Ding Dong, Godwin’sLawIsDead.

Doltschloss
I’ve been nibbling at the margins of its corpse for awhile, a number of years actually, well, really, when it boils down to it, I never really did agree, well not exactly,with the premise, though believe it was sound in the time and place in which it was constructed, and it did seem to be a valid charge to make for awhile, which I guess for me ended with a semen stain on a dress, the impeachment of a president, and the subversion of democracy, first by nefarious means, and then ultimately, by fiat, when SCOTUS decided that the election really didn’t matter.

(Really, now, try to see if you can make that sentence longer and still somewhat lucid. Games bloggers play.)

My old pal Lime Rickey in the comments of the Eschaton brought the following snip from a weekend op ed penned by a completely neutral observer,[ ]]]

Laurence H. Silberman, a federal appellate judge appointed by President Ronald Reagan, wrote in the Wall Street Journal that the idea the Bush administration “lied us into Iraq” has gone from “antiwar slogan to journalistic fact.”

The op-ed starts thusly:

In recent weeks, I have heard former Associated Press reporter Ron Fournier on Fox News twice asserting, quite offhandedly, that President George W. Bush “lied us into war in Iraq.”

I found this shocking. I took a leave of absence from the bench in 2004-05 to serve as co-chairman of the Commission on the Intelligence capabilities of the United States Regarding weapons of Mass Destruction

[Mercifully the paywall cuts in at this point.]

First, I have to admit to being gobsmacked even considering the fact that Fox would allow such sacrilicious genuflection to Truth, Justice and the American way, to escape the studio.
That it happened twice seems almost otherworldly, in the realm of the unbelieveable, but I am reminded of Hamlet’s comment to Horatio regarding Heaven and Earth and the things contained therein, that can not be “dreamt of, by his philosophy”.

“[I]t is one thing to assert, then or now, that the Iraq war was ill-advised,” he wrote. “It is quite another to make the horrendous charge that President Bush lied to or deceived the American people about the threat from Saddam.”

This is a pretty heinous charge. I mean the dudes lips were moving, which in this case does not a congenital liar make. Bush may have believed every crumb that dribbled from his maw as Gods own truth, which of course would make him, #notaliar, though I am pretty sure that that justification will get you no where in any actual hall of jurisprudence.

The shit coming outta DubbyDees™ Dribblin’Gob™, during the run-up to war, every last bit of it was wrapped in a candy coating of prevarication, every last bit of it, not only deceptive, but Bush, operating in a zone so far from objective fact as to have earned really only one proper sobriquet, FLyPoS™ (Fucking Lying Piece of Shit!)

After re-litigating the case for invading Iraq, Silberman wrote that the charge could have “potentially dire consequences.”

“I am reminded of a similarly baseless accusation that helped the Nazis come to power in Germany: that the German army had not really lost World War I, that the soldiers instead had been ‘stabbed in the back’ by politicians,” he wrote.

This, right here, is fucking adorable, as adorable as this one panel political ‘toon.

One would really only be safe approaching these levels of Projection wearing UV resistant clothing and welding goggles, forget masterbation, this shit will blind you in a legitimate heartbeat.

“[I]t is one thing to assert, then or now, that the Iraq war was ill-advised,” he wrote. “It is quite another to make the horrendous charge that President Bush lied to or deceived the American people about the threat from Saddam.”

And he is right! That the Iraq war was ill-advised is an opinion, albeit one well founded, well considered, and nearly universally accepted by anyone not blinded by partisan delusions. That Bush lied and deceived the American people (not to mention Congress) is documented fact.

Also frist!

Pup, I presume that the big ass picture that took over my screen from your link in yer first is Roy Moore?

I couldn’t even confirm that or read any of the piece as my GayDar was pegging like it hasn’t since I saw a documentary on Haggerty that texan super church dude that got caught with male hookers and drugs a few years back…..

Never had seen a picture of the dude previously, though I am very familiar with his intent to tattoo the ten commandments on all of us…

The school of tell a great big lie, since the only ones who care what you say are the ones as totally p.o.s.’s as you and just happy you get your drivel into print.

*Haggard. Meth head anti-gay male prostitute hiring preacher dude’s name was Haggard.

I hear you on the gaydar. BTW, gays have better gaydar than straight guys.

Curiously, women’s gaydar improves when they are ovulating. I don’t have a reference handy for that, sorry.

The school of tell a great big lie, since the only ones who care what you say are the ones as totally p.o.s.’s as you and just happy you get your drivel into print.

Now that Godwin’s Law is toast, I may quote Josef Goebbels

If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.

Is there an analog to GAYDAR that uses soundwaves? Do submarine sailors locate each other using GONAR?

Do submarine sailors locate each other using GONAR?

Submarine sailors – most sailors, in fact – locate each other using gaydar.

Jonathan Chait can be a huge wanker.

But he gets right to the point, re: Laurence Silberman.
———–
The question of whether, in addition to being victimized by faulty intelligence, also misrepresented the intelligence it did have, was left to a second Senate report, called the “Phase II” report, which came out a few years later. That report, which was endorsed by two of the committee’s seven Republicans and all its Democrats, concluded, “the Administration repeatedly presented intelligence as fact when in reality it was unsubstantiated, contradicted, or even non-existent.”

Incredibly, Silberman’s op-ed does not mention the Phase II report at all. Silberman simply asserts that his committee, which was specifically instructed not to investigate whether Bush manipulated intelligence, did not find that Bush manipulated intelligence, and presents this as the final word.

Bush manipulated intelligence

does not compute…

Now that Godwin’s Law is toast….

This cracked me right the fuck up Pup.

Is Thunder gonna make me read some fucking chait? Am I gonna have to pray for one of those stopped clock moments. Am I gonna voluntarily read the fucking biggest troll on the Intertrons.

I did open the tab….Pass!

Bush manipulated intelligence

does not compute…

I know! the damn thing has to be on fire before it can do that.

Fucking stopped clock day. Yay me.

Wooootlio ILWP!!!

Jesus Herman Munster Christ on a Two-Stroke Sybian! Of all the well-documented crimes that Bush and his cronies/handlers/puppeteers committed, they’re quibbling about lying???

Let’s see what I can come up with:

– Meeting in secret with Energy Company Executives to set policy, shortly before said executives 1) manipulate electricity prices in the California energy exchanges creating hyperinflation and record profits for their companies, and 2) see their chief icons convicted of accounting fraud;

– Commit willful negligence (at best) contributing to the WTC and Pentagon attacks because their chief think tank was hot and horny for “another Pearl Harbor”;

– Aiding and abetting relatives and financial sponsors of the chief suspects of said attacks in escaping the US;

– Manufacturing evidence and manipulating intelligence to justify the invasion of two countries (i.e., lying us into war);

– False imprisonment and torture of prisoners of war, including both combatants and innocent people presented for bounty;

– Profiteering by issuing wartime contracts to companies in which senior officials held major interest, and subsequently delivering shoddy and even deadly products and ineffective services on said contracts;

– Graft and corruption in the management of the occupied countries, leading (among other things) the untraceable loss of billions of Dollars in cash;

– Gross ineptitude in the management of domestic affairs, including finance, disaster recovery, and food safety;

– Allowing rampant fundamentalism and dominionism to spread in the armed forces academies, in clear practical violation of the establishment clause of the First Amendment;

and the list could go on and on and on. We basically had what one would expect if Milburn Drysdale were put in charge of a superpower. God knows what the “unknown unknowns” are.

And the reason it’s the fucking accusation of “liars” that they’re whining about is because the most important thing in their minds is that they be remembered as “great men of honor and prestige,” and the accusations of mendacity sting the most. The rest they can play off with situational ethics or plausible denial, but “liar, liar, pants on fire” really fucking burns their pride.

Fuck ’em. Fuck ’em all.

And WP also. I haven’t posted here in days… WTF is “slow down?”

Oh, and I forgot:

– Leaking classified information and revealing identities of covert operatives in order to silence critics that provided evidence of their lies.

That alone would have been sufficient for impeachment in more sane times.

I’ve said this before, but:

The Iraqi Air Force in 2002 had, on a good day, ten flyable aircraft due to parts shortages. They flew maybe three training sorties on any given day.

If they were really feeling frisky they might send a single MiG-25 up at the no-fly zone. It would invariably get chased away by the F-15s.

We normally had two Marine EA-6 (electronic warfare) aircraft on station. One in the North and one in the South. One day they both happened to turn their jammers on a the same time and it shut down the entire Iraqi air defense system (what was left of it).

The rest of the Iraqi military was in similar shape. They had no Navy and no long-range missile force.

This is the military that was being presented as a “grave threat” to the United States in 2002.

President Bush repeatedly claimed that Saddam didn’t allow the inspectors in. Is there anyone that can’t see that President Bush’s excuse for attacking Iraq is a lie? Clearly a provable lie since the fact is that Saddam DID allow the inspectors in.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MhdMA_KhcwA
And claiming that the excuse for the war was faulty intel doesn’t hold water because the intel was checked and debunked BEFORE the war as a “report commissioned by the president” revealed: “By the time President Bush ordered U.S. troops to disarm Saddam Hussein of the deadly weapons he was allegedly trying to build, every piece of fresh evidence had been tested — and disproved — by U.N. inspectors, according to a report commissioned by the president” – Panel: U.S. Ignored Work of U.N. Arms Inspectors By Dafna Linzer Washington Post Staff Writer

But balsa drones! And an army riddled with platoons of soldiers that only existed on paper so their officers could skim off the salaries! And precious, precious oil that they were trying to sell to people who weren’t American enough!

Whatever happened to Sadly, No?

And scary allegations of WMD from people who were paid to make up scary allegations of WMD!

When’s the last time we fought an enemy that actually *had* an air force, Vietnam?

The Iraqi air force in 1991 was mostly destroyed without ever having a chance to fight back, IIRC, as was the Serbian one. Don’t know that the Taliban even had an air force. Iraq 2003, well, what you said.

The North Vietnamese Air Force did pretty well actually. They had extremely good ground controllers who could direct their interceptors into position for surprise attacks.

Poor tactics on the part of the USAF led to unimpressive kill ratios until later in the war when the Air Force adopted the Navy’s “Top Gun” style of training (USAF Fighter Weapons School).

Our rules of engagement prevented us from destroying them on the ground, which would have put an end to them in fairly short order.

Iraq in 1991 had an Air Force, and a pretty decent one for that part of the world. We didn’t give them a chance to fight back, which is just as well.

Gen. Horner told my unit to expect a loss of six aircraft. The KC-135s were told to expect 20 percent losses on the first night.

Whatever happened to Sadly, No?

Good question. One that I can’t seem to answer myself. We’ve been looking and looking, but to no avail. At this point we are only left with prayer.

Those who got caught up in our “moderation” net, have been freed. Should you try again you should only have to dodge the “posting too quickly” monster, but that one is easily defeated by a slight addendum to the end of the comment like FYWP or ILWP.

Occasionally that will result in a duplicate, but I think we can handle that for the time being.

Oh and keyholders, you may want to check in from time to time so we can liberate comrades, before they decide to never return.

Thanks in advance.

Wear me and I will force you to destroy everything you hold dear.

But your ass will look fantastic while you do it.

While Seb’s persistent absence continues to vex me, I must say that this was a really good article. Brava!

I can only recall that Al Gore was known to be a pathological liar because the things that he said, while true in the strictest technical sense, were trivial to ridicule and distort. George Bush, on the other hand, was forgiven his numerous incidents of gibbering idiocy because the poor dear clearly believed his own noise. Maureen Down collected a pretty pot of cash playing this game.

Dear Robert,

If only to try and address the fact that you are vexed, I will make sure to post something in the next few days… –Seb

WoooooooHoooooo, behold the power of the vexatron! I will also, too, see if I can find something vexing to be vexed aboot.

…Google the article name to get past the paywall.

Thanks for the tip WhiskeyPapa.

I need to cut down on the drinking, I think I’m seeing things. I swear I just saw Seb post a comment.

this might lead you to some fodder, Provider.

I miss Seb too. And preview – who the fuck killed preview?

thanks pup.

And preview – who the fuck killed preview?

We had preview? When, what did it do?

We had preview?

I *think* we had preview. Didn’t we once have preview? Why do I remember “preview is your friend?”

When,

Oh fuck, I don’t remember, zackly. Before. It was before,that’s all.

what did it do?

Um, it previewed.

Um, it previewed.

musta been before my time….

I have seen it on other blogs, can be handy.

Embrace me and I will show you…

The Future.

Yeah, we definitely had preview. It would show you what your comment was going to look like in another area as you typed it in the box. Good for e.g. making sure your link-fu is strong before clicking “submit.”

I think it went away with the server upgrade.

Yes, do post again, Seb. It’s been way too long.

The fact is, freedom. Also, no special rights for blacks or fags.

OBS now the mind brain has been jogged. I remember the preview. Havent seen anything on the dashboard that would reinstall the feature.

Ill add it to the things i realy dont wanna know abt wordpress, unless it makes me money, list.

And maybe seb can look into this too quickly thing…
ILWP .

Oh, Seb!

Give it to me!

I’ve been wanting it so long!

Oh my God! YES!

Give it to me NOW, Seb!

One notable exception was retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson, a favorite among the conservative grassroots, who defended Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore’s instructions. “Roy Moore understands the importance of preserving states’ rights in the modern post-Civil War world in which we live,” Carson told POLITICO in an email sent from his spokesman.
