Does anyone else not see a real problem here??? Some conservative wiseguy sends out letters on about Oct. 28-30 and is nabbed by the FBI on Nov. 13th...and we still haven't caught the party that sent out the actual anthrax 5 years ago??? Where's the outrage people??? I find it laughable that you all bicker over politics or persuasion but don't ask some real serious questions. Good luck to us all.

[...] Chad, it turns out, is a 39-year-old unemployed Freeper living in his mom’s basement in Woodland Hills, California. When not posting favorable stuff about Katherine Harris on Free Republic (under the name Marc Constanza), he was raiding Mom’s kitchen for borax, baking soda and anything else that looked like anthrax powder and mailing it to liberals. The full story of how Chad got caught is set forth in an FBI search warrant affidavit which details a tale of side-splittingly hilarious criminal ineptitude. [...]

"The FBI said federal agents watched Castagana, of Los Angeles, walk from his home to a public mailbox Thursday and deposit several letters. One was allegedly addressed to someone previously targeted and contained the white powder."

The implication from this article is that he had an already established history and execution pattern of this type of thing, making him easy to track.

In addition he apparently chose to use the same delivery method for separate threat attacks and to employ mail drops within easy walking distance of his home.

Not exactly the brightest of criminals.
Then again I don't think I've ever met any truly bright criminals.

i wanted to research this a bit more, if anyone has more links.
what did this guy do for a living ?
maybe nothing, he lived with Dad 78 yo.
Geneva Castagana

all i see is that he designed 1 circuit for an AM radio.
which doesnt mean much, cos lots of people have done it in the past.
probably thousands,
if you know radio at all, all you have to do, is take someone elses design, and change it a bit.

just wondering if he knew how to do anything at all
besides complain about the left.

heres another post of his....
maybe nothing, but he ends with the phrase "the perp was never found"
reminding me of his comments about his own letters mailed, saying that "theres not much info"
like he wants to know if theres more about it.
like i said,
probably nothing, but may be worth looking into.

"Within a year of 9/11, American bombs had destroyed three times as many innocent lives in Afghanistan as perished in the World Trade Center. I really think you should consider whether those people would have considered that an acceptable tradeoff."

If I were killed so that my family, freinds and fellow citizens could be free and safe, that wouldn't bother me much. It wouldn't be the first time I've risked that.

If I were killed so that a terrorist could come to power, that would bother me a bit.

When the US military kills innocents, 99% of the time it is accidentally, and it happens because we are at war in Afghanistan (and elsewhere) so that everyone else may live as free men, women and children. So that the men may have a job future, so that the women don't have to live like enslaved chattel who are executed on public soccer fields, and so that the little orphans don't have to starve anymore because their husband was shot for listening to music and their mothers was hung for not wearing her burkha to the marketplace.

When the Taliban, Al Qaeda, insurgents, or any of the related terror organizations kill innocents they almost always do it intentionally, and it is not to free men, to liberate women, to feed and educate orphans, to rebuild cities, or to bring progress.

If you do not, are incapable of, or simply will not (for reasons of your own) understand the difference between those two intentions, those two methods of operating, and those two outcomes, that's you fault. That's your soul. That's your mind. It's got nothing to do with me or mine.

Turn your scalpel towards the cancer, not the doctor.

Man, Jack, for someone with such a weighty and significant take on life, you sure have a whole fucking lot of time to post somber treatises on your own hard-nosed realism on satire blogs. I'll put it simply: it's not my fault that like so many people your view of politics is restricted to parties and platforms.

War is political. If it wasn't, soldiers wouldn't wear uniforms. The soldier may not be political, but the people who put his gun in his hand and tell him who to fire at are.

"We’re not the ones killing civilians in Iraq by the busload, the terrorists are."

Dear Jack. Your post was, shall we say, a little unusual for a Sadly, No reader, but nevertheless interesting. I am neither a kid nor underexposed to tyranny, torture and murder.I lived and fought through apartheid, Jack, so let’s just say I know where you’re coming from re real suffering.
Having established my “credentials, I hope to your satisfaction, Jack, May I say that I feel the dichotomy between life and politics is not quite as wide as you seem to think. Apartheid was a political series of decisions, the decision to fight it was a political one and the struggle itself was intensely political. I agree that sometimes the “kids don’t seem to realize the consequences of political action - see, for example, all those Rah Rah War - Bomb everyone types on rightwing blogs - but I think having ideals and finding how to put them into practice is an essential in the maturing of a citizen. Wouldn’t you agree?

Suez in SAfrica

Dear Suez,

If you really fought through Apartheid, then you got chops with me. I read what you're saying. I had a little personal incident at college in regards to Apartheid, but that's neither here nor there.

Nobody who has ever really been to war though thinks it is rah, rah, let's bomb.
Of course you want to approach every dangerous situation with high morale and confidence, but that doesn't mean you enjoy it or wish it weren't necessary.

Wars of all kinds may be necessary, but they are not fun. A sort of protracted Civil War was necessary in South Africa to end Apratheid, and many people died and many were killed. But it was necessary. In the end.

And yes, there, like in any war, such as Iraq, politics is an important component. But politics didn't win it, men and women willing to fight and die and the other side willing to change changed it. In other words to me politics was one of the tools of the Spirit of Man to be free, the Spirit of Man was not a tool of politics. (I know you didn't mention Iraq in your post to me but some others did, and since I see the analogy, I'll play the hand dealt me.)

But I'm not willing to leave the Iraqi kids and women and the innocent people there to the tender mercies of some up and coming terrorist regime. Or theocratic tyranny.

And yes, America has made plenty of mistakes in the past. All nations do. Fighting to liberate oppressed peoples is not one of them.

Fighting in a much better way, to liberate Iraq, I'm all for that. Giving them up to the enemy, I'm not for that.

But to tell you the truth, I don't know what a normal Sadly, No reader is. I came here because I found this link as a reference to another article, so I'm completely ignorant of the normal readership.

I'm not a uniformed soldier by the way, not in the way I'm sure you're thinking anyhow.

But I have been involve din things and seen things and worked on things both alone and with others which give me little interest in seeing people butchered or enslaved, no matter who they are or where they live.

Apartheid took a long time to kill. A long time doesn't bother me at all, I've been around awhile. So I'm not easily discouraged by a three year war. Or a 40 year Cold War.

But I still say that although you and I have political disagreements on some things, this doesn't mean everything that passes between us has to be reduced to politics.

Anyway, you and the others take care.

By the way, I wrote a poem some time ago about Africa.
I put it up on my website.

You might or might not like it.
I think I'll post it there and you can tell me what you think of it if you like.

It's at the bottom of the entry.

But I’m not willing to leave the Iraqi kids and women and the innocent people there to the tender mercies of some up and coming terrorist regime. Or theocratic tyranny.

And yes, America has made plenty of mistakes in the past. All nations do. Fighting to liberate oppressed peoples is not one of them.

Fighting in a much better way, to liberate Iraq, I’m all for that. Giving them up to the enemy, I’m not for that.

But to tell you the truth, I don’t know what a normal Sadly, No reader is. I came here because I found this link as a reference to another article, so I’m completely ignorant of the normal readership.

I’m not a uniformed soldier by the way, not in the way I’m sure you’re thinking anyhow.

But I have been involve din things and seen things and worked on things both alone and with others which give me little interest in seeing people butchered or enslaved, no matter who they are or where they live.

Apartheid took a long time to kill. A long time doesn’t bother me at all, I’ve been around awhile. So I’m not easily discouraged by a three year war. Or a 40 year Cold War.

But I still say that although you and I have political disagreements on some things, this doesn’t mean everything that passes between us has to be reduced to politics.

Anyway, you and the others take care.

By the way, I wrote a poem some time ago about Africa.
I put it up on my website.

You might or might not like it.
I think I’ll post it there and you can tell me what you think of it if you like.

It’s at the bottom of the entry.

Hey Jack: I love your patriotizm but your vision is clouded. I agree with suezboo, apartheld was horrendous and our government supported it (see reagan). Every war covers up the real purpose. Iraq was about oil and our government has stated so. So, if it was about oil, why not say that in the first place? because we need a nobel cause, maybe? we gave saddam the gas and knew he was gassing his own people, where were we then? I'm sorry but your nobel cause's are lies but I love your loyalty.

I guess God should be held accountable for all the miscarriages he has caused throughout the ages. After all, when my wife had bother of her miscarriages, everyone said that it was God's will.

The left: Dr Tiller the Baby Killer
            ALF Killing people via fire
Democrats-allowing more soldiers in Iraq to die while they
do a slow cut and run
The Right sending fake anthrax to idiots

I see the moral equivalence.

I really do not appreciate the extreme's in this country and I think that you need only look at the responses here to see some of the insanity. I will include the above as reference for the bs spouted by both extreme sides. Until the middle speaks up it will be the far-right and far-left that hold the rest of the country hostage.

Dear Jack. Your post was, shall we say, a little unusual for a Sadly, No reader, but nevertheless interesting. I am neither a kid nor underexposed to tyranny, torture and murder.I lived and fought through apartheid, Jack, so let's just say I know where you're coming from re real suffering.
Having established my "credentials", I hope to your satisfaction, Jack, May I say that I feel the dichotomy between life and politics is not quite as wide as you seem to think. Apartheid was a political series of decisions, the decision to fight it was a political one and the struggle itself was intensely political. I agree that sometimes the "kids" don't seem to realise the consequences of political action - see, for example, all those Rah Rah War - Bomb everyone types on rightwing blogs - but I think having ideals and finding how to put them into practice is an essential in the maturing of a citizen. Wouldn't you agree?

But I’m also willing to bet dollars to doughnuts the only real killing you’ve ever seen has been on video and computer games.

That's not true for everyone here. Go catch Mikey in one of the threads above.

Hey, Jack, are you aware this is a site that lampoons right-wing commentators? Your discussion of people who "take politics far too seriously" pretty much mirrors the folks Gavin et al are constantly making fun of.
