Hey, Gavin, how about a told-you-so T-shirt for the holidays? Pictures of 2 or 3 famous lefties (Michael Moore, etc.) with their prescient quotes about how attacking Iraq would be a disaster, and “WE WERE RIGHT” in big letters. Or a pic of the big demonstrations before the war and “WE WERE RIGHT,” “maybe next time you’ll listen to us” or something similar.

I just feel a not-very-nice urge to rub it in these days.

Actually, see, we already knew that you cannot create a truly free western-style democracy from an authoritarian dictatorship at gunpoint. Instead of trying to kill your political adversaries, you invite them into the process. The risk, of course, is that they may win, but that is the nature of a true democracy (see America, November 2006, or Palestine, January 2006). Probably bush/cheney’s ultimate hypocrisy was to punish the Palestinian people for freely and democratically electing people we don’t like…

I think many of the female warbloggers overcompensate and go more batshit to fit in with the guys, mikey. Instapundit, just as an example, might be bright enough to know he’s always lying, but Pammy believes herself. Vaguely reminds me of rabid sports moms who don’t really understand the sport but care to an insane degree about their kids winning.
Princess isn’t here to call me sexist, but I’m not saying girls don’t get war. Just some of them.

Jillian, I was in a Marx Brothers tribute vaudeville-type troupe (Marxmaniacs) with a couple of my brothers and some friends in my younger days. I played the Thelma Todd parts! One of my brothers was Harpo. He still has the costume with the special coat to enable silverware-dropping.

Are you on the whyaduck.com list? Or http://www.marx-brothers.org? My brother is in a bunch of the photos, and he contributed the photos of his Neshobe Island pilgrimages. I’m not sure if Frank is still keeping the sites updated, but there’s some good Marxian stuff there.

Y’know, I’ve been thinking about this. It must have to do with the indoctrination of gender roles and expectations growing up in 20th century America, but I react with a much stronger visceral loathing to war-mongering bloodthirsty women than I do to men. Sure, a part of it is I suppose I expect a woman to be more nurturing and less willing to encourage killing and destruction on a grand scale, but if I was going to be honest, I’d have to admit that a part of it is my anger that a woman in America or Western Europe is very unlikely to ever have to live through the consequences of a “kill ‘em all” policy.

I suspect there are far fewer pro-war women in war zones from Palestine to Baghdad to Kandahar to Somalia to Sudan…
