You’re just trying to distract us from Gary Ruppert II: Annie Angel thread, aren’t you? Well, it’s not going to work. We’re all just gonna keep posting over there and not in this thread, understand?? No one will post here!! And furthermore…er, um, never mind. *whistles*

    Is this a football thing?

    I don’t like football.

And I’m tired of annie, too. What do we need to do to get some REAL Christian women around here again? Y’all have been sadly, sadly neglecting Marie Jon’ of late.

I bet if you prayed to the Easter Bunny, he would bring her back for you.

A Massachusetts state holiday, Mal, celebrating the first marathon of spring. Which, suprisingly, manages to miss Lexington and Concord altogether.

Ah, thank you, Tigrismus. As a Canadian, I enjoy learning bits and pieces from foreign cultures. Do you wear colourful headresses and serve interesting foods at said event?

By the way, can someone get that strumpet annie to stop commenting here? I’ve had to disable my Norton Parental Controls in order to visit SadNo ever since she started filling up the place with her loose morals and general ungodliness.

I know one of the local churches sells hot dogs to marathon watchers. Sounds like Marita will have more info on the celebratory potables. Head gear is, as always, a Red Sox ballcap. I hear they do a battle re-enactment on the Lexington Green, but it’s at 5:30 AM, so I will never ever see it. Ever.

Hot Dog? Sounds dangerous. Like a dog…that is hot. I’ve got to get down to Boston one of these days (once the border re-opens and francophones are allowed entry again)…it seems exotic.

Can you bring some poutine when you come? That would be tremendous for killing the post-Patriots’ Day hangover.

Patriot’s Day – these regional holidays are a trip. I suspect an elaborate scam in this one.

We have Nevada Day, fittingly, at the end of October.

Do they still celebrate Confederate Independence Day in Mississippi?

  13. tigrismus said,

    April 17, 2006 at 21:12

They’re also known colloquially as “tube steaks” in some areas of the country. But then so are other things, so you might not want to answer “tube steak” when someone asks what you want to eat until you’re sure of the local lingo.

    Mr. Mexico,

Scam? Scam? Sir, while Nevada Day may be a worthy celebration of the human depravity that makes Nevada the special place it is today, Patriots Day celebrates a little something we like to call the Revolution. Without it, Nevada Day would be nothing more than, um, Dia de las Tetas en Norte Mexicano.

The actual scam day in Boston, is “Evacuation Day”, which was a sop from the WASP aristocracy to the drunken Oirish, as it coincides with St. Patrick’s day. It was a way that they could give Paddy his holiday without getting all Papist about it.

Patriots Day. Sigh. Best day of the year in Boston. And a satisfying win at that.

Saturday was the Race To Robie Creek in Boise, which is a pretty brutal (so I’m told) 1/2 marathon. There’s a group of people who hang out offering beer and booze to try to entice the runners to quit and join them. I’m surprised anyone ever finishes.

Y’all have been sadly, sadly neglecting Marie Jon’ of late.

    Ha, Marie Jon.

Check out the poll on her website, “Will you be voting for more Republicans or Democrats in November?” 50% to 44%, a 6% difference in favor or Democrats. (This even with Marie Jon’s “oh no you di-in’t” head shot staring down every respondent!)

AP says 50% Democrats vs. 41% Republican, 9% difference in favor of Democrats:
    http://environment.about.com/b/a/233661.htm
Time says 49% vs. 36%, a 13% difference in favor of Democrats:
    http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1176860,00.html

So, finally some hard numbers. Marie Jon embiggens terrorists at least 6-9/9 = 33% less than the MSM.

  20. Jillian said,

I fear the Red Sox, even though I’m a Mets fan, because we’re probably going to end up playing the BoSox in the World Series, and they’re loaded. Schilling and Beckett look devastating. It’s the twentieth anniversary of Bill Buckner and unfortunately for the Mets, Wily Mo doesn’t play first base.

Annie, if you’re out there, don’t forget to show up in the alley behind Bowery Ballroom after the show this evening. I’ll totally smoke you out.

  27. Ianua Ditis said,

    April 17, 2006 at 22:40

tig – since Patriots’ day is a holiday, you could always stay up all night drinking the night before and watch the reenactment.

I’m too late for the game though, I tried to get up for it, but 11 AM? That is crazy. I did catch the postgame on NESN…

At least they weren’t wearing those butt-ugly red jerseys again. They look like something the Mets marketing team would dream up. What they should do is ditch those and bring back their 70′s style red caps. Those were awesome.

JK47 – I’m kind of worried about facing the Sox also, because I think they are the one team that will give the Mets the most trouble. But I think this is the one year I will actually root for the Skanks, because I want revenge. But for right now I’m content to be in first place, and worry about Atlanta coming to Shea tonight.

  28. mikey said,

Hey, JK47! You’re counting your Mets before they’re hatched. This year the NL Pennant will go to…

    YOUR SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS.

Yep. While they cleverly distract the rest of the league with Barry Bonds and their clever inability to score any runs, the Giants are actually going to win it all this year. And sorry, Brad, but I’m gonna insist they beat Steinbrenner’s evil empire, just to make it SCHWEETTT!!!!

He is, he is, but every time Wakefield pitches now, I miss Mirabelli. Josh Bard makes me nervous.

  30. Ianua Ditis said,

    April 17, 2006 at 22:53

I think Bard will come around. It’s not easy to catch Wakefield, and if the Sox tried scoring a few runs while he was pitching, it wouldn’t matter so much that Bard dropped those balls.

  31. Ianua Ditis said,

    April 17, 2006 at 22:55

So, mikey, your argument is that the Giants are going to win because they distract teams by not scoring runs?

(As long as they beat Atlanta, that’s fine with me.)

  32. Jack Roy said,

    April 17, 2006 at 23:01

Whatta win, after never having a lead until two outs in the ninth. But I must concur: Getting Loretta and losing ‘Belli has started to look really, really bad after that unearned loss by Wakefield. I’d almost rather have Tek catch Wake, and that’s saying an awful lot.

  33. tigrismus said,

Ianua, I could stay up all night drinking, but they’d still have to move it to my front yard before I’d make the effort to get there.

They’ve scored enough to win so far. How many you give up is an issue, too, ya know. And Bonds has raked some balls so far … he’ll start producing. Durham will too.

Plus Kent got nailed in the head last night … that fake redneck … hahahaha!

  36. Brad R. said,

    April 17, 2006 at 23:46

The Giants will not win the World Series for one big reason: the have possibly the worst defensive outfield I have ever seen.

Why more lefty hitters don’t try to go the other way with Barry Bonds gimping around in left is beyond me. Moises Alou is slightly better in right, but he’s really a left fielder at this stage in his career.

  37. mikey said,

    April 18, 2006 at 0:51

Ahh, but late innings the Giants have Winn, Finley and Ellison, perhaps the fourth or fifth BEST defensive outfield in the league.

And I gotta agree with DA. When that kid Hennessey beaned Kent, Sabean should have given him a ten thousand dollar bonus!!

Speaking of trip-out-on-able local holidays, down here in Rhode Island (aka “The Biggest Little State in the Union!”–I wish I were kidding), we still have V-J Day, as in Victory Over Japan Day. It’s become so unobserved that most people still have to go to work, and IIRC it’s been years since the day was construed by yokels as an excuse to display anti-Japanese behavior, much to everyone’s chagrin and embarassment.

Some years ago, one of our governors had the bright idea of superimposing a simultaneous trip-out-on-able local holiday with the inspiring and mellifluous name of Governor’s Bay Day. State parks are free that day. So, in lieu of marathons (too much effort), we sit cheek-to-jowl on the beach and get sand in our Del’s and hot wieners.

Hot wieners are not to be confused with tube steaks of any stripe. Those who grasp the rich meaning and tradition behind “Original New York System” will understand.

  39. Demogenes Aristophanes said,

    April 18, 2006 at 6:51

True, Mikey, on the late-inning outfield. Finley defies the clock – he can still play defense and run.

Also, the Giants have a really good defensive infield, Durham and the loss of J.T. aside. Did you see that double play Durham-Vizquel-Feliz last night? When we first got Vizquel last year, Cleveland fans told me that we were going to love him. They were right.

Meanwhile, a thriller is happening at the BOB. And Tyler Walker needs to get sent down to AAA yesterday.
