloes, riffs, songs, covers, everything. and leaves us after ripping out an arpeggiated version of the marquee moon solo.

i still get chills. they were also pretty spectacular at UCLA a few years ago, but that was just a show.
