White people have been voting for white people for president for ever. Where’s the analysis of why they keep doing that? (Could it be that they voted for them *because* they were white? No, of course not!) Black people have voted for white people for ever (I mean, once they were freed from slavery, once they got they right to vote, and could pay the poll tax, and avoided getting lynched on their way to the polls, and like that) sometimes in huge numbers, occasionally even choosing white candidates over black ones. Where’s the analysis of why they would do that? Apparently, black people can’t see beyond skin color, whereas white people are past masters (yes, I know) at it. Racism is dead people, why can’t you see that?

Re: Southernspeak, I don’t get to hear it much here in Utah, which is a pity because I think it’s beautiful. I visited New Orleans not long pre-Katrina and was utterly smitten by all the different regional accents I heard (and languages; I encountered one guy yelling on the phone in what I’m pretty sure was honest-to-God Cajun French).
