This confirms my vision that AEI or the Heritage Foundation maintains a library of books dating from the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries — the Age of Empire in the English language — and that interns mine these books for ideas; the brighter interns edit the prose so that it doesn’t sound quite so Colonel Blimpish. Shorter sentences, you know, for today’s readers.

A certain proportion of college students study “history” so that they won’t have to encounter anything modern. To be sure, this impairs their understanding, but they are assured of an internship doing the above or at least chairing a historical reenactment society.

This is particularly bad in “Confederate history.”

i gotta say this reasoning is awefully close to what i have been reading in a 1891 encyclopedia britannica.
