Yup. I’m as bad as Fred Phelps. Exactly the same thing. Yup. Yupper.

There are extremists on all sides. On one extreme you have a guy who protests at funerals of dead soldiers and says they deserved it because they come from a country that is too tolerant of homosexuals.

And on the other extreme, you have a guy who occasionally makes annieangel go ballstic.

It’s exactly the same thing. All of you should pray to Jesus real hard and he will make you see that these are exactly the same thing.

And he may also help you to see that pointing out Christian hypocrisy is exactly the same thing as the Holocaust: persecution is persecution.

As far as Mal de Mer calling on the Powers That Sadly Be to ban annieangel goes–dude, you’ve made it very, very clear that you think everyone here who happens to be an American is an asshole and an idiot*. So, why, exactly, should we do anything for you? I’m truly curious. I can’t think of a reason myself, but then again, I’m an idiot. And an asshole.

Leyland is an old-school style manager, and because of that occasionally makes boneheaded moves, like putting Neifi Perez in the two hole. Neifi bats #2 because according to ancient, outdated baseball tradition, that’s where you bat your banjo-hitting infielder, whether or not he has a career .298 OBP. As a stat-obsessed baseball nerd, these kinds of baseball people drive me batty sometimes. Nobody is worse than Dusty Baker, who claims OBP is not important because you don’t want to have lots of runners “clogging up the bases.”

So Leyland is not necessarily great tactically, but he does seem to be very good at holding players accountable, keeping the team on the same page and getting the team to play good fundamental ball. There are no massive egos on the Tigers, and they have been able to bear down and win key games all season long. Every time they’ve gone in a little slump, they have very calmly righted the ship and put up key wins. They’ve been doing it all season long.

Plus, my dad, who is a nightclub singer down in Florida, hung out with Leyland a few times when Leyland managed the Marlins, and my dad says Leyland is a great guy. So he’s got that going for him.
