I can’t imagine Emmanuel Lewis saying any of that, let alone in a Scots accent.

Webster was a curmudgeonly old Scotsman who used to have an afternoon talk show on Channel 8 in Vancouver. Of course, our cable system took Channel 8 away from us about 1987, so like I said, it was a while ago.

I remember the blurb or a Webster show a long time ago (You have to imagine a really thick Scots accent): “René Levêque—you remember him, he’s the guy who wanted to bust up Canada. Now he’s written a book about it, and he wants you to buy a copy! Today on Webster!”

It just seems your politics is more entertaining than ours; but it’s worth remembering that secession came up there first. (Well, ignoring 1861 and all.)

I didn’t know that the New Democrats were historically the Social Credit Party.

I just looked Socred up, they apparently are still around in BC, although they’ve been leaderless since the millenium.

Thanks for the clarification, DKW—I didn’t know that the New Democrats were historically the Social Credit Party. Most of the Canadian politics we hear about here is in BC, and I know I’ve heard from the SoCreds into the 90s at least.

It just seems your politics is more entertaining than ours; but it’s worth remembering that secession came up there first. (Well, ignoring 1861 and all.)

Social Credit has been daid for decades, at least nationally. They’re the “New Democrat Party” now. Their leader is from my hometown of LEAFS SUCK. I dunno what it’s like in teh Praries. Us – Torontonians give less of a shit about Saskatchewan than Americans do. Seriously, fuck those guys. Or not, really, I dunno.
