It’s America’s politicians and parties. They’ve grown corrupt, venal, and out-of-touch with the values, and the people, that they’re supposed to represent.

Rich folks appear to be doing okay.

With all those here at Sadly, No!
Through wingnut waters I do row
I row past all those wingnut islands
See the sweet, sweet mangoes on the highlands

But the tide done fetched this boat
Right up next to the ol’ shit moat

Now that shit moat’s been fertilizin’
    Those mangoes oh so appetizin’
Still I know the price is steep
That shit moat runs so deep

    Should I leave this boat
And wade through the ol’ shit moat

I just can’t take it anymore
I leap out and head for shore
But when I reach the beach
The mangoes are rotten and out of reach

Why did I ever leave the boat
And wade through the ol’ shit moat

Well I learn my lesson quick
But it never seems to stick
Why can’t I get it through my head
To always trust the shorter that I read

Why do I always leave the boat
Up to my armpits in the ol’ shit moat

Sadlynaughts! heed my tale of woe
You don’t need no damn mango

Stay in the middle of this ever lovin’ boat
Don’t go near that ol’ shit mo-oh-oh-wo-oh-oh-oat

America’s prior Great Awakenings, in the 18th and 19th Centuries, were religious in nature. Unimpressed with self-serving, ossified, and often corrupt religious institutions, Americans responded with a bottom-up reassertion of faith, and independence.

Americans’ response to self-serving, corrupt preachers was to flock to evangelical charlatans even more blatantly corrupt and self-serving than those they fled, but who could fire up a crowd with their moronic rhetoric… OMG HE’S RIGHT, it IS another Great Awakening!

Today it’s only 600, but by the summer it will be 620. By next year there could be 670, even 680. And so it will go, onward and upward, ever upward, ever stronger, until they decide to stay home and watch the NCIS rerun marathon.

I just love that number – 600. The New England anti-war movement just had a meeting with about 400 attending (I believe this is an actual number without “revolutionary inflation” – it’s not from an ANSWER report). I haven’t seen any national media coverage… curious. Seriously, the anti-war movement is sadly weakened to the point of almost non-existence, and they get as many people in New England alone as the TPer’s get for their “national convention”. It’s quite funny.

From No-Visible-Means’ link above about the lousy GOP turnout, Florida, this related item:

Coming to the airwaves this week: Derek Black, the advocate for “the rights and heritage of European Americans” who’s threatening to sue the county GOP for denying him a Republican Executive Committee seat. Black says he’s paying $275 a week for one-hour Tuesday and Thursday slots on 1340 WPBR-AM.

Black’s show will emphasize “my own personal demographic and immigration concerns which are not talked about by any other public voices.”

Black, son of former Ku Klux Klan grand wizard Don Black and associate of ex-Klan leader David Duke, won a 2008 REC election but was disqualified for missing the deadline for signing a GOP loyalty oath.

The history nerd in me would like to point out that there were four Awakenings, not two. But since the Second one was about abolitionism and the Third one involved the Social Gospel and the Progressive Movement, I can see why they’d gloss over those two.

The Christian in me would like to object to the use of religious imagery, but I know better than to expect anyone else to – being a corporate/political whore’s been second nature for too many churches for too many years.

I’m not sure what makes me want to vomit more. Sarah Palin advocating mass killing (think 9/11 times 300 and spread out over an entire country instead of a few city blocks) for political gain, the fact that she manages to talk about it with that same happy oblivious not-a-care-in-the-world grin on her face as when she’s talking about hockey moms or basketball, or just the fact that the statement was taken in stride by her adoring supporters and barely even noticed by the press or her opponents.

There’s a lot of things wrong with this country. The fact that a major, popular politician can say something as obscene as this on national TV without getting a single rebuke surely has to top the list.

Hell, even the evangelicals have been proclaiming America’s Third Great Awakening for almost 20 years now, and it ain’t showed yet. If Instaputz thinks a crowd of 600 on a Saturday night in any medium-sized metro area in America is a sign, he needs to back away from the wacky weed and keep his hands in plain sight.

Tea partiers are all more war, more torture, more enemy combatants, more corporate power, less banking and insurance regulations . . .

Its all part of their “Restore the Constitution and give more power to the little guy” schtick. Its funny because they’re not Jewish.

Watching the puppets vie for puppet-in-chief has as much appeal to me as mud wrestling. As Michael Hudson pointed out in his recent G&B interview, running Obama was a brilliant move on the part of the oligarchs. By running a machine fascist draped in sheep skins, he has accomplished things quickly that W and Darth Cheney would have received a lot of push back on. But Palin may just be too stupid to get the backing of the oligarchs. She really is a freakin moron. Time will tell and it really doesn’t matter.

On another sour note – Zero Hedge has a brilliant analysis indicating that the Great Vampire Squid has moved up from just taking down investment banks to countries and continents. It has its tentacles wrapped around the PIIGS and is slowly and inexorably pulling them towards its beak.

Glenn Reynolds: Nashville Shows Tea Party Is America’s Third Great Awakening

I think Reynolds mistakes “turning over in its sleep because the cat jump on its crotch” with “awakening”

I swear I remember primaries. I bet if Santa comes back he will explain how they were a mere illusion.

I would SO TOTALLY go see this movie.

Rusty, you have to understand that they (the oligarchs) ran Obama as the Establishment candidate to defeat Hillary Clinton who, despite being the spouse of a former oligarch, President Bill Clinton, and an oligarch herself (senator from New York State), threatened the oligarchy because shut up that’s why.

I would have been impressed if there were over 9000.

Let’s see, if the maximum possible take is $550 multiplied by 600 teabaggers, for a total of $330,000, then Ms. Palin ate up 1/3 of the gross. I hope it was worth it.

Just sayin’, but 16,007 people went to see the Nashville Predators faceoff against the San Jose Sharks and 1,181 folks showed up for David Lipscomb’s home Basketball game versus Jacksonville. I suspect the most Nashville-ans in attendance for Sarah ‘the Quiter’ Palin were working for the hotel.

Jeez, our little science fiction convention in Spokane bloody Washington had 600-ish total attendance and that was the very first year… of course, we had Tim Zahn, he at least speaks in complete sentences. (nerd out)
