Clicked over just in time to see their “May he rot in hell” eulogy for Altman, one of my favorite directors.
Ultimately, however, people who want to make vaunted claims for Altman’s greatness need to explain why someone like Ridley Scott shouldn’t be held in equal esteem.
Sure, I loved Alien, but, my god, you can just picture the Battlestar Galactica DVD covers strewn across the unvaccuumed shag of the basement…
Oh please Gavin, you know full well that Ace has been planning on cleaning up his banner for sometime now and just hadn’t found the time in his busy, busy life. It had ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with ANYTHING you may have done or written.
I don’t like to go over to Ace’s playhouse, it smells like spoiled food and farts, but did someone actually say that because Altman was good somehow that means Ridley Scott was bad? ‘Cause I kinda think they’re both good, but we’re talking about Altman right now because he, uh, died. Or did one of the Mensa types over there just assume if you thought one was good, you had to dislike the other?

Because RS never – not even once – got the hell out of his actors way… is why.
The red text still isn’t antialiased, there are stray pixels in the upper corners of the logo, and someone had a shaky hand where the saber blades meet the edge of the spade.

Along with the whole “genius” thing, the list of what Ace doesn’t get is rather extensive.

re: Robert Altman, Ace of Spades sez, “…I’m not getting the whole “genius” thing.”
That tells you all you really need to know.

This doesn’t mean you’re allowed to stop fixing the banner. There’s still much work to be done.
