Jim Hoft, Gateway Pundit:
White House Garden Tests Positive For Lead

  • Wouldn’t it be hilarious if the First Family gets lead poisoning from their own garden?

Also, “full of lead” equals 93 ppm in the Gateway Pundit Environmental Safety Manual.

What wonderful opportunity for yet another controlling government take over. We need a Gardening Czar immediately! All gardens should be monitored by the government for everyone’s safety and to eliminate unnecessary government funded medical costs for lead poisoning treatment!

That was my sarcastic voice, if you didn’t realize.

    Yeah, we got it, thanks.

So it then might be prudent to soil-test the WH victory garden, especially with schoolchildren involved…

Sorry, I meant to say, it is now necessary to dispatch horticultural death-squads to confiscate the heartland’s flowerbeds.

This is one of those instances where it’s a shame there weren’t no internet back in the day. The AP gives no detail on what form of lead was found in the garden but it’s probably Tetra-ethyl. Imagine the blogospheric record we’d have of wingnuts freaking out about the evil jack booted thugs from the EPA oppressing the capitalist heros of the Ethyl Corporation by outlawing the use of Tetra-ethyl in gasoline. And oh those activist judges who sided with the EPA when the Ethyl Corporation sued them. When you look into the effects of Tetra-ethyl though, you begin to realize there’s a chance that the wingnuts won’t always be with us:

Lead pollution is dispersed into the air and into the vicinity of roads. Lead is a toxic metal that accumulates and has subtle and insidious neurotoxic effects at even very low levels, such as low IQ and antisocial behavior. It has particularly deleterious effects on children. These concerns led to the ban on TEL in automobile gasoline. In a 2000 U.S. study, the highest blood lead levels were about 27 ?g/dL (county averages).[6] A blood lead level of 30 ?g/dL is associated with a 6.9-point reduction of IQ, with most reduction (3.9 points) occurring below 10 ?g/dL, the level at which CDC considers blood lead level “elevated”.[7] In the U.S., a statistically significant correlation has been found between the use of TEL and violent crime: taking into account a 22-year time lag, the violent crime curve virtually tracks the lead exposure curve.[8] After the ban on TEL, blood lead levels in children have dramatically decreased.[8]

    Stupid EPA.

The source of the post about the WH garden is that it has been discovered that the WH lawn was fertilized with sludge:

Starting in the late 1980s and continuing for at least a decade, the South Lawn was fertilized by ComPRO, a compost made from a nearby wastewater plant’s solid effluent, a.ka. sewage sludge. Sludge is controversial because it can contain traces of almost anything that gets poured down the drain, from Prozac flushed down toilets to lead hosed off factory floors. Spreading sludge at the White House was a way for the EPA to reassure the public that using it as a fertilizer for crops and yards (instead of dumping it in the ocean, as had been common practice) would be safe.

Because brainiac above doesn’t link to a story, it makes it easy for the knuckledraggers like Ken and his friends to blame it on the Obamas, or perhaps on the practice of gardening itself, but it appears that it’s the legacy of the late Reagan/Bush I years, and only stopped sometime in the Clinton administration.

    Happy fun time at Patterico:

The problem with the right is that they are in denial. Obama sanctions this kind of behavior. He slimes everyone and everything that stands in opposition to him. We have ample evidence of this.

So sir please explain why any restraint should be shown. And a trite because “we are better than them” is just another way of saying because pre emptive surrender is an acceptable policy option.

The Left declared the rules. Let them abide by them, so lets hear about Obama’s mutant wife and her children sired by Satan.

    Comment by Thomas Jackson — 7/3/2009 @ 10:13 pm

    .

    Dear Mr. Patterico:

I don’t think that any restraint should be practiced wrt Obama’s children. None at all.

When ever Obama’s poll numbers start to decline, he trots out his children. Bush never used his children and the only time you saw them was when the media caught them drinking under age.

You can’t make the media pay for this shit. You can’t make Letterman, Stewart or any comedin pay for what they have done to Sarah Palin.

But you can make the Obama’s kids pay. You can make Biden’s kids pay. You can make them pay in the same way Palin’s children are paying.

We should destroy them because that is what the democrats are trying to do to Palin, to her kids, any Republican politician, and the United States of America.

Nice. I’m doing too much work in the kitchen for today’s BBQ, but wasn’t there a Republican quoted back in the Clinton era who said Chelsea was fair game?

Thing is, Obama actually spoke out in defense of Palin’s family – the “off limits” quote wasn’t in response to something said about him, it was in response to something said about the Palins. No acknowledgment or gratitude from Palin – she even twisted what he said to imply he meant off limits for himself but not for her.

Only in someone’s most delusional fevered imagination would they think that he condones the jokes about the kids. But it’s nice to see their ugly intentions revealed, that they want to “destroy” a seven year old girl.
