Teh Drumbeat Again
This just in from MSNBC:
[UPDATE: IMAO ownzered us on this one. The poll is actually from December, 2005, but was making the rounds after the election as a fresh piece of data. I'm so mad, I just put my thumb in my mouth and blew, and popped my top hat clear to the ceiling.]

Above: a very interesting graph
And here’s some more from The Malkin, circa yesterday:
Ed Koch adds further warning:
Some congressional leaders will push for President Bush’s impeachment now that the Democrats have taken control of the House and possibly the Senate, former New York Mayor Ed Koch predicts.
“I expect that [Rep. John] Conyers as chairman [of the House Judiciary Committee], now with great freedom, will do anything he can to commence such impeachment or investigatory activity, and we’ll see whether Pelosi will prevent it,” Koch says.
Oh, who knows what’ll happen. But teh beat, teh beat…

MSNBC really makes it easy. Instead of just ‘yes’ and ‘no’, they give you a handy explanation for your choice. Although, the reasons they gave for impeachment are abridged. John Conyers could explain it to you in 350 pages or less.

While I get a warm fuzzy feeling knowing that there is a pro-impeachment sentiment, that is some blatant push polling.
They might as well have asked if impeachment proceedings are justified for his siring of a baby with an off-white hue.

So, I think I figured out where the Great Lesbo Devil Pelosi mem comes from.
Asside from the whole “Ph3ar the Outsiders” mantra that the modern GOP simply requires to sustain it’s existance, there’s also this: by over-hyping the threat of her speakership to “delusional paranoia” levels, they create a sort of win/win scenario for themselves.
If she DOES turn out to be crazy and pushes for mandatory homonups and snake dances, all the pundits can claim, “oh look how right we were, she’s all crazy.”
However, more likely, when she turns out to be NOT insane, they can again claim victory, because they succeeded in stopping her from unleashing her full zaniness upon you poor faithful true Americans. Boy oh boy, did we fight hard and win the good fight against this crazy woman. We sure kept her in check with out awesome might, didn’t we?
Sometimes, I really miss Pogo.

The drumbeat should sound like oncoming death dealt by a tank battalion.
No I’m not a fascist, but what cool uniforms.

Man, don’t encourage drum solos. If you wanna emphasize teh BEAT, I for one recommend something with Al Jackson in it. Otherwise, most drummers need a sign that says “Don’t go nuts unless you’re Buddy Rich and you’re not” hanging in front of them at all times.

Man, don’t encourage drum solos.
If you’re referring to that Dave Lombardo thing, that’s pretty much the way he plays in group situations, which is why his bands are alternately awe-inspiring and hilarious.
One day he will double-bass solo so quickly that it will form a tone that causes a stadium to collapse.

Okay, here’s the deal:
I’ve finally come around to the thinking of the Reich Wing masses. Just like with the whole illegal anti-terrorism wiretapping thing, if El Presidente has done nothing wrong, then he has nothing to fear from the pounding drums of impeachment, right?
Then, if it turns out he did do something wrong, but won’t come clean about it, we get to waterboard him, right? I mean, isn’t a guy with his finger on The Button the ultimate ticking time bomb? And aggressive interrogation techniques are sometimes necessary to get information from those accused of crimes against America.
But remember: it’s only simulated drowning.

that is some blatant push polling.
Actually, with the whole “the man has done absolutely nothing wrong, impeachment would just be a political lynching,” it’s more of a push-me-pull-me poll.

Wait… Ed Koch was NYC’s mayor, what, 20 years ago? (Ok, 17 years ago, I just looked it up.) They might as well just ask Wink Martindale for some pundilicious opinionizing…
And since then, he’s been a lawyer, a professor, and… oh yes… Judge Wapner’s replacement on The People’s Court!
So, who the hell cares what he has to say? He’s just another senior citizen now.
I can’t say I’ve even THOUGHT of Ed Koch since the ’80s. Who knew he was even still alive?

Gavin M.,
I know. See, an unfortunate number of drummers are, apparently, unaware they are not Buddy Rich but nevertheless are always doing that sort of thing anyway. Therein lies my problem. Nothing against the awesomeness against such actual goings on from the the actual Buddy Rich, of course. Hell, a picture of Buddy Rich can keep better time than most drummers on the indie club circuit.
Goddamn drummers.

RobW, Ed Koch lives forever in my little universe because of a spectacularly illogical pro-death-penalty essay he wrote a few decades back called “Death and Justice.” I use it as an example when I’m teaching logical fallacies because, I swear to god, he commits every damn one of them in the space of about 4 pages.

This time, I’m thinking of the intro to the Damned’s “New Rose”. Their drummer, Rat Scabies, was the inspiration for Animal in the above clip (including the nudity).

Their drummer, Rat Scabies, was the inspiration for Animal in the above clip.
Animal first appeared on the Muppet Show pilot in 1975. The Damned were formed a year later. I’d always assumed he was based on Keith Moon but there is no real evidence for this. Keith Moon regularly trashed his drums and I recently read an article about a performance in the sixties where he tied his drums down before starting to play them. Also
From Wikipedia:
Another time, he filled his drums entirely with water and used them as tanks for goldfish, actually playing them for the concert – when an audience member asked “What do you do with the goldfish?”, he replied with a grin, “Even the best drummers get hungry.”
Both Animal and Keith Moon suffered from ADHD.
Pete Townshend later claimed that The Who had applied the art concept of Auto-destruction to destroying their instruments in which Keith Moon was a enthusiastic participant.

Why the hell impeach the neutered symbol of everything wrong with the goppers, when he’ll just be pardoned by the next president-select?

My bro. So cut out the drummer jokes.
Thanks for the Buddy Rich YouTube, btw. :)
I sent it to my brother, I don’t know if he knew that Rich had appeared on The Muppet Show. Unlike me, he was not a fan of The Muppet Show. He’s also not a big Buddy Rich fan, he thought he was too obtrusive or something, but still. The SOB could play. Even though my bro says he was an asshole IRL.
