Did anyone notice how quickly the stories of the looters and rapists and murderers came up in the media? And all of it hearsay?
I’m not calling the national guard pussies, but a few rounds of small arms fire at a chinook helicopter isn’t much of a danger. Certainly not a reason to abandon the relief effort. I have a sinking feeling that they’re playing this up so that afterward they can be all like “How could we rescue them on time? They were Shooting at us, and raping puppies.”

You know, I’ve never actually been one to cut morons and assholes much slack on the grounds that they are *always* morons and assholes. It’s always rather seemed like a good reason for more, not less, irritation.

Robinson’s article may have been sympathetic or not but it had only one topic which was sourced as well as any message written on a public toilet door.

As for whether someone at the NRO is an asshat who wrote something idiotic and inflammatory… well… isn’t that their job?

Seriously, there is no professional wrestling scandal. Nada. It doesn’t exist. Because everyone accepts that the fights are fixed there is no issue when bullshit is presented as reality for entertainment purposes.

I really see no difference between the WWF coming up with an American fighter who hates America every week and Fox coming up with an Asian woman who says foreign-looking people should be locked up and another woman who says women shouldn’t be allowed to vote.

After all, the evil wrestler doesn’t actually have to hate America… he just has to say he does. That’s all the masses need.

Likewise… nobody has to shank a panda to offend everyone… it’s the thought that counts :)~

My mistake, then. Actually, my criticism of Mr Robinson was somewhat tempered by the genuinely vile remarks made by his critics in his comment section.
For some reason, half of the racists on the net seem to have rushed forward to “defend” “those people” by suggesting that Robinson, being black, was too stupid and gullible to know any better than to print lies, and the other half to explain that “those people” were certainly capable of anything, lacking any sense of civilization.

My feeling, regarding all the ugly rumors of looting and raping and murder and cannibalism, was to assume in general that much less of it was going on than we were hearing, that what *was* going on was undoubtedly being done by people regardless of color or class, and had a lot more to do with desperation and hopelessness and horror and what I suppose I would refer to as traumatic insanity, than opportunism and felonious natures.

Robinson’s article seemed sympathetic to all of that, rather than scolding or mocking or purely voyeuristic. Goldberg’s fell into the latter categories, and in fact he’s been covering this all week with a tone of derision towards the suffering and the dead.

So, yes, my biases came into play, and of the two of them, I’m embarrassed for Robinson’s lack of professionalism, but I’m appalled by Goldberg’s lack of empathy.
I didn’t miss the point, I just covered it briefly elsewhere, and moved onto what I felt was a larger point here.

My stepdad has the dubious honor of having not one but TWO relations as famous victims of cannibalism (they must be TASTY in that family!). Yep, Donner Party AND the infamous Alfred Packer incident. Hey, I’m not condoning it, but I know for a fact that the guy on the Donner Party told the others when he knew he was dying “If if comes to that, you must do it.” Nobody knows how they are going to react in a time of extreme desperation until they get there…but I have a feeling that extreme desperation for Jonah is having to face a keyboard and a blank screen. Yeah that’s what strikes me about all these hot air bags, blaming everything on looters and the chaos that inevitably prevails when civilization and it’s various components break down and fail, they have obviously never stared long and hard into the abyss and considered what they might be capable of doing to simply survive. I’m putting big money on the idea that these righteous assholes would be panicking and stealing and fighting and looting worse than any of the victims of this disaster/disgrace were they in the same water-filled shoes.
