Someone may have pointed this out (I haven’t read all the comments) but among the greatest beneficiaries of universal health care would the self-employed and free-lancers of any description. I have friends in Europe, a composer married to a pianist. It’s a struggle sometimes, but they make a living at it without having any sort of day job. They told me one of the reasons they can manage is that they are not worried about health care for themselves, or perhaps even more importantly, for their child. In the US this very difficult to do, unless you’re fortunate enough to make lots of money (rare among the self-employed), or have a spouse with a health plan you can get on to at a reasonable cost. And yes, they pay higher taxes than we do, but they get much more for their tax money.
