“Why Every Responsible American Should Turn Their Daughter to a Man”

  • Thanx a lot, Obama, for this new law which further enfagifies boys and helps turn properly princess-powderpuff girls into burqa-wearing, dykey killing machines.

‘Shorter’ concept created by Daniel Davies and perfected by Elton Beard. We are aware of all Internet traditions.™

Right because giving women the choice to become a combat soldier is exactly the same as forcing all girls to become soldiers.

Just like moving the boundary of weapons permitted under the 2nd amendment down a smidge from “fully-automatic” to “semi-automatic with a magazine greater than 10 rounds” is the exact same thing as Obama sending jackboots door to door to collect every firearm in America.

Just like giving two men or two women the option to get married is exactly the same thing as taking away the institution of marriage from heterosexuals.

What is it with these fucking cro-magnon conservatives? Can’t they make any sort of argument or judgment without resorting to hyperbole and false equivalency?

Not only do parents of daughters have to worry about dates to the dance, mean girls on the playground, or making sure their daughters have good academic discipline but now parents also have to worry about the idea that if there ever is a national draft again, their daughter might just have the opportunity to sit in a foxhole, wet, cold and muddy, gripping the steel of an M-4 in her chapped hands, waiting to kill or be killed.

This is different from worrying that their son might just have the opportunity to sit in a foxhole, wet, cold and muddy, gripping the steel of an M-4 in his chapped hands, waiting to kill or be killed… how?

I must say, he makes a great anti-war writer. If I ever apply for conscientious objector status, I’m going to use that one.

In high school, rather than wishing for girls to become Homecoming Queens, parent might prefer their daughters to hit the gridiron with the football team. These young ladies need to be ready to fight. A responsible parent needs to think about what is needed to make their daughter a lean mean fighting machine or, at the very least prepared to not get herself killed.

Some of the best soccer players in my high school were girls. The only one I’m aware of who’s actually playing in a local team is one of these girls, who last I checked, was very happy doing it. Doesn’t mean all the girls were good at sports, any more than all the boys. But more saliently, who gives a shit?

What a brave new world America’s children are now growing up in.

It’s not a “brave new world.” This is entirely fucking normal. This is the school environment I grew up in in the late nineties and early 2000s. Some girls were good at sports. Some girls were bad at sports. Some guys were good at sports. Some guys were bad at sports. Some girls were good at book learning. Some guys were good at book learning. Some were both. Some were neither. And nobody gave a single solitary fuck. Nor did anyone feel any pressure to conform to either “old” or “new” gender norms in terms of what you were supposed to like.

(Yeah, it was a Frog school, but I’m pretty sure most of the AMURIKUN schools in Montgomery County worked roughly the same way).

We currently have tens of thousands of troops fighting alongside allied Afghan forces. Will women be embedded alongside them? Will Islamic nations allow American women to fight with them? Or are we destined for a day when American women will be found running across the desert with an M-16 on one shoulder and a 90-pound pack on their back all while wearing a burqa?

Once again: we’ve been over all of this before. Women served in Saudi Arabia for over a decade, nineties and early 2000s. We found ways to accommodate Saudi sensitivities, until towards the end, when, I believe, they finally relented. And no, not all Islamic nations require a burqa, you racist ass motherfucker.

    Call me a bad American

I didn’t wait for your permission.

but I have every intention of continuing the tradition of American mothers over generations and sticking with raising my children to become young ladies and gentlemen.

Fire away. Hopefully, the roles you try to force them into conform to their natural inclinations. I feel sorry for the unhappy life that lies ahead of them if you have a daughter who enjoys playing sports as much as many of the women I’ve met, or a son who wants to be a schoolteacher, and will have to either give up on their dreams or live the rest of their lives in the knowledge that they’re disappointing their father. Parents are supposed to support their children, not stunt their development. But I suppose, to a conservative, children are yet another part of the obnoxiously unruly world that must be grabbed by the back of the neck and beaten until they conform to the Moral Majority approved parameters of How Things Ought To Be.

One more from the comments section -

I’ve served with females in the military. I’ve had female bosses I’ve supervised female subordinates, I’ve also served in combatant units where females couldn’t serve. The presents of women in traditionally all male societies definitely changes the dynamics but not always for the better. I did discover that only part of the ladies actually wanted to do the same job as the guys, however, the ones that actually wanted to be there were as good as the guys. I guess I have mixed feelings about this whole debate. My personal preference would be not to have women in the more dangerous jobs.

“I guess I have mixed feelings about this.” LOLOL. “On the one hand, the facts prove to me that women who are dedicated to being in the military are just as good as the men who are, but on the other hand, I’m taught to believe that there are traditional gender roles that are natural and must be obeyed, so how can I be expected to decide between the facts and my preconceived notions? QED.”

And yes, I stand corrected for writing “he” above when I should have written “she.” Proof that women can match men in all possible areas, even stupidity. I apologize for my own preconceived notions. :D

I’ve been on a small COP in Afghanistan where there were females that went out on patrols just like everyone else. Were they technically combat arms? No, neither was I. Were we in combat every damned time we went out yes we were. Did the Afghan’s, not the most enlightened people in the world, get all squawky about it no they did not. There was one time where one of ours did manage to piss them off but that’s because she didn’t believe in tact and stomped all over his manly pride. Sorta like what is happening to these morons. So which is it, wingnuts? If the ladeez aren’t competent to handle an offensive weapon even when extensively trained in its use, it’s hard to see how the untrained suburban mom should be trusted with one.

Kind of topic, but I just watched Seven Psychopaths. Just when I was thinking that I loved the dialogue between all the male characters, and between one of the male characters and his wife, this conversation happens:

Hans: Your women characters are awful. None of them have anything to say for themselves and most of them get either shot or stabbed to death within five minutes and thos who don’t probably will later on.

Marty: Well, it’s a hard world for women. You know?

Hans: Yeah, it’s hard world for women, but most of the ones I know can string a sentence together.

It still doesn’t pass the Bechdel test, but I highly recommend it to anyone who hasn’t seen it yet.

They did before that, too. In ’81 I was packed, the tickets were ready, and I was really excited to be going to Riyadh, so it was very disappointing to me when I heard that our guys had just stopped women from going because we were being harassed pretty badly by Saudi men.

That was in peace time. We wouldn’t have been carrying M-16s and 120 rounds of ammunition. That kind of thing might discourage sexual harrassment.

Most important over all arguments of whether women are “good” at combat or not, is that women, you know, half the voting citizenry of this her US of A, apparently want the opportunity and equal treatment that gives them in the military. Women, again VOTING CITIZENS, in the military want the same opportunity to fight for their ideals and/or country, and have the same opportunities for achievement and promotion that their male counterparts have.

Whether men agree with that or not is just not fucking relevant.

I know this is gonna be a surprise to misogynists like Hughes, but (white) men don’t give out or take back rights and privileges in this country anymore (or shouldn’t, anyhoo).

This is the nut of the argument in abortion rights situations, as well–what the fuck does it matter what Men think about women’s choices?

wow…he really IS pissy about it:

At a time when everyone, including the nation’s colleges and universities, are being forced to tighten their belts, this seems like more than just a waste of money; it’s an outrage, an affront to everyone who is having trouble making ends meet. The amount being spent on this workshop would probably pay for books and other materials for at least a year for two students already enrolled at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. It’s enough to feed a family of four for almost half a year.

the shocking, shocking cost of this workshop? $3,500…

  75. Pupienus Maximus said,

    February 1, 2013 at 0:49

I won’t be arsed to check it out but I will say that many (most?) universities allocate the funds for that sort of thing from student activity fees. That is, it might not be taxpayer money in the first place. One is tempted to wonder if Peter Roff (LOL! I just can’t help laughing at the name) bothered to do the due diliigence of determining whether in fact it is taxpayer money and further, to look into it in the hopes of showing him to be even more a fool than he does on his own.

chilie colorado con carne de venado

Venison red chile, eh? Sounds intriguing… I’d never thought of using venison for a dish like that since it’s so lean. But if you brine it or use a milk marinade it might stay moist.

New Mexico chile colorado is perhaps my number one favorite dish… unless it’s New Mexico chile verde. (It depends on the week of the year… phase of the moon… something.)

I’d have guessed the green would be better for something gamey like venison, but let us know how it turns out.

Molly Ivins passed away six years ago today. Man, do I miss her.

Kos has a nice little homage to her up on their front page today, with this quote that has inspired me in the past, and probably also not less than a few Sadlynaughts:

Keep fightin’ for freedom and justice, beloveds, but don’t you forget to have fun doin’ it. Lord, let your laughter ring forth. Be outrageous, ridicule the fraidy-cats, rejoice in all the oddities that freedom can produce. And when you get through kickin’ ass and celebratin’ the sheer joy of a good fight, be sure to tell those who come after how much fun it was.

It’s a cryin’ shame she passed so soon. We need more humans like her, not less.

In addition to everything else wrong with this post:

I want my son and daughter to be comfortable in their natural roles that are instinctual. Women are to be nurturing and men are to be protective. Teaching my daughter to become a killing machine and teaching my son to be less than a gentleman, is not acceptable. Neither will be tolerated in their father’s or my presence.

For my children to become combat ready, I would have to rethink my parenting philosophy and adopt the President’s gender-neutral ideology. Something I can guarantee will never be tolerated in our house.

This is basically an admission to running an emotionally abusive household, right here. If his daughter or son dare show even the slightest inclination of non-”natural” behavior in even the slightest, his plan is to come down on them like a ton of bricks. In short, to wage a constant barrage of emotional abuse for any sort of deviancy from what he sees as the inherent gender inclinations of male and female. Bob help them if one of those kids turns out to be trans* or hell, just a bit of a tomboy or fey.

    Also:

If my daughter is ever forced, through an involuntary draft, to serve in a foxhole or if my son, who already at this young age, has his heart set on the Air Force Academy, must ever follow a female Captain into battle, they will both have to undergo on the job training.

He says this as if this is some egregious monumental thing.

Um… everyone in any new job has to undergo on the job training in order to learn what the job entails. That’s just how work works. Fuck, the Armed Forces has some of the most extensive on-the-job training possible (that’s what basic training IS, how does a military-fetishist not get that?!?) because of all the “natural” things one may do, killing a person without a second thought or crippling doubt is something that needs to be very carefully trained over a long-period time.

As for the biography referred to in that Kos column, I found it tiresome. It’s probably an accurate recording of what she did, but no fire. The author also had an irritating way of continually referring to what Junior was doing about then, as if he were the only reason she mattered. Little George was just one of the fools she skewered.

Since most of the people whining this are people objecting to the minuscule portion of their precious tax dollars going towards women’s health, I say “Get in line.”  I have strong, longstanding religious and moral objections to the making of war, and a lot of my tax dollars go to just that. I’m not dedicated enough to deliberately make under the taxable amount (I feel it’s a bit antisocial – my tax money pays for a bunch of stuff required to keep society functioning), or pay only the part of my taxes not going to the DoD and making the IRS come and get it -it’s hard on the employer and tends to piss the IRS off, plus there are parts of the DoD budget I think are valid – obligations to vets for instance.

I’m also going to say this:

If it’s instinctual, then why the fuck are you training your daughters to be nurturing and sons to be protective? They should just do do those things and be that way no matter how you decide to break them mentally and psychologically. If instead you’re training them, or at least suggesting they can be trained otherwise, then what you’re really saying is “I only accept certain roles out of my children, and any coloring outside the lines is unacceptable both for them and for anyone else fucking with the roles I set out for them.”

Like what, we should applaud you because you’re fucking your kids up in socially-assumed ways; unlike the single father raising his daughter in a fashion that results in her being accused of being mannish or a tomboy, or the mother teaching her son to not be a testosterone-poisoned date-raping frat fuck that results in him being accused of being a fag through high school and college?
