Right on the heels of the flag ban at Skyline H.S. in Longmont, Colorado, reading this story (with video) from nearby Westminster really hurt this morning:
The immigration debate and demonstrations caused a middle school in Adams County to change their dress code.
Students at Shaw Heights Middle School are no longer allowed to wear anything that’s patriotic, including camouflage pants, because they have become a political symbol for a version of patriotism.
Welcome to the beginning of Mexitude right here in the U. S. of A.
So, camouflage is patriotic because it’s a political symbol for a version of patriotism. Nice circular logic there! BTW, I didn’t know camo was a symbol like that. I thought it was a signifier (in certain hands) of the wearer’s adherence to a certain crazy brand of survivalist-cum-right-wing-extremist.It gets better, but that’s the part I came away with.
